About the system wide wifi proxy setting

I'm currently using BlackBerry Q10, and I love it, just for you know, I turn from iPhone5 to it.
As I'm using it mostly inside China, the network connecttion is so bad, I need use proxy for accessing Google or Twitter service, so the wifi's proxy is very important to me.
But I found inside my Q10 system, the wifi proxy setting in fact is not globally effect, it works when open browser, but when I try to add my Gmail account or twitter account, it can't go with my proxy setting. That too bad.
is there any special setting to make it works, this is really importent to me

IPCU 3.4.0.283 for Windows - WiFi proxy setting

iPCU 3.4.0.283 is able to specify WiFi proxy setting but this proxy setting is not set up on the iphone, only SSID and authentication is preserved. Is it bug in iPCU or in iOS 5 when profile is not fully read and set in the device ?
We need at the moment manualy add proxy setting on the device despite the fact that it is specified in configuration in iPCU.

same problem here. If the device is iOS 5, I can see the proxy settings in the device UI but they have no effect (they do nothing). If the device is iOS 4, I cannot even see the proxy settings. I am using a Mac for creating the profile. I have submitted a bug about this. I am waiting for the next IPCU version hoping it will solve the problem.

System-wide Transparent Proxy With URL Patterns

Internet censorship -where I live- has almost turned web unusable so I decided to setup a transparent proxy using Tor for my home network.
Since Tor is so slow -here- proxying all traffic through Tor would slow my connection to a crawl. Therefore I need a mechanism to selectively proxy the traffic.
I know a bit of 'iptables' and it looks to me like the solution to my problem. However there's a trick. As most of the websites I need to access through Tor (like Google+, Facebook and such) use several IP addresses for their entry points, it's almost impossible for me to add 'iptables' rules for all of those IP addresses. I need a mechanism to proxy the traffic based on URL patterns. For example I need to be able to proxy access to '*.facebook.com' through Tor.
So the question boils down to: how can I setup a system-wide transparent proxy using URL patterns?
Any idea/hint is much appreciated. TIA,

System-wide MTU 1400 setting?

How do I setup the interfaces to use MTU of 1400?
I have been able to add "mtu 1400" to /etc/hostname.XXX and got those NICs to set mtu to 1400.
However when I bring up the zones, the virtual NICs that get created in the process, sets the MTU to 1500.
Similarly in Veritas Cluster environment, when I bring up the service group, the virtual NIC that gets plumbed, also sets MTU to 1500.
Other than running a script to scan each NIC and executing - ifconfig <NIC> mtu 1400 - is there a way I can set the MTU to 1400 system-wide?
I need this setting for both Solaris 10 and Solaris 9 boxes.
If anybody has any input/suggestion on how to do this, please reply.

Unfortunately I am unable to debate why MTU is set to 1400. I have been requested to do that by the Architect/Network/Firewall engineers. Even the Windows guys have to do this on this boxes as well. Please if anybody knows how I can make this a system-wide setting without having to write a script, I would deeply appreciate it. Any engineers working at Sun who monitor these forums care to reply, please?

Confused about the 'cpu fsb clock frequency' setting, etc., in cell in bios

just got a new k8n neo2-f nforce3 board with an a64 3500+ venice chip. It is properly recognized in the bios and windows as an a64 3500+ at 2.2ghz, but I'm confused about the cell menu settings in the bios. I see a 'cpu fsb clock frequency' which was automatically set at 200mhz, but the fsb runs at 1Ghz (1000mhz), so what is the 'fsb clock frequency' if not equal to the cpu fsb? Is 200 the correct setting for that? Should I need to change any of the other settings in here? I wonder, because my 3dmark03 score only went up 200 points from the same system with a AthlonXP 2500+ chip and kt4avl mobo, which seems like a low increase to me.....

I would set that to Manual in BIOS, so that you can incremently increase the CPU speed without causing a sudden crash. Each system is different and operates within the specs of not only the CPU, but system memory and PCI-E add-ins as well. Your video card is the primary driver behgind your 3DMark scores...but you haven't listed that?!

Question about the IPad 2 wifi with 3G

I am thinking about to buy the iPad 2 wifi with 3G but I wondering if I could buy it without contract ( no sim card and any data plan ) so that I don't need to pay additional cost everymonth since I already have an iPhone with data plan. I just need to buy a 3G version to use when I travel between country. Are there possible to buy it in Apple web site and only get it with out contract an data plan like iPhone?

It might depend on what country you are in and therefore buying it. They are not locked in the USA (though the Verizon models are effectively locked as they are CDMA based, not GSM/sim based), nor here in the UK. They can be bought and used without signing up to a contract or even activating 3G on them.

It appears as a window with the following text, "System extension cannot be used. The system extension “/Library/Frameworks/PrivateTunnel.framework/Versions/Current/Extensions/tap.ke xt” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update."
I close it by clicking "Ok", and it doesn't seem to affect the system performance in any way, but it's annoying knowing that it's there. The problem is quite old, and has persisted through several OSX updates.

Use System Proxy Settings - when this is selected in FF v3.6.6, does it adhere to the same local IE proxy setting? We use a pac file configured in "Use automatic configuration script."

Does anyone know what Firefox looks at locally on the PC when the "Use System Proxy Settings" setting is selected? It appears to be the default setting, recently changed from "No Proxy" of versions past...
Our company uses a pac file specified in IE under "Use automatic configuration script" - with this new default, does it adhere to the same setting in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

I may be wrong but I think that the "Use System Proxy Settings" makes sense only on Linux and generally speaking "other OSes". As far as I know there is no generic proxy settings in Windows operating system.
The one I know is in the registry part of Internet Explorer.

I have dloaded and reloaded firefox 7 b4 i had firefox 5 now after system restore and proxy setting changes an d default settings fire fox still will not open what am i doin wrong

System wide default character set

Hi,
I moved to a new company few days ago where we use Tiger workstations and servers.
I've been trying to figure a way to set UTF8 as the default character set for a whole system, not just a user preference.
I suppose there is a way to do that, but I'm afraid I won't have more time to find it.
Any help is welcome.

If you could explain exactly why you think you need to do that, someone might be able to help.
Generally speaking Unicode UTF-8 is what OS X uses by default for a lot of things. The exception would be the file system, which uses UTF-16 NFD. There is no way to change that.

Playbook won't connect to the internet on wifi WPA setting with d-link router

Hi, I'm using a D-link DIR-655 router with it being set up with a WPA security system. For some reason though, when I've tried to set up my playbook, it won't connect to it. Can anyone help. Thanks.

Let me see if I can find how to reset your router. I think it's the same as mine actually. Your router is a pretty good router. I think with the settings I suggest to you you will get your PlayBook to connect reliably.
Also, when you get into your router, make sure your firmware is the most recent. Update it if you have to.

My US english dictionary for the system-wide spellcheck has died

At some point in the past few days I noticed that my spelling had gotten a lot more accurate... or so I thought. Actually, what happened is, for some reason, whenever I choose ordinary US English as my dictionary for the spell checker, it thinks that every word is spelled right. This isn't an UBER problem because there is the UK dictionary too... but I would still like to fix my US English dictionary so that I don't have to spell colour wrong.
I wouldn't mind just resetting all of the dictionaries, I just don't see a place to do that.

If the language is set ithe paragraph style, that's where it needs to be changed. If it's local formatting override you can use Find/Change to change the exixiting text all at once, but that won't change the style definition. A global definition change might be possible via script. Ask over in InDesign Scripting

Being that I Synced my phone to ITunes before the update. When I update my ITunes will that make me lose all my backed up information that I prevosily had on ITunes?

PowerShell 4.0 ISE doesn't use the system proxy settings

I can retrieve the contents of a URL using something like 'iwr
http://www.adobe.com' in the command-line PowerShell host.
This takes into account the proxy settings in Control Panel / Internet Options.
If I attempt the exact same thing in the PowerShell ISE, I get:
iwr : The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.adobe.com'
This works only if I add the -Proxy and -ProxyUseDefaultCredentials options.
How comes?

If the CmdLet requires the -proxy option, how do you explain the results I get without the option from powershell.exe?

Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
    Direct access (no proxy server).
This is not what I have under "Internet Options", where "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" are both checked. But IIRC from the proxycfg.exe days this reports the "system-wide"
proxy settings, not the per-user proxy settings.
