  • Virtual global user with vsftpd and pam?

    I followed the ArchWiki for setting up vsftpd with xinetd and pam.  It works great for our clients to be able to upload/download from their own directory and have some privacy.  Now I need to setup a couple of 'global' ftp user accounts that can be used by the production staff to browse the 'private' folders.  Anyone know how this can be done?  From what I've read so far, if guest_enable=YES, then local users cannot login even if local_enable=YES is set.
    Here's my vsftpd.conf:
    anonymous_enable=NO
    local_enable=YES
    write_enable=YES
    dirmessage_enable=YES
    tcp_wrappers=YES

  • How to get real time information about how many user are logged in and thei

    I use tomcat as my server platform in Ubuntu for a war file.
    I know in order to get real time information about how many user are logged in, we can count how many active sessions exist by a SessionCounter code. However, I have to permit HttpSessionListener in web.xml of tomcat. From other users' experiences, the configuration is complexed and has some errors.
    Here's the link:http://www.stardeveloper.com/article...1112001&page=1
    In order to get users' ip, in jsp, use request.getremotehost() or
    request.getremoteaddress() by editing the jsp file.
    I wonder if there's some open source software to use for these two purposes.
    Thank you!

    That url is missing a few bits. The ... in the middle doesn't help.

    From other users' experiences, the configuration is complexed and has some errors.And have you tried it? The configuration isn't that complex.
    What errors do you mean? Errors in tracking people, variance in the count? Probably related to internet issues and nothing you can do will alleviate them.

  • How to chroot a single ftp user in solaris 10

    Hi,
    I need to lock down a single ftp user so they cannot see outside of their home directory. Any advice or guides on the best way to do this?
    Thanks,

    Then you have to create a file /etc/shells (if it does not exist yet) where you have to put in every login shell with which "ftp" is allowed (i.e. if the user with the restricted shell is the only ftp user then the only entry is: /usr/lib/rsh. If you have another user with the Korn shell as login shell and this user should be able to "ftp" then you have to add the Korn shell as well).

  • Anonymous FTP User created by the system lacks the user name

    I'm experiencing some problems and inconsistencies in the Mac OS X Server 10.4.7 FTP service.
    First I'll report this behaviour to evaluate if it's worth a bug report.
    I read in the that the user with user name 'Anonymous FTP User" and short name 'ftp' is created by the system the first time the FTP server is accessed using an anonymous user.
    I noticed that the user is indeed created but its user name field is empty. It doesn't have the associated LDAP record, too.
    If I try to manually create a user with an empty user name field WGM errors, so could this be considered a bug?

  • Site Definition losing FTP User ID and Password

    My configuration:
    iMac 2.4 GHz Intel C2D
    10.6.1 Snow Leopard
    DW v10 (Build 4117)
    Not sure if my issue is related to the one described in this thread.
    I recently performed a clean install of Snow Leopard and DW. Afterwards I imported my site definitions and everything was fine. On quiting and then re-opening DW the FTP User ID and (optionally Password) in the site sefinition(s) have disappeared. I re-entered them and am able to connect to my site(s) via FTP, but again on closing and re-opening DW the information has disappeared again.
    What I've done;
    - deleted and re-configured all Site Definitions several times.
    - deleted the ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en_US/Configuration/ folder
    but still the problem persists.
    Not sure if this a Snow Leopard/DW incompatibility issue, but I do recall this happening maybe once or twice with Leopard.
    Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    I beleive this happens if:
    - you are using a trial version
    - you don't enter your keychain password to record this information
    I lost my kechain passwordon my mac,and i have to reenter password and FTP info everytime. Very frustrating util I can find the time to figure out how to reset my Mac keychain password.

  • Problems With FTP Users home directory

    Hello Everyone,
    I recently ran into a problem when setting the home directory of an ftp user. What I want to be able to do is for example I have two users, one user is User1, and the other is FTPUser. Now when people ftp into the user FTPUser I want to set the home directory to be a certain path in User1. Now I was able to successfully do this on one box when creating the FTPUser I just set the home directory to be the path in User1. And when people ftped into FTPUser they were in the right directory under User1.
    I tried to do this same procedure on another box, and after creating the FTPUser and setting its home directory to a path under User1. Now when they ftped into FTPUser it was showing that the home directory was "/". I examined /etc/passwd and it presents the right home directory that I want, yet when people ftp into FTPUser its showing the home directory to be "/". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    -Kevin

    Sorry for such a late reply, but I figured out my problem and will put it on here in case other people run into the same problem. You must make the FTPUser be in the same group of the normal users directory path you wish to FTP into. For example the command will look like this when making the FTP user:
    useradd -g "users group number" -d /path/to/file -s /bin/sh ftpusername
    so if user1 group id was 110 you would put 110 after -g and set the home dir of the ftpusername to be some path in user1. Thanks all for the help.

  • Restrict FTP User to a Directory

    I am using Solaris 10 on SPARC.
    SunOS ddw 5.10 Generic_139555-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise
    I have put some text files in a directory '/u01/network'
    I want to create a ftp user which can just read the files in the network directory. The ftp user shouldn't be able to navigate or see any other directory outside of the network directory.
    The user ftp_usr is the owner of /u01/network directory.
    Following are settings in /etc/passwd:
    ftp_user:x:3008:1::/u01/network:/usr/bin/ftp-only
    The settings in the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess:
    allow-retrieve relative class=realusers /u01/network
    restricted-uid ftp_user
    Please advise.

    The problem has resolved. It was a permission issue.

  • FTP User's root directory gets overwritten

    When i touch the settings for "Other" in any ftp share, all root directories for ftp users get overwritten so they point to that specific share.
    I have to dis- and reenable read and write permissions for the desired share to point the user back to the directory.
    Also i had to add /usr/bin/false to /etc/shells to get ftp access to work at all according to this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4341259?start=0&tstart=0
    Any idea what causes this misbehaviour and how to fix it?

    Which OS X or OS X Server version?
    Across the OS X Server versions I can recall using, the setting for the ftp server directory has been system-wide.
    Services aren't usually logging in, thus don't have a shell established, so I'm not sure why the shell change was necessary; interactive users should be able to log in via ftp.
    In general, sftp is usually preferable to ftp, and for many and varied reasons.

    I can primarily speak for the Mac myself, although I do use the Windows versions at work on occassion, but this problem is usually due to either insufficient permissions (what user level are the users that are having trouble) or corrupted cache files.  Try this KB article to re-create a user preferences folder for Windows:

  • Permissions for FTP users on vsftpd / Ubuntu 14 (AWS)

    For example, something like this:
    BASH#!/bin/bash
    for i in $(ls /home);
    do
    /bin/chown -R $user:$i /home/$i
    done
    The above script will go through and recursively change the ownership on all subdirectories of the "/home" directory to be owned by the user "user" and a group matching the name of the subdirectory.  (assuming all of your client groups match the subdirectories associated with their FTP shares under the home directory)

    Please bare with me as I am somewhat of a noob with linux servers. Hoping someone here can assist or tell me if what I am trying to accomplish is even possible.
    Background:
    I've created an Ubuntu instance on Amazon EC2 that I would like to use as an FTPs portal between our company and some of our clients. I used vsftpd to accomplish this, I can connect and things are working.
    I created ftp users for our 'clients' that are each restricted to their own home directories. For each FTP user, I mount an EBS (Elastic Block Storage) volume which is used for the share. Each client-user may have one of two configurations:
    1. Full access, they can read/write and delete files in this directory.
    2. They can do everything except delete files and folders
    We will have one Admin user on our staff (not me) who will use Filezilla and will have full access...

  • How can FTP users access my NAS system via FTP client?

    I recently purchased a 2 bay, 4TB Buffalo Link Station DUO in order to solve some FTP issues.  I have about 50 users outside my LAN that need to connect drop files on my NAS, however nobody seems able to connect via FTP client.  If they login using the Web Access Dynamic DNS address they can read and write via their web browser, but it's clunky and slow.
    My NAS system has been given the IP adress of 192.168.1.254 which seem to me that it's a local IP adress, not a public/static IP. Do I need to manually assign an IP adress to my NAS system in order fot users to log into that specific IP and go directly to the shared folders on the NAS system?
    Thanks in advance!

    Your NAS is getting that IP because it is behind your Router, which is the normal way to use it and as it should be.
    You can not ASSIGN a public IP you your NAS. Only your ISP can do that and usually that incures an extra cost for more than 1 Public IP address. Usually included with a Business account and most of the time only available with a Business account. ISP do not want home owners running FTP or Mail servers on a residential acounts.
    As noted you have to forward the noraml FTP port, port 21, in your Router to the IP of the NAS. Since you already have that port forwarded to your Mac, which I have no idea why you did that, you have to either change that port forwarding to the NAS IP or make the FTP server on the NAS respond to some other port and forward that on the router to the IP of the NAS. The to access the NAS FTP server you have to enter the piblic IP address of your router followed with a :and port #. XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:22 or whatever port # you assign to the FTP server on the NAS.

  • NAC - OOB - Virtual IP - users lost connecti

    Hi.
    So my problem is the follow:
    I have i my customer a NAC OOB - Virtual Ip Gateway.
    So, we have a many port profiles. Each Port profile witch its own authentication vlan and access vlan, for example:
    TI -  auth vlan 585 -  access vlan 85
    ENGINEERING - auth vlan 586 - access vlan 86
    And works very very fine.
    BUT
    There is a common location called PLATFORM (auth vlan 587, access vlan 87) where, to put port profile on each User interface on the switch after 20 minutes or less, the machines that are on this profile (VLANs 587, 87) lose network connectivity, without bounce.
    I checked and, some machines for no reason, are changed to vlan authentication without snmp Linkdown and even get stuck in with User certifield device list.
    Other machines remain in vlan access, but lose all connectivity to the network without ping gateway and any other device.
    Another vlan (for ex: vlan 1) that is not controlled by NAC continues to communicate normally.
    I tried to see any logs on the switch but could not see anything abnormal (yet).
    Other locations with others port profiles work normally.
    The uplinks on this switches and interfaces users dont have any CRC or errors.
    Could anyone help me? This is causing problems in my account.

    Hi,
    I understand then that the clients are not connecting through local or SSO mode, is that correct?
    I would suggest 3 things so far:
    1. Check the logs on the switches where the CAS's are connected, I had a similar problem where CAS would stop responding and the switches would complain about vlan mismatch or mac flapping, if you notice errors on the switches verify that you have:
    * Vlan mapping enabled correctly
    * Different native VLAN on the switch interface for trusted and untrusted CAS ethx.
    * The correct vlans configured on each port: for untrusted just the authentication (layer 2) vlans, for trusted interface the access vlan (20) and the management vlan.
    2. Enable the management vlan tag on the trusted interface of the CAS and use your CAS management vlan.
    3. On the CAM go to the Clean access server section, manage one of your CAS's, the first window will show the services currently running on the CAS, verify if the SSO service is running, if it's not running, verify the configuration. If it's not allowing you to enable it, verify the time settings on your devices, the AD user and all the other settings needed for this to work.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • Adding web/ftp users

    Hi all, I'm new to using the MAC as a web server having come from WHM/Cpanel environment.
    I have managed to basically set the server up/ start web/ftp services.
    this is a single Xserv/Mac OS X server 10.4.3
    I'm trying to figure out how to add a user to the default web site domain so I can login via ftp to upload website content.
    Could some explain what I need to enter for the user home so that it points to the website root in /Library/WebServer/Documents
    Thanks all.

    If you set your webserver/documents folder as a share point in workgroup manager, you should be able to go into server admin - ftp - settings - advanced. There will be a pop up menu called "authenticated users see" and you can pull it to FTP Root and share points or Home Directory and Share points. Just make sure to be careful about permissions and anonymous users, etc. You can then access it by going in to your browser and typing ftp.yourdomain.com without the http or www, and you will be prompted for a user name and password. If you are concerned about the security of ftp and you are using a mac to connect, you can always turn off ftp and connect to the server through afp (go menu - connect to server - your server's ip) and you will see the share points there. I hope this helps.
