Absolutely turn off integrated 9400m graphics chip

Hi,
Is it possible to turn off 9400m GT graphics in the new Pros?
I'm looking forward to buy the one, but not sure if its good then my old one with 8600m gt 512mb.
I have looked at loots of benchmarks, etc. So no need to post them here
Why I'm asking this? because integrated graphics chip eats RAM, so 9400M GT will cut off 256 MB of my RAM, even if it is turned off from software and 9600M GT used.
If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Also, what about Vista 64 running through the BootCamp on these new devices? Are there any troubles/bugs, etc?
Don't want to buy a gadget, which will disappoint me
Thanks,
Alex

I agree with the previous post--my free memory (according to Activity Monitor) is identical regardless of which graphics chip I use. However, I did read a review somewhere that said the 9600 chip is superior not only for its power but because it has its own dedicated ram--implying, as you state, that the 9400 eats up some ram. Maybe someone can clarify this more.
The other issue I'm still investigating is which gpu I want to choose as my default. Since most of the time, I use the AC adapter, I'm thinking the 9600 should be the default for its power. Then, I'd just switch to the 9400 only at those locations where I really have to use the battery. But even then, unless this was a transcontinental plane flight (which I do maybe once a year, if that), battery life even on the 9600 is more than adequate for me.
By the way, if you have the MBP set to not require login on startup, the actual time it takes to change from one chip to the other is maybe 5 seconds from the time you click on the "OK to logout" button.

  • Models that turn off integrated antenna when using antenna jack.

I am looking for a cell phone that has an external antenna jack AND will turn off the integrated antenna when the external jack is inserted. Lets define the term " integrated" as being an internal antenna or the permanent attached external or nub style. This can be on the market now or on the used market. The Treo line, even the old ones, is my primary interest but only because i have tried them and I could check email. Any HP/Palm model cell phone would be fine even if it is only available on the used ebay market. Knowing what models DO and DO NOT have an external jack and knowing what ones WILL and WILL NOT turn off the antenna next to my head will help me narrow down my options. So knowing a model will not do as I want is just as valuable. Thanks for the help. Pete I try to buy local. With cell phones that is hard for obvious reasons. HP has many workers in my hometown so i will support them first. If you can think of a non-HP or PALM company that offers this option please let me know and I will add it to the backup list.
    Post relates to: Palm Pilot

Set all destinations to always ask and select no whenever the phone gives you a request, set Maps to offline, and set location to just use intergrated GPS. By the way, just been to Portugal using Vodafone and data charges only about £5 for week, and they've just improved allowances, may be worth checking your service providers web site and see if it's necessary to bother about data roaming, they all tend to follow each other, and Data roaming charges in europe seem to be coming down !

  • Turn off as much graphical stuff as possible?

    hi,
there is something wrong with my ibook, its really slow and an os reinstall wont help.
what can i do to use less resources, the kind of graphics that mac os 9 had (which was none)
    disable shadows, fading, ext.

    Hi,
Reduce files/folders on the Desktop... they use way more resources there.
    Disable Spotlight & Dasboaed.
Keep Plenty of free space on the HDD, the more the better.
Might give a try with Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Takes 2 or 3 restarts before the speed gain is noticeable.

  • Can i turn off integrated video adapter and use only discret video card?

pavilion g6 2284sr. I have not menu in BIOS to do this. I have not menu in Catalyst control center to activate discret card for all processes. i have not any rules for do anything with this problem. Pls can you give me bios programm version that wiil give me rules. I don't know is my discret card all right. Please do not describe me how i must to assign programms for each graphic adapter.
And where i can read information about all components of hardware for this notebook.

For each clip you can go to the audio portion of inspector and uncheck/disable the tracks you don't desire. That would take longer than Tom's method, but I think the audio won't show up as a blank later on.

  • Intel Graphics chip question

I've got a MBP with the i7 Processor. 15" model. I also got the upgraded 1680x1050 screen too.
Just tonight, when I turned on my machine it powered up normally, flashed the desktop and then went to a fuzzy/snowy screen. Kinda like snow on an old television set that's not getting a signal but with no movement or flickering. I get the pointer but that's it.
When I restart the machine connected to an external monitor via mini display port, all's fine. When I unplug the external screen it goes back to the same screen issue.
When I restart with external monitor, then turn off the auto graphics switching option in the energy saver system preference panel, all's fine, I can unplug the monitor and use my MBP screen. I can use it with the built in nVidia chip, but not the intel. Any one else have troubles with this?
I just updated the system with the latest software update which had a graphics thing in it, but that did not solve the problem. It seems that my intel graphics chip is dead. Any help or guidance is much appreciated.
    Brent

It is a new Macbook Pro 15" i7. I did a complete reinstall and unfortunately my Time Machine Back up does not have before I installed Air Display. Still does it. Even with the new update.
Also reinstalled Air Display just to try and uninstall it - no luck
Also tried PRAM reset it stays on a blue screen after start up (Apple with spinning wheel).
Still works with Nvida but the moment I switch to Dynamic it goes to that screen. I did a reinstall with out my applications from Time Machine...Intel works. Of course I have to rebuild everything.

  • Safari 7.1 won't load large images on MacBook Air. Turning off Auto Graphics is not an option.

When I try to load a large image with Safari 7.1, I get a black box instead of an image.
Chrome and Firefox load the image just fine.
This is a known problem and others have resolved it by turning off Auto Graphics Switching.
However, my version of MacBook does not have the capability to turn off Auto Graphics Switching under the Energy Saver preferences. (I guess I have the GPU or chip or whatever that doesn't provide that option.)
    Are there any workarounds?
Here are two threads about the same problem, but the solutions don't work for me:
safari 7 won´t load large images...
Safari 7.0.1 does not load large images

    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar
    Enable Images.
Make sure that"Disable Images" is not enabled.
    Best.

    hi me kashif Hello people,
I lost all my contacts on my iPhone. Facebook contacts integration is turned off. When I got to know that I have no contacts on my iPhone. I checked my settings and iCloud backup and contacts on iCloud (in settings) were off.
Is there a solution to get all my contacts back? Please help me. I want my contacts back, as soon as possible.
    Thank you in advance.
    iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.4

Unless as part of a backup, or stored somewhere else, they are gone.
Your son needs his own Apple ID for iCloud, FaceTime & iMessage. He can continue to use yours for iTunes content, but for everything else, he needs his own.
When you did what you did, as far as iCloud knows, this is the same person with multiple devices, and that's they way things are supposed to work: keep everything in sync.

  • Retina Macbook Pro Graphics Jittery and worse with graphic switching turned off

I recently updated my computer I've been running Mountain Lion since it was available. But recently I performed the apple updates (which I don't think had anything to do with graphics) and suddenly everything is jittery, choppy and freaking out. I could be wrong but just suddenly the other day everything was super choppy.
Turning off "Automatic Graphics Switching" actually makes it every MORE jittery and choppy. I have to keep it on otherise I cannot even scroll a webpage with out the jittery making it impossible to see anything until I stop scrolling.
I notice the choppness when using expose, switching desktops, sometimes when scrolling in Google Chrome (Definately when the AGS is turned off), going into full screen app mode, and my top bar lags and you can see it flash when it refreshes itself.
I've tried clearing my PRAM with no luck and also tried an SMC reset, again with no luck.
Any thoughts? This is incredibly annoying!

I was able to fix the graphics by the following:
    Creating a time machine backup
creating a bootable Mountain lion SD Memory card (I didn't have a USB sick available)
    Booted into the recorvery manager
    Erased the disk
reinstalled Mountain lion from the SD Card
Imported my data from Time machine. IMPORTANT: I didn't included any settings or "other settings" I just moved ONLY apps and files
My desktop appeared to be just as it was before, all apps and everything in the correct place (Go Time machine!)
    Programs with issues after re-install:
AutoCAD 2013 for mac had some folder issue, AutoDesk had a workaround (I just uninstalled it, I don't use it much)
Virtual Box running a Windows 7 install completely crapped out (I never wanted to use Windows on my Mac anyways)
Mail app had to re-initialize, but all settings and account information was saved. Just had to wait for it to download the all the emails from my accounts again
That's all I found so far! I'm glad to have the screen animations back to felling like butter. Makes me love my Mac all over again!

  • Acer Timeline 4810TG discrete graphic card turn off (lenovo_acpi.c)

    Hi to all,
I'm new to archlinux, but I've been attracted by the rollin release scheme and I'm trying to understand better how linux works, so I've decided to try it.
I've managed to install and setup everything, but the discrete graphic turn off module. When i was using ubuntu I had found a module (lenovo_acpi.c) that was written just to turn off the discrete ATI card using ACPI and it gives to me a couple of hours more of battery, but with archlinux it seems to not work. I've managed to build it, to modprobe it but with the lsmod the two graphics card are still there and the power consumption is still high.
Is there any known issue? Someone knows any difference with ubuntu/suse/fedora that prevents this module to work with archlinux?
    Thanks,
    GortiZ

    Hey,
is lenovo_acpi still working with current kernel (3.6.3-1-ARCH) ? I just switched from gentoo to ubuntu to archlinux because I couldn't turn my ati card off anywhere..
    I also tried this switching:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ac … e_Graphics
which reduces the heat a little and gives me some extra hours.. but it's not that good as lenovo_acpi..
Is there any other way to turn the graphics card off? Or is there any way to get lenovo_acpi to work again?
    greetings
