Abs times out, but pacman works

I'm at work, behind a firewall and proxy. Pacman works fine since I configured teh gatweay setting in rc.conf, but "abs" times out when I try to run it. I successfully did a "pacman -S cvsup wget". Is there something else I need to do to get abs to work?
Or is there a place where I need to set the proxy for abs? I tried to do "man abs", and it gave me help on the absolute value function, lol.

abs is a wrapper script around cvsup. So, try the man page for cvsup. I have no experience, though, getting cvsup through a proxy. It's using port 5999, I think, and a non-proxy firewall can usually handle this protocol (at least mine can ;-) )

When I try to upload attachments bigger than about 800k Firefox times out but IE works ok

I have used Firefox (on a Dell PC Win XP) for years with no problems but over the last few months I have been unable to upload anything except the smallest attachments to Outlook webmail. Usually anything less than 800k will work but even then I get a time-out message ocassionally. I have stopped trying anything bigger. When I try IE it always works so it seems to be the browser. Also, I use Mailbigfile to sedn PDFs as big a 80mb with success. I need help or I will have to desert Firefox.

Could you please try testing this with Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the issue still appears? See here for instructions:

If the issue does not appear in Safe Mode then continue to follow the instructions to identify the setting or add-on that is causing the problem. You will disable them all and re-activate one by one, testing along the way, to find the culprit.
If the issue still appears in Safe Mode then I suggest trying a Firefox Reset:

This will return Firefox to its default settings. Your personal data (bookmarks, history etc) will be saved but you will have to reinstall your add-ons.

Connection time-out but then immediately after, no problem

For some reason, the first time I use pacman (after not having used it in a while), the connection times out, but when I Ctrl+C and then do the exact same thing, it starts working.
Any ideas why?

I'm using SSH to connect to the server where this problem is happening, indicating that the LAN connection works. Before invoking pacman I've tried pinging google.com, which works flawlessly.

I have this same problem, i though it was my internet (super slow) it would take 3 HOURS!! to download the update and then after all the waiting, it would say "network connection timed out" Ive restarted it and checked my settings over and over but it still says "timed out" wat should I do?!?

I have a PXI 1000B chassis connected to a SCXI 1001 via a PXI6031E MIO card. I have 6 1102c modules plugged into the SCXI chassis. Each module is connected to a BNC 2095 (where my field inputs come in)I have it setup to mux 192 channels into one A/D. I wrote a small program in LabWindows to get familiar with setting up the scan list. The function SCAN_Op times out but not consistently. I have included my code. Can you suggest anything?

I have Problem uploading photos to craigslist. It says it has a problem communicating with the server and times out. It works in explorer but not Firefox and I just recently downloaded the new version of firefox. Can you be of any help?

Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.

Connection times out (but only on Leopard)

I run an iMac (one year old) and connect to the web via Airport. I'm having consistent problems with the connection timing out after 2 or 3 minutes; it's really frustrating and is pretty constant. It's not an Airport problem because I can connect my old Dell quite solidly ( which I'm typing this one) and my iPod Touch without any problems. It started about three months ago
So it's only the iMac affected. Any ideas? I'm not a techie and I'm new to Macs

I'm getting these time-outs as well. Computer is fine for the first few minutes, then when I try to go to a new URL (Safari) it appears I'm not connected anymore. When I quit and relaunch Safari, it comes back up. At first I thought it was a router issue but now I don't think so, because when I ran Network Diagnostics, it said I'm connected.

New email settings causing time outs or not working

So they send me a notice to change my email settings as soon as possible in which I did as instructed. It ether just runs, hangs or times out. I hate to call these people and talk to "John" or "Jane" -sigh-. Any ideas?

Disregard I had some firewall issues.... solved!

HP Laserjet P3010 won't print. It find the printer, send the data but eventually times out. It work fine on Monday, today not at all.

I work in a small office that shares an HP Laserjet networked printer with Macs & PCs. Within the last few days, the printer has sporadically refused to print files from my Mac Pro and my boss's iMac (both running 10.7.5). I've tried removing/reinstalling the printer from Print & Scan (no joy) and verifying permissions (still nothing). I went to HPs site and they claim the drivers are included with the latest OS update. I'm tearing my hair out with this problem. Help!

Video options almost all grayed out -- but camera works

A number of quite important options are grayed out of my iChat, and I don't know why. For example, under Buddies, I can't select anything under "Send Instant Message". Most importantly, I can't select "Invite to video chat" or "Invite to one way video chat." Here's my setup.
I have a USB camera plugged in and working in iChat 4.0.5. When I say working, I mean that there is a little green video camera next to my name, and I can see myself (live) in the video pane when I select Video>Video preview. The camera is a Logitech Notebook Deluxe. It shows up in the System Profiler and, as I mentioned, it seems to work with iChat.
I tried the suggestions in this post, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9772013&#9772013, but it did not work.
Is there a certain provider (e.g., AIM, google) that does/doesn't work. I tried AIM and google and -- nothing.
Anyone know what's going on?

In Leopard and Earlier you have to set your International Preferences in System Preferences to the United States. Some people have said this works if you are not in the United States but you can only Contact US phones.

Macbook Headphone Jack no sound out but mic works problem Mavericks

Hi,
I currently was plugging my macbook Pro to a amplifier to listed music louder, It never worked. After that i Puted a Headphone and worked and unpluged it and plug the headphone again and it did not work anymore. But if i put my blackberry headphones the mic works perfect and on system preferences it says Headphone Port so the mb pro recognizes the headphone but is not able to exit the sound to the headphones. I formated the macbook pro but the problem persists. I'm trying to find a software solution because in my country Venezuela there is no apple store or Certified Tech Service so I'm on my own on this.

Sounds as though he may have activated VoiceOver. Settings>General>Accessibilty>VoiceOver.

Safari times out but Firefox does not

I am using my MacBook Pro on a windows network at the office. It works flawlessly with one exception. If I use Safari as my browser, in inevitably stops loading pages after a few minutes. For example, I can go to www.apple.com and it will load fine. When I click on "support" in then hangs up while trying to load the page. It does not give me an error message, it just continues to try loading the page. If I use Firefox, however, this behavior never happens and it works without problem.
I only have this problem while on my office network. If I use my Macbook on another network, Safari works flawlessly. In fact, this behavior at my office started about 6 months ago, and prior to that Safari worked OK.
So obviously I think the problem has something to do with the way my network is configured at the office. However, my IT people have no clue where to look because the problem is so bizarre.
Does anyone have any idea why Firefox would work but not Safari, on the same network??

I wonder if we can find a pattern in these sites that do not work. By opening the "activity" window in safari it tells us which components of the site are not loading.

Facebook.com does not even show up in the activity window....this would suggest to me that Safari is not able to find it via DNS.
Since Safari runs on the open source WebKit, I wonder if another WebKit browser would have the same problems, or if the problem is specific to something Safari is doing.
Any apple technicians care to join in the discussion please??

I have a Mac Book Pro, using OSX 10.6.8. The displays on any and all screens suddenly became larger and the files on the desktop screen became blurry. I don't know how to return to original appearance.

try a two finger drag on the trackpad holding the CONTROL key. You may be in a zoom mode.
Also check the settings in System Preferences>Displays>Display.

My Daugther went to a local Church fair and she had her iPod touch and it flew out but the screen didn't crack the ear jack is dent and the screen is popping out , But it works fine . Can the apple store change it or fix it?

They will just exchange it ($149 for latest 8G model) for a rebuilt one--they won't repair that. Make sure you back it up before you take it in.
