AC-3 bitrate issues w/ DVD SP 4

Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to adjust the settings in DVD SP4 so I can import an ac-3 file with a 640kbps (5.1 channels) onto a standard-definition DVD. The program won't let me import an ac-3 with that kind of bitrate and I can't seem to find a workaround within DVD SP4. It does, however, import 448 kbps files just fine.
I made the all the ac-3 files (448 and 640 kbps) in A-Pack, as well as Compressor 2 as 'Generic AC-3s.' Both of the 640s were incompatible with DVD SP4.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Naveen,
DVDSP only allows Dolby Digital AC-3 (mono to 5.1 surround using 64 to 448 Kbps) cause thats what the SD DVD spec allows. You'll need DTS or PCM for a higher datarate.

  • Major color/saturation issues in dvd authoring

hi. we've just finished color correction for our indie film, and looking at the digi-beta master on a pro-ntsc monitor- it looks great. but, the dvd's look terrible. there has been a lot of yellow added to warm up the picture. so on the master, the yellow is subtle and applied to the backgrounds, on the dvd, the yellow is awful and everywhere. for example, on a close up of our lead, his skin is so freakishly yellow he looks like an oompa-loompa- not the look we're going for. here's the other kicker- when played on a computer with an LCD monitor, the dvd's look great- like the master. but i've played the dvd's on 4 different television, with 4 different dvd players, and they all look like crap. does anyone know how to solve this color issue in dvd studio pro? we cut the project in FCP. color was final touch, brought back into FCP. quick time exported from FCP, 10 bit uncompressed, 23.98 non-drop frame. then dvd studio pro used to do the authoring. all dvd studio pro settings are at default. THX!

So you used DVDSP to do the encoding as well as the authoring??
Have you tried taking a short-ish section of the footage and encoding it wiht something a good deal better, such as BitVice, MegaPEX or Canopus Procoder or Cinemacraft? These will give you much, much better quality encodes and you simply author the project with the MPEG file as an asset instead of the uncompressed file. If you use a short section you can get a better estimation of what is happening before you go for the full encode.
I realise these encoders are not free, but if you are serious about what you are doing then you'll need to invest in something that is purpose built for the job! The above range from not very expensive to moderate... and Cinemacraft goes into the high end price bracket depending on the version you opt for.

I'm sure the pros will be along to ask what your settings are.  Although this may not be exactly helpful, I did find compressor to be much more robust for burning DVDs.  This could partially be because it includes a template to convert you movie into correct DVD format.  I was quite pleased with the outcome after multiple failed attempts using FCPX alone.

Yes, I can read but just can't write DVD's. I get:
This disc can’t be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc (error code 0x80020063).

  • Commentary, Audio & Burning Issues with DVD-9

Hi. I have a collection of problems here that sprouted up when building and formatting a dual-layer disc. I have a feature film with two commentaries on top of the normal audio track. If you hit play on the main menu, I specified A1 (which is the normal track) and it goes to two .jpegs (FBI Warning & Interviews/Commentaries Disclaimer) and then plays the movie.
If you go to the Special Features menu, you can hit two play buttons with each commentary specified to them (A2 & A3) the two .jpegs appear and then the movie plays.
This works fine in the simulator but when I build the disc and play the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folder in Apple's DVD Player, this doesn't work. A1 is what is heard (I have to manually select the commentary audio tracks in DVD Player). I tried bypassing the .jpegs and have the commentary buttons go straight to the movie and this works when I build and play in DVD Player. I wouldn't prefer to do it that way. So if there's a solution it would be appreciated.
My second issue is more related to audio encoding. But I'm not sure if this is a Compressor issue or DVD SP4 issue. I encode the audio from .AIFFs or audio from .MOVs into Dolby .AC3 files. The settings in Compressor is:
    http://www.underlibertymovie.com/Compressor_Settings.png
The audio sounds fine in the simulator, however when I build the disc and open in DVD Player, the audio levels are all over the map. Whenever something is bassy (low frequency) happens, the audio levels are dropped and then gradually raises to normal level. So whenever the bass drum hits in the soundtrack or explosions, this sounds really strange. I'm sorry if this is solely a Compressor issue but I thought I'd give it a shot.
And thirdly, this is a dual layer DVD-9 at 6.6 GBs of data. I've set a valid layer break point as far as I know and have tried to burn several times. First I had Memorex DVD+R DL media and it would write the lead-in, start the first bit of the image, then abort and say "The device reported an error: Unknown device" and then there was an error code that I can't recall (something like 00x 04x)
After finding out that Memorex is not a reputable brand, I had my partner drive quite a ways to find DVD+R DL Verbatim discs (which is what people were consistently recommending) and the same problem occurred. I also noticed afterward that both brands are ReWritable discs. The Memorex discs didn't specify this but my Mac said it was. I can burn another DVD and get the exact error message if that helps.
Sorry for such a long post, but I'm at a loss with these issues. Thanks.

    Hi Logimec,
If your playback requirements are as simple as you say, here is an option
that will work with no scripts.
Have your FBI and commentaries as one short vid track and create 3 stories
name the 1st "... A1", the next story as "...A2" then another for A3.
in the story inspector, general tab, DISABLE all other audio options except
the one which coresponds with the desired audio content, you must do this
even if they have no audio to go with them.
then create 3 stories for your feature track named "...A1,2,3 (same as earlier)
and again, enable ONLY the audio track you wish presented.
select the buttons, one at a time for each option and look to the "Button inspector, advanced tab, streams option"
and select the audio stream you wish presented.
Needless to say you must also RE-target your buttons to the desired story
line and not the main tracks.
you must be sure that the end jump from the warning to the feature goes to
    the coresponding story/audio option, A1 to A1, A2 to A2, etc.
I also recommend you look in the help manual under "Setting the dual layer direction" "OTP & ATP" it may help you improve the delay at your "Break Point"
    Hope this helps,

  • Boot Camp 2 issues: repartioning; DVD-drive; screen; sound; usb-power

I found various problems in version 2 of Boot Camp (included in Leopard).
    1.
After removing the Boot Camp 2 Windows partition, it is impossible to recreate a new Windows partition. Somehow the windows partition is not completely removed (?) and the Boot Camp Assistent goes on forever restoring the Macintosh HD to its original (one partition) state. Strangely, you can just quit the assistant during this process without consequences. Only repartitioning the complete HD using Disk Utility resolves this (this of course requires a complete reinstallation of OS X).
    2.
After installation of Windows XP Pro, Windows treats the DVD-drive (OPTIARC DVD RW AD5630-A) as a removable media, just like a USB-memory. This means that you can remove the DVD hardware from the system(using the tray icon "Safe Removal hardware") by just one click. The DVD drive then completely disappears from 'My Computer' even with a CD in! The only way to get the DVD-drive back is by restarting Windows (inserting a disk can be done but it is impossible to access the disk; ejecting the disc is also impossible (the eject key on the mac keyboard doesn't work).
    3.
I suspect that there is something wrong with the video driver in windows. This can be noted for instance with the black "moon crater" as the desktop image (lower left corner) or in the windows login-screen (lower blue part of the screen). The issue may be described as pixels varying in brightness and colour in a fast way. Pixels are not "constant" and it seems like a wave is moving over these parts of the screen. It seems more or less comparable to the problems reported with Boot Camp beta 1.4 on MPB's.
    4.
I also suspect the windows sound driver (RealTek) not to be ok. Every Windows sound (startup Chime, warning, etc.) is followed by a strange electronic sound, as if the sound is echoing while fading away. I did not try to play an audio CD, but I think this may result in a not so pleasant experience.
    5.
When I connect my 2 GB Kingston USB-memory to the internal hub of the new apple keyboard, Windows starts complaining that there is not sufficient power. The same configuration works without problems under Mac OS X.
Has anyone similar experiences? To me it seems like Boot Camp is still in beta stage....

    I also encountered problems 4 and 5:
*To no. 4: Distorted sound and background noise:*
It's exactly the same as described by HLO-HL. As soon as the soundcard gets turned on in Vista (by any program i.e. iTunes, Mediaplayer) there is this background noise. Watching a DVD is almost impossible. Listening to music in iTunes is somewhat ok, but only at high volume (so the background noise cannot be heard) and it is still distorted sometimes.
I tried about everything from installing the latetest Realtek driver, updating the Intel chipset drivers, to changing the bitrates and so on. Still no resolution found. It seems the many others experience the same problem (search for 'distorted sound Vista').
*To no. 5: Low USB power reported*
I got this message with every device I connected (no matter if it was a 2.5''-harddrive, a cardreader, a camera or just a simple memory stick ...

  • Adobe Encore 1.5 DVD disc reading issues in DVD Duplicator

    Hello All,
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the experience I'm having and if they might have a solution. I produce a weekly 1 hour music video program for public access cable TV. The show is bicycled to 15 different locations on DVD. I use Adobe Premiere and Encore the capture, edit and burn the completed program to DVD. I recently purchased a DVD duplicator tower (1 to 5 disc) to speed up the time it takes me to make the 15 copies I need. However, I have encountered an issue that I believe is related to Adobe Encore 1.5; when I put the completed master DVD into the duplicator, the duplicator is unable to read the disc. I know the disc (discs - I've tried several different shows on different DVDs with different types of blank DVD brands) is playable in the PC and on several standalone DVD players. Also, we get no complaints from the 15 stations that play our discs. At this time I'm stuck making 1 copy at a time in Encore. I know that the duplicator works as I have been able to test and successfully duplicate other DVDs and CD's that are not copy protected without issue. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? If I need to provide more information let me know?

Some notes/ideas here that may help
    To
Burn Error Proof DVDs (Well, close to error proof!)
Use the SLOWEST possible burn option your burner will allow in Encore, since it is much better to take a bit more time burning the disc than it is to burn "fast" and have a disc that won't play
Set the VIDEO portion of the transcoding options to a Maximum of 7,000 so your burned disc will have a better chance at playing in desktop players (which support burned discs, if at all, only as an "after thought" of the DVD specification)
Use AC3 or PCM audio transcode settings for best player compatibility (some discussion of MPEG audio not being supported by all players, especially for NTSC discs)
Buy and use Taiyo Yuden (or Verbatim?) brand blank discs

  • Issue burning DVD in premiere elements 13

    To shortly summerize my problem:
When I try to burn a DVD premere elements is not really working like it should imho:
At 98% it first gave an error that there were no plugin DLL's. Disk was ejected but useless.
Second and third go it gave an error at 98% indicating that the writespeed was incorrect. Error message was wider then the container showing the message.
Tried burning an DVD ISO to harddisk instead: no errors but also no file. Doublechecked file location, reburned, same issue
Tried to encode to MP4 to harddisk: no issues
Tried reinstalling premiere elements: same issues
Does anyone have a good idea on what to try next?
    My computerspecs are as follows:
    win8.1 x64
    4790Ti
    8gb ram
No dedicated video card: intel hd graphics 4600
simple 8 speed usb DVD burner (keep in mind it also won't burn ISO files to harddrive...)
Computer fully patched and up to date, including latest quicktime
Obviously premiere elements 13, but the Dutch version.

    Petter01
Juergen may have hit on a critical matter as it relates to the success or failure of Premiere Elements 13 and its Burn To: Blu-ray ISO Image (25 GB).
Other ISO Image opportunities (for DVD and AVCHD) in Premiere Elements 13 have not yet been brought into the matter.
For many posts, Juergen has been reporting that he can generate a  Premiere Elements 13.iso image for Blu-ray, but when the .iso is taken to disc, the player does not recognize
the disc content. Only recently has he mentioned that the issue seems to be related to the file size of the .iso image produced. He said that if the Premiere Elements 13 iso file exceeded about 1.1 GB, the Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc produced in ImgBurn could not be read by the players.
Last night, I checked into that to see if I could confirm Juergen's observation. I have. This is a serious setback for Premiere Elements 13 which finally offers an Blu-ray ISO Image as an alternative to the Burn To: Disc product.
    So, for you to confirm.....
    1. Are you doing Publish+Share/Disc/DVD with Burn To: = ISO Image?
    2. If so, are you actually seeing an .iso image generated and saved to your computer hard drive?
If so, what is the file size of the .iso file produced?
    3. What is the file size for the DVD .iso file that you take into ImgBurn for burn to DVD disc to the correct disc files system,
is the disc content recognized by your player? If so, what player.
    Thanks.

  • Issue, cd/dvd drive not ready in time

    Hello,
I am new to the Apple and OS X. So far I am impressed. One issue is bothering me however. It takes some time for the cd/dvd drive to go from sleep mode to active mode. This may take up to 10 seconds. Some programs will return a message that the drive is not available before it is active, for instance Finder and X-Plane 9. Result is that will not show the contents of the drive and X-Plane will work in demo mode.
Question: is there a way I can set the default time that the system will look for the availability of the drive before reporting back that it is "not found".
Hope my question makes sense. Any input is much appreciated.
    Kind regards, Hans.

    Hi Elmac,
Thanks for your reply. I am not familiair with previous versions of OS X. But with v10.5.5 the drive is shown on the desktop as standard. Issue is that when you do not use the drive for a while it will go into sleep mode. When you start using it again it does not wake in time, so the program using it will return an error message. I understand that you do not have this problem?
    Hans.

  • Burned DVD issues in DVD player not reading or music issues stop and start

I'm a PC converted to a MAC (less than a month) and love it so far. I have been able to create and burn a DVD. The problem I'm having is one DVD player will not read the DVD (Hitachi). The other DVD player will play it, but the music stops and starts when it transitions (twirl) to another picture (Panasonic DVD/VHS combo). I'm using a DVD R Memorex. Neither one of the player are new. Would love to use this to make the Grandparent's a DVD of the grandchildren from birth to present as Christmas present. What do I need to use or do to be able to watch on any DVD player as well as the computers?

    Hi me01
Welcome to apple discussions. Try using 99 photos / less to avoid issues with audio fades / drops. Also do a search for Memorex on this forum and you'll see it's not the first choice of dvd's for most users. Instead try Verbatim, Maxell, or Taiyo Yuden and burn at 4x from a disc image for best results. Wish you luck and feel free to post back with results or any further questions.

  • Sync issue with DVDs

    Hi there.
I need some advice or random thoughts.
Whenever I burn a DVD from an HD QT file, I find that I have to advance the picture by 3 or 4 frames to be in sync.
    Am I doing something wrong?
Does anyone else have this issue?
I am shooting HDV, going to a ProRes sequence and then mixing down to a Quicktime HD file. I then go into Compressor and make a, say, 90 minute compressed file and bring that into DVD Studio Pro.
If I don't advance the sound by 4 frames it is always out of sync.
I am using all the latest updates of all FCS software and an 8 core Mac with Leopard latest updates.
I am also using QMaster using 4 cores setting.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Harry

I've been importing an aif file of the audio in DVDSP, after a bit of forum reading, I'm going to try an encoded AC3 file instead and see if that improves the audio synch.

Unfortunately the solution by GerBra doesn't work for me.
With 2.6.32 kernel, blacklisting pata_acpi from kernel boot options in grub and from rc.conf produced this messages at boot:
    22:ata1.01: ATAPI: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B, DL10, max UDMA/33
423:ata1.01: WARNING: ATAPI DMA disabled for reliability issues. It can be enabled
424:ata1.01: WARNING: via pata_ali.atapi_dma modparam or corresponding sysfs node.
    425:ata1.01: configured for UDMA/33
    Even hdparm reported:
    /dev/sr0:
    Model=HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B, FwRev=DL10, SerialNo=19A2B5AFE5D8
    Config={ Fixed Removeable DTR<=5Mbs DTR>10Mbs nonMagnetic }
    RawCHS=0/0/0, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=0
    BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=unknown, MaxMultSect=0
    (maybe): CurCHS=0/0/0, CurSects=0, LBA=yes, LBAsects=0
    IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
    PIO modes: pio0 pio3 pio4
    DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
    UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 *udma2
    AdvancedPM=no
    Drive conforms to: Unspecified: ATA/ATAPI-2,3,4,5
    * signifies the current active mode
It seems that dma is active, but a simple:
    dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/dev/null
...produce a 100% cpu usage reported by htop.
    Instead, issuing:
    echo 1 > /sys/module/pata_ali/parameters/atapi_dma
Seems to correct all the issues, except that the system sometimes hangs at boot if i put that command in rc.local(!)
    putting:
    options pata_ali atapi_dma=1
in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (as kernel messages suggest) has no effect on arch linux because that module is loaded in initrd.
So, (at least for me) it is necessary to edit /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and change/add to the FILES array:/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    Eg:
    FILES= ' to ' FILES="/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf"
    Next, something like
    echo "options pata_ali atapi_dma=1" >> /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    and finally:
    mkinitcpio -p kernel26
    reboot

  • Quality Issues Burning DVD's

I am new to iDVD and iMovie.
I am hoping to be able to burn a DVD that will play on a
standard DVD player hooked up to a TV.
I made a 4 minute movie in iMovie,
    then onto iDVD...
    Saved movie to HDD
Burned DVDs via disk utility (one at all 3 speeds)
    Used high quality DVDs.
    The DVDs I created...
only the 4x would play on my standard DVD.
It plays in black and white, not color.
    It stops and starts frequently.
Do I have any other options on my Mac?
Should I copy the movie to miniDV and take it to
    a company that burns DVD's?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
I posted this question in the iMovie forum as well...
    Thanks in advance,
    Kell

What kind of media are you using? Are you using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R and burning from a disc image at 4x or slower?
Use Roxio Toast or apple's Disc Utilities to lower the burn speed. If your DVD or iMovie has B&W issues where it's not supposed to, then you have a shaky connection / loose cable somewhere. Check all connections (make sure all is snug).
