AC Adaptor Always plugged in

Is it okay to always use the AC adaptor instead of using your batteries all the time? Is this harmful?

Yes, it's quite OK. It will not harm the battery. Use the adaptor anytime it's convenient.

  • Always plugged in- Battery life

    Hi
what will be the effect on my battery if its always plugged in to the charger. I am using my MBP more or less like a desktop these days. charging , removing & again putting the charging lead is frustrating & sometimes i just forget to take the lead out & its there all night.
    what is the ideal recommendation.

    Welcome to the Forums!
Apple recommends a full discharge-charge cycle at least once per month.
    From http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html:
+For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month.+
    Hope this helps...

  • Should I always plug my laptop to the charger or should I let the battery die before recharging my laptop

Hi, I have a macbook pro.  I use it a lot for college and I was wondering, should I always plug my laptop to the charger or should I let the battery die before recharging my laptop? Is there a difference?  The battery of my laptop is supposed to last how long?
    Thank you alot!

I am traveling to India with my new iPad...to enable me to be online 24hrs a day to access my emails...do I just need a local sim card...also can I use a normal adaptor to plug in to charge or am I best paying for the apple universal kit....

If you have the AT&T 3G iPad then you can explore the SIM card. I'm not sure if India has the SIM network or another type. REgardless you should be able to access wifi.
HOnestly, if I were traveling I'd get a plug adapter from a normal retail store. You can get a good one for $20 or less at your local retailer, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, probably KMart though I've not looked for them there. Best Buy and the office supply stores may also have them. You don't have to pay for the official one unless you want to. (I have 'over the counter' plug adapters so if I traveled I'd use what I have not buy another)

  • Is it bad for my ipod to be always plugged to my bose sound dock?

I have it always plugged, and when I unplug it, it won't turn off and I have to reset it. Is it bad for the battery or for the ipod itself to be always plugged??
    Thanks a lot.

It isn't bad for the battery
since the charging circuit will only charge the
battery if needed and turn off charging when not
needed, so it won't trickle charge the whole time.
My concern would be for the LCD backlight. It is on
all the time? Like any light, they have a limited
number of hours, either getting dimmer with time or
burning out. So you could be putting unnecessary life
time on the backlight. If it is on, can you go into
the settings of the iPod and turn it off? Or like
when syncing the computer, does the backlight stay on
regardless of the LCD backlight setting on the iPod?
    Patrick
    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your answer. No, the backlight is not on, actually it turns off about two seconds after starting to play music or whatever.
My concern was because when I take the ipod off the speakers, I have to reset it to turn it off, but I guess it's something not bad for the ipod¿?
    Thanks again.

  • BIOS upgrade: "AC ADAPTOR IS PLUGGED OUT" ...not properly detected in fact

    Hi,
I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 working fine, but it is not detecting battery properly.
For instance, I've just tried to perform a BIOS upgrade and I received a error message "AC ADAPTOR IS PLUGGED OUT" with the BATTERY IN or TAKEN OUT.
I can't start the computer on battery alone, but it does remain ON if I disconnect the AC power. Once disconnected, the front LED goes OFF but battery led DOES NOT and the computer remains ON without AC. Despite the fact there is no indication on the LED or battery monitor, it operates on battery alone for an unknown period (not tested, but exceeding 15 minutes). I don't use battery power alone, just AC.
I worked fine a few days ago. I thought the problem was related to drivers and OS recently reinstalled (Windows XP Pro French, with French drivers) but it is not.
I am now suspecting a defective battery or power board. I just ordered a new battery.
Any clues on other possible explanations and cures?
    Best regards,
    Martin

I can't edit as it is, so I will clarify with another message
BIOS upgrade is telling me my AC is not connected, but it is (brand new adaptor). Even if I remove the battery, it is telling me it is not on AC, but AC led goes ON/OFF as expected.
My laptop no longer detects the presence of batteries, either on front led or by power management console.
Battery is holding the charge just fine, and does maintain the computer ON if disconnected but it can't start the notebook from batteries alone.
This is the mysery, waiting to be resolved.
    Thanks

  • Does your elicenser usb is always plugged in?

I have my registered licence of nexus2 on the key which is always plugged in my MBP.
but when I unplug my elicenser usb key , logic doesn't open.
I'd like to save the license of nexus in my computer without letting the usb plugged vecause it's wasting a usb slot on my mbp
    Can I do that ?
    thanks for your help

    Hi, schubyOne.
The elicencer will offer you a choice when you first get a new licence to either put in on a usb or install a software licence [ a soft licence] onto the computer itself.
When the program starts you should get a box with info about managing, getting new licences or transfering them.
The transferrring section is what you want. It says drag the old licence onto the new destination and follow thr prompts.
If any of this doesn't make sense or you are unsure, contact elicencer support and they will help.
    Good luck with it,
    Regards,
    Scorpii.

  • G3 iBook wakes up as soon as the power adaptor is plugged in

My sleeping iBook will wake up (even with lid closed) as soon as I plugged in the power adaptor. Also, if the power adaptor is plugged in, closing the lid won't put the iBook to sleep. Instead, the sleep light will come on for a few seconds, and then disappears and I can hear the hard disk spinning up, then the sleep light will appear again and the cycle repeats...But when I then open the lid, the iBook will then go to sleep!!!
This only happens if the iBook is in power adaptor mode. In battery mode, the iBook will sleep just fine by just closing the lid.
I repaired permissions and reset the PRAM, but to no avail. What could be wrong?

    Hi Missy L,
I don't know wether reinstalling Tiger would help. It might very well be a hardware problem. Did your iBook come with a hardware test CD? In that case, start from CD (insert CD and restart while holding down the "C" key) and run the Hardware Test. Maybe it will show something. Re-installing should only be your last resort.

  • Strange Icon of power adaptor being plugged into wall socket - locked iPod

During the process of updating as requested by itunes, my mini locked up and displayed an icon requesting to be plugged in. It was already plugged into the computer and had been working perfectly until the update. Now it only displays this icon of the adaptor and wall socket and won;t reset.....!!!!!!ugh

When updating or restoring the first gen iPod mini via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see that icon displayed.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.
    http://www.bearsdriving.com/blog/archives/2005/10/youripod_tipo.html
I make no claims as to whether this will work, but merely point it out.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • Is it okay to leave my MBPr 15" always plugged in to external displays?

I have a 15" MBPr with the 750m. I use it very mainly at my desk, plugged in to two monitors (a 4k display over thunderbolt and a 1080 display over HDMI) as well as other peripherals. The computer is always closed, operating in clamshell mode. I already cycle the battery once every two weeks, charging it fully and then draining it fully, the battery is not what I am wondering about. I am wondering if it is okay to leave my computer plugged in to the monitor and other peripherals while asleep for long periods of time.
I know this should seem like no big deal, but I notice that my mac is always noticeably warm when I wake it up in the morning, sometimes 130-140 F according to the sensors in the computer. At idle, doing nothing while awake the computer sits at 115-120. Is this a problem or is this normal? It doesn't seem normal...

I don't think your monitors and peripherals have anything to do with this heat problem. Make sure you go to Apple (symbol at top left) > sleep when you are not using the laptop. This prevents from any background programs from heavily using the CPU or other components. If that doesn't work, open activity monitor and click on the "CPU" tab and check if a program is using a lot of your processing program. If that program is a known program to you and you know it is supposed to be using resources more heavily, leave it running. If the program is unknown to you and you feel that it could be a background application that is unwanted, quit the process. Try to avoid quitting system programs; those are needed and can sometimes, but rarely, use up quite some CPU. But that is usually only when you instructed it to do so; for example copying gigabytes of files to a disk.
Lots of info here, but hope this helps! Ask any further questions that you may have!

  • Power cord on iPad has 10w adaptor but on iPhone no adaptor on plug. Are they interchangeable?

Are power cords in UK/IRL on iPad and iPhone interchangeable?
My iPad has a 10w adaptor on the plug of the power cord and the iPhone power cord has no adaptor. Do I have to carry both power cords when travelling or will one safely charge both devices?
Also I have a usb charger in my car - can I charge both devices on it?

The cord itself is interchangable. The power bricks are different. The ipad wants 10W, the iPhone 5W, however you can safely use an iPad charger to charge your iPhone.

  • Will using always plugged in my laptop harm my battery?

    Hi,
This kind of question has been around many years. All smart charger and smart batteries now know how to keep themselves in good sahpe. Batteries life depends on the number of charging cycles. No one can say in concrete because there are few factors which can change. Please read the following articles.

  • How do I upgrade to USB 3.0 and can I get an adaptor to plug into my laptop?

I've heard about PCI express 3.0 USB adaptors but don't know if my laptop is compatible.
Make and Model of Laptop = Compaq Presario CQ70-116EM Notebook PC.
Any help would be appreciated and I would also like a quick solution if required. I would rather have an adaptor if possible rather than stripping my machine to upgrade it???

That is an Expresscard. Expresscard 34 to be precise; a 54mm type also was around. This is the successor to pcmcia aka Cardbus. Once upon a time all laptops had an expansion slot. Now, not so much. PCMCIA/cardbus is the laptop equivalent of the pci bus and expresscard is the laptop equivalent of pci-e x1 slots.
Your laptop has no Expresscard slot. These days only the high-end business models have them. There is no way to add usb 3.0 to your laptop I am sorry to say. There is no motherboard you can put in there and nothing you can add which would allow usb 3.0.

  • IPhone 4 audio behaving like has headphones always plugged in

    Hello.
I have an iPhone 4. Software version is 4.3.5.
I currently have the sound button on. No headphones plugged. When push the sound button up or down, I have on scree the usual volume screen, however, it says ringer (headphones) instead of just ringer.
I have no sounds coming from apps (notifications...) and no sound coming from locking (it is set on on the settings). I cannot listen to the iPod music without headphones (no sound comes out of speakers). I only have these sounds when I plug headphones and the sounds come via headphones.
Also, if I have the iPod on, with headphones, the iPod does not turn off when I remove headphones.
I already switched it off and tried forced reset.
Any ideas to solve this, please?
    Thank you

Well guess what. My problem is fixed. Something to think about. After several days of frustration I found that the problem was with my new Mophie Battery. I contacted Mophie and they sent me a replacement and ever since the phone has worked just fine. The Customer Service from Mophie was outstanding.

  • Battery Issue - ipod always plugged

    hi everyone,
here's the deal: i have very few music in my pc, but i have a lot in my 30 gb video ipod. i want to know if having the ipod constantly plugged to the pc to hear the ipod's mp3 has any significant negative effect on the ipod's battery. anyone knows anything about this?

    thanks mitch
but still...the battery stops charging once its full...but, if i constantly hear songs from the ipod, it has to use the ipods power, hence the battery is constantly getting charged and slightly used, charged, and so on...
it might sound like i'm being too careful, but i would really like to sort this out and have the ipod plugged to the pc all the time.
