  • New power adapter for old macbook - It doesn't work!

    Hello!
My MacBook is 3 years old. My power adapter got broken at the end where you put it into the socket.
Now I bought a new power adapter. The adapters have changed now. The end where you put it into the computer looks now a little bit different. But they told me in the Apple Store that it will also fit my 3 years old Macbook.
At home it really fit my Macbook but it didn't charge. Nothing happened, no light. How can that be? Then I combined the two, the end for the socket of the new power adapter and the other part where you put it into the computer of my old power adapter. Now it charges. So is the problem after all the part where you put it into the computer of the new power adapter that looks different now?
Or what can I try now?
    Thank you for help!
    Sorry for my bad English.

  • I used migration assistant for old MacBook Pro to New MacBook Pro

Today, after being on the phone to applecare I uses migration assistant to copy files, applications etc from my old macbook pro to my new one using firewire, but only somethings copied for example, none of my photos, or music came over and also a lot of the software is asking for verification and codes etc. When the applecare person asked me to restart the old macbook pro holding down the "t" key, when it restarts all it shows is a firewire icon bouncing around on the screen like a screen saver, giving me no access to the old mac and therefore having to choose the transfer "from a time machine back up or other disk" option instead of the "from another mac" option, could that be the problem? Has anyone else experiamced this?

I did choose "other disk" cause it wouldn't let me choose the "from another mac" option. I'm thinking this is why not all of my stuff transfered? Also is it strange that the old mac just had the firwire icon bouncing around on the screen the whole time?
    Thanks

  • Purchasing A New Hard Drive For Old Macbook

    Hey everyone!
I'm new here. I found an old Macbook of mine—a black Macbook about 12 3/4" across. I got it a while ago, and the hard drive stopped working so I just bought a new computer. But now I would like to have two computers, and I would like to use this old Macbook again. I realize that this old Macbook still works; it just needs a new hard drive. So I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of a nice hard drive that I can slide into this black Macbook of mine. I looked online, and I'm afraid to purchase one without the help of someone; I don't know if the size of the drive will fit into this old Macbook or what. So if anyone can help me out, that would be so great! Thanks guys!

Here are step by step instructions with pictures on replacing the hard drive in a MacBook with a removable battery. http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=45088

  • Finding suitable apps for old Macbook

    Hello!
I'm interested in finding games that'll work on my older MacBook Pro.  I've the 2.26 Ghz Intel core 2  Duo. I know that some games offered on the App store are too powerful for this platform.  How do I research, without laboriously examining every software title listed in the app store?  Some listing don't list minimum system requirements, anyway. I don't want to pay and download a game app only to find it won't work. Is there some website that lists games with system requirements?
    Thoughts?  Thanks, Vince.

This doesn't really answer your question, but children find tablets much easier to use than traditional computers. Even children much younger than your daughter are surprisingly adept with them, and they usually don't need to be taught.

  • USB "N" enabler for "Old" MacBooks?

We bought two MacBooks a long, long, long time ago (June, 2006), and now we find that there's no real point in buying the new Airport Base Station, as the internal Airport card doesn't support 802.11N, and there never will be one that will.
Does anyone know of a currently selling USB device that will enable a plain old Core Duo MacBook to access the "N" wireless?

the internal Airport card doesn't support 802.11N, and
there never will be one that will.
Dont be so sure. People are reporting that if you install one of the new Mac Pro extreme cards into a Core Duo Macbook Pro, you can enable N. Probably will work on a Macbook too.

  • Install Windows 8.1 BootCamp drivers on old MacBook (Late 2008)

Here is how I installed BootCamp drivers for 8.1 on my old MakBook (Late 2008):
Download Boot Camp 4.0.4033 (Drivers for old MacBook is in this version)
Install Windows 7, then WIndows 8.1 (There are other threads on how to do that).
After Windows 8.1 installed, try to install Boot Camp 4.0.4033 again !!! (Reason: Only this version has the drivers for old Mac like mine)
Download and install InstEd on Windows 8: http://www.instedit.com/download.html. You need this to modify the BootCamp 4 MSI installer to allow you to run it
Run InstEd, click File > Open, browse to your <BootCamp_4.0.4033>\BootCamp\Drivers\Apple folder and choose BootCamp64.msi.
Click LaunchCondition on the left-hand list.
Select all the rows then right click Delete Rows. (Take a look, you will find thses are the messages you saw when you could not run the installer)
Save the file with a new name (I used bootcamp4.msi) and quit InstEd.
Now, you can install the BootCamp 4 drivers on your Mac, by click the Setup.exe (Yes, this will also instll TrackPad driver for old Mac)
The BootCamp 4 service application itself is not compatible with Windows 8.1, (not the drivers). So just download BootCamp 5.1.5621, and install it (Tip: InstEd).
After restart, click the BootCamp icon in the system tray. Set up TrackPad, Keyboad, etc. (How is this possible? Because the drivers were installed by BootCamp 4.0.4033.)
    Unstall InstEd, if you want.
    Enjoy!

    And I used this method:
    1. Install Windows 8.1
    2. Download BootCamp 5 and unzip to folder BootCamp5 of a USB drive
    3. Start CMD as Administrator
    4. Install BootCamp 5 by entering the following commands
D: (Assuming the USB drive is assigned to letter D
    CD BootCamp5\BootCamp\Drivers\Apple
    BootCamp.msi
No need for InstEd might be considered by some as even more elegant as bezodziu's method

  • Old MacBook Protective Case Question

I have an older White MacBook (before 2009). I bought it in the summer of 2008. I'm trying to shop for a protective case for it as the one I originally bought has broken. I've tried searching around online and haven't been able to find anything. I just keep coming across the Unibody model. I'm just wondering if there's someone out there who knows where I can find a case, particularly the incase brand.
    Thank you.
    Kristen

This ebay site apparently sells hard cases (absolutely NOT Incase or Speck brand) for 2006-early 2008 MacBooks, shipped from Hong Kong. I haven't purchased one from this vendor so I can't vouch for them.

  • Old MacBook black A1181 upgradequestion.

    Hi,
I have a MacBook black A1181. Model identifier is macbook1,1. Whats the year of this MacBook? What's the latest osx I can upgrade to? What's the max (or best size) memory I can upgrade to?  Can I install ssd drive on it?
    Thanks.
    Jay

If you upgrade the HDD to an SSD, that can be a boost in performance at a price.
However, due to the limited data transfer speed to & from the hard drive bus, a
super fast rated SSD would not be the correct part. These have a slower 1.5Gbps
    Hard Drive Interface.
The OWC macsales site has some links, information (video) from specific product
pages that are free, which could be helpful to upgrade a HDD or an SSD. And of
course they offer certain items that probably could be purchased there or anywhere.
Tools, and instructional video; correct parts (I'd hope to get their OWC SSD for one
of my older portable Apple computers; a 'legacy' one for ATA-IDE PPC G4) and an
other place for a set of free repair guides for old MacBook, is http://ifixit.com site.
There are some advantages to Snow Leopard 10.6(.8) in the early MacBook 13
coreduo, in that is has greater support and later browsers, etc. If my MB1.1 had
a few hardware repairs done, I'd likely upgrade from Leopard 10.5.8, too. Mine
is the slower CPU White 1.83GHz coreduo, while the Black is 2.0GHz coreduo.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can use old macbook for Time Machine Backup?

Have an old macbook running snow leopard.  Can I use it for Time Machine Back-up for my current macbook pro?

Boot your old into Target Disk mode, then plug a FireWire cable from your old to your pro.  Presto!  Your old's internal HD will appear in your pro's Finder as a disk on your pro.  Time machine running on your pro can use it for backup.  Time machine won't disturb its contents, except to add a potentially huge folder there, which will grow to fill the disk with copies of your backups. (Backing up, then) partitioning (and then restoring from backup) your old's internal hard drive will keep your pro's Time Machine from consuming all free space.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

Since this is the second computer you've had this problem with, I recommend you look for answers on the iPhone forum. My thinking is it is an iPhone issue rather than a computer issue (unless it is some software incompatibility).
