Absent iSight

hello,
i recently had my display replaced and after just a couple of days the iSight stopped working (not detected at all, actually). apps simply don't recognise there's one.
so on system profiler to try to locate it under 'usb' but there's none listed.
this is the isight included in the display panel on a macbook pro (3,3) purchased about a year ago.
is there anything i could do about this?
cheers.

  • Isight pic has blue bands - iChat problem?

    Hi ~
I recently set up a new external isight with my G4 desktop and 17" studio display. I have not yet tried to video conference; thus far I've only checked out the camera to be sure it works. I have no trouble getting an image within iChat 3.1.5, but the picture has blue vertical lines running through it. The lines are there both in bright room light and dim light. Beneath the lines, the image looks quite good.
I have tried all the obvious fixes: a different firewire port, different cable, etc. Didn't help.
I don't believe the camera's optics are at fault. I have Security Spy on the computer. If I control the camera through Security Spy, and set the camera's output to 640 x 480, the picture is clean with no blue lines. However, if I use Security Spy to set the camera's resolution to 320 x 240, the blue lines appear.
I know that isight is a VGA camera, so 640 x 480 is its native resolution. I think what may be happening is that somehow iChat is telling the camera to set its output at 320 x 240 instead of 640 x 480. I can't find any way to manually change the resolution of the camera from within iChat. (And I can't videoconference from within Security Spy.) According to Apple's description of iChat, it employs a new H.264 video codec, which "intelligently scales to available bandwidth and hardware for improved overall performance."
I fear my iChat is not being very intelligent at all, but is messing up what should be a lovely picture from a nice little camera!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    ~ Diane

Kinda looks like it is sending out a 320x240 signal. (Can't really be 160 x 120, can it???) The firmware supposedly was udpated to 1.0.3 the first time iChat launched with the camera plugged in. However, the updater log does mention something about an error:
    iSightUpdater was launched by iChat.

    2006-12-13 17:02:01 -0600: iSight Updater quitting...
I actually tried to reupdate with 1.0.3, but Tiger wouldn't let me.
Now here's a new piece of the puzzle. I downloaded a demo version of iglasses today. In fiddling with its settings, I discovered that I could eliminate the blue lines if I increase the color temperature and white balance so much that cool colors (esp. blue) are nearly absent. I also found that I could colorize the picture with every hue but blue. In the blue area, the picture just goes unsaturated.
So now I wonder if there's a problem with the way in which the camera measures white balance/temperature at the cool end of the spectrum.
Not sure how Security Spy gets around this, though...

  • Skype wakes when movement in front of iSight camera

    All,
I installed a new iMac 27. All works like charm but then I noticed something really odd:
My Skype is set to change my status to "Absent" after 10 minutes of inactivity.
When I come back and sit in front of my Mac or just walk by, it switches back to "Connected" without my touching keyboard or mouse! So it seems that my iSight camera, though it supposedly is turned off (no green light) is somehow on and detects movement.
I found no setting to change that in Skype or in any of the categories in System Settings.
Any thoughts? What bothers me most is to think that my Mac is monitoring my room without my knowing how or why, and with no possibility to turn it off.
    iMac 27", 3.5 Intel Core i7
    OS 10.9
    Skype 6.11

    Thx LowLuster.
I'm not concerned about shutting down Skype, but about my Mac watching me.
Meanwhile, I believe I found the explanation: Maverick uses the light detection sensor next to the iSight camera to reset idle time when it senses movement. Skype follows accordingly.
It's still bizarre (and we should be given the option to disable), but it makes sense:

I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight (iMac5,1) to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old system parts. I have zapped PRAM. • Trouble with built in iSight macbook C2D late 2006

I´ve resetted my smc on my macbook, nothing happens, I´ve the same problem, "there is no cam" photobooth answered, but my systemprofiler shows the builtin isight, with win xp on my bootcamp partition it works, but only win-like. Later I´ve made the pram-reset, always the same problem, it works only on windows xp, what should I do?
Installed Software: bootcamp 1.2beta, Adobe Premiere CS3beta, Soundbooth CS3beta, Device Central CS3beta, Bridge CS3, Photoshop CS, macromedia studio mx, Avid free DV, Blender 2.42, Adobe GoLive CS, toast 6.11 and some programs for videoconversion.
I´ve not installed: I-apps, live imovie, idvd, only itunes.
For chatting: meetro. My macbook was in january 07 at an Apple-Authorized Service Provider, cause the motherboard was damaged, I´ve got a new one, but the problem with the cam, began in june 07, after some softwareupdates from apple. (I think) I´m repairing my permissions once per week, but nothing happens. I´ve read in some german forums, I must make a new installation of my tiger and then the problems are away? Howlong?

Sorry your problem is not fixed.
Although it is unusual to need more than one hardware fix, I think you will need help from an Apple-Authorized Service Provider again.
However, if you want to try reinstalling your Mac OS as recommended in the other forum, my suggestions on how to do that are in this Reinstalling Mac OS X link. As explained in that linked page, how long the update takes will depend on which update method you choose.
As soon as you restart your Mac after the reinstall, repair permissions and apply the Combo Update. The Combo will update your MacBook to the latest version of Tiger in one step. Remember to repair permissions again as soon as you restart after applying the Combo Updater.
This post by Stewart Holmes suggests that taking out the battery and leaving your MacBook unplugged for a longer time than you tried previously might be worth a try:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1052278
My only remaining suggestion is that you contact Apple or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service. I have no other ideas.

  • Isight drivers for WIndows 7 - not working?

    Hi,
Have a new IMac and am trying to get Isight working in a Parallels Windows 7 VM environment.
Isight works fine in Mac OS (Skye, Oovoo, etc).
Tried to install the drivers from the Mac OS disk (appleisightinstaller.exe) and they appear to be installed okay.
BUT, while the device exists, I cant see any picture or when I click on settings get no settings to change. Additionally, the Isight led on the device never comes on.
Anyone got any ideas as to what I should do.
    I have tried:
    1. De-installing the driver and reinstalling
    2. Have edited the registry in Windows to delete all references
The reason I would like to get this working is I am trying to use Polycom PVX video conferencing software (I need it for work) and so my idea was to run it in a Parallels VM as its only available for Windows.
    Hope you can help
    Cheers

    Welcome to Discussions, Dave (dwinpenny)
I don't use Windows®, but here are a couple things to consider if you have not already done so and do not get better help here.
    (1) Does this help you? http://kb.parallels.com/5028
    (2) Consider XMeeting as a possible OSX alternative for connecting to your work's Polycom system:

    On this page
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS2472
iMovie '08: Built-in iSight camera not recognized
    it says:
    In Finder, navigate to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/
Select the file com.apple.mio.VDCAssistant.plist and delete.
    Restart your system.
You should now be able to use your iSight camera with iMovie.
However, in Yosemite, it only has this file name
    com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist
and I don't want to delete it as instructed without someone who knows telling me it won't hurt my newly installed and thus far working well OS 10.10.1, with iMovie 7.1.4 on my iMac 24 inch, Early 2008, 2.8 GHz Intel Dore 2 Duo, 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2  SDRAM.  It worked with Leopard, and I don't recall having to use the above mentioned support page.

Contact Apple. I believe you have a hardware issue there if it's not showing up in your System profiler.

  • Unable to record just audio with Mac Mini - no isight

I am trying to use Podcast Capture on a mac mini connected to a generic monitor (no isight) and it is unable to initialize the audio subsystem. I am assuming this has to do with it needing a video camera, but surely that isn't required to record an audio only podcast. I have a microphone plugged into the line in and it works successfully in Garageband. Please help!

Take a look at Soundflower, which will allow you to record audio from any source:

  • Can't capture video using iSight camera in QuickTime 7.4 (92)

OK, I see that there are plenty of "bugs" with Quicktime Version 7.4 (92), but I don't see the problem I am having, posted anywhere. Here goes...
I cannot capture video using my [Firewire] iSight camera on my CoreDuo MacMini. I definitely used to be able to do this. When I go to File>New Movie Recording, I get a back/blank Movie Recording window and that's it. I click on the Red/Record button and nothing happens. The timer doesn't even advance. Just sits there. When I try to stop the recording, I get the following message:
*"Recording failed because no data was received.*
*Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing."*
I can still capture audio, although had some problems and had to "downgrade" to version 7.3.x and subsequently reinstalled 7.4. Now the audio works but still no video.
    A few things:
    1. YES, the iSight camera works - I can use it in iMovie, iChat, Photobooth, etc. - for both video and audio.
    2. As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video.
    3. I re-installed Version 7.4 and the audio problems cleared up, but again, still unable to capture video.
    3. All software updates installed.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

"As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video."
See QuickTimeKirk’s posting in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1357579&tstart=0
    Try the following:
    Trash com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    It's located in your account:
    HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
Delete the file, restart (a new .plist will be created) and quicktime hopefully will work again w/o doing an Archive & Install.
+If you want to do an A&I:+
Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 Scroll down to "Archive and Install”
IMPORTANT: Maker sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I?
    Good luck!

  • How do I use an iSight iMac to send video messages?

I love the computer, but Knowledge base says the built in iSight won't work with iMovie HD to capture video.
Is there another way I can make and send video emails or messages that can be emailed using an iSight iMac?

"Is there another way I can make and send video emails or messages that can be emailed using an iSight iMac?"
iVisit supports the 17/20" iMac with built-in camera (I won't call it an iSight as it's not Firewire and has lower resolution), you can record yourself (video, audio, text, url's, desktops and files) and send via email

I've just bought two iSight cameras, and found nothing in the accessory kit with them that would allow me to attach the camera to my Apple Cinema Display. This is because the back of the Cinema Display is beveled rather than flat, so the flat base of the accessories won't set firmly.

  • How do I use my isight camera live?

I have a 27 inch Imac. How do I use my Isight camera as a web cam? I have flashplayer 10, but it still won't work. Help?

Software always operates webcams, so you need to find software applications that does what you want.
Use your Mac's  > App Store... menu command to search for "webcam"
    (without quotation marks).
You can also search for other terms like "video chat",  "video conferencing",  "video surveillance", etc.
If you need other functions, some of the older apps in the list in this link are also still available:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
BTW, Flash 10 is out of date for OS X 10.7.2.
      • You can find the latest Flash version that works with you system using this page:
          http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
If you update, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then follow Adobe's instructions here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90893.html
Be sure to uninstall your current Flash player before installing the new one.
Repair permissions again immediately following installation of the updated Flash player.
      • Be aware that the current Flash Player Preferences can  be configured in your Lion Mac's  > System Preferences...    These settings may be blocking Flash on a system-wide basis.
      •  Individual Flash settings are still configured in the same way as older versions:

I don't think that you can do it with older MacBook's which have iSight cameras on them, the redeem by camera lists requirements as :

I think that you will need to manually enter the card's code
