Absolutly No Sound What So Ever.

I just got a mac mini about a week ago. It has been working great until tonight. I was watching that Apple MEeting thing with Steve Jobs under"Quicktime" and the sound was really quiet. I had the speaker up to my ear and it was like Steve Jobs was Wispering into a tin can. When I wanted to listen to iTunes about 10 minutes ago, three hours after little sound, there was nothing. Not out of the internal speaker, Headphones, and external speskers. All the volume in turned up and it is not muted. So please help. Suggest anything, even if it farfetched.

There are usually two separate settings for volume. One is for the system itself (in the Sound System Preferences) and the other is for the individual application that's playing the audio. Are EACH of these turned up? You can reset the system volume by "zapping the PRAM". Restart the Mac mini and hold down on the Apple, Option, p and r keys all at the same time. You should hear the startup chime (the first one may be quiet) but keep holding down on the keys until you hear the third chime. Then let go of the keys and let the Mac mini finish starting up. Then make sure the volume in your applications is turned up and give it a try again.

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • No sound what so ever in Windows XP.

Roughly an hour or two ago I booted my computer onto the Windows XP partition of my Hard-drive and Heard the familiar Start up noise thingy for Windows XP. I thought I would play a little Team Fortress 2 and started Steam and TF2. Once in the game I noticed that I wasn't hearing any of the usual menu music of Sound effects. I decided to quit out of the game and restart my computer, there was no log-off/shut down sound thingy. I restarted and re-booted into Windows XP and this time there was not Start up tone either. There was still no sound in anything in Windows.
I've checked and double checked all of the sound control panel and I've checked my speakers and everything is the same as it was when I was getting sound.
I've got the standard 2008 quadcore Mac Pro except that I have a Geforce 8800GT for a graphics card. I don't know how to find system information in Windows so if you need me to show you something else tell me what it is you're looking for and how to find it.

I have the same problem but my problem is on a literal desktop PC with win XPpro SP2. I installed the game and get noise from the video but then noise from the game menus or anything. After quitting it took out sound altogether on windows. I had to reinstall sound drivers but I still get no noise in game, but windows sound works fine even if I quit out of the game. Not sure what to do.

  • There is NO SOUND what so ever

I have had my iPod since Christmas this past year and it has been working fine ever since about a week ago. I usually use my iPod in my car (connected with the radio) and all of the sudden it wont play sound (even when the both radio stations are the same and it is fully charged).
Then I tried to see if it would work regularly with headphones and it doesn't. I even tested the headphones on another device and it worked. I tired reseting the iPod several times and it did not help. I have updated iTunes and everything.
The display and video works just fine, its strictly the sound that doesn't work even if the volume is turned up all the way.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to solve this problem. Thanks!

Have you tried restoring the iPod?

  • No Sound What-so-ever on Macbook Pro

Recently, my Macbooks sound stopped working.  I did not drop it, spill anything, or do any external harms to my computer that would cause the sound to stop working.  My computer recognizes when headphones are plugged in, but no sound will come out of the headphones either.  There is no red light coming out of the headphone jack. There is no start up chime.  I have reset the... PRAM?... when you push the 3 buttons at start up... there are no sounds when I reset the PRAM. Zero sound is coming from my computer.  I also tried that garage band trick and no luck.  My computer is 3 1/2 years old.  My mom did not take my advice and buy apple care or extend the warranty on my laptop, so if there is a way to fix this without it costing me all the money I have in my name right now, that would help a ton.  PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME

Go to System Settings -> Sound and check the settings according to the following pictures:
If the settings are correct and there is no sound either on headphone nor internal speaker, fiddle a bit with the headphone plug (smooth) in and out at the socket. Sometimes the contacts inside the socket are locked.
If nothing of the above helps, eventually your sound device is gone.

  • No audio or any sound what so ever

Hello. Recently i upgraded from Windows XP to windows Vista Home Premium. My sound has stopped working since. I teamed up with a Microsoft professional and he said to go see if there is a new driver i can download for this type of problem. My System Model is PY195AV-ABA a1110y
. If you can, please me a link for the latest driver to the lastest BIOS and the sound card. My microsoft support helper has told me that he will work closely with HP. Please help and thank you. If any HP staff would like to contact me privatly through e-mail please let me know

    BIOS:
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software7/COL15074/pv-40292-1/sp26760.exe
Your motherboard has Realtek onboard audio, however this is a CTO machine which could have an addon sound card.If you think you are using the onboard or just aren't sure...try the Realtek driver:
    ftp://66.104.77.130/pc/audio/Vista_R214.exe

  • I keep loosing absolutely ALL sound from my mac using Garageband

I am just trying to create 1 track, something very simple nothing fancy...
I am only using Garageband NOTHING else is running, but from the start the track is orange, anyways I try to trim the length a little and in a few minutes I get that message that says something like too many vocals or instruments.
I loose all my sound, I try internet, itunes and the Garageband and get no sound what so ever!
The only way to get sound back on my mac is if i restart it or shut it down completely which is very annoying.
By the way once I loose sound in Garageband if I hit the space bar for the track to play I get a weird clicking sound, like if I were double clicking on my pad even though I am not touching the pad at all.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Yup, me too. This has been happening ever since I got MB 1.5 year ago. No fix yet.

  • No Sound What So E

I have no sound what so ever except for my Tower Beeping when there is supposed to be sound. I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall. Didnt work. Tried updating doesnt work. And when I try to update the driver it says its not installed. I cant find the driver installment software so is there anyone that can help me out or point me in the right direction. I have SoundBlaster Li've 5. model # SB0220

    gimike,
Did the card stop working recently, or have you installed it new? It's an OEM card, so the drivers on the Creative site won't work as you've found. If you have the install CD, use that to reinstall. Otherwise, you may need to go back to the manufacturer of your computer. Here is one source for the XP drivers.

    Hello there, RobenCaatje.
The following Knowledge Base article is specific for the issue you're describing:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630
    Specifically:
    Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

I can see the DIN font in my Dropbox but it is showing up like this:-  ._DIN-bold, no file file extension. what am I doing wrong? is it Mac?

    (1)    Adobe Type Manager (ATM) is not compatible with any version of Windows beyond Windows XP (32-bit, only). Attempting to install ATM on any newer version of Windows may actually disable Window's capability of rendering Type 1 and OpenType CFF fonts, requiring a reinstallation of Windows.
    (2)    There is no need to use ATM to install any fonts under Windows.
    (3)    The file name ._DIN-bold is indicative of a MacOS font. These fonts cannot be installed on Windows systems.

I have an audio problem that when ever I use my Firefox web browser it makes a sharp audible sound similar to a video game gun shot sound effect when ever I go into a new web page? I change to a new site or page a page on a site, I get an audible gunshot ping trpe sound? It happens almost every time. Its very annoying and is driving me nuts???
Any body out there had this happen also or know how to diagnose and fix this type of problem? I would hate to have to delete my whole Firefox program and have to start over again. If that is the case I will probably just scrap it and go on to try Google Chrome instead. I already have GC partially set up. I really have liked Firefox up to this point. I know add ons can cause problems at times but I haven't added anything new lately and this just started happening?
