Absolute best, fastest graphic for MDD dual 1.25

Hey whats the best graphics card that will work with my mdd dual 1.25 firewire 800?
I read the geforce 8600 ultra would work but everyone selling them states its for a G5 only?
Any way i want a 256mb card, japamac i know you have some suggestions...
Thanks

Hi-
The Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra, unfortunately for you, is not compatible with the MDD or FW800 machine.
There is a peculiarity with the MDD that makes the 6800 incompatible.
So, to answer your question, the very best card for your MDD is either a Geforce 7800 GS or a Radeon X800XT.
Unless the Radeon X800 is a FireGL model, all flashed Radeon cards only output analog.
The FireGL X800 outputs digital through both DVI ports.

  • Recommendations? USB 2.0 & Firewire PCI card for MDD Dual Boot G4 (1.25 Ghz

Can anyone recommend a good USB 2.0 and Firewire combo PCI card? (at least 3 USB 2.0 ports and 2 FW) for my G4 MDD Dual Boot- 1.25 Ghz)?
I have an Orangelink+ Micro USB 2.0/FW PCI card from the days of OS 9- that's supposed to be USB 2.0 under OS X, but isn't (it shows up as max 12/mbps in System Profiler). I'd like to get an external Hard Drive and most of them are USB 2.0 now.
    Another question:
Under system profiler, it shows that I have one USB 2.0 port. I'm assuming it's an internal port, because all of the external ports show transfer rates of 12mbps. Is this a correct assumption?
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Absolute best AD converter for Logic

Ok this is going to likely start a firestorm, I'm not doing it on purpose.
I'm looking to get rid of the MOTU, take it out of the signal chain completely. This is an option I'm considering above and beyond the update of the processors in it. I don't use the mic pres in it because the ISA sounds so much better, the MOTU just sounds flat and plain blehhhh...
Anyway, I am wondering what you would consider to be the best hands down AD converter which would plug into the mac via firewire to get data to and from Logic.
I don't have a tower, so using an embedded pci card is not going to happen. Perhaps that's what I need to get first before really doing this connection right?
I know the Ensemble exists, and it is an option, but I don't really care for all the mic pres in it, just want something that can handle signal flow, so that at the other end of the signal I can hook it up to a patch bay (I'm assuming via AES connection) with the ISA's and other equipment I'm slowly going to get.
thanks for you time, I'm listening.

Recommendation taken to heart, all recommendations have, and I am looking to see how I can manage to test and listen to the hardware that I am considering when the end of the list comes up. One way is to go find recording studios in my area with this hardware, pay for 1 hour in the studio if I must (or even schmooze the dude or lady on the phone to let me just come in to listen) But it's gonna be hard to judge anything if I don't bring in something to record myself and go back home to listen to it. I think that would be the best way to test. Rent studio for 1 hour, go in with my guitar and mic, ask them to hook it up, record, take files, go home to listen and AB on a specific system. That's gonna prove to be hard to do I think. Maybe not. Going to a local dealer, regardless of how descent they are, I'm not going to have an environment conducive to recording a guitar piece and listening to it I think. (Any other suggestions welcome)
That said, this is a project in motion. My plan is to grow my studio over the space of 2 years and get more and more people to come over. I would have no objection getting an 800 now and later supplementing/replacing it with other converters. Throwing the motu out to pasture is priority one The difference between 3000 for the Rosetta and 6500 for the x16's is quite a bit. The question there is if this 'quite a bit' is twice the price, and if this 'quite a bit' si worth the price for the people that I am catering to when I first start. There is a point of diminishing returns I have to keep in mind.
If I was going to climb to 6500 I would flat out get the Lavry's no question. Yeah I would get less in/outs, but the sound here is what we're after, and the studio right now is geared towards vocals and acoustic guitar/bass recording, so no drums and big stuff like that yet, and need for a high number of inputs (by high I mean 16+).

  • What is the absolute best quality xport for a dvd?

I want to export the best quality Movie. Standard definition, 60 minute long movie. Should I go through Compressor, or would a simple FCS-2 Quicktime Xport due, if so then what settings should I put it at. When I bring it into DVD Studio Pro, How do I make it Burn the Best. I'm Just Curious, I usually do a standard quicktime export and I want to make sure I'm not if I can do anything to improve. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Cinema. There's a ton of people on here with lots of good advice and experience, so read frequently and if you have any questions do a quick search before posting. You'll probably find the answers.
As far as best export out of FCP, the best is going to be File>Export>Quicktime Movie. This will export your project with the settings your timeline is set to. Any other option is going to compress the project somehow and you'll lose quality.
Compressor and DSP I'm still learning myself, so do some reading on the forum and in the manual (always a good place to look) and see what you can find.
Hope this sets you on the right track.

  • Best Video Card for my MDD Dual 1.25 and Video Editing?

I know that this has been discussed several times before. I just never saw any real answers. I was planning to a little more intensive video editing so I got the Motion 2.1 Trial. Well, doens't allow me to install saying that my video card doesn't meet the specs. I'm confused, I read the requirements and read me files and my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro seems to meet the basic requirements. However, the About this Mac says that it doens't support Core Image.
I guess my question is what would be my best and least expensive video card upgrade? Or is mine set up incorrectly or something? I've read elsewhere that this card should work. I'm just a little confused why it doesn't support Core Image....I may go all the way to Final Cut...Will this card work with that application?
    Any info would be great.
    Thanks.
    Robert

Thanks and sorry for the confusion...I just realized
that mine is only a 64mb card. It's the stock that
came originally in the MDD dual 1.25 I believe. I
had no idea that the same model card can have
different amounts of memory. It still says that it's
the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro...just 64mb and no core image
    support
It sounds like you may be mistaken and have an Apple OEM ATI RADEON 9000 Pro. That had 64MB, was stock with the MDD, and does not support core image.
There was also an Apple OEM ATI RADEON 9700 Pro with 128MB available as a BTO option with the MDD Dual 1.42GHz. Sometimes they pop up on eBay, although they are sought-after because they support core image and have both an ACD and DVI connection allowing for two digitally-connected LCD flat-panel monitors.
To my knowledge there have only been 128MB and 256MB versions of the ATI RADEON 9800 Pro Mac Edition.

  • Extra cooling needed for G4 MDD Dual 1.25 w/Radeon 9800?

I'm juggling graphics cards in my G4s. Some months back, I received a G4 MDD Dual 1.25 with a Radeon 9000. I migrated all my stuff from my G4 Digital Audio over to that, including my GeForce 4Ti card, and after some downloading of drivers, I was able to get the G4 DA running with the 9000.
A short time ago, I recieved a G4 MDD Dual 1.0 Ghz with a Radeon 9800 Pro 128M card (that's what the label says, anyway...). Two things were a little different, and they are what prompt my question. First, one of the PCI slot "covers" had been removed. This could simply be that the preior owner removed a card they needed for something else, of course. And second, there was rather a lot of foam (like for chair cushions) stuffed in places. I'm thinking that was to quiet the machine down.
So anyway, if I move the 9800 into my dual 1.25, will I need to "help" the cooling in any way? I'm thinking not, but since I've never dealt with these cards before, then perhaps there is common knowledge out there I'm unaware of.
Then, I'll have a G4/DA with 1/2Ghz Sonett processor & GeForce 4Ti, and a G4 MDD Dual 1.0 Ghz with Radeon 9000 to move on to new owners...

The Radeon 9800 is a warm card, but it isn't so terrible that the MDD can't use one.
The most important step for keeping the DP MDD cool is to enable Nap mode using CHUD:
    567DFEE3-A0A8-4602-9722-FCFCD76D8837.html
Another important task is to replace the thermal compound on the Radeon 9800.
The cards are all older than the thermal compound was meant to last.

    and
    C874D84E-96DD-4DFF-9566-7C66BE065BB5.html
    Use Arctic Cooling MX-4.
Also use it on the processors to get additional cooling benefits.
Use of Nap mode and replacement of the thermal compound should be all that is required to avoid heat issues.
The following are all additional cooling ideas to consider.
The mention of a PCI cooler is a good one. Placed along side the Radeon, it can help to rid the case of hot air produced by the graphics card.
This one is good help with minimum noise:
    http://www.xoxide.com/thermaltake-cyclo-blue-slotcooler.html
The Radeon 9800 has a minimalist fan and heatsink.
The aluminum heatsink doesn't disipate heat as fast as copper, and the fans tend to bake out and fail.
Replacement with a third party cooler is a good idea, but the design of the MDD makes that difficult.
This little Vantec cooler is a good option for the 9800 in a MDD which has the memory slots filled:
    http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/view_detail/95
If the memory slots have two 1 GB DIMMs installed in the two slots furthest from the graphics card, then this cooler is fine:

what is the best osx upgrade for a G5 2gig dual core for running music software please

That box definitely needs an additional graphics card to run Aperture. I seem to remember the Nvidia 8800 GT as the one to get (~$60 at Amazon) but you need to verify that it will work in that old G5 because my recall could be faulty.

  • P/N for Install discs, G4 MDD, Dual 867

Does anyone know the Apple part numbers for the original discs that came with a Power Mac G4 MDD, Dual 867Mhz? or where to get them?
After reading through the postings here I gather they are a MUST have to be able to boot OS9.
If anyone knows of another way please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Hi, Don and Jeff. I made a list a while back that was primarily focused on the part numbers for all the retail (universal) installer CDs. I do have some model-specific discs' part numbers, but not the one for the disc you need, Jeff. Calling Apple may be the best idea. If they're out of that disc and have no record of what its number is (very unlikely, I suspect), try reposting in the PowerMac G4 forums and seeing whether someone who has the same model can supply the number for the disc. Good luck!

  • I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Best Adobe product for editing PDF, replacing English text with Thai without altering/recompressing images, graphics etc.?

I have an English language PDF, a medical device brochure, the content of which has already been translated into Thai (in Word). I want to replace the original English in the PDF with the Thai translation easily without altering any other aspect of the brochure, like graphics, images, margins etc. (No doubt I'll have to tweak line height, font sizes and paragraph lengths a little.) I'm unsure of what would be the best Adobe product for this purpose, e.g. Illustrator, InDesign or Acrobat (or something else), that would allow me simply to open the PDF, replace the English with Thai in an attractive Thai font (to be embedded), make minor layout tweaks, then save without any compression so the quality and colours of the original photos, artwork, and graphical elements are preserved. I've heard Office 2013 allows direct editing of a PDF but I'm not sure if it converts, alters or compresses PDF graphics in some way when first opening the file. Could anyone with relevant experience please advise? Thanks in advance.

Adobe's only offering here is Adobe Acrobat. However, I must say something. I have heard from many people who sought to translate a PDF in this way. NONE SUCCEEDED. PDF is not suitable for this purpose. Obtain the original, this should be part of your contract for translation. If this is impossible, expect to remake the document; Word is probably unsuitable for a brochure of this type, maybe InDesign.

  • The best way to implement graphics for a monopoly game

    Hello,
I am implementing the graphics for a simple Monopoly game. I am currently creating a subclass of Canvas for drawing the board but when I repaint the canvas multiple times, you can clearly see the canvas repaint (a white area quickly flashs up and disappears).
What would be the best way to do the pieces moving? I thought of using the Graphic Layers Framework but I couldn't install it correctly and I would have to install it on every machine I run the game on.
    Thanks very much,
    Gary

Without trying to patronise, I assume you are using Double Buffering?
If not, that is what you need to do - draw the board offscreen, and once all the drawing operations have been completed, display this (fully drawn) image.

  • Best strategy for buring dual layer DVD

I've got a project that won't fit on a single layer DVD, so I've got it set up for dual layer and "best quality" which results in a 7.38GB disk image.  However, iDVD 8 warned me when burning the disk images that some utilities may not be able to burn a reliable dual layer disk copy and to use iDVD instead, does this include Disk Utility?
I always use Disk Utility to make copies, iDVD took almost 7 hours to burn the disk image, I can't afford to wait that long for each copy.  So what's the best strategy for burning dual layer DVDs?

subsequent copies burn in far less time immediately after the first provide you don't quit iDvd
If you know ahead of time you'll need more than a few copies, I'd recommend burning from a disc image to the desktop and reducing the burn speed (4x or lower) I prefer to use Roxio Toast myself. But others have had success with Apple's Disc Utilities as well.

  • Absolute Best Strategy for Cropping

What's the absolute best strategy for high precision cropping when time is not an issue and and want "perfect" quality?
What's the absolute best strategy for low precision cropping when time is an issue and standards are still high?
There's gotta be different strategies for doing this, and I was curious if we could choose a winner.
    Thanks,

Heh, Marian, that about sums it up.
In all seriousness...  How does "precision" connect with "cropping"?  I've always thought of "cropping" as most based on an artistic judgment, not something done for precision.  Perhaps you could describe your photography and what you expect from your workflow?
Are you cropping photos of documents?  People?  Stars, nebulae, and galaxies?
Is this "precision" you speak of an attempt to express "minimal loss of pixel data"?  If that's the case, get the most powerful computer you can and always work at upsampled resolutions.  And don't resample during cropping.
One last comment:  Consider employing the crop tool in the Camera Raw dialog.  This stores metadata telling future conversions how to crop the image, but the original raw data is still all intact.  Note that you can open a whole set of images in Camera Raw, do exposure and cropping changes, and click [Done] to save that metadata.
