About to Replace Linksys WRT54Gs with new Cisco Valet Plus

Probably sounds like a dumb question, but I am ready to istall a new Cisco Valet plus router to replace my old Linksys WRT54GRS.  Do I need to record all of the old info such as SSID, Channel, Encryption, passphrase, and key code or will the "automatic" Cisco install system do this on it's own?  Just want to make sure I have everything I need done before I start installation on the router, base computer, and my remote access laptops.

Just follow the instructions on the manual. If there's a need to change or retain your previous settings, key it in while doing the configuration.

  • Replaced Linksys WRT54G with D-Link DIR-655, shared computers gone

I got tired of power cycling the Linksys so I got the D-Link and everything is good, except that I can't see my shared computers anymore, or remote login with Remote Desktop Connection.
My computer is a MacBook Pro, the other two are Windows XP desktops, and all are wireless. Edit: Also neither of the XPs can see each other, and they also could before.
I know it has something to do with the firewall on the new router, because it worked fine on the other. I think it has something to do with netbios and/or bonjour, but I don't know enough about them to figure out what to change.
    Thanks

GAH, I'm such a Noob. I finally remembered that Kaspersky Internet Security had to have the network set to trusted under its firewall settings. It's working fine now.

  • G62-234DX replaced hard drive with new Samsung 250 GB. Same size as installed.

G62-234DX  Hard drive dead.  I replaced hard drive with new Samsung 250 GB. SATA II hard drive and used the recovery Windows 7 Home edition DVD.  Error message appeared after windows loads files and starts windows from the recovery DVD.  An error dialog box opens after completing and indicates, This computer is not supported by the recovery discs.  You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs.  error: 0100-1425 -3627-3628-3623-3624.   Hit OK and system powers down.

    Hi:
If you purchased the recovery disks from HP, please see if making and running this first helps.

Before installing a new drive - it is generally better to install it in a external usb enclosure and connect it to your Macbook so you can format/erase the new drive and make an exact clone of the drive you wish to install, unless you plan on doing a clean install.

  • Linksys WRT54G with Cisco Aironet antennas

    Hi Cisco users,
    I've got a small project:
I need to provide a wireless network from a farmhous to a piggery:
Distance about 40 metres, no obstructions
    Equipment:     Linksys WRT54G v3.1
When i place the wrt54g to the most far point of the house (towards the piggery) i get a fairly stable signal of around 11Mbps
I want to strengthen the signal via an external antenna, preferrably outdoor.
    i'm thinking of this antenna:
Cisco Aironet 8.5-dBi Patch Antenna (AIR-ANT2485P-R)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/antenna/installation/guide/ant2485.html
or the same one as above only with 6 dBi.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/antenna/installation/guide/ant2460.html
Both the linksys and cisco aironet antenna's has RP-TNC connectors.
    My questions:
1: Can cisco aironet antenna's work with a linksys wrt54G, based on the same connectors.
2: Is the antenna strong enough? can i cover a distance of 40/50 meters with this antenna, or with the 6dBi version?
3: it's a directional antenna. the piggery is straigh ahead of the farm house. How much beam width do i have on the end of the signal for coverage?
4: maybe i need an extension cable. is this the right one?
    Cisco Aironet 5-ft, low-loss, 2.4-GHz RF cable with RP-TNC connectors (AIR-CAB005LL-R)
    http://www.comegacity.com/networking-wireless-b-bn/antennas-cables/cisco-air-cab005ll-r-aironet-5-low-loss-cable
    Thanks in advance.

The connector has to be the same but also the impedance. Cisco APs are at 50 ohms. Not sure about linksys ...
Otherwise if you put the antenna outdoor and there is no obstacle, 40/50m should be reached with those antennas. Take the lowest length of cable possible to put the antenna outdoor though as cable brings loss.
I can't comment about if the 6dbi will be enough as this would require experience with the same hardware which I don't have.
    My 2 cents

  • Bonjour not working with new Cisco Gateway from Shaw

I have a PC running Windows 7 (64 bit version) and a 2nd gen iPad.  On the PC, I have AirPrint for Windows, Shairport4w, Calibre (for e-books) and AirVideo Server installed.  These used to allow me to print from my iPad to the Samsung ML-1670 connected to my PC, stream videos from my PC to my iPad, play my iPad's music through my PC's speakers (and vice versa through itunes homesharing) and download my PC-hosted e-books to my iPad's Stanza app wirelessly. It was a like a little Bonjour paradise in my house.
Then I upgraded to Shaw's new Broadband 50 internet and accordingly swapped my old SMC gateway for their new Docsis 3-capable Cisco DPC 3825.  As soon as my new gateway was installed, all Bonjour-dependent apps ceased to function properly.  I can no longer find any of my PC stuff from my iPad.  Even my PC's shared iTunes library doesn't show up in my iPad's iPod app anymore.  I've disabled all firewalls (even though firewalls should not be causing this issue), restarted PC, iPad and gateway many times, restarted the Bonjour and Airprint services alone, reinstalled Bonjour from the Apple support site, set my PC as the DMZ host in the gateway, disabled WiFi protected mode in the gateway and set the wireless to use G only, and etc, and etc.  Never do I see a change.  Cisco, Shaw and Apple tech support have all referred me to each other. I am about to give up and get my own wireless router to use instead of the free one Shaw's provided, but thought I'd check here first in case some one else had found a good solution.
A couple of additional clues: my (wired) PS3 can see the DLNA-dependent PS3 media server on my PC fine with the new gateway, and other forums do mention similar issues with a different Linksys router.  The solution there was to enable multicast filtering in the router.  I have not been able to find this option in the Cisco's settings, but perhaps it's called something else?

Same issue here.  It looks like another case of half-baked Linksys firmware (It may say Cisco, but it's the spitting image of the Linksys firmware).
Apparently with some work you can get shaw support to convert the modem/router into "bridge mode" which will make it act like a regular modem.  In any case though, these "hybrids" aren't as reliable as a separate modem and router.
Just got it today and it looks like for all of the high end features (Gigabite ethernet, wireless N) the router is still antennae-less and running shoddy Linksys firmware with bugs.  Apparently end-users are also not supposed to attempt to update the firmware (which I would have to agree with).
At the end of the day, we're going back to a DGL-4500 which worked without a problem.

  • Can't replace old text with new text in a text box

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting in the forum, so I'm hoping this works out well. We recently purchased a few copies of Adobe Acrobt X for the office, and one of the users is having an issue with editing text in a field. She can type new text into a box, but when she goes back to replace that text with something else, the old text stays. New text appears on top of the old text, and you can see both. Is there a way to simply highlight the old text, delete it, and then replace it with new text? Thanks in advanace for your assistance. I understand this might be confusing, so let me know if you have questions.
    Thanks,
    Dan

You have to use the text touchup tool (there is a new name like text edit tool in AA X) to edit such text. It sounds like you are using the typewriter tool or something like it. Text editing in Acrobat is not for the weak at heart. It can be very frustrating and is not recommended except for very minor changes. If at all possible, you should edit the original and just recreate the PDF.

  • Replace playing video with new one in osmf player

    Hi,
I have a problem with loading new video in osmf player. First video is loaded from the emmbed code, and I use ProxyElement to comunicate with MediaLEment and to load my plugin. But after some actions in my plugin I need to load another video in the Player. By changing the DisplayedObject from the proxiedElement I am loading the new video but the old video from emmbed code is still runing on the back. Does anyone know how to remove mediaElement created by the player or to replace with new one, ot at least to disable that video from playing. I tried with everything and it doesn't work.
    Thanks

    hi,
you can change into new Data Source.
From new Data Source you can load data into the old ods.
but if you want to kepp the old records as it is, then don't delete data in the ods.
    hope this helps......

  • Replace existing footage with new footage, while keeping chapter markers ?

I have prepared my DVD with menus and chapter markers etc ready for burn.
I just noticed that my edit is wrong. Is their a way to replace exiting edit with the new one ? while maintaining chapter markers ?
    Thanks in advance.

Replacing content like that almost always results in problems trying to encode/multiplex the project. You need to start a new project and reinsert your chapter marks. Sorry.

  • Kelly speca is having battery issues with new iPhone 6 plus.

    Hi this is Kelly Speca,
I have a serious issue with my iPhone 6 plus. While watching movies or rather playing some basic games, the battery drains out very fast. It is a s fast as that I have to charge the phone almost 2 times a day...Also the phone touch screen becomes unbarely hot.So can anyone help me with some suggestions..
    Thanks,
    Kelly Speca.

It may be worth your while to engage with Apple in a chat online or go to an Apple store. It seems as if you have some hardware issues that need to be sorted out
But here is a test I would do to check the battery drain:
    1. Do this at night before going to bed
    2. use app switcher and close all apps
    3. Go into settings - cellular and turn cellular data off
    4. Put phone in airplane mode
    5. Charge phone to 100%
    6. Then un hook it from the charger and let it sit overnight and see what the battery percentage is, in the morning
This will tell you if the battery itself is not performing up to par......

  • Strange issue with new Cisco Catalyst 2960 (IOS)

    Hello all,
I am upgrading a older 2950(100M) switch replacing it with a gigabit 2960. Installed it in the same rack, the configuration is practically non-existent just set the passwords and IP. We run a single VLAN flat network for this so I started out by patching it to the existing switch, after a few days we had an opportunity to migrate because there was some downtime so I disconnected the cables on the old and moved them to the new.. Everything seemed fine, there is connectivity and things operate, but a few days later we noticed that some network transfer activities are slow. There are no errors or log entries showing on the new switch or the old one, but the low throughput is persistent.
All ports show 1G Full duplex as they should, but what I see when I test is that traffic tests look almost asynchronous when passing switch boundaries with normal read speeds and slow writes. Reversing the direction of the test hosts I get slow reads and fast writes so it seems to 'stick' to one side of the traffic path. Testing the same equipment against differente targets without the switch boundary crossing does not show the problem. All Intra-switch tests look good (gig switches transfer near a gig and 100 switches near 100), but the moment there is a crossing things behave strangely regardless of the target (new switch is center backbone with most hosts, but does no routing). Network layout is essentially a T with everything radiating from the new switch. I can eliminate the old switch soon, but I still need to resolve the problem with the crossing to the other switch.
Everything seems to point at the inter switch links. One is a patch cable under two feet, and the other is a dedicated fiber site link. We had the vendor confirm that the site link showed no issues, but having the same symptoms on both links makes me suspect the switch has something odd happening..
I checked for duplex issues first, but didn't find any. I flushed the arp caches in all of the switches (3 total) and all of the computers as well, but the problem persists.
Could this be an STP issue ?   If so how can I set this switch as the STP root and force a refresh..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There really isn't anything odd configured, but since CDP doesn't cross the fiber link I think it must be a q-q tunnel..

  • How to replace Match library with new library

Been using iTunes as my music manager/player since 2003. Currently have about 5,000 songs which are a mix of selective CD song rips, iTunes purchases and Amazon Mp3 downloads. Lots of missing artwork, incomplete albums, wrong genres, etc. I use iTunes Match to sync across multiple Macs and iOS devices, including 3 Apple TVs. It all works OK, but I recently undertook a major project to re-rip all of my CDs/Box Sets in their entirety – about 20,000 tracks. I performed the new rips on a Mac Mini running Windows 7 in BootCamp using Roxio Creator to get a 'universal' Mp3 (256kbs) format and keep everything separate and apart from my current iTunes/Match libraries. Total library size came out around 80-85GB, saved on an external USB HDD.
Recently had my iMac 1TB HDD replaced under Apple’s recall program and looked at it as an opportunity to totally rebuild my iTunes library from scratch using the new, complete album rips. I’ve loaded the new 80GB library onto the iMac and am currently using TuneUp Media to ‘clean up’ metadata and album artwork on the new library. I've turned off iTunes Match to isolate the iMac during this stage of the process.
When cleanup is complete, I would like to totally replace my current iTunes Match library with the new larger library. I think the songs will sync OK, but I’ve put a lot if effort into cleaning up the album artwork and am afraid that, if I don't take some precautions, iTunes Match will overrule and mess up my new artwork when I activate it.
    My plan is to
From the iMac, first copy (or should I export) the entire rebuilt library to an external drive as a backup, hopefully preserving all of the artwork and metadata corrections in the process (true?).
On my MacBook Pro, copy my current Match library to a different external drive to ensure preservation of any unique tracks I may have missed in building the new library. Then delete the entire library – both local and Cloud. I should then have an empty iTunes Match library, correct?
Then, on my iMac, activate iTunes Match and let it upload/match all the new songs/data to create a new Cloud library with all the new albums, descriptors and artwork.
Do I need to individually deactivate Match and delete local libraries on all my other devices also, or does the total Cloud library delete I perform on my MacBook Pro then transfer to all my other registered iOS and OSX devices that have Match activated?

    Quick question, Michael
When I copy the iTunes  folder to an external drive, does all the iTunes metadata and associated album artwork travel together with the raw music file?

  • Replacing CUCM VMs with newer ones?

    Hey all,
I recently upgraded from 8.6 to 9.1, all is well. I have 2 questions:
    1. In order to meet the disk size requirements, do I have to build new machines and restore from DRS? If so, since they have to be built identical, any suggestions on doing this without causing a production outage?
    2. Unity upgrade threw back an error stating the machines did not meet requirements, same as above?
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Change Virtual Machine Configuration Specifications
Use the following procedure when you need to change the configuration specifications on your virtual machine (VM) in order to upgrade to a new release of Unified Communications Manager or IM and Presence Service. Configuration specifications include the vCPU, vRAM, and vDisk size. For information about VM requirements, see the Readme file with the OVA template that supports your release. Details about OVA templates are available on the Virtualization Docwiki at http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Implementing_Virtualization_Deployments.
    Procedure
    Step 1
Perform a Disaster Recovery System (DRS) backup. For more information about performing a backup, see the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Disaster Recovery Administration Guide.
    Step 2
(Optional.) If you need to increase the vDisk space to meet the space requirements of a refresh upgrade, install the following COP file: ciscocm.vmware-disk-size-reallocation-<latest_version>.cop.sgn
    Step 3
    Shut down the virtual machine.
    Step 4
Change the configuration of the virtual machine as needed:
Change the Guest OS version to match the requirements of the new release (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (64-bit).
To change the vCPU, make the change in vSphere Client. Ensure that you change the reservation value to match the specifications of the new release.
To change the vRAM, make the change in vSphere Client. Ensure that you change the reservation value to match the specifications of the new release.
To increase the vDisk space, edit the disk size using vDisk. If the virtual machine has two disks, expand the second one. The new space is automatically added to the common partition when you restart the virtual machine.
    Note
You need to change the disk size changes only if you need additional space to complete the upgrade. The disk space requirements are specified in the Readme file for the OVA template.
Expanding the disk size to add space to the common partition will not increase the user capacity of your system. If you need to extend the user capacity of your system, you must migrate from a single-disk to a multi-disk virtual machine; seeReplace a Single Server or Cluster for Cisco Unified Communications Manager for more information.
For more information about making configuration changes using vSphere Client, refer to the user manual for the product.
    Step 5
Modify the Network Adapter to use the VMXNET 3 Adapter type. For information about modifying the Network Adapter to meet the requirements of this release, see the Readme file for the OVA template.
    Step 6
Upgrade the software to the latest version.
    Step 7
    Power on the virtual machine.

  • Trying to synch music from iTunes to Apple iPhone4 to replace old items with new

When I try to synch selected music albums only and request that these replace previously synched albums on my iPhone4 (16GB), the synch part completes and still leaves all old items on the phone. How do I get rid of the old music to create enough space on my phone for new selected items of music. This only seems to have become a problem after one of the recent iOS upgrades.

Found the solution to my problem.  First to colingoree, yes, the music does play from the computer.  The problem was with the phone itself, not the ITunes software or computer operating system.  After all failed attempts of the suggestions made by many, and the hours trying to solve and find a solution, in desperation I performed a hard reset within the phone settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings, then hard rebooted the phone pressing the home key and top button for about 3 seconds.  This completly reset the phone, and yes! now  the sync process works with ITunes, all music selected is downloaded to the phone, and WORKS!
This was a drastic measure to do a complete reset, but it was my only solution.  When I purchased the phone, something must of happened when the dealer was puting in my contacts and such from the ICloud. Hope this helps to many out there, and yes thank you for the many suggestions.

  • ITunes wants to replace IPod contents with New Laptop Library

Help please guys. Please bear with me while I will try and explain what my problem is.
Purchased new laptop, loaded ITunes, authorised laptop as the 3rd of my 5 allowable computers, then finally transferred all purchased content to my Laptop via my IPod. I have since purchased various TV shows and songs off ITunes to my Laptop ITunes library. I have only now tried to sync my IPod for the first time with my Laptop and noticed that ITunes did not sync this new content. I then discovered that the reason for this may have been due to all the sync options were unchecked for all the media types which would explain why nothing happened.
Simple, I thought. I would check all the media types for sync and end of. No such luck. Each time I checked the option to sync any of the media type; a message would appear to warn me that the contents of my IPod would be replaced by the contents of my ITunes library. This I do not want. I wish to keep all my purchased content held on both my laptop and my IPod. Isn’t the point of synchronisation to update both the computer and IPod making sure both devices contain the same up-to date media irrespective to the contents of either.
Am I missing something really simple here or are these things made deliberately difficult?
    Any advice would be appreciated
    Thanks –tred3
