About the temp directory of BI

Hi all,
I am new to BI and would like to ask if I could delete the files in the following folder because it occupies almost 2GB and seem it does not delete the aged out record (Almost 2 months record). I search the document Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher Guide. Would be appreciate if anyone reply. Thanks.

Yes. You can delete the files from tmp directory. Once I had to delete a file of 29GB.

When Access Protection is enabled under the category "Common Standard Protection", Rule: Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp Directory is enabled. the updates fail.
This rule provides some protection against possible malware execution. However when this rule is enabled FireFox updates fail. We have set exclusions for "updater.exe" but the problem seems to be when FF restarts and the update fails. Is there anyway of finding out what is happening at that point?? as in what FF is doing? The old FF closes and it seems to spawn a fresh "firefox.exe". But the OLD version is still current.
I would like to know if this update process can be identified and with the possibility of excluding what is being blocked so keep the extra security that this rule gives.
When the rule is disabled, FF updates without issue.

That's a comment in the file. It has no effect at all.

Installation Failed: Unable to extract to the temp directory. (EX11)

I am trying to install InDesign from the CC and it keeps coming up with the error Installation Failed: Unable to extract to the temp directory. Please contact customer support (EX11). About the /lib64 directory [SOLVED]

I noticed recently that I have a /lib64 folder in my root directory, wich contains only two symlinks (ld-2.15.so and ld-linux-x86-64.so.2).
More precisely, I have the following layout: (the arrows mean "points to", and I use absolute path)
/lib64/ld-2.15.so --> /lib/ld-2.15.so
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --> /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --> /lib/ld-2.15.so
Is this "normal" (I run arch x86-64) ?
I once used multilib, is it the reason why I have this /lib64 directory ?
If so, is it safe to delete the /lib64 directory now that I don't use it anymore ?

I create only one temp tablespace which is 100M . It is engrossed only 0.08% at the begin.When I exec a SQL (Select a big table ) ,the TEMP tableplace is engrossed 99.8%.When I exit my client which exec the 'big' SQL ,the state is remain as before .When I exec the 'big' SQL again ,the TEMP tablespace increase to 203M and is engrossed 99.8%(of 203M ). When I exit my client which exec the 'big' SQL ,the state is remain as before .How to release the TEMP tablespace ?Thanks !!

I'd just add that the tablespace doesn't have to be locally managed to have the segments marked free and left available for reuse. That is a function of declaring the tablespace as a type of "TEMPORARY". When you do this, once segments are allocated, they are, as noted, marked free when no longer in use. They are intentionally NOT deallocated. This avoids having to incur the overhead of deallocating and some time later, reallocating the segments (reduces the overhead). Using locally managed is a good idea since it avoids the overhead associated with updating the data dictionary when the segments are initially allocated.
Deallocation only takes place upon shutdown/startup of the database.

Can i prevend the generation of files in temp directory

I noticed, that a labview (7.0) application generates different files in the temp directory when executed and deleting them when stoped.
(Except of the *cur.txt and *log.txt files which only exists once per application)
Is there a way to prevend LabView to write this files (lvtl*.rsc; lvtr*.rsc; *.tmp)
I've got an application, which i have to kill (there's no other way at this moment).
If i do so, the files still exist. I kill this application about once a minute.
Because i don't end the application the regular way, the mentioned files still exist.
As a result the temp directory runs full.
Suggestions are appreciated.

Nice question!
There are different ways for doing this. Unfortunately no any "100% guaranteed" way (because its not documented by NI - which temporary files are created by LV app):
So, first suggestion with deletion of all temporary files seems to be safety, because normally Temp directory must be empty. In case if some files currently used by other applications, they locked and you cannot delete them.
Second way - change path to temp directory especially for your application. Just add tmpdir key into assotiated ini file:
[app]
tmpdir=C:\MyApp\Temp
After that lvtl*.rsc; lvtr*.rsc will be created into this directory. You can safety delete these files after kill.
(Note, that "*" is pid of your application)
Third way - looking for all handles, which currently opened by your application. You can do this with some utilities, for example with Handle.exe from SysInternals.
For example for my simple application following output was generated (some not important lines are skipped):

Now you can parse output and looking for all currently opened temporary files, then kill your your application and then safety delete tmp and rsc files. Note, that files lvtl*.rsc and lvtr*.rsc are located in "local" temporary directory as described in ini file, but nix*.tmp still in "default" directory.

Possible Bug: Excessive writing to TEMP directory for any PDF metadata change

I am using the latest version of Adobe Bridge CC 6.1.0.116 x64 for Windows.
I use Adobe Bridge to manage large archives of scanned PDF's composed of full page JPG's.
Whenever I attempt to change metadata on these PDF's, Bridge performs heavy writing to the TEMP directory. Even when using an SSD, changing any metadata is very slow and the TEMP writes are enough to produce noticeable wear on the disk.
[I would have attached screenshots, but I get a "That image type is forbidden" error in these forums whenever I attempt to upload screenshots (either JPG or PNG; and they are less than 900px on longest edge).]

The Task Manager also shows 356MB/sec writes for over fifteen seconds for each metadata change, with brief pauses between files.
This amount of data written amounts to about 20GB each minute!
(Note that the files I was modifying in this test averaged only about 100MB each.)
Bridge did not always do this. I remember earlier versions performed metadata changes swiftly without these excessive write issues. I do not remember in which version this problem began, however.
Resaving the files in question does not solve the problem. I have also tried exporting as Postscript and re-Distilling, and even exporting JPG's and recreating the PDF from scratch.
This problem seems to affect any PDF that is a collection of full-page JPG's. The PDF's that I have made from TIFF's or non-rendered text do not cause this issue. On non-JPG based PDF's metadata changes are fast and do not cause noticeable writes to the TEMP directory.

VMM 2012 R2 - Create or Update Run As Account Failure: The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist

VMM 2012R2 UR4 - Version 3.2.7768.0
Not sure when this started happening since I haven't had to update or create a new RunAs account in VMM in some time, but every time I do, either through the console or through PowerShell it throws an error about The specified directory service attribute
or value does not exist. The VMM Service account is the same as it always has been, and other than this issue everything with VMM is working fine. The full text of the error message is below.

Applet accessing temp directory in Vista

My signed applet requires access to a directory where it can read/write files. Apparently the temp directory is one place where an applet can do this. The method System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") returns the path to the temp directory on Windows XT or 2000. But Vista denies access to reading this property. I also tried System.getProperty("user.name") with the same result.
Any suggestions on how to get the path to the temp directory under Vista, or some other low security area where a signed applet can read/write files?

Jar File caching in temp directory problem

Hello,
I have a problem where the java plugin is caching jar_cache9999.jar (where 9999 is any number 0-9) files in the temp directory. I have tried following the directions for disk caching in the documentation, but these files are always created, never destroyed.
I was wondering:
1. Is there a simple setting that I could set that should resolve this problem? (un-setting "cache jars in memory" wouldn't seem to solve the problem as I would think that would only force the browser to use the same jar if it had already been loaded)
2. Has this problem been corrected in later releases of the java plugin? I am using the jre1.2.2. When I looked at the problem here in the forums, the bug that was listed was listed as fixed.

Java Plug-in has supported disk caching in previous versions by using the same cache the browser uses for all other web documents. This works for casual applet usage, but larger applets can often get flushed from the cache to make room for other documents since the browser has no knowledge that an applet file might be needed in the future. The result is that this caching strategy fails where is needed most in large business applets.
From 1.3. the new feature is activated by including the new "cache_option" , "cache_archive" and "cache_version" values in the EMBED/OBJECT tag that specifies the use of Java Plug-in as below:

Temp directory

Hello,
I have an applet that donwloads files to a temp directory which is created in the filesystem if it doesn't exist. The name of the temp directory is taken from an properties file that is bundle into the jar file.
I would like to use as temp directory for downloads the browser temp directory instead of a temp directory specified in a properties file. But how can my applet get the browser temp directory?

Can't write to temp directory

hi! i'm trying to install Oracle9i enterprise edition on a Windows XP Pro system. once i click setup, it gives me a message saying that the installer can't write to the temp directory?!
on checking the temp directory, i found that it's marked as read only, and there's no way i can't uncheck it, it just keeps coming back?!! even if i create a new folder and specify it as the temp directory, it is the same.
is this a problem with the Oracle installer or windows? cos i'm installing other softwares(from other vendors) and it's okay.
i am already having the full computer administrator rights.

Can I somehow disable DM's awareness of the source control?That's in "Preferences>Extensions" - disable versioning support there. Still I won't recommend to save it over existing design - existing directories will be deleted including svn directories. It's safer to save the content in another directory and copy it back to versioned directory; also files that have older date should be removed from versioned folders.
