AC3 5.1 converted to DD 2.0

Hi,
I don't know why but my AC3 footage (1080i) with 6 channels is converted into DD stereo, Any idea why? I had done other Blu-Rays before that did not have this problem and are with 5.1 sound.

Encore cannot create 5.1 audio, all it can do is pass through compliant 5.1 streams.  So..make sure your stream is compliant before importing into Encore and that you get a Do Not Transcode for it.

  • 5.1 AC3 downmixing to stereo

    Hi,
I am currently working on a workflow to create my own AVCHD discs (Blu-Ray on a DVD-R) from my Sony SR11 without editing or transcoding in Premiere. I import the files directly into Encore after demuxing them using tsMuxer (I need to demux them first because for some reason, Encore will refuse to import my muxed stream complaining about too many audio channels). The demuxed sound files are 5.1 AC3 Dolby files. When I create a timeline in Encore and add one of my video/audio file, the generated audio in the final disc is Dolby 5.1. However, if I include more than one video/audio pair, the program goes through a short transcode stage and the audio is converted to Dolby Stereo on the generated disc.
    Any idea why?

This is my second BD title that I've authored in Encore CS3 and this time around, I am having the same problem with Encore mucking with my 5.1 .ac3 file and converting it to 2 channel PCM. HOWEVER, I am not trying to join .ac3 files on one timeline. I have a dedicated timeline for each program on the disc.
I went back into the Project tab to see what the status was, and I see it shows "transcoded" so I changed the asset to "do not transcode" and burned another image. Unfortunately, Encore sabotaged my audio again, and there goes another $21 BD-R disc--the audio shows up as 2 ch PCM on the Sony BDP-S301 player, NOT the original 5.1 AC3 Dolby that was encoded from the DVD version of this program.
I don't know what is different about this project (I could have sworn my previous project containing a 90-minute concert left the AC3 audio in surround format) but I can't seem to feed it surround audio anymore and have it remain UNADULTERATED by Encore. Setting the attribute to "don't transcode" is apparently a joke--Encore ignores it and just does what it wants. I find a 1 GB .wav file in the transcoded files\ folder after each disc rendering session.
More perplexing is that on a prior BD I authored last year, I didn't have to do anything to the flags--5.1 ch ac3 remained intact and Encore seemed to know enough to leave it alone. But now it transcodes all ac3 audio to 2 ch PCM and I'm burning through an expensive and precious supply of BD-R media, trying to achieve a disc with 5.1 surround, as the original source files provided to Encore are.
I'm at wits' end. This is just one of a slew of things I hate about Encore, which reminds me a lot of editing in Dazzle's DVCII MovieStar application on a Pentium 400--glacially slow at repositioning in the timeline, garbage quality previews that don't manage even 1fps at 12 dots per inch, unstable, and always out of memory. How I long to be authoring in Scenarist BDMV!

  • Can Quicktime convert Video_TS content?

Just wondering if Quicktime can convert the contents of a Video_TS folder into a single-file video format, such as .mp4 or .mkv.  Thanks.

Just wondering if Quicktime can convert the contents of a Video_TS folder into a single-file video format, such as .mp4 or .mkv.
QT 7 can convert VOB files to any video compression format supported by your QT codec configuration if, and only if, your QT codec configuration includes the MPEG-2 Playback codec. Unfortunately, this codec does not support audio conversion of AC3. To convert VIDEO_TS folder content to MP4 or MKV files and preserve audio, video, multichannel, alternative audio, chapter, and/or subtitle content, most users would the free HandBrake app. I use it to create M4V files with H.264/AAC/AC3/Chapter tracks with burned-in "forced" subtitles as appropriate for iTunes management and playback on multiple Apple devices.

  • How do I install the AC3 codec into my mac OS X Snow Leopard?

I have movies that I want to view and edit in iMovie, but it and QuickTime does not recognize one of the two codecs associated with the files. The codecs are MPEG-2 and AC3. I was able to download the AC3 codec but cannot figure out where to install it at. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have movies that I want to view and edit in iMovie, but it and QuickTime does not recognize one of the two codecs associated with the files. The codecs are MPEG-2 and AC3.
iMovie '08/'09/'11 cannot access non-system or non-video editor added codecs. Muxed MPEG2/AC3 content must be imported directly from the camcorder into iMovie '08/'09/'11 as iMovie has its own special cancorder import routines built into the app which turns the MPEG-2 video into all I-frame MPEG-2 video and the AC3 audio is converted to Linear PCM (AIFF) content, both of which can be edited in iMovie. In addition, start and/or end time offsets are added to minimize variations in A/V synchronizarion. Content that cannot be imported directly from a camcorder or simulate import as if it were directly from a camcorder must be manually converted to edit compatible compression formats.

It seems I cannot import in imovie9 project from imovie4 ou imovie hd6 .. ? is it normal opr a problem with my files ?
what to do ( I know I can export from imovie 6 in dv and import in imovie 9 , but it is long and I cannot use imovie 6 with my emac .. ?)
    Thank's for answer or idea
nb/ what about dvd files or avi for import in imov9 ?
    Tank's and greetings from france

    What is a compression format?
A compress format literally refers to the codec used to compress/make the file content. DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, and H.264 are all video formats in which iMovie '08/'09 can edit "natively" (i.e., without having to change the video to a different compression format.) iMovie '08/'09 can any or all of these compression formats in a single project. Older iMovie applications normally edit in a single compression format. In HD, for instance, you could designate whether you wanted a DV project or an MPEG-4 project and any file not in the selected format would be converted to your "default" compression format for editing as part of the importing process. iMovie '08/'09 does not perform and conversions as it imports files at the "Finder" level. Camcorders, however, come in many different compression formats and, except for DV, none of them are currently compatible with iMovie editing as they come off the camcorder. Therefore, iMovie '08/'09 uses special importing routines that evaluate the incoming compression format and selects the proper way to deal with each. HDV and AVCHD, for instance, are converted to AIC video while multiplexed M2V/AC3 files are converted to an "all I-Frame" MPEG-2 format and the AC3 is converted to linear PCM which iMovie '08/'09 can edit. So the basic rule of thumb for file importation is, if iMovie can't edit it, it won't be imported. As for camcorders, if iMovie '08/'09 doesn't recognize it, it can't transcode and import it and it then falls to you, the user, to either make iMovie recognize the content or do the conversions yourself manually.

  • Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "Video 1"...

"Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "Video 1" were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod."
Never had this problem before. I just updated iTunes and there was no change. All videos are in .mov format. I've tried .mp4 as well with no change.
I've deleted them from the library and tried putting them back in several times. Anyone have any help for me?

    Hi!
I've been following the 5G iPod threads and playing around with video files for the past week while waiting for the iPod to arrive. It's now here. I somehow managed to rip a full-length DVD, demux the AC3 audio and convert it to AAC, put the movie back together, and load it into the iPod (don't ask... I don't think I could explain it...). However, the slideshow (with music) I made in iMovie (with input only from iPhoto and iTunes) which I "shared" to QuickTime (pro) using the expert settings and the default option to convert for iPod failed to load to the iPod!
Hmmm... strange that using five, third-party programs/hacks got me a full length feature film, but my Apple programs with built-in support used in the default mode for iPod failed to convert a simple three-minute iMovie slideshow. I tried two of them, neither worked...

  • Daisy Chained Projects Mixed Action Script

Will it cause problems if one project is in AC2 and is linked to another project in AC3? I am asking because all of my projects are AC2 except for one because it has to be in AC3.
I converted the project to AC3 and the link button from one chapter to the next no longer functions properly. It worked fine when it was an AC2 captivate export.

  • What video format does iPad prefer?

I have tried mp4 and mov. files but I always get " can not download - video file is not supported by iPad" . The best part is, I can't even playback videos that are recorded from my iPhone. Any advise?

For iPad you can play video other than mp4 by:
    1. Using third party player: such as OplayerHD Lite that maximum 720p such as Matroska container, FLV container,  AVI container.
    2. Re-muxing the stream into mp4, it is possible if all stream such as x.264 / AVC / h.264 Video with AAC audio stream. Muxing only re-saving into other container, it takes 1 seconds to 15 minutes maximum for 1080p 2 hours movie.
    3.  Re-encode the whole movie to mp4, this take 1 hour to 1 night, if the stream cannot be player by iPad spec.
    For option 1: Clear enough.
For option 2 : [PC only - XMedia Recode], this you can view 1080p mp4 movie, take 1-10 minutes
Download and install Xmedia Recode and mediainfo PC.
Open the video, make sure the Video is AvC or H.264, or it needs to re-encode using Handbrake or Xmedia Recode, Check the audio, make sure is AAC 2 ch/6ch
Check the mp4 output, Custom format, sync audio/video
On the Video tab, check video copy if the video already on AVC or H.264. It will take minutes.
If it is not AVC or H.264 then uncheck the video copy to re-encode the video. And it will takes hours.
On the Audio tab, check audio copy if the stream already AAC 2ch/6ch. It will take secods.
If it is mp3, AC3, DTS , Ogg then it needs to re encode the audio, It will take minutes.
Insert the title as wish, Dont edit/crop if you are just mux / copy check the video.
subtitle muxing are not supported to be muxed using Xmedia Recode, nor multi audio streams.
Add job, Start. The mp4 will be delivered in secods or 10 minutes max if just mux.
If you have subtitle, or extracted from MKV, make sure has same name file and subrip srt mode.
You can mux subtitle and mp4 using Subler that available on Mac only.
You can add metadata, cover, chapter using iTunes or Subler.
You can view the mp4 without subtitle or m4v Subler result using Video app iPad, or
You can view the mp4 + movie subtitle srt using third party player like OplayerHD Lite with iTunes plugin on.
Please remember the 1080p MP4 needs Copytrans manager for transfer to the iPad Video app
For option 2 : [Mac only MKV input- Subler], you can have the 720p /1080p subtitled m4v for 1-10 minutes
Download and install Subler free and mediainfo mac free
Open the video, make sure the Video is AvC or H.264 MKV, if not you must using Handbrake to re-encode it.
Check the audio, make sure is AAC 2 ch/6ch using mediainfo mac, if it is AC3 will be converted easily using Subler.
On preferences Subler, check the jpg chapter, and encoding AC3 to Stereo AAC.
Import mkv streams to subler, after open the mkv.
If you have multi sound, make sure the first stream is AAC, and the Group Alternative is 1 for all audio streams. If not multi audio stream, just Set Group Alternative  to none.
If you have subtitle, or multi subtitle, make sure set Group Alternative to 2 for all subtitle, or 1 if the Audio Stream is none Group.
Add chapter if you wish, chapter should after subtitle streams.
Insert the title and cover as wish and others metadata as you wish
Save as m4v. Check both 64 bit if your file ouput was bigger than 2GB.
    Optimize the m4v.
Please donate to the subler if it useful.
For option 3: Re-encode with Handbrake take long hours
Clear enough. With Handbrake you must re-encode the whole movie, but you can mux the soft subtitle also.

  • Email Photo option Greyed out in Loupe View in Library Module on Mac in Lightroom 5.7.1

In Lightroom 5.7.1 on Mac OX X Yosemite, when in the Library module, in Grid View the option to Email photo is available; however, when in the Loupe View, the Email Photo menu option is greyed out.  I have seen this question posted on the web and there are no answers anywhere.  Please address this issue as soon as possible since this appears to bug.

    Hey Scott,
After expermienting extensively (well relatively speaking), I found that hardware wise, there needs to be a AC3 decoder on the end where the audio is being sent. And without that chip there the AC3 option won't work weather or not you can get it showing. Our interfaces don't have this AC3 option so theoretically speaking we would have to create/purchase an AC3 to Analogue converter, and take the outs to our monitors/inputs of our interfaces. There seems to be no easy hardware or software work around, because even if the software workaround were to get the AC3 option available it seems that it sends the AC3 option out over the SPDIF/ADAT connection meaning the software didn't really convert it it just made it possible to send the signal. So I didn't have any luck. In the end it seems you need a AC3 decoder/DA converter to 5.1 out which they sell but not at a reasonable price. Hope I was of "informative" assistance, if not any actual help towards solving the problem.

  • How do you convert audio to ac3 in DVD SP 4 without a.pack

how do you convert audio to ac3 in DVD SP 4 without a.pack
    thanks
    Josh

NO. If you let DVDSP make your encoding you'll get uncompressed audio (AIFF/PCM) what means most probably high bitrate issues during building/playback and a lot of the space of your disc.

  • Converting AAC 5.1 to AC3 5.1

What software would i need free would be best to convert AAC 6 channel to AC3 5.1?
My receiver wont decode the AAC and so when i play movies over my ATV2 it turns the 6 channels into 2.
    Thanks

I have the same problem. I am not able to figure out a way to make ATV2 play AAC 6 channel in surround mode. I have it connected to AV Receiver via HDMI.

  • Converting .wav to .ac3

    Hi Everyone,
I have a stereo mix and a 5.1 mix from a pro mix session and I'm trying to determine the proper way to convert them to AC3 files.
The stereo mix consists of two separate .wav files. How can I convert them to a single .ac3 without altering anything that was done during the mix? I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I've searched the forums and the Compressor User Manual, and I can't seem to find the answer.
The only way I could seem to combine the files in compressor was by using the add surround sound button and manually placing the Lt and Rt channels and then dropping the dolby 2.0 profile on it. I wasn't sure though if by using the surround sound area that I was harming the integrity of the mix.
For the 5.1 files, which are all properly tagged (i.e Lf, Ls, C, etc.) in the filenames, do I use the add surround sound to assign the channel? This one seems pretty clearly explained in the manual, except that I'm using .wav files.
Thank you in advance for your help. Sorry if these are dumb questions!
    Michael

The converted file will be saved to the same folder the original file is in. You have to delete the original if you don't want it, there's no setting to have iTunes automatically delete it. Party shuffle isn't a folder it's just a playlist of sorts, it's made up of various songs that are in your library.

  • Convert AAC to AC3?

I have HTPC connected with HDMI to AV Receiver and then it's HDMI out connects to TV.
On my HTPC I have few .mvk and .mp4 files that have AAC 5.1 sound tracks, however I have a problem to sent them over through my AV receiver. Whenever I try to play a movie with AAC 5.1 track, it always breaks up once in a while... plays a bit and then breaks up for few seconds or a minute and then plays again...
Can I convert AAC to AC3? So that my HTPC doesn't have to do it on the fly.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to.  While I hate to give cryptic answers, the best I can suggest is to do some research into using ffmpeg and/or mencoder.  Probably either of these programs could do it, but if you can only go with one then my vote's with ffmpeg.
I can't be any more specific, sadly.  Both programs are a little hardcore for me, and the best I can do without a reference is ripping audio out of a video file (creating an mp3).
You might be able to get away with using Handbrake or something if ffmpeg / mencoder seem daunting.  It's worth a look, in any case.

  • Convert DTS to AC3

I have a MKV movie that has DTS for audio, however, my TV only supports MP3 or AC3 for audio playback. Does anyone know how to extract the audio from the file, convert it to AC3, then reattach it to the MKV file?
    Thank you.

you need to select the audio clip in the window, under the import window, after it is imported and then below that it will change and instead of seeing the video options you will see the audio options. check the box that says downconvertDTS. You should understand that there is now DTS decoder for the mac and if you are going to use these on your PS3/360 you will need to take that demuxed file to a pc to convert to an AC3 or ACC file for use in an .M2TS file. email me if you have further problems. Don't upgrade to Snow leopard it breaks TSmuxer

What can I use to easily convert ac3 files to open in Quicktime?

    Thanks Colin,
Immediately after posting I found mACdec and am converting a file as we speak. The file was stripped from a VOB. If StreamClip will extract straight from the VOB file this could save me a step in the future, I'll give it a try.
