AC adapter not charging battery or powering computer

Hello:
The AC adapter is not charging my battery although the LED light becomes orange as if it is charging. In addition, it appears the computer is not recognizing the AC adapter at all. If I remove the battery and try to use the AC adapter, it does not power it (yet, the LED light becomes orange). So far I did three things:
I did PMU resetting but it did not help.
I tried to upgrade the batter (by going to Utilities > PowerBook G4 Battery Updater) but a message saying “Plug a 60W charger to the computer” popped up even though the charger was already plugged in, and the LED’s light was orange.
I transferred my battery to my brother’s Powerbook and plugged the same charger to his computer, it worked fine (it charged it).
My guess is the computer is not recognizing the AC adapter at all.

I just logged on to ask for help about this problem. I'm not really surprised to see that I'm not alone. I've been having problems with AC Adapters for over half a year. I had to return three of them because after a day or two they stopped working. Then I got fed up (and also a bit embarrassed) and stop returning them and just dealt with the fact that I cannot have a second, functioning AC Adapter. I should add that all these AC Adapters were not original Apple ones - they are from Deer Computer Co. Ltd. About a month ago the one functioning AC Adapter I have started acting up, so I took my laptop to the Apple Service and explained the problem. The guy checked the connection port and he told me everything was ok, he also said that I should buy the original Apple AC Adapter. I was a bit baffled since they sell the ones I purchased themselves. If you go into the store (which is an authorised store that sells exclusively Apple products here in Switzerland: http://dataquest.ch) and ask for an AC Adapter they will automatically give you this (cheaper) version, if you want the original, you have to ask for it specifically. Anyway, today I went and bought an Apple AC Adapter, and - it's not properly loading. It's green, then it flashes green and orange. I've had it plugged in for close to an hour now and it went from 0% to an impressive 9%. I'm getting very frustrated here. I just don't know what to do anymore. I have a feeling that very soon this AC Adapter will cease to function completely, just like the other ones I've had in the past six months. I spent more time, energy and money on AC Adapters than I possibly should have to!

Please provide some more information. What charger are you using? Are you connected to a wall outlet or to a computer or hub? If you're connected to a computer, is it a high powered hub? Are you using your iPad while charging?

  • Ugent: DM4-1160us laptop not charging battery when battery completely drained

    Hi, all,
I bought it last year and, a month later, I found it does not charge battery when the
battery was completed drained. "completely drained" means when clicking on power on
button, the charging light does not even flash. In such as case, if I plug in the power cord
to charge the battery, the computer will stay in "charging, 0%) forever and the charging
light stays amber and sometimes turns into white later.
Computer can not power up without power cord plugged in. Battery dinostics said battery
is bad and gave an error long error code. HP suppport replaced it with a new battery. But,
I found later the same problem happened again.
Note: the problem only happens when battery is completed drained meaning
the charging light does not flash when trying to turn the computer on.
I suspect the computer itself is defective. Anyone has idea?
    Thanks,
    SZ

Power management software in Windows Vista
    Understanding battery charging issues
If the notebook battery is not charging or the notebook does not indicate that the battery is charging, the most likely scenario is that the battery itself is operating correctly, but its power management software may have become corrupt. In order to correct the problem, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software by using the Device Manager. This document will explain how to uninstall and reinstall the ACPI Battery listings in Windows Vista, as well as how to obtain and install updated BIOS files, if needed to correct other battery issues.
Uninstalling and reinstalling power management software in Windows Vista
In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.
    1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
    2. Expand the Batteries category.
    3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
    4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

  • Palm Pre crazy symptoms: "phone offline", will not charge battery, will not start, error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved"

This is a long description of a series of problems with my new Palm Pre. You may wish to search the text to find your specific issue(s). There is no solution in my post. Look for possible answers in the responses to come.
I bought my Palm Pre 4 days ago and it arrived 2 days ago. Phone worked great. Last night I plugged in the phone and updated the OS. After completion, I selected "Done" and went to bed.
    - First Series of Issues: "Phone Offline", will not charge battery -
In upper lefthand corner of the phone there is the message "phone offline". Although the phone has been charging all night it reads "26% battery". I called the general Sprint tech support number and we tried the following things:
    1) Restart phone (press and hold power button, then select "turn off". after power down, press and hold power button to power on.)
    2) Reset the phone (several different ways - call tech support so that you do this correctly)
The individual at Sprint then sent me to another tech support person, presumably 2nd tier.
    - Second Series of Issues: Error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" -
Sprint tech support person #2 also had me restart and reset the phone in a number of ways. In her words "we've tried every palm pre trick I know" and each time the phone was unresponsive. Often we received the error message "phone is offline". We did a full erase and after that the phone would no longer restart. At this point the error message came up saying "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" which referred me to www.palm.com for assistance. I think it's important to note here that this was not the typical error message (black screen with white letters) but rather the blue sky background with a semitransparent box over it with white text.
Sprint tech support person #2 then connected me with Palm support and the dance continued. Again we tried a whole bunch of resetting and restarting and erasing options. Palm support instructed me to go to: www.palm.com/rom to download WebOS Doctor, which I did. I downloaded the file. While that was happening he had me hold the "volume up" button and plug the phone into the charger. This caused a USB symbol to appear on the phone. When the file was complete I received an error message that the file couldn't run. Palm tech support person seemed surprised. I mentioned that I was on a Mac and he said he couldn't help me. He then transferred me to another Palm support person who works with Mac users.
Palms tech support person #2 then informed me that I should have selected the "mac" download option on www.palm.com/rom. I verbally walked her through the whole series of webpages, telling her that it says that you need Windows (version whatever) or Mac (version whatever) but that at no time was there an option to download a different WebOS Doctor for different operating systems. After some more discussion she told me she would have to have someone call me back tomorrow.
    - Third Series of Issues: phone stuck on USB symbol -
So at the moment the phone is completely useless. Not fantastic. I booted up the mac in Windows 7 and downloaded WebOS Doc and received the same error. I also ran Windows Vista virtually and received the same error. Later this afternoon I'm heading into work to try the same thing on Windows XP.
In the meantime, I got onto this forum and located a thread that provided a direct link to the necessary file:
    palm.cdnetworks.net/staging/rom/webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar
After downloading that file, which I realized could totally be a virus, I was able to get WebOS Doc working on my computer. It required that I recharge the phone completely before beginning and now it's on the screen that says "Don't disconnect your phone" and the file is at 3% complete. Only... it's been at 3% complete for almost 30 minutes.
I am hoping that Palm will follow up with me tomorrow, but I'm leaving at 7am on a business trip and would love to have the thing working. Any suggestions are welcome, even if you can just tell me how to get the think disconnected safely before my flight tomorrow. I don't fancy getting through security with my phone wired to my laptop.
    Thanks.

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Our phone support is open every day Monday through Sunday, although there are different hours of operation for the weekend. If after a webOS Doctor reset you are still experiencing the same problems, I would likely recommend replacement, either in a local store for your carrier or through our technical support department.
There may be additional technical support offered or suggested over the phone, this would need to be done first before a replacement could be issued.
    Hope this helps,

  • Since my I upgraded to ios7 my iPhone 4 will not charge, battery completely dead.  Any ideas

Since my I upgraded to ios7 my iPhone 4 will not charge, battery completely dead.  Any ideas

I updated my iphone 4 to ios7 three days ago. It now will only charge if connected to a computer USB port, either Mac or windows. It no longer charges on any wall mounted USB cable, like it did before the upgrade. The wall mounted cables still work just fine with an iPhone 4S and a new iPad retina display but not at all with the iPhone 4. Took it to a genius at apple store and they checked the battery. It still charges to 80% of original. They were clueless and suggested I replace the unit.  It seemed to be related to ios7

  • IPhone will not charge when plugged into computer

My phone was not working, and so I took it to the apple store nearby. Here were the problems:
-error message saying "this device not made to work with iPhone"
-would not charge when plugged into computer OR wall charger
-person on other end of phone calls said i sounded really far away and had trouble hearing me
-when i shut it off, it restarts itself immediately
-cant do a manual reset holding the power and center buttons at same time
-when plugged into the computer, mouse freezes, and a message appears saying ""power surge on hub port A usb device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port."
At the genuis bar they told me they cant help me cause that little water damage indicator inside the headphone hole is pink instead of white! I have never ever ever ever ever EVER gotten my phone directly wet. The only thing i could think of was the humidity in the bathroom when I'm taking a shower, and using the timer to use hair remover on my legs lol. But i think this is totally unfair, they wont repair my phone, or even really look at it because of this supposed water damage. My phone has worked fine up to this point, and the thing that happened that started all of this is when i dropped it about a foot off the ground in a DRY parking lot.
Is there any way they will replace my iphone at no charge?

Well don't give up try again maybe your luck will change when you go back up there, let somebody else look at your phone not the same person that told you that.I would get a second and a 3rd option about my phone. When you go back don't even tell them what somebody already told you up there ones.
And after the 3rd time I'll ask them well can they send your phone off to be fixed,It might not be nothing wrong with your phone it might be just they eyes playing tricks on them.Cause I promise you I know my phone had gotten some water in it cause I was sitting on the porch one day me and about 6 other people one of my cousin came out and through a bucket of water at my brother and I was sitting right on the side of him.And when I say my phone look like I than gave it a bath witch when they did that I had already had call the Apple store and told them something was wrong with my phone. And they had gave me appt to come up there,so I went to the Apple store I wanted say two day's latter after I made the appt to let them see my phone but my cousin and brother was playing with that water the day before I had to go so I guess that's why I was mad cause I was going to get other phone the next day after apple look at my old phone. So even with all that they still gave me other phone and I don't see how I didn't have no water in my phone cause of how much water they had through on my phone.
I guess I was luck cause if they would have told me that I would have freaked out so badly. And the reason why cause I wouldn't had my phone for five days and for them to tell me they couldn't do something oh yea they would have done something cause I would have went to jail that day for tearing up something in the store that worth my 400 and something dollars I spent on my phone and it would have bent one of them computer that would have bent history.
But I'M telling you,you going to be okay don't give up.Make you other appt and see what they say.

  • Why iPad does not charge battery when is connected to my laptop?

Because most USB ports do not put out enough power to meet the iPad's minimum requirements. An iPad is best charged plugged into the wall with the supplied charger.

  • Battery good, Ac Adapter Good, Computer not charging battery or staying on

My sisters 14inch ibook g4 will not stay on. We swapped my ac adapter with hers and her ac adapter works on my ibook. Swapped her battery with mine and her battery works on my ibook. So her battery is good and her adapter is good but computer will only stay on while battery has a charge otherwise is turns off (even while ac adapter is plugged in). Reset power management and all other posted ideas and now I have no idea what to do. The enegry status shows "battery not charging" and its plugged into a regular ac outlet so I am not sure why it says that except the fact its not charging..errr...I am starting to think it's a hardware issue... any opinions?

It sounds like the power input (DC-in) board has failed. This is the part of the iBook which houses the adapter port. The iBook is acting just like my husband's did when the power input board was damaged.

  • HP Zbook15 not charging battery; AC adapter works, Battery works bu not charging

Window 7 OS. Zbook battery wont charge. I checked it via HP battery health check and it show OK, Discharging, capacity 91%. Battery health check could came back that AC adapter not present, however it was plugged in and power the the computer. The AC adpter works and powers computer. But when battery is installed the plugged in icon does not show. The plgged in icon only shows when battery is removed. This is NOT a failed battery or failed AC Adapter problem. Both check out completely by exchange with another same model laptop. How can I get my computer to recharge the battery?

  • Adapter does not charge battery

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me. My MacBook is about a year old. The past few days the adapter is not charging the battery properly. It's either it doesn't work at all, or I have to finagle the wire and push it into the computer. The wire is not frayed either. Is it possible that I need a new adapter already??

    Welcome to the forums!
If you think the adapter is making good contact, try resetting the SMC, as it often solves mysterious power issues:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't help, try a different adapter, if you can lay your hands on one (and any MagSafe will do). That will narrow down the problem to either the MacBook end or the charger end.
Whichever is the case, if you are under warranty, Apple should repair the MacBook or replace the adapter for free. If you are no longer under warranty, hope it's the adapter that's bad.
    Good luck!

  • IGo universal adapter not charging the battery?

Since yesterday I have realized that my apple adapter for the PowerBook G3 PDQ (aka wallstreet) has died. I plugged in the adapter and the battery icon just stays the way it is. So I plugged in the iGo Juice 70 and yeah the laptop shows the thunderbolt on the battery. Since I know when you use the laptop while charging, it is suppose to charge slowly. In two hours it said the battery is full. I thought the adapter charged it faster. Today I used it in battery mode and it show a full battery. When it was at 92% the laptop fell asleep. I checked the battery tester and it shows that the battery is empty. So I plugged in the same adapter, woke up the laptop, and it showed it was charging from 0% and in one minute it went up to 100%. I also have realized that the battery tester doesn't light up when it is charging. I tried this in OSX 10.2.8 and OS 9.2.2. Is it the adapter, laptop, battery??? Something else???

    Vstream,
It does not sound like a power adapter issue. Since the adapter will power/run the powerbook, it has sufficient voltage to also charge the battery. Be sure to check if the battery charges in sleep or when turned off. You mentioned that the battery showed 100% charged; you then disconnected the power adapter and let the 'book run on battery; at 94% the 'book shut down. This has nothing to do with the power adapter; you either have a failing battery or a hardware problem in the 'book. Your problems are almost certainly a bad battery with classic symptoms...test LEDs refusing to light and random shutdowns when running on battery.
A definitive test is swapping batteries with a known-good Wallstreet, but this is usually not an available option.

  • Lenovo G550 does not charge battery!!!! please help!!!!! :c

So i havent used my Lenovo for about a year and a half because i had lost the originial charger. ive recently bought a new cheap charger from amazon and thought it was the charger that was the problem when i looked it up online and found out it may be a bug from Windows 7. Now, this charger does turn on my laptop, but it does not charge it. It simply says "plugged in, not charging" and when i was reading an article on how to fix this , i was trying for hours to uninstall a program under device management called Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Conntrol Method Battery, because it was said that uninstalling this would help the system charge again. but after countless hours, i found that the program reinstalls itself and i am left with a laptop that just wont charge. my laptop says 0% (plugged in, not charging) and i really need this to work for the upcoming school year. i dont know what else to do! whenever i disconnect the wire the system completely shuts down and if i dont fix this problem ill just have to get rid of my Lenovo G550, which i absolutely LOVE! please, anyone help me! do i need to install a new version of windows? do i need to uninstall something? or is my laptop absolutely done for?
    please, please, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hi Chernandez51,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it seems like the battery was fully discharged after not being for a long time (batteries degrade overtime due to age, heat, and usage).
What you can try is to charge the battery for an hour or two while the computer is off then observe the status light indicators.
     - Link to picture
If the battery still doesn't take a charge then the battery might have gone faulty and needs a replacement.
For best compatibility, I recommend you use a Lenovo approved AC adapter and charger. You can buy one from the lenovo spare parts website (www.lenovospareparts.com) or you can buy online (eg. Amazon, Ebay, etc.) but ensure that there's a Lenovo FRU part number on the item..

  • 12 volt plug charger does not charge battery

the green light on computer connector is on, the computer shows the icon that is connected to external power, but the battery dies. It works fine on wall outlet. This was first time I used plug. All seems fine but it does not charge the battery.
Apple is good at selling computers, but I just spent over an hour to get an answer for this and this is the best i found so far. We is the product support?
    Please, someone helps.

Apple does not make a 12 V power adapter (i.e. car power adapter) for the MBP. What type of power adapter are you using?
If you are using the MagSafe Airline Adapter, which comes with the larger 'cigarette-lighter-style" adapter that +looks like+ it will work in a car power port, be aware that the MagSafe Airline Adapter _does not_ work for 12 V power from an auto - it explicitly states that in the product description.
If you are using an inverter, what are the power specifications for the inverter? Can it deliver the 85 W of power the MBP power adapter requires?

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 does not charge battery

    Hi -
When I plug the power cord into my laptop, the battery either does not charge, or charges on and off for about a second each time.
I am 100% sure it is not the power cord, because a light in port on the laptop lights up even when the battery is out, leading me to believe that power is definitely getting to the laptop, but something inside the laptop is disconnected or else the outlet where I plug the cord into the computer is bent or something.
I cannot turn on the computer with the battery out and the power cord plugged in.  It might turn on for a few seconds then turn off.
Taking out the battery and putting it back in does not help.
Jostling the plug rarely helps, and the most that happens is the charging light flashes on and off.
It is no longer under warranty (I have had the laptop for about 2 1/2 years).
I heard from a friend that HP laptops sometimes have this problem.  Does anyone know how I can fix it???  I would rather not send it to HP for maintenance.  It would take waaay too long.  And I'm already mad that they (purposefully?) engineered the laptop so the fan is nearly impossible to get to, even though the fan clogging up is the first problem on any laptop.  It is my only computer and it is extremely important that I am able to use it for school.
Any insight would be VERY helpful.  Thanks!

I have the exatcly same problem. I am sure that it is neither battary or AC adapter as I have bought both new to fix this issue but problem remains same.
It gives me a impression that within the laptop (mother board or power connector) has the issues which does not give the power to the laptop to work , nor it gives to battary to charge.
Let me mention that when I bought a new battary, my laptop worked for 4-5 hours till the charge ran out from the battary and now again I am landed up to the same problem.
any body who has come across this problem and got it fixed , it will be really great if you can share your experience.
    Thanks in advance.
