Absolute links

I'm loading certain pages from my site to a third party vendor's site as html templates which visitors will access via the c-name.
They require absolute links throughout.
a) is there a preference or hack that makes all my links absolute in MUSE
b) is there an easy way to do this globally instead of find and replace?
thanks!

Hi Christopher,
At this stage this is not possible to force muse to generate absolute links. I will recommend that you use some script on-load that changes all the links to the absolute paths in stead of manual find and replace.

I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.

  • Converting absolute links to relative links

Using RH 7 HTML our corp wants to have help files able to function as "standalone" files on local PC's without network or server for business continuity. Presently most files have 150 or less topics and are published to a server. External files are in sub folders within the folder where the published file is located. Links to external attachments (.doc, .xls, .pdf, etc.) are absolute links and need to be changed to relative. An example existing link would be: HTTP://server.com/help/attachments/fname/sample.doc.  Help is the foler where tje published file is located and Attachments is the folder where the external files to be linked are located. When link is changed to: ../Attachments/  some links work and some don't. I discovered that some links require: ../../Attachments/ to function correctly. It appears that links that are not in the root path of the project manager require additional ../'s. I am trying to find out how RH7 reads the links and how to back out of a directory and when. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The easiest, and most efficient, way is to replicate the folder environment onto your local machine (all folders and files exactly as they will appear in the destination area), and let RH do the heavy lifting.
Therefore, to link to anything outside the current RH project, the method is:
Select Link to: File in the Hyperlink dialog.
When you select your link destination from the Select File dialog and click Open, the Link to: field initially displays the absolute path.
    Click OK.
Now, double click the link to reopen the Hyperlink dialog; RH has magically transformed the link into a relative path.
(You'll get an info message about linking to an external file...when you initially create the link and every time you open it...just ignore it.)
We use this method in a 42-project merged project, and it's never failed us. The only time that your links will break is when you copy or move a file to another location. Since the relative paths are no longer valid, RH will automatically assign the links to within the current topic; you'll need to re-assign the link manually.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Absolute links on hml page in local directory not working

All the absolute links on my html pages (which are on my hardrive) are being treated as local links and are therefore not working - i.e. Firefox is adding the local file path before the url. For example, the original link is: http://www.insidehousing.co.uk/legal/criminal-conviction-for-illegally-subletting-tenant/6518844.article
But Firefox is adding the directory path so the url string becomes: /www.insidehousing.co.uk/legal/criminal-conviction-for-illegally-subletting-tenant/6518844.article%E2%80%9D
It is also being appended with: %E2%80%9D (which, when tested from a Word page, leads to site but generates page not found error).
For testing purposes, is there any way I can reconfigure Firefox to parse my links as absolute?
    Many thanks

Thanks, both. I have carried out cor-el's suggestion of replacing the smart quotes with dumb quotes, then tried viewing link on file again using different encoading, including UTF-16 - same result as before.
Below I've set the HTML of the whole page, as per yalam96's request (it includes cor-el's suggested fix to the "prosecute" link):
<pre><nowiki><h3>Who do you need to inform (in the UK)?</h3>
<p>If you have a mortgage, you will need to inform your provider (with most lenders this shouldn't be an issue – you do not need “consent to let” as you would if you were letting out the whole property) but you do still need to inform them; why? This is partly for the protection of your lodger, if you should default on the mortgage or die, but mostly for your own protection – if the property was destroyed or badly damaged because of the negligence of your lodger.</p>
<p>If own your property and it's leasehold, check the lease – you may need permission from the freeholder.</p>
<p>If you rent your property, you will need to firstly check with your landlord (this applies whether you rent privately or from a public landlord – Local Authority or Housing Association), and get their permission in writing, just as you would with a mortgage provider. Incidently, in the UK, a public landlord is only likely to object to the let if moving a lodger in would mean your home becomes over crowded (e.g. you have a two bed flat and your children would have to share your bedroom). They will also object – they might even <a href=&#x201d;http://www.insidehousing.co.uk/legal/criminal-conviction-for-illegally-subletting-tenant/6518844.article&#x22;>prosecute</a> - if you move out and let the whole property to the “lodger” (who wouldn't be a lodger in that case, but a full tenant, with full tenant's rights).</p>
<p>You may also need to cancel any existing residential home insurance and take out <a href=”http://www.landlordinsurance.biz/landlord-insurance-guides/landlord-insurance-faq/”>landlord insurance</a>. A few residential policies will, however, allow lodgers. Landlord insurance will not cover the lodger's possessions, they will need to get their own insurance, known as Tenant Insurance – policies can be compared on sites such as <a href=”http://www.confused.com/campaign/home-insurance/tenants-content-insurance?MediaCode=1054&kw=lodger+contents+insurance+broad&gclid=CPbbn9-Nj7MCFanItAod3GAAog”>confused.com</a></p>
<p>If you get a single occupier's discount on your council tax, you will need to inform your local authority, unless your lodger is <a href=”https://www.gov.uk/council-tax/council-tax-exemptions”>exempt</a> from paying council tax (e.g. they're a university student).</p>
<p>NB People claiming Jobseeker's Allowance and most other benefit claimants are <b>not</b> exempt – they are, however, usually entitled to Council Tax Benefit to help with some or all the cost of their council tax.</p>
<p>If you're letting on a Monday – Friday basis (to someone who only needs a week night let), this person would not normally pay council tax at your property, as they already pay against their main (family) home. However, if for whatever reason you and your Monday – Friday lodger decided that they would use your address as their main home, they would then become liable to pay council tax at your address and you would lose any single occupier's discount.</p>
<p>If you claim any kind of means tested benefit (such as job seeker's allowance, housing benefit or council tax benefit) as benefit rules currently stand (January 2013) your rental income will affect this. <b>Contribution</b> based Job Seeker's allowance (JSA(C)) will be affected if your weekly rental income exceeds £50. If you're on income based jobseeker's allowance (JSA(I)), it's very likely to be affected; however, to what extent will depend on your rental earnings and circumstances and a DWP adjudicator will decide this.</p>
<p>However, from October 2013, when Universal Credit takes effect in the UK, <a href=”http://www.insidehousing.co.uk/tenancies/lodger-rules-to-ease-impact-of-bedroom-tax/6522846.article?MsgId=57059”>a <b>public housing</b> tenant's income from renting a room will no longer affect their benefit entitlement.</a></p></nowiki></pre>

  • Dreamweaver CS3: Absolute links

Is there a way in Dreamweaver to change all relative links to absolute links site wide? (besides manually typing ../ all over the place)
    Thank you!

    The old site was: http://mysite.com/index_files/Page324.htm
    The new site is: http://mysite.com/index.html
When I use an hcaccess file to redirect from any of the old links ( with a 404 error)  to the new files set-up the browsers can't find the new images and css files unless I add "../" to the paths.
Does that make sense? I would love to hear a better solution!
I'm a little confused.  Are all of the new files in the latter location?  And are you saying when you have a line in the htaccess file that redirects from Page324.htm to http://www.mysite.com/index.html, the page is not able to find any of the images/css?  And - why are you redirecting with a 404 - shouldn't it be a 301?

  • Absolute linking of .as instead of relatively linking

    hi,
the project im working on is all database driven, there are no html files and all coding that is created is made by php then stored within a db to be called later on. now because of this i can't use relative links at all with anything i.e. images, videos and swf files.
so.....i am using swfobject to link to a swf file using absolute linking as shown in the coding below. but what i need to do now is link an .as file in my swf using absolute linking so i can call some arrays from the file.i have doubled checked to make sure my vars can be passed by local testing and it works but now i need it as absolute....is this possible?

i can understand that but i am not making this so it picks different .as files during run-time.
i have one .as that is set called gallery.as this is created by my php coding which creates the flash vars and then saves the .as file in the same directory as my swf file.
the swf file is set to include gallery.as so that there is no need to try and choose different files.
but as this is all run without the use of html pages because of the nature of the site everything is linked using absolute paths, i just need to get flash to do the same thing.
please find my attached zip file with all my current files so you can see what i have actually done.....if you open up the fla and preview it should load my images

  • Absolute links - help - am going NUTS!

This is crazy and is probably really simple but I have been going round in circles allday....
I am trying to hyperlink to an external web site.
I set up the hyperlink with the absolute address however when I publish the site it appears as a link to my actual site then to the external site - which obviously doesn't work.  The thing that is really bugging me is that some of my links work perfectly well and some as I have just mentioned.
I cannot begin to understand why this is?
    Any help much appreciated!
    Thanks

    Yes I did.
The most frustrating page is actuallym y links page. All links work apart from one?  AND, when I test my page in the browser it all works fine - just when it's publised does it go pear chaped?

  • Absolute link issue

I'm building an application that has numerous folders with
the same element in each folder. i.e. header.jpg. The elements
change from folder to folder, but their position in the folder is
the same, so /images/header.jpg is consistent throughout.
I'm building a site using dreamweaver templates, and want it
to print precisely that line, but whenever I build a template, it
creates a relative link. Is there a way to force dreamweaver to
    leave that link alone?
    Thanks,

    <img src="@@('whatever.jpg')@@"....
That link will never be managed by DW.

  • Absolute image links in Contribute/Dreamweaver

Can anyone tell me how to force Contribute to make all the
    image links absolute (i.e.
    http://www.adobe.com/images/sampleimage.jpg)
    in Dreamweaver.
I want to send out html emails and I spec out absolute links
in Dreamweaver but when I edit the html document in Contribute, the
    links get changed to relative.
HTML emails need absolute paths. I've read that Contribute
fixed this in CS3 but I just bought Contribute the other day and my
    links keep switching back.
    HELP!?!?!?!
    Thanks in advance!
    Rodney

How will you send the emails? Will you use an email-client on
    the client-side or create a server-side solution?
    Server-side:
I solved this Contribute problem by using PHP and
    str_replace.
    $strMessageStrip = $_POST['message'];
    $strMessageStrip2 = str_replace("../", "
    http://www.yourdomain.com/",
    $strMessageStrip);
    $strMessageStrip3 = str_replace("../images/", "
    http://www.yourdomain.com/images/",
    $strMessageStrip2);
    etc...
    Client-side:
The only solution I can think of is creating Editable regions
for the text and use default image positions outside the editable
regions and let your client change the images by putting new images
on the server with the same name as the old ones.

  • Central Administration links point to wrong server

I have 4 machines in my farm. I used Central Administration - Server - Services on Server to change the location where the Central Administration service runs to a different machine. Now, even though the Central Admin website is running on the new box, the
links in the Health list all point to the old CA server. I can manually open up each list item and ask it to 'Reanalyze' but, once it is done, the links still point to the old server.
What am I missing? Is there a Timer job or Workflow that is supposed to change something. (I am surprised this is using absolute links. Shouldn't SP be putting relative links onto the list?)

Thanks for your reply but unless you have actually done this and seen that the health reports suddenly have a working URL for each of multiple machines then I'm not sure PSConfig is the answer. I was able to turn off the CA service and unprovision one of
the instances with PowerShell. So, the site is working but just not the health links.
This looks like a bug to me. Even if I go through the PSConfig process and add CA to a new server, now how will it know which URL to put into the Health list items? I just really don't want to run PSConfig on a production server unless I really, really have
to. It does more than I want it to.
Can anyone else confirm whether the Health links are broken on some CA machines and not others?

  • How to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both?

See details on buggy DW image link behavior, below. My question is:
    1) how to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both? Or…
    2) how to reliably automate the change of several hundred legacy root-relative links of the form
    /images/image.jpg  to document-relative?
    That is, to
    ../images/image.jpg or
    ../../images/image.jpg or
../../../images/image.jpg etc…depending on where the directory is.
The old format (/images/image.jpg ) used to work fine in my previous DW 8 configuration but appear grey in DW after “upgrading” to DW cs5.5 mac. (they look fine on the server, but it’s hard to edit image-heavy pages locally when they are all grey).
I tried changing the files to how DW creates root relative links now:
/public_html/images/image.jpg, which is a very easy, attractive root flow since there’s a one-to-one mapping. These look great in DW but are broken on the server!
I looked at the “advanced” site setup, and it looked like it might be possible to nuke the /public_html/ part of my server info…but it also looked like there was the potential for doing damage changing these settings, which are automatically generated from our server connection settings, which seem to work.
The “links relative to document/ site root” toggle…does that change how DW interprets existing links, or just change the default when you are adding a link?  I have made 80% of the file links document relative…before wondering if root-relative isn’t better?
It sure seems less ambiguous for all those images if theres a way to make root relative work for DW design view, DW link check, and server.
Summary of buggy behavior: (see test with images here)
    "old style" site root link
          /images/img_book/WScover120x150_NEW.jpg
Design veiw in DW: broken (grey w/ broken icon)
Link check in DW: "external link" (i.e., uncheckable, + file could appear orphaned)

    Similar discussion on "/"

    Hello again Jon!
    Thanks for jumping on this.
All clear and understood about where publc_html is etc.
No contemplation of nuking the actual public_html directory on the server, just the "/public_html" text string at the start of the DW-generated links.
"/public_html" is automatically added to the front of the link in DW if I create the link with any of the GUI tools, if I have "site root relative" selected. And ""/public_html" ends up in the code, and gets uploaded that way to the server, where it (obviously) doesn't work.
Doesn't sound like it is supposed to work this way. Also, what seems to be the usual root relative format (/images/image.jpg) shows as a broken link in the GUI and an external link in the DW link check. All this togther makes me thinkI have some obscure setting incorrect?
The setting that caught my eye is manage sites/ site setup/ advance settings/ local info/ web url,  which is automatically set to http://www.oasisdesign.net/public_html/
it gives an option to change it but it makes every effort to make this NOT look like something users should mess with:
Having gone through the more careful thought process during this post, I'm ready to do the experiment of changing the remote server web URL (why is it wrong by default?)...think I'll eat dinner first so there's 45 min to avert disaster if anyone knows this to be a bad idea!
    Art
PS--don't  have a local testing server...don't think this will solve the GUI broken link/ link shows as external problems.
Is there an easy, automated way to change links sitewide from document to root relative?

  • Problems with Robohelp links

    Hi There
I am using Robohelp HTML 6 and I want my links to be relative links not absolute links. Any ideas? All the links I try to do go back to my C drive instead of to another page within the Help.
    Thanks

You are talking about links between topics, correct?
    How are you creating them?
One method is to highlight the text in a topic and then in Project Manager you drag the target link to that text.

  • Inserting link to a file

I'd like to have a word in the Javadoc footer be a hyperlink that opens a HTML file. However, my problem is to with relative/absolute links. I can't make this an absolute link since I don't know where the user will unpackage the Javadoc files to. Neither can I make it relative, since the HTML file could be in the same or different directory to the file containing the hyperlink (since the Javadocs are in a hierarchy of directories). Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

The solution is to use {@docRoot}, which is a variable that represents the root of the api docs.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/tooldocs/win32/javadoc.html#{@docRoot}
If you're using 1.4.0, unfortunately, there is a bug in {@docRoot} when moving up one directory:
    {@docRoot}/..
    This bug is described at:

  • Please Help!! Links to other PDF documents in my PDF document open in Adobe Acrobat Professional but NOT Adobe Reader XI

    Hi everyone,
I really hope someone can help me with this problem. I work for a software company and we have a release coming up. Every release requires me to create a 'menu' which is what users see when they insert the release CD. I create this menu in Adobe Acrobat Professional, and add links to all the PDF manuals we have for our products. When I open the Menu in Acrobat Professional, all links open fine. When just attempting to open the links using the default Adobe Reader (which i'm guessing most of our customers will use), nothing happens, not even an error is generated. I'm ensuring I link to the documents that reside in the same folder on my directory as the menu. Is this something to do with relative/absolute links? Something to do with Reader XI, as I don't remember having this problem for our last release? Foxit also seems to work in opening the links.
    Thanks

I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.
    Thanks

  • PDF links work in Acrobat - don't work in Reader

Acrobat version: 9.5.1 (latest as of this writing)
Reader version: 10.1.3 (latest as of this writing)
I createa  Word doc that has links to UNC shares that look like this:
    "\\server\share\file.exe"
I convert the file to a PDF through Acrobat File -> New.
When I open the PDF file in Acrobat, the link works, and the file is launched.
When I open the file in Reader, the link doesn't work, and this error message is presented:
    Could not open file '/server/share/file.exe'
I'm guessing Reader is interpolating the link to be a relative path - I want to instruct it that this is an absolute link.
If it helps, the machine is running WinXP SP3 32bit.

Sandboxing has been implemented with Reader X which disables launch of any executables from within a PDF.
Thats why you are receiving this message which is expected.
