About the Speck Seethru Satin Case

Hi guys I'm considering to buy a Speck Seethru SATIN black case for my MBP 13''. I was reading on the internet and i collected some pros and also cons of this case. So please help me answering some questions that will help me decide.
From 1 to 10, how would you rate the protection of the case for the Macbook pro ?
The thing I really worry about is the overheating problem. In my opinion, not only this but anycase will slightly ( or highly ) heat your laptop even though it has a vent. But should I treat this problem as crucial ? Does overheating damage my laptop heavily ?
What I like about the Speck Seethru Satin is the look of it, it gives my MBP a different color that stands out, but based on reviews, these cases are fingerprint magnets. I'm also very worried that if the MBP looks "cheap" when it's full of fingerprint ? a photo would be fabulous.
Last, do we have to take it off every month to clear all the dust in between ? Does taking it off too frequently damage the MBP ?

i would like to say a grade of 6.5
yeah thats true-fingerprints are easily marked on the case.but that depends on the color of your case.a black case will make the fingerprints more standout.a transparent or pink will be less.also i can tell you this case will leave white mark due to the sunlight and self-heat,its not so explicit, cuz its on the back of the mbp.and you can a try software callled smcfancontrol and you set the speed of fan to a high value, the temperature will remain at about 100 F.anyway,i throw it away.i am worrying about the mark on the back of the computer.it is a good product from the angle of only protecting your mbp from scrapes.you can see the temperature on the menu bar:the temp and the fan's speed.

wondering why on a SPECK SEETHRU SATIN( for macbook pro 13) is like 70.00 on APPLE but on the speck website its 49.95 why is that? and is it fair?
PLZ leave comments tell tell me feedback!

No it's not fair, but the Apple Store employee will most likely put it on for you for the $20 difference.
Apple has the advantage of people walking into their stores and buying things as they need solutions that Apple themselves don't offer, so third party products get that exposure, customers get the convenience.
It's like buying $5 gallon of milk at the local fast stop store instead of pay $3 and waiting in a long line at the local supermarket behind people with shopping carts full of stuff.
Your paying more for the convenience. If you want to save money, you shop online and you wait for it to be delivered.

  • Will the Speck See Thru Case Fit in the Tucano Sleeve?

I just bought my MacBook Pro 15" and would like to keep it in prestine condition. I have two questions:
    1. I want to protect my new purchase as I will be traveling with it, taking it in and out of my work bag, usage around the house, etc. I read the reviews and I think the Speck See Thru will support the daily usage but I'm wondering if the Tucano sleeve will support the compression in my workbag. I love the look of the Tucano Sleeve (sleek in nature: http://www.tucano.it/US/)and would love for them to work together. So, simply put...does anyone know if the Tucano Sleeve will fit over my MacBook Pro with the Speck See Thru case?
    2. I can't decide between the clear or the black case. I like the grey look of my MacBook Pro...but is the black a solid black or truly see thru black (almost smokey)?...I think black is a slick color as well.

Yes, the 'Specked' MacBook Pro does fit in the Tucano sleeve that I have (i.e. the Second Skin one)
I have the clear speck case as I love the look of the MacBook Pro's anodized aluminium case but then again, I have not seen the black one and so I cannot comment on it.

  • Speck 13" SeeThru Satin Case for Macbook

  • Incase vs speck seethru satin

i wanna buy a protection hardshell for the macbook 13 alu...but i heard there are some problems with incase like after putting on...the macbook cant open over 90 degrees....and also it is hard to take off....is that true???? and a problem on speck too....is that it scratches the macbook.....so which one do you recommend to get????thanks...

I just bought a red speck case for my 13" macbook recently this summer...I liked it at first and thought it was great. I also got a silicone keyboard cover around the same time also which I thought was great...Recently i'm having horrible troubles with my laptop overheating! After doing some researching on the internet I found out that it could be due to my keyboard cover, but I also think that the speck case had something to do with it because it cooled off considerably after I took it off as well. And yeah, you can't open your laptop up as far anymore with the speck case on - That part was a pain in my opinion. And after taking it off, I keep finding scratches on my macbook. My advice: save your money and don't get the speck case I don't think it's worth it

  • Questions about the iPhone 4 bumper case

im asuming it will be available tomorrow during pre-order in which ill buy being that there's not many (if any) cases out there and I cant imagine having a naked iPhone. I don’t remember them saying in the keynote on the material? it looks of hard plastic, then again it looks rubberish? did anyone catch that during the keynote because I don’t remember them talking about the material?
does anyone know of any cases out yet? I would think not being the makers probably need an iPhone 4 body to work with making cases. Google brought up nothing, thanks!

    here you go http://www.case-mate.com/iPhone-4-Cases/iPhone-4-Cases.asp
the bumper looks cool, but all but black or white will look kind of gay for guys to use. Ill be getting a black phone and would love a red bumper!
Also, $29 for something that costs probably way less than $1 to make is a little pricey IMO!

  • Questions about the zen micro leather case???

    hey everyone,
i saw the pictures of the zen micro leather case in the US store and was going to get them until i heard that the case is quite useless and annoying with the two-way flap open. Do you still think i should get them or a diiferent one(im DESPERATE to get one!!)
    thanks everyone.

There are several designs out there including... the flexi-skin (at Boxwave.com as well as eBay), Noreve's, Krussell's?and Vaja. It really comes down to what you want from a case. I've gone for a flexi-skin as I want easy access to the controls, and I kept my screen protector (but screen protectors are easy enough to buy).

  • Speck SeeThru Case

    Hi Everyone,
I have a MBP and have been thinking about getting one of the Speck SeeThru cases, but would like some input from those who have it. I'm concerned if the case hinders the MBP in anyway, specifically if the hinge is impeded in any respect. Also, if there is any issues with scratching the aluminum case by either putting the Speck case on or taking it off.
    Feedback is appreciated.
    ~Steve

personally i have not had any problems with my speck case hindering my macbook pro. but i would also have to include that i have not taken the case on and off, and pretty much have left the case on since i have put it on the macbook pro.
    hope that helps-

  • Speck SeeThru case and Zeroshock for 15" Macbook

I'm wondering, does anyone else have this combination of the Speck Seethru case and the Zeroshock sleeve for the 15" Macbook?
I'm just making sure that the combination will fit, I wouldn't think it would have a problem, but I'd like to make sure.

I am using the speck case with a neoprene sleve from incase and have no problems. I love the speck case! You can use on you lap and it actually shields from most heat to allow you to work! It is very low profile and I still have plenty of room in the sleeve.

  • Speck See Thru Case - Your Thoughts

I know this question has come up many times about the Speck See Thru series of snap-on shells for the MBP. But after a response to a thread I read the other day in comparison to an answer I received at the Apple Store I'm even more confused.
The advice in the earlier thread advised against the use of the Speck suggesting that it would cause the MBP to overheat, or at the very least run hotter than usual which would in turn lead to an early demise of the MBP.
The advice from the Apple Store Genius was quite different though. He said that it's fine to use the Speck, and although the argument that the aluminum case was designed to disipate heat was true, the bottom of the Macbook was insulated and thus does not offer much in heat dispensation anyway. He added that the majority of heat is released through the vent that runs along the hinge which is not obstructed by the Speck.
So my point is this. If the MBP is running three to five degrees warmer with the Speck, but still within the lower limits of acceptable operating temperture, then whats the harm?
And, is it safe to assume that since the Speck is sold in the Apple Store it's perfectly ok to use?

Joseph, greetings:  There is no speculation on my part.  Heat is the bane of all computers.  Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat.  Plastic is not and will tend to insulate heat rather than dissipate it.  These characteristics conform to the laws of Physics.
Placing two MBPs side by side will prove very little because that does not meet the requirement of a statistically significant sample. What I am suggesting is analogous to a clinical trial, large enough so that the variables among the individuals is such that the item to be studied for effectiveness becomes the sole differentiating factor being measured. (For MBPs that would be the manufacturing variables and the sole factor is the Speck case.)
The result would be two failure curves (each curve consisting of date on the X axis and number of MBPs on the Y axis.)  The MBPs (with out the cases) curve will be shifted to the right of the MBPs with the cases.  If I had said by how much the respective failures would be and the differences, that would be speculation, but I did not.
Even if the MBPs were all operating within Apple specifications, as a group the hotter ones would fail sooner.
In a nutshell, the more heat a MBP, or any computer is subjected to, the shorter its life span.
Perhaps we should get together and develop a cooling system that will enable our MBPs outlast us.
    Ciao.

  • Speck See-Thru case for MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15 inch

Hi, I recently purchased the Speck See-Thru case for the MacBook Pro Retina. The case seems to fit very snugly and requires some degree of force to remove. The top half of the case proves to be more difficult than the bottom half. Is it normal that it takes some force to pop off the tabs of the case? I am probably over worrying but just want to make sure. Thanks

I have a Speck see-thru for mine and yes, they fit quite snugly. Probably to prevent a "rattling" feeling that would feel even worse. As time goes by and you inevitably have to take it off every so often to clean underneath, the snugness goes away.
Yes, in spite your best efforts, dust somehow finds its way in there and gathers in the corners which soon becomes unbearable and off it has to come. Guess that's the downside of transparency.   Maybe next time I'll get an opaque black model....

  • Case SeeThru Satin 15'' Speck for MacBook Pro

Hello! I just bought the new MacBook Pro 15" I5 Processor and I want to buy the case SeeThru Satin from Apple website. The problem is that Ive been told that the new charger that connects to the mac doesnt fit properly with the case, so they had to do a new case addapted to the new charger.
I want to know if the case available to buy on internet is addapted or not for the new charger that comes with the new MacBook Pro I5 Processor.
The code of the product is MB15AU-SAT-PUR-D.
    Thank you!

Why don't you visit the Speck web site and note the Speck model number of the case you want and compare that with the case on the Apple web site? This is a user to user forum and not the Apple Store.

  • Invisishield + speck satin case

    Hi,
I recently purchased a MBP 13" and I'm wondering if it is a good idea to install BOTH an invishield and the spack satin case. I really want the case, but I've heard mixed reviews about it. Many complaints include that it can cause scratches on the computer because of dust that gets trapped. I know that frequent and regular cleaning is suggested, but I am quite lazy and can see myself putting it off. I am concerned that if I put on both the invisishield and the speck case that it will be too much, and can start creating problems with the computer and overheating. Anybody have any tips, suggestions or recommendations as to what I should do? Should I bother with the invisishield?
    Thanks.

With respect to the two replys to your thread I'm currently using a Speck See Thru case for my MBP and happily no problems to report. I am terribly cautious with my MBP and can easily understand why some not so cautious users would experience issues with scratches and the like. As for overheating, I have had no problems, but most of my use is within my home and I use a cooling pad, albeit not pluged in most times. Right now I'm at 99 degrees while typing this and listening to my Airport enabled AE5's. Not much of a strain on the system, but no problems either.
I guess if I were a heavy, graphic intensive game player I might think twice though.
    Merry Christmas.
Edit: I dont really see the need for the Speck AND the Invisishield though.
