'About this Mac' displaying definitely wrong disk storage of Apps

Hey guys,
My MacBook Pro is 15 inches late 2013, and recently I found it has some issues on displaying the disk storage.
As seen above, 'Apps' has 936.23GB which is definitely wrong!
Could someone explain this kind of issues?
Please help...

Well it just happened again, what is causing this, Spotlight? And this time I have a total different amount of apps all over sudden.
At least I did the screenshots this time. And the screens to show you that, even if I follow your steps after removing it from the privacy tab, I get nothing, even if I type indexing. I did see what you mean with the progress bar in spotlight on a screenshot online, but he didn't even need to type indexing he could type anything and it would show a progress bar. But for me that's not the case as you can see. Could an application be causing this? I'm disappointed that this came back this quick. Anyway as for my other question you can see that I am missing the memory tab if anyone knows why that is, I think my brother has the same OS version installed and its still showing for him.
Of course I am missing the screenshot with the removed applications folder but I didn't want to put more screens in here for an obvious step, I just added the one with apps in privacy to show that I am on the right page and doing the right thing in order to start a re-indexing.
Another question, can I throw in the whole Macintosh HD, because I get a warning when I try to do so...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
All the storage in "Backups" is taken up by local snapshots, which are made automatically in all MacBooks, MacBooks Pro and MacBooks Air with OS X Lion or newer and Time Machine turned on.
See > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html I recommend you to leave them there, because they will be removed automatically. However, if you want, you can disable or remove them manually if you want, even if there's no reason to do this. Have a look at the link above for more information

when i go to about this mac and look at my storage it says that i have 33GB of music. i recently deleted 2 user accounts but can't find any of these files. Where do i go to delete these files?

What are you asking? Where music is stored or where the user accounts were stored?
Music should be in the music folder - perhaps inside of an iTunes folder.
User accounts should be on the home directory.

  • Storage values under about this mac displaying incorrectly, but amount of space used IS correct. Any ideas?

I noticed recently that the "storage" under "about this mac" is displaying incorrectly. It doesn't show the correct values for my photos, videos, and audio files. It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

    Also,
I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

  • "About This Mac" disc usage wrong.

In short I have a 480GB SSD by OWC. The audio alone, according to "About This Mac", is over 581.14GB... Something is obviously not adding correctly.
I must admit, I had a couple of iPods that I downloaded music from to a VMware running Mac OS 10.9.4. The host OS is something that I can't mention...
I used the Hudini for Mac on the 10.9.4 WMware OS to unhide the music.
Since I noticed this disc usage inaccuracy. I've deleted most of the music. Because at one point it was showing over 1TB for the audio.
I've also did a command R at start up and ran Disc Permission and Repair.
I also turned off Time Machine, reboot, turned TM back on, reboot. (Someone else had the opposite disc usage and this helped.)
My next thought is to delete the Mac OS 10.9.4 via VMware, as this was where I originally downloaded the music from an iPod. I went through the music and transferred over to the host OS the selection that I wanted to keep. When I Get Info on the music app via Mac OS X ssd ▸ Users ▸ KOT ▸ Music ▸ iTunes ▸ iTunes Media it comes up with a little over 17GB.
    Thank you,
    KOT

I really wish that I could say that this helped. But it made it worse.
It's now saying that I have 15.6TB of Photos, 4.77TB of Audio, 4.26TB of Movies and 34.6GB of Apps.
I tried it twice. Once when I was using the Mac, then when I saw that it made it worse. I did it again, though I left it in the "Don't spotlight" list, rebooted and finished what I had to do. When I was ready to be done with the computer. I removed it from the list and put the display to sleep. Came back a couple of hours later and found it the same way when I tried it the first time.
Now that the rest of the stuff, such as Photos, Movies and Apps are overly "used". I am beginning to think that it's a Y.... thing for right now.
    Thanks for your thought though.
    KOT

  • About this Mac does not have a storage tab on my MacBook Pro  How do I find the storage info

I am looking to find how much storage capacity I have left on my MacBook Pro....  I have read clicking on About my Mac and going to additional Info, but the window showing the info does not display a tab to view Storage.....should it and how do I restore it

Select the drive's Desktop icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. The information is displayed in the topmost panel as: Capacity, Available, and Used.

  • About This Mac is showing wrong Storage information

When I look to see how much my App, Movies, Photos, Autos, and Backups the GB being listed is wrong. I have a 120 GB hard drive. My Apps are claiming to be 130.43 gb, Movies at 22.13 gb, Photos 18.48 gb, Audio 1.17 gb, Backups 217.9 mb.  It states that I have 47.73 gb of 120.1 gb available. Is there a quick fix for this, or will Apple need to create a fix?

I believe my storage 'graph' is also wrong.  Looking at the bar, it would appear that I have very little storage space left, however, I do have 116GB (out of 170GB) free.  Also, my Apps do not take up 118GB.  The math does not add up and I do not understand the graph appearing that I am max'ing out.
    What is going on?

  • I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my hard drive, setting etc to an SSD to replace in my MBP.  When I placed the SSD in and went to "About This Mac" I came upon this in the Storage section.  My question is where can I find my Backups and delete them?

I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my old MBP hard drive and its settings to a new SSD.  Everything went smoothly.  When I opened the "About this Mac" section and looked under Storage it showed this:
Where are the "Backups" (purple) located? I want to delete these files to free up disk space on my new SSD.  Thanks in advance for all of your guys help!

  • New MacBook Pro - Storage in "About this Mac"

I just got a new MacBook Pro (256 GB storage) and set it up as a new computer (rather than migrating from previous computer).  I am curious about the amounts showing up in the Storage tab of About this Mac.  Here's my current allocation:
    Apps: 11 GB
    Other: 7 GB
    Audio: 1 GB
    Photos: 900 MB
    Movies: 400 MB
I'm most interested in Audio, Photos and Movies since I haven't added any to the device nor have I synced with iCloud.  Perhaps they are files that are pre-loaded on the OS?
Does this look normal for a right out-of-the box MacBook Pro?

    Parts of OS X.

  • When I open about this mac - more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth). Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desk-downloads)

When I open about this mac -> more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth) even though all the mac (programs , interface ) works smooth . Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desktop-downloads -no garbage there- everything neat and tidy.) Need some help. Only there it the animations goes like 2 fps and is not smooth. I do not understand why because the programs are the same so its the usage. Nothing is changed, yet i experience this little issue for a couple of days.

OK, I'm confused. When I do About this Mac > More Info in OS10.9, I don't see any animation other than the window resizing. Is that the animation you are describing?

  • About This Mac Storage shows wrong size

    Hello, the story so far
    Actions:
    - MBA early 2014 (128GB) maverick updated to yosemite in November 2014
    - fresh install of Yosemite via wifi in January 2015 - followed instructions as suggested here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14243
    Consequences after fresh installation:
    - About This Mac > Storage shows total hard disk size 120GB, About This Mac > Storage shows 110GB
    - About This Mac > Storage shows approx 9GB of apps. The actual applications folder size is far, far, far less than 9GB as showed in Terminal.
    - About This Mac > Storage shows approx 1GB of data for videos, audio and photos. There are no photos, video, documents stored on MBA.
For the records, no device data was sync after fresh installation and the trash is being emptied securely.
I am new to MAC so I would be grateful if you could help me understanding why About This Mac > Storage is showing more data stored than Terminal and Finder and what I should do to rectify the discrepancy.
Many thanks of your understanding and support.
    Cheers, puzzled_me

Kappy, may thanks. No difference, Get Info for the folders returns same data size as About This Mac > Storage
On a different note I have noticed that there are two Library folders under harddrive. See screenshot attached.
System/Library (6.8GB) folder contains subfolders that are also contained under Library (2.7GB) folder.
Could that be the problem?? Is that normal to have two Library folders??
    Thank you for your help.

  • How can I have ext hard disks show on "About this Mac/Storage" that are ousted and show on screen

I have Mac 10.9.5, Intel.  I was working in iMovie, when message came up and said I do not have enough space on my hard disk.. I have several hundred GB available.  All my ext. HD's appear on my screen.  In  "About this mac/storage" only my HD and two of the four external drives show up.  The two  ext. drives that show on "about This Mac" are full.  I have done a disk utility check on every drive and they are fine.  Also, the whole machine is very slow. I have rebooted also.

  • Wrong photos/videos reading in About This Mac - Storage Tab

I have updated to Photos from iPhotos but now when i hit about this mac and storage reading ... i get it all messed up it shows 1GB of photos where i have at least 20GB .. is there any way to fix this ? before i used to re-index the database but i don't know how to do this in the new app

IF you set up Photos to keep only an "optimized" library on your local drive, the size will be substantially smaller than if you chose to keep "original."
How large is the library when you navigate to your User > Pictures folder and check the size there?
