About Typekit, Edge Fonts and Google Fonts real utility for Web Designers

Hello,
Perhaps it´s a simple situation for the majority of CC User but I´m a little bit confused about that. I have a TypeKit plan included in my Creative Cloud subscription. I have then the possibility of use Web Fonts included in Typeset (which is awesome, by the way). My problem comes when I try to use a TypeKit font for a client who does´t want to pay for a TypeKit plan and I can´t use the same font in the trial plan which is a great way of convince the client he needs TypeKit for a better typography access.
So, my questions are:
There is available TypeKit fonts in Adobe Edge fonts too?
The only fonts available in Edge Fonts are Google Fonts?
How can I know if a specific TypeKit font is available in TypeKit Trial Plan too without searching the entire catalog filtered by Trial Library or in Adobe Edge?
Do you recommend to me a workflow in which I can use TypeKit fonts for clients avoiding the need to pay the client for that font? (it´s hard to convince him, not to use free alternatives like Google Fonts or Adobe Edge Fonts)
Thanks in advance.

I haven’t tried it so this may be a shot in the dark but you might be able to hack into the CSS and use @font-face to call a local font.
Check the license of the font to be sure it allows this.

  • How to install both infinality-fonts and google-fonts?

I would like to install (one of the) google-fonts AUR packages, but it conflicts with infinality font packages.  Is there a way to only install the fonts from the google-fonts package which don't already exist in infinality versions?

karol wrote:Maybe you can just 'rm -rf' the fonts that are already provided by infinality font packages?
It's a bit complicated. I checked to see if the otf-google-fonts-hg package would work as none of infinality-bundle-fonts are OTF. Nope. bohoomil has conflicts for all sorts of packages and the font names aren't obvious:
    ~ > pacman -Qi ttf-chromeos-ib | egrep "Name|Conflicts"
    Name : ttf-chromeos-ib
    Conflicts With : otf-google-fonts-hg ttf-google-fonts-git ttf-google-fonts-hg ttf-chromeos-fonts ttf-chromeos-extra-fonts
There is no font by that name in the otf-google-fonts-hg package; it's an infinality font meta-package.

  • After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start

After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start! When I start FireFox the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" opens as if FF just crashed??? I don't see any records in event viewer. I am using FF v3.6.3 on a Windows 7 box. I tried uninstalling 3.6.3 and installing 3.0.18 and had the same problem!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== After a uninstalled all fonts including system fonts and then reinstalling system fonts. ==
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; GTB6.4; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; AskTB5.5)

The files with submitted crash report ids are inside the ''submitted '' directory, from the directory you found the LastCrash.txt timestamp file.
The file names will begin with '''bp-'''
There might be more information from the crash report, but it might just tell us you are crashing the first time Firefox tries to use a font.
One thing I suppose you could do is select only those fonts you've got in Tools -> Options -> Content -> Fonts and Colors -> Advanced and then uncheck the '''Allow pages to use their own fonts''' option.
    See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Content+panel#Fonts_Dialog
To be honest, I can't find anything on this Netscape Font Navigator and it sounds highly dubious.

  • The change to a different font was not done because the chosen font and the font encodings in the do

    Hi,
I created a PDF from a Word document that used Cambria font, and when I select it in Acrobat to try to change the font I get "The change to a different font was not done because the chosen font and the font encodings in the document differ and could not be resolved"
How can I change the font and why is it preventing me from doing so?
    Thanks,
    Juan

    Juan,
No, Acrobat is not a word processor.
More to the point Acrobat lets one "work" PDF and PDF is not a file format designed as a word processing, editing, formating, or page layout file format.
PDF is, essentially, a "final destination" format.
What it is is described in the ISO Standard for  PDF (ISO 32000-1).

  • Can I sync PC fonts and Mac fonts using Creative Cloud?

Can I sync PC fonts and Mac fonts using Creative Cloud?

Well, you should have a dedicated sync MIDI cable. Assign Logic to transmit MTC. Tell Cubase to chase it.
    Song settings>Synchronization>MIDI
that is where you can tell Logic to transmit MTC. When routing back to Logic you shuld not expect significant latency and there are ways to offset it. The easiest would probably tell Cubase to run a little ahead of the clock. (Offset)
So there is the Logic settings panel Cubase has one similar, for chasing. If you use a dedicated audio interface and transfer audio digitally from PC to Mac then you would want to have then synced via word clock. I would put Logic as the master here again.

  • Vidaloka - Typekit font or Google font?

When I started building my website some months ago I selected Vidaloka for headings – I am sure it was in Typekit as otherwise (AIUI) only basic Mac fonts can be used.I wanted to give the site a distinctive look and feel – it is supposed to be a bit like a newspaper.
But now it seems to have disappeared from Typekit.
But it is in Google fonts.
I have seen posts telling me that to use the Google font I have to put various bits of HTML in various places, eg page properties and headers. Don't quite understand this  – I come from a newspaper editing background [InDesign is my native app]
My site is londonsriver.com and Vidaloka is used half a dozen times on each of 30 pages.
Do I have to put the HTML code into EVERY HEADING on EVERY PAGE? And then continue doing that with the next 20 pages in the pipeline?
Or is it easier just to find a new Typekit font that looks good and fits?
    Any helpful suggestions welcome.
    Ken

Believe me, I understand the pain. Unfortunately there's only so much we can do at Adobe as the EULAs provided by the foundries for their respective fonts are very explicit in where you can and can not use them.
For example, packaging an InDeisgn file and sending it off for pre-press with the fonts included in the package is in direct violation of most font EULAs. In a studio environment, you're only allowed to have a font installed on n number of computers and need to have multiple licenses to accomidate >n number of seats. When creating a PDF, fonts explicitly have to be subsetted before embedding into the PDF.
That's just to paint a picture of the fragile state of using fonts in print, usage in digital mediums is just another bee in your bonnet when it comes to considering when you can and cannot use a font.
Services like Typekit Desktop are trying to make this easier by removing a lot of those pain and condierations for you, by blanketing all these fonts under a single license you're free to use for print and the web. There's still some gotchyas, but we're aiming to greatly reduce how much you have to think about it where we can.
So yes there's a bit of education when it comes to mixing embedded HTML content/fonts with DPS, but at least there's options

  • What font and sizings should I use for pocket magazine?

    Hi
I am nearly finished with a 165 x 120mm puzzle magazine but need to play with the font family and sizing so that its best for printing as crisply as possible.
Currently I'm using Helvetica Neue LT Std - 65 Medium, font size 11px (14px), I am thinking about changing to Arial Regular, 9px (11px), but what would be a standand font and size for good printing practice for A5 and smaller booklet/magazines?
Any advice here would be great thanks.
    Ash

Sounds like you set up for an interactive document rahter than for print in the initial setup. No major harm done. Right-click the squer inthe upper left corner betweenthe rulers and reset the units to inches and see if the type reverts to points, if not, you may be able to change it in the prefs, and failing all there is a 1:1 relationship between px and pt in InDesign.
None of the above has anythign to do with your question about suitability. There's no good reason I can think of to choose Arial over the Helvetica Neue in any size. And I don't think there are any "standards" for how small the type should be. Are you expecting your readers to be older and have difficulty with small type? Will everything that needs to be on the pages fit at 11 pt? I would advise using the larger type, if possible, to help the vision impaired, but I also suggest you print a few pages and look at them in both sizes. Are they readable, or does one look like a sea of gray?

  • Mangal Fonts and Tunga Fonts in (MS Home and Student 2010) Word 2010 not getting converted into PDF

Why do I get a totally blank PDF file whenever I try to convert any (Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, Version: 14.0.6029.1000) Word document file containing either Mangal Fonts (Hindi) and Tunga Fonts (Kannada) into a PDF file (by using Adobe Acrobat X Standard - English, Version: 10.1.4, Program File Size: 1790 MB, Complete/Full Version) after formatting and reinstalling all the necessary software / softwares (Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 and Windows XP Service Pack 3, Version: 20080414-031525, Program File Size: 9.08 MB)?
    I'm using
    01) Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3
    02) Computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 3.00 GHz, 504 MB of RAM
    03) Windows XP Service Pack 3, Version: 20080414-031525, Program File Size: 9.08 MB

    06) Windows Internet Explorer 8, Version: 20090308.140743, Program File Size: 4.20 MB
Any Word 2010 document file that has been converted into any PDF File unfortunately does not show either the Mangal (Hindi) Fonts or the Tunga (Kannada) Fonts.
The PDF file will unfortunately become/remain totally/fully/completely blank.
When I convert an Excel Workbook having the Tunga Fonts (Kannada) to/into a PDF File, some of the Tunga fonts in the PDF file are legible and some are unfortunately illegible (get superimposed / overwritten on each other).
Perhaps I may get the same result if I try to convert an Excel Workbook having the Mangal Fonts (Hindi) to/into a PDF File with some Mangal fonts being/becoming legible and the rest being/becoming illegible (getting superimposed / overwritten on each other).

My chronological sequence of steps to create a Word 2010 Document or an Excel 2010 Workbook:
I first create a Word Document File or an Excel Workbook File and save it by giving an appropriate file name.
Then I right click on the closed Word Document File or the Excel Workbook File in the file folder and convert it into a PDF by retaining the same/original file name.
The font list of Microsoft Word 2010 claims/says/states that both Mangal and Tunga are True Type fonts and also that these fonts will/would be used on both printer and screen.
In case if there is any text content in English in the beginning it will get converted into PDF only till/until either a Mangal(Hindi)/Tunga(Kannada) Font starts.
The remaining English text content does not get converted into/to PDF the moment a Mangal(Hindi)/Tunga(Kannada) Font starts. If the entire matter is purely (100 per cent) in English text it will fully / completely / totally get converted into a PDF file without any problem.

  • Chinese Font and English Font in one paragraph

I am working on a book translated from English into Traditional Chinese, using Indesign CS4 under WinXP sp3. In many cases I need to put English words among Chinese Characters. I set up Character Styles to apply the English Fonts I want, then doing word by word manually. Besides of the slow speed, it's easy to make mistakes doing by hand. I desperatly want to find a way to set up PARAGRAPH STYLES that I can specify both Chinese and English Fonts in a same paragraph stye. Will be very apprecited if someone please teach me how to get it.

Yes it can be done in CS4.  I am doing a billingual book in Chinese and English.  What you can do is select the paragraph,
    1. Open "Paragraph styles", double click - "Basic Paragraph", Select "Basic Character Formats", Change the Font to a Chinese Character (e.g. SimSun and the size is 12)
    2. Don't close the box, then select "GREP Style", select "New GREP Style", click "Apply Styel" and Select "New Character Style"
    3. a New Character Style Box comes up, then select "Basic Character Formats" and select the English Character (e.g. Arial and the size is 14), then OK.
    4. Will back to Paragraph styles box, then click "To Text" and select "Wildcards" and select "Any Letters", then click OK. It is done!!
I tried many ways before, and how I am getting used to it.  Remember, if you have many different styles need to be set, (for example: Title (with both languages), contents (with both languages), you can set different Character's Name for different purposes when the "New Character Style" box comes up.

  • Missing Fonts and Embedding Fonts

I've run into some strange behavior using Flash Catalyst, and I can't seem to find a solution.
I've created a project that uses a custom font. The font displays just fine in the design window, however whenever I open the project it says the font is "missing". Yet the font still shows up in the font list and is properly installed in my font directory on OSX.
Additionally, when I deploy the project to the web I select "embed fonts". When I load up the website, the font initially appears correctly, however hovering over or clicking on the text buttons changes the font to a default font in a very strange and unpredictable way. Here's the website for reference: http://www.neighbors-film.com
I believe this is related to FC being unable to find the font file, however I'm not sure how to tell it where the file is located.
    Any suggestions?

    Hey Mykill G,
To use preflight tool, you might need to go to Tools > Print Production > Preflight > PDF fixups > Embed fonts >Edit
Then, Edit Profile window will appear. In this, select Fonts under Embed fonts category and click 'unlock' from the right hand side.
You can now click on 'Add' button to add the desired fonts.
Also, You might check font permissions for Acrobat at the following link:
Additional License Rights, font permission list | Adobe
Please let me know whether your query is resolved.

  • Strange fonts, and some fonts not displaying at all

    Hiya
I've recently been having problems with Firefox not displaying text correctly - instead it comes up with some jumbled weird characters.
Here are a few things I've already tried:
    * I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox (I am currently on v3.6.10)
    * I've tried and reinstalled all the default font families in my Control Panel > Fonts
Here are some screenshots of what I mean:
    http://img815.imageshack.us/img815/4277/personalbuissnescardbus.png
In this one, there should be some text on the left hand side in the menu and also some useful text where the jumbled characters are near the bottom of the page.
    [http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/331/9gagchangesofthebatsymb.png external link]
    http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/331/9gagchangesofthebatsymb.png
In this one, there should be some text in the top header, on the right hand side and also in the comments in the whitespace at the bottom
Its been like this for a while now, but its now starting to irritate as its making it difficult to read some pages.
Hugely appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.<br />
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.<br />
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.

  • Printer - how to access defaultprinter fonts and loaded fonts in one job ( ie Arial 15 / etc )

We have a file that contains font definitions that get loaded to the printer.
These show on our PCL font list as "permanent soft fonts",
and we access them by their font id number. If we just use the fonts that we loaded,
our print step ( print layout/etc) is ok. If we try to access a font that exists
on the printer, say Arial, which has both an escape sequence and an
"internal xx" number, our print layout (grid), gets shifted to the right.
We access the Arial font by :
esc%12345X and then the escape sequence for Arial font
    1. is there a way to refer to Arial ( or other printer default font )
while still in PCL mode using our loaded fonts ( by font id ) ?
    2. should we add Arial to our font load file ?
if yes, how do we do that ?
any help is appreciated, thank you

A friendly soul on ubuntuforums pointed out to me, that the wireless configuration is only necessary when the printer is NOT connected to a (W)LAN. So all I really had to do was to configure the printer in the CUPS administation page, and it worked. Problem solved. Silly me.

  • Fonts, fonts and more fonts. Which to remove?

I have a trillion fonts - and I don't need that many. What is the MINIMUM font set I can get away with? I have Suitcase, and I will have it activate fonts as needed - but I've got to trim down my system font list.
I've seen an older post that showed which fonts are needed - but I want to know what specifically I need for the system to work properly, for Safari to load and display pages properly, and for things to run right - but NO MORE THAN THAT.
I am pulling my hair out with pulldowns that have (literally) hundreds and hundreds of fonts.
    Thanks in advance...
