alright i was watching the apple tutorial videos and it was saying stuff about needing an airport to get on the internet. my question is, if i have wireless internet at my house do i need to buy an airport. it sounded like i did. i thought that if i had wirless internet to the house from my internet provider my macbook would be able to find the connection and use it. plz help

Confused about wirless internet

Long story short as possible. My dad recently got wireless internet through sprint. Well they told him he had unlimited access but in the very fine print he found out that he was only allowed something like 5 gb of data. Anyway his bill has tripled because these idiots didn't inform him of any limitations.
Now a friend of mine claims that he can go and buy a wireless router and appropiate cables/cards, take it home and hook it up without having to pay a monthly fee to a provider. Just use internet explorer. She says her phone bill only went up a few dollars. I know little to nothing about wireless and i'm trying to help him. So if anyone can explain this in detail (fees, limitations, etc) I would be grateful. Thank you.

Your friend is probably getting free wireless in her home, what she's not getting for free is her internet. You pay the provider for internet, and then you have the option to make it wireless in your home for the cost of the parts. On the other hand, there are areas now that are offering free wireless internet, but it's only in highly populated cities.

Can't get AE clients to connect to internet-Plz help me!

I've had a home with router, wired mac's and pc's, and apple laptops for years with no problems. I removed old router and installed AE base station. I can connect to the Base Station via internet and wireless, but can't get past it to the net. I'm out of ideas.
My DSL modem from Sprint is a Prestige 660ME-61, with an address of 192.168.2.1. My "test" G5 desktop has an IP address of 192.168.1.23, subnet 255.255.255.0 and Router ip of 192.168.1.254 - as shown in system pref/network/built in ethernet configuration. This works fine with old pbx/router. I tried looking at my PBX/router settings and they use different terminology.
The AE auto setup didn't work, and I noticed it had set an ip address of 10.0.1.1 for the Base Station. I changed that to 192.168.1.x in the manual setup mode of DHCP. That generated starting and ending addresses of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200. On the Internet Connection tab, it shows IP address of 192.168.2.2, Router address of 192.168.2.254, and the DNS address from Sprint. With these paramters, I get something like "no connection to the internet" when I try to connect.
It seemed to me that I should set the router to be on the same 192.168.1.x addresses that DHCP is handing out, but when I try to change the Rounter Address to 192.168.1.254, I get a message saying that rounter address is not compatible with the lan address..
I'v worked with computers and networking for a long, long time, but I am at wits end - maybe it was the chemo! I would very much appreciate some very smart person telling me which simple setting to change to make it work! And yes, the DSL modem is plugged into the WAN port on the AE. Some of you might wonder how I'm sending this. The answer is I went back to my pre-AE configuration.

Did you happen to allow enough time for a power recycle when switching the router connected to your DSL modem?
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet Router, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Power-on the computer(s)

Were you definitely connected to the internet at the time? If you don't have iOS 5 on your iPhone then the only way to update it would be via iTunes, once updated to the latest version of iOS you'll be able to update your iPhone without connecting to iTunes "over-the-air".
Before updating however it goes without saying to Backup your iPhone, this should happen by default upon connecting your iPhone to iTunes.

Quick Question About My iPOD Plz Help!

Hey i have the 30gig ipod vid and it was working fine and still is. The thing is i sync the files from my pc to the ipod and everything is okay, but then once i listen or watch the podcasts and stuff and it shows it has been played (blue dot beside new unplayed file is gone) and then after I try to sync again and the files that have been played will not show on the ipod again until i go and click marked as unplayed again and then update and it will show there again.
My question is does anyone know how to fix this where the sync will not remove already watched or listened files when it is updateing? (Is it a setting i have to fix?) I kno it didnt do this before hopefully someone can help me please and thank you!

First of all let me tell you that I am fairly new to XML and XML-RPC and how to parse and manipulate it in java.
So please prepare yourself for some stupid questions and spare me for that;P.

The server in China is a .NET application.

Your server in Kuwait is written in Java.
You send the XML request to the .NET application.
The .NET application processes the request and sends you an XML response.

Not very helpful but I have the same issue. Plugging in and doing the update via. iTunes will probably work but I find that whole experience annoying (downloading apps not on the Mac, etc..)

I'm not trying to minimize your issues, but I have an iPhone 5S and find that I have not had these types of problems on AT&T. I'm wonding if something has gotten stuck in a loop that is continually trying to use data. If you make a good backup of your phone, try restoring it as new, and do not add anything to the phone right away. Let the device run like this for a little while and see what kind of usage you have. You report you phone is showing usage of 21GB. Did you rese this setting on the phone to begin at your billing period? The reason I ask this is some people believe this setting resets on its own with your billing period, it does not. This has to be manually reset by the user, so it might not be that accurate depending on the last time that you reset it.
If the phone seems to not use so much extra data during the period the device does not have extra apps on it, then try restoring from your backup and see what happens. If this increases your data usage quite fast again, then there is probably something corrupt in the backup that is causing this issue.
