About to throw out Quicktime!

I have always been a fan of the Keynotes. I realize that the site may have a little bit more traffic today because of the new ipod video. However, I am fed up with the choppy timed out playback of the streaming. Please let me know how the heck I can get the video to stream well. I have quicktime Pro so is there someway I can download the stream and watch it after it downloads? How do the people on youtube get those on the net? They always seem to be exactly what is shown on the Apple site.
I hate being forced to view these things on youtube because of the time limits, but at least it is a consistent and reliable video!

It is possible that your ISP could have placed bandwidth limitations on your account for some unknown reasons - I would give them a call and find out what your upload vs. download rates are currently set at.
Also check out Speakeasy's Speed Test - it's by no means 100% accurate, but gives you a general idea of what your current transfer speeds are.
Or... it is possible that someone else who shares your domain was being a bandwidth hog at the time you were trying to watch the Keynote address. It's been known to happen quite frequently, what with the file sizes of torrent transfers occurring nowadays.
Those are my guesses - you have an adequate amount of memory and processing speeds going for you as far as your machine goes.
I don't think it's a QuickTime problem, especially if you are able to view local video files normally with ease. Don't think it is a browser plug-in problem, either.
One last thought - at the time you were trying to watch the video, were you running any other applications that were memory intensive?

About to throw out my AEBS and replace it with an old D-Link

Hi,
Bought the Airport Extreme in March and connected an Iomega USB disk and a HP printer to it. The WLAN consist of a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo, Dell Inspiron (Linux) and 3 XP machines. In addition there is an Airport Express (streaming music).
To summarize my experience; I am not at all satisfied...
1) The network disk is divided into 2 partitions. One of them disappear from the Finder every second day or so. The other one used for backups seem to last much longer (don't know whether the reason is that it's accessed every day by the backup utility while the other isn't used regularly). Occasionally the backup device disappear as well.
2) The Airport Express is gone after a few days. I then need to re-start the AEBS with Airport Utility to get it back.
3) Suddenly some of the machines on the local network cannot communicate with each other. Ping to the base station often works fine but pinging other machines doesn't work. -> Since I am using the network and machines in my job I'll have to reboot the base station about 3-5 times every week because of this.
4) I had hoped that the latest 7.1.1 firmware should solve a lot of these problems, but it didn't, in fact it became worse. Normally I have a download speed at 18Mb. With 7.1.1 over WLAN it occasionally dropped to a 100-200Kb, if I wire one of the machines into the AEBS the download speed is fine again. (The other problems remain with 7.1.1).
I am so close to switch back to my old D-Link base station. It worked flawless for 2 years...
Anyone else with similar experiences or even solutions?

I too thought /tmp was the MySQL standard location for the socket file, although perhaps "standard" is really platform-specific.
I know that the package from MySQL comes preconfigured to put the socket in /tmp, but maybe the only reason is so it doesn't conflict with the default OS X Server socket file.
My Debian installation has the socket by default going into /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock.

My calendar is blocked. The server has a problem. I am trying everything, but since days I have no access to my agenda anymore. I am about to throw my MacBook Air out of the window :-( How can I solve this problem? My calendar does not react to anything!!

4. Exit iCal and start again (I did this, but don't get anywhere near a solution).
5. Done (cry, cry, nothing changed for days now and I am about to throw everything out of my window :-))

yes I have an upgraded Iphoto 11 from 9.4.3 ........ unfortunately .... no it didn't solve the problem. Of course my illiteracy is no help ..... but I did as you suggested and nothing changed at all. When I highlight a photo I am unable to minimize it and despite changing folders (ie:photos to events) all that happens is that the events folder opens behind the opened photo. The only solution is to go to "force quit" even though there is no sign to say "iphoto is not responding". and start again ..... very frustrating. Appreciate any suggestion you have ...

1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
Then tap Settings > General > Software Update

Should I throw out my old sim card when getting new iphone? (verizon)

The SIM is pretty much useless. If you've already given the iPhone 5 to someone else and didn't take out the SIM, don't worry about it. If you haven't given the phone away yet, take the SIM out.

That's consistent with another application (other than QuickTime) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on the PC.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.

What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

Transitions are throwing out my timings....

Ok...I am a newbie to Mac but am having some crazy problems with iMovie and timing of stills, titles and transitions. Each time I add a transition it throws out all my times for my titles and my stills. For example I want all my titles to be 3s long and all my stills to be 4s long...however they change as soon as I add transitions...is this just a part of iMovie or is there a way to control this! Thanks a lot for your help! Liz

A transition will "borow" frames from the preceding clip and the next clip. Some transitions, like Fade through Black, will keep the length of your movie the same. Other more complex transitions may make your movie slightly longer.
For example, (Note: it is helpful to convert from seconds to frames)
Before:
(still 1 = 90 frames) (still 2 = 90 frames) =====> Overall length = 180 frames
After applying Fade to Black transition at 1/2 second (= 15 frames)
(Still 1 = 82 frames) (Transition = 16 frames) (Still 2 - 82 frames) ====> Overall length = 180 frames
If you care more about the 3 second length of your stills than the run time of your movie, try setting the parameter in File/Project Properties/Timing to set stills to be 3 seconds and apply to all still in project. This should over-ride the changes made by the transitions.
Note that if you were doing video, it would be very important for the overall length to remain the same. For one thing, if it kept three seconds of video, then added extra frames to do the transition, your transitions would consist of "out-takes" - things you had edited out.

d) that a large number of new members have no idea about the very basics of netiquette, never mind how to frame their question or state their problem with sufficient clarity and technical details in order to provide assistance.
But so typical.. never mind acknowledging just how OTN assists many people, let's rather focus on the small number of postings that is deemed to be "offensive" according to someone's sensitive sense of politically correctness.

In PS module transaction CJ40 after detail planning back button throws out

In CJ40 primary cost planning we come back to annual view by clicking back button now if i press back button system throws out from transaction CJ40 . rather to come back to element overview screen. Anybody can give me solution for this as the user suffer most during the cost planning of project having more than 100 WBS. if by mistake he click button in middle of his work . all his work lost and he has to do it again it should ask for saving or not . please give me solution

Are you uploading the data manually through transaction code?
It is better if you create a program to manage planning data and upload the data at one go. You will save a lot of time.
You can use FM 'KBPP_EXTERN_UPDATE_CO' for CJ40.
You can also go for BDC recording but if there is a FM or a BAPI available for it then better is to use FM/BAPI.

Currently we are using XSOM parser with DomAnnotationParserFactory to parse XSD file. For small files it is working fine. However is was throwing out of memory error while parsing 9MB file. We could understood reason behind this. Is there any way to resolve this issue?
