Absurdity of iBook highlights

2 different cases:
1)
I buy an ebook directly from the store
I can read the book from all my devices
I take highlights
The highlights are stored in apple servers consequently these are accessible by any devices
--> BUT I can not export this highlights -> the copy/paste feature is deactivate -> absurdity of intellectual property -> any ideas to workaround?
2)
I load an ebook directly in iBook from my dropbox or email
this is just locally on device - no cloud
I take highlights
In this case i CAN export these highlights but just in a text format to save it in a txt or pdf or evernote
--> BUT i can not export an highlights-data-file to re-import to the same book in some other device
do you know a way?
example: in iPad i load Pinocchio.epub -> i take highlights -> both epub and highlights are stored locally -> now i load the same Pinocchio.epub in my Mini-iPad -> I want to see the same highlights taken on iPad .. how to do it?

Did you try using Transfer Purchases to get the ePub into iBooks and then select that ePub to sync back to the other device? I know that there is a way to do this. I helped someone else in this very same situation. He was downloading free ePub books, taking Notes and highlighting sections of text and wanted to transfer those opus from one device to the other using iBooks.
I know what the company line is about not being able to transfer "non purchased" content from your device into iTunes, but I did it, so I know that there is a way to do it, but I believe that I used transfer purchases to get the ePub into iBooks,

  • IBook highlight and dictionary tabs disappeared how to bring them back?, iBook highlight and dictionary tabs disappeared how to bring them back?

Suddenly found out that after I upgrade to iOS 6, my highlight and dictionary functions are gone! Now all I can find is only speak function, how to bring these highlight and dictionary tabs back to life? These two functions are of great help to me while using my iBook app. Thanks in advance!!
    Kevin

Okay, I got the problems patially fixed now!
Just searched the technic support web site and found troubl shootings, I took one the those suggestions: "power off and reboot" my device (which is my iPad 2) and after the procedure, the iBooks highlights and note, define founction works again. However, the speak function now can't work!!!
There are bugs!!! Apple, please help got rid of those annoying bugs ASAP!!  It used to work perfectly in the previous versions of iBooks, my pleasant experience of using iPad 2 are being ruined, very sad!!!
I'd like to have speak function back with all the "copy, define, highlight, note, search, and share" functions all work seamlessly. just my simple wish!
And by the way, in the speak function, it is so stupid to ask user to select English or Chinese when I am in an pure Eglish book, can't iBooks recognize the words or sentance I've select are all English???  The iBooks 3.0.1 interface needs to be greatly improved! Don't let  me down, Apple!!!

  • IBook highlighting exist? Ipad 4

    iBook highlighting exist?

    Yes.
Double tap the word you want to highlight then tap highlight from the popup menu.
    Is this a PDF?
iBooks has never allowed annotation of PDFs.

  • IBooks highlighting: beachball

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 8,2, with 8 GB of RAM and a 500 GB SSD that is 40% full, Yosemite 10.10.
I have some textbooks in iBooks, and when they have a lot of annotations in them, iBooks gets very laggy.  The SBBOD (spinning beachball of death) appears at every attempted highlight there is a delay of about 4 seconds and then the beachball appears for another 4 seconds, before the highlight appears. This might not sound like much but when I'm making a lot of annotations, it's annoying and makes iBooks unusable.
I had the same problem with Mavericks, and it persisted in a clean install of the Yosemite public beta, and now in the public release of Yosemite (which I installed over the beta.
The delay does not occur until after I have made a fair number of highlights in a book.
I took a look at Activity monitory while doing a highlight and the CPU exceeded 100% during the beachball.
In Console, there's a lot of activity like this during the beachball:
    10/25/14 8:47:47.778 AM com.apple.CommerceKit.TransactionService[3406]: TransactionServiceDelegate: Accepting new connection <NSXPCConnection: 0x7fb79af80110> connection from pid 3404 with interface <TransactionServiceInterface: 0x7fb79af804e0> (PID 3404)

I suspect it has something to do with iBooks syncing the highlighting with iCloud and my other devices, or it's obsessively checking this book (which I created from a public domain pdf) with the iTunes store.
Any help greatly appreciated. I'd rather not have to put more RAM in my MBP just to use iBooks.

Thanks for the suggestion Ward... But the functionality is still lost.
I understand that different books may have different restrictions attached.  But I lost the functionality in a book that let me send highlighted excerpts by e-mail... then the functionality disappeared while reading the same book.  (This was possibly provoked by closing down iBooks, and restarting iBooks.)
I tried your re-set suggestion (twice) with no luck.  I re-visited the highlighting in previously read chapters that allowed the 'send excerpt by email' functionality earlier... but these items that *did* previously enable the enhanced functionality that I enjoyed, were no longer able to access the 'send excerpt by email' functionality.
(I am wondering if perhaps the functionality disappeared because I am in Canada?)

  • TS1702 iBooks highlight feature.

I have deleted and reinstall iBooks twice, yet I cannot get the highlight future to work on my PDF books or similar. Anyone having the same problem?

iBooks only has the "enhanced" note taking features for ePub files, there are PDF anotators that you may be able to use, or you could try converting the PDF to and ePub.

Having problems with highlighting feature in iBooks after updating ios8 to my iPad. Please help!

I Too am having problems with iBooks highlighting the entire chapter if I touch the right edge of a page.  It overrides my previous highlighting making my studying useles. It's terribly frustrating! iOS 8 has been a big,big problem. Apple has to fix this.  There should be a way to undo it.  It's a terrible mess.

  • Undo last action in ibooks

I just spent the last hour studying an article in iBooks highlighting various parts. Somehow at the very end of the article on my last highlight I went past the last. In the last sentence. It immediately highlighted the entire article. I cannot find any way anywhere to undo my last action. It combined the entire article highlights I had made into one. I just lost my last hour of work. Any ideas?

  • Ibooks notes deleted

    Hello everybody,
iBooks question here. I've found that when highlighting a note in iBooks, if you drag up and to the right - AND drag off of the screen (which I find myself doing), iBooks highlights to the very beginning of the book and deletes ALL of your notes. Is there a fix for this? Below is the message I submitted to Apple.
"Hi, I've very frustratingly discovered that the highlight and notes feature in iBooks is a totally useless piece of ****. I have recently begun buying books within iBooks mostly because of this feature, which I would (if it worked correctly) describe as a "killer" feature. It's very engaging to read a book, easily highlight something and then write a note about it. I love it. Unfortunately though, here is what I'm experiencing:
If you highlight and drag UP and to the right, AND drag off of the screen (which naturally happens), every single goddam word from the touch point all the way to beginning of the book is highlighted. And, all previous notes are gone (boxes to indicate a note still show up but tapping them only reveals your latest note).
I can't believe you could release this."

An iTunes account is used for purchasing.
Every time I sync contacts get screwd up or notes get deleted or iBooks or notes get copied from one phone to the other. I've tried many settings trying to stop this. I do NOT want a separate login for each phone.
What are the right settings (or is the correct way) to sync 2 iPhones without copying or deleteing info from one or the other?
Nothing gets copied from one iPhone to the other.
Everything gets copied from iTunes/computer to iPhone.
Select the iPhone iTunes, click the tabs across top and select what you want to sync.
I do NOT want a separate login for each phone.
Then you are not going to be able to always sync different data.
Notes are notes. It's sync them or not.
Calendars and contacts you can select specific groups and calendars though I would recommend using iCloud (not iTunes) to sync this.

  • Highlighting sometimes brokes all my highlights!

When I am highlighting some sentences and suddenly hold my finger on the end of a paragraph the iBook highlights the whole chapter  and I should remove all my highlights!! It's terrible! It destroys all my efforts of highlighting. Any ideas how to undo or change this stuff?
    thanks.

There are two ways to highlight. One way, and the quickest as it automatically highlights, is to place your finger down at the beginning and move across the page to the end and release the finger. The other way is to double tap, which brings up a dialogue box, scroll across, select highlight, release.

  • Will bookmarks, highlights and notes disappear after "personal" editing?

I have to read many .epub classical books (almost all public domain) on iBook. Those books are not necessarily from iBookStore. I make highlights, notes, etc.
My situation is that the formats/styles and typos of those classical .epub make me extremely uncomfortable.
So I am planning to edit those errors whenever I find them on my Mac.
    Here is the workflow:
Read on iBook ——> highlights ——> see errors ——> export .epub to editing tools on Mac ——> edit ——> export to iBook ——> read
My only question is will all my bookmarks, highlights and notes disappear when I edit the epub?
Does anyone know where/how iBook records/store the highlights and bookmarks? In .plist or something else? Since If I know where all my annotations are, I couse easily preserve them when I am editing the epub.
This is a very very big problem of mine. Please help me.

Connect iPad with iTunes Mac and copy the book to Mac. Then import it into Sigil (an open-source epub editor) http://code.google.com/p/sigil/.
In Sigil, edit whatever part I need. Then export to iTunes again and sync with iPad connected.
After this, the book no longer belong to the iCloud, but treated as ordinary epub imported into iPad.

  • Problems with using tab -button in application

    Hi all,
I'm working on a game, using AS 3.0 and would like to use TAB -key in the game to do certain in-game actions. With Firefox,  Chrome and Safari it works without problems and focus stays in the app. With IE8 It also works fine on some cases but for example on my friend's machine, with IE8, it switches the focus from the app to address bar and other components. We both have up-to-date flash players. I've tried to search the net for solution without great results. Is there solutions for fixing this issue in or outside AS3.0 (like using javascript?) or any ideas what's the root of the problem?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • How can I stop shared files in iBooks being highlighted by different family members?

I Have family sharing set up which is great for sharing apps and music however I have a problem with iBooks. My wife and I both use ePub files which a re study material. The great thing about these is that we can highlight and add notes to files.
THe problem is that our individual highlights and notes are shared with each other. So I get my wife's highlights and notes on top of mine.
We ha ve tried clearing all ePub files from my wife's ipad, and only syncing them to mine. She then downloads her own copy of the ePub file. So one has the original which is on our iMac and one has another copy. This makes no difference as iTunes recognises them as the same file.
We'd be happy to switch off family sharing for iBooks to prevent this but that doesn't seem possible. It's all or nothing. I can't turn off family sharing completely as my wife will lose access to our shared music library.
Does oes anyone have any suggestions? Basically, we want to share music and apps through family sharing but have a separate collection of books even though those books might be ide bridal before we annotate them.

Have you tried going into the Preferences on iBooks on your Mac and unchecking the option for syncing across devices?

  • Just bought a new iPad, and my highlights and bookmarks will not sync to it through iBooks.

Hey, I just bought the third-generation iPad. I have been reading on the iPad 2 for a year now, and have hundreds of books in my library. Because I'm such an intense reader, and value my highlights, it upset me when I bought the new iPad, synced it to iTunes, and then highlights and bookmarks were not transferred to the new iPad. The books were all out of order when they synced, and I had to rearrange them, but they were in the correct collections. This was my first hint that something was wrong. Next, when I opened my books, I could not find a single highlight in any of them. I checked all the books on my iPad 2 and they're fine as usual, everything is how I left it, including my bookmarks and highlights, and I even went into settings and made sure sync bookmarks was on on both iPads. I am completely confused and frustrated. I even put my new iPad into DFU mode and tried to re-sync everything, nothing is working. They just won't sync. Could someone please help me out, this means a lot to me. Also: is anyone noticing that the multitouch is slightly off with the new iPad? I'll go to tap dictation or drag an icon to another page, and it's just not that responsive. a few times I have clicked the dictation button but I gotten a space in instead. It seems you just have to press harder almost. Lastly, my 30 pin seems to be a little tight. I put a standard 30 pin sync cord that came with my original iPad 2 and iPhone 4 into the 30 pin and I almost had to jam it into the 30 pin slot. I work with iDevices all day long and have never had one that needed to be jammed in before. It doesn't seem good for the iPad. Yes, I am borderline about to return it, but the screen just looks so much clearer, I can't go back to my iPad 2. Wow, again I pressed the dictation button and the spacebar activated instead. If anyone can figure out this whole iBook situation so I can get my bookmarks and my highlights back, I would really appreciate it!

I also tried manually underlining a few things on the new iPad and when highlighting a paragraph, it would skip a few lines and the line would go through a few as well. Looks like a major iBooks glitch needs to be addressed here.

Mine does the same thing occasionally, is your phone jailbroken? Sometimes it will work if you delete the book and reinstall it or put your phone into airplane mode then turn it back off.

  • Why does the highlight feature seem not to work about 1/2 the time in various ibooks.  I'm trying to take notes and about 50 pages into a book the highlight feature stopped working.

I've long noted that the highlight feature in ibooks is clunky and fairly limited in it's note-taking features, but the last two books I've read I've had trouble getting the highlight feature to work at all.  I click and drag over text and nothing happens.  I try with command depressed and nothing happens.  If I double click a bunch it will eventually highlight one word, but nothing more.  What gives?
Also, not to be snarky, but why can't I seem to find a button that would read text to speach for me?  How do blind people use this service, or illiterate, or dyslexic, or people like myself who can learn far more from hearing then from reading.
And why does the text of a book often render so that it's haf cut off of the page?

There is a button for speech within the iBooks menu. Edit > Speech. You might be better off buying Audiobooks. You can get them from the iTunes Store or Audible.com
