I would like to know when was work flows concept introduced and whats the purpose. Wiil the concept of work flow concept persists for long term. Any replacment for work flows.

IIRC, Oracle Workflow was introduced in Oracle Applications release 10.7 (although there weren't many flows provided in those days). Standalone Workflow was available with the 8i database - since it used queues, 8.1.5 (Enterprise Edition) is probably the first really stable database that it would work with.
As for it's purpose, have a look at the Wikipedia entry for workflow, which gives some good overviews of workflow technology (rather than an Oracle specific view).
The concept of a workflow engine will be with us for a long time - however the technology within Oracle changed when Oracle bought Collaxa. Oracle Workflow has been removed from the 11g database (although there is a version available with Oracle Warehouse Builder), and will be replaced with the more expensive (rather that free!) BPEL product. BPEL will be the workflow engine of choice within Oracle Applications Fusion as well, but is still present in Release 12 of the eBusiness Suite.

Workflow Template and workflow tasks are part of SAP Business workflow.
A business workflow is an executable process embedded in SAP applications that you use to automate business processes.

Hi Srinivas,
Workflows can be used in SAP HR in almost all places and it depends upon client requirement.
It can be used in the following:
1. Leave Management
2. Time Management
3. Claims
4. Travel
5. PA30
Workflows are nothing but triggering the application to the level of approvers mapped in the system. It depends from each client and requirement, process, etc.

Integration
Integration of SAP R/3 Functions
SAP Business Workflow is incorporated at an integration level above the transaction level. The component uses the existing transactions and function modules. The functionality and operability of the existing transactions and function modules are neither changed nor restricted by the workflow control. SAP Business Workflow does not intervene in the programmed processes within a transaction.
The component SAP Business Workflow, as a cross-application workflow management system, hence separates the organizational aspects of the control logic from the application logic. Optimizing work flow in FCP on new iMac? (dropped frames)

Hello-
I've recently purchased a new iMac, first in about 6 years. I'm looking for some advice about optimizing my work flow in FCP. I am largely self-taught, using FCP for hobbyist/amateur video.
Until this new computer, I have been using FCP on other people's Macs (schools, arts institutions, etc), only resorting to my old Powerbook when absolutely necessary. So I have not had to worry about performance issues until now.
I am shooting on a Kodak Zi8 pocket cam in 1080p HD .MOV files, 1920x1080 H.264, AAC audio.
In my first attempts at editing the footage, I find that I am getting dropped frames on playback at every edit point - any time I cut between shots, add titles, etc.
(I also tried editing some much smaller, compressed files (QT 854x480, H.264, AAC audio) in the timeline and had the frame drop problem.)
Also, when I add titles, they do not preview render - I have to render them completely to be able to playback.
When I allow FCP to change the sequence settings to match the clip, I get the following:
1920 x 1080
Aspect: HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Pixel Aspect: Square
Field Dominance: Upper (Odd)
Editing Timebase: 29.97
In this instance I am editing footage that is stored on the local HD, but I have also tried editing footage from a USB 2.0 external drive, and got the same dropped frame problem.
...its a little frustrating to get these performance issues on this new computer, so I hope that someone here can help me resolve some of my problems. Hopefully this is a work flow issue, but if its a lack of hardware, well, shame on me for not looking into it enough.

Hi -
H.264 is a recording and delivery format, but as you have discovered, it is very difficult to edit. Its qualities of recording a high quality image in a small file size, which make it attractive for use in Flash based camcorders, makes it very difficult for FCP to work with. Attempting to work in H.264 makes FCP drop frames, require constant rendering, etc.
The best solution is to convert your footage to an edit friendly file format, such a ProRes LT or AIC. There will be minimal impact on the quality of the image. This conversion will result in files that are much larger than your original files, but will work easily in FCP.
You don't say if you have FCS or just FCP, but if you do have FCS then you can use Compressor to do the conversion.

    What are the human roles in the SAP XI Work flow in the organization and what are their responsibilities. Who will responsible to write the Java mapping coding or ABAP mapping coding or XSLT mapping coding.

In XI: It is separated in two parts
1) XI basis (Administration)
Activites are:
1) XI installation
2) Configuration activitie
3) Post installation checks
4) SLD configuration
5) Create Users,
6) Role assignments.
And many more
2) XI Implementation and development.
Under the development you have two parts Integration repository which is desing part which involves small amount of Java knowledge whenever your requirement is not fulfilled by standard SAP XI function.
and integration Configuration:
This is very simple stpes once your design is over.Based on your requirement you have to use the standard adapter provided by SAP for example if file is coming then u will go for File adapter,if IDOC is psoted to R3 then you go for IDOC adapter,communication with remote client u go for SOAP adapter.
XI Project lifecycle:
1) Blue printing phase (Design phase).
2) Build phase (Development)
3) Integration testing
4) Project go live
5) Support.
Now coming to ur question.
XI Developers role and responsibilities are:
     Analysis of the Functional Specifications which is received from Function people.
      Understanding the processes related to the third party non SAP and SAP systems.
     Raise issue log for the business requirement which is not understood from functional spec.
     Prepare Technical Specification Document,
     Do the development: now developer has to do the coding which either involved java,XSLT,abap mapping.
     Prepare the UTC
     Reviewing Interface Technical Specifications and Unit Test Document, Interface build and Unit Test, Self and peer review of the deliverables, develop Interface Object via Design and Configuration.
     Project golive and give support and do bug fixing,change request n all.

Work Flow- SAP Business Workflow
Purpose
SAP Business Workflow can be used to define business processes that are not yet mapped in the R/3 System. These may be simple release or approval procedures, or more complex business processes such as creating a material master and the associated coordination of the departments involved. SAP Business Workflow is particularly suitable for situations in which work processes have to be run through repeatedly, or situations in which the business process requires the involvement of a large number of agents in a specific sequence.
You can also use SAP Business Workflow to respond to errors and exceptions in other, existing business processes. You can start a workflow when predefined events occur, for example an event can be triggered if particular errors are found during an automatic check.
SAP provides several workflows that map predefined business processes. These workflows do not require much implementation. For an overview of these SAP workflows, refer to Workflow Scenarios in Applications.
Integration
SAP Business Workflow uses the existing transactions and functions of the R/3 System and does not change the functions. You can combine the existing functions of the R/3 System to form new business processes with SAP Business Workflow. The workflow system takes over control of the business processes. If you are already using SAP Organizational Management, you can use the organizational structure created there to have the relevant agents carry out the individual activities. It is possible to have an activity carried out by a position. This ensures that the respective occupiers of the position can carry out the individual activities during execution of the workflow. This means that personnel changes in your organization are taken into account immediately in the execution of a workflow.

SAP Business Workflow provides a number of tools for defining and analyzing workflows as well as for monitoring operation.
The Workflow Builder is for displaying and making changes to workflows. You can make small extensions directly to the original workflows supplied by SAP, such as carrying out your own agent assignments or changing deadline monitoring.
There are several Workflow Wizards to support you in the definition of workflows, with which you can create specific parts of a workflow. The Workflow Wizard Explorer gives you an overview of the existing Workflow Wizards.
In order to make the functions of the R/3 Systems available to a workflow, you use business objects, which you can define and analyze in the Business Object Builder. These business objects are made available to the workflow in reusable tasks. The Business Wizard Explorer gives you an overview of all existing tasks.
The end user receives information about the activities they are to carry out in their Business Workplace. This provides them with a central overview of all the activities that they are authorized to carry out. They can commence the activities from here.
Several tools are available to the workflow system administrator, with which they can control and analyze the current workflows. The workflow system administrator is notified of problems automatically by the system.
DATAFLOW-Data flow means flow of data from one module to another within a sap system.

SPRO>Quality Management>Envrionment>Central Functions>Activate Workflow
You get a pop-up screen, Click on "Activate SAP Business Workflow"
you get a screen "Task Customizing Overview"
For each module you have a workflows
click on Assign Agents you will find the number of Tasks for each activities or functions
Like Under Production Orders you will have "inform MRP Controller about trigger pt"
etc like wise you have to use these Tasks provided by SAP to your build or combine as per customers requiremnts with proper agent assignments

Work flow in iLife

Hey kids,
I have A BUNCH of video that I need to boil down in to multiple DVDs with multiple chapters per DVD (about 8 hours). Is there a description of a good work flow from iMove to iDVD described anywhere,....Do i need to export each "chapter" as a movie and then import them into iDVD in order to maintain a chapter structure?. If so what is the best way to do this,...HELP , PLEASE!!

That's a lot of video! In general, the workflow I prefer is doing editing in iMovie, quitting, then open iDVD and import the video. iDVD has 3 options for converting video into the correct format for DVDs, and you set this in Preferences (up to 60 min=Best Performance; up to 120 min=Best Quality; the Pro setting takes longer, but does a better job with the more highly compressed 2hr video). With so much video, it might make sense to divide your footage by 110 minute blocks (there needs to be room for a few other files so you can't fit a full 120 minutes of video on a single layer DVD).
That's a high level overview; Klaus' links will give you more details; the "Missing Manual" and other books will provide lots more detail; and the forum here is good for questions.
