AC3 Channel Viewer?

Hello everybody,
So I'm making my first foray into 5.1  encoding. It's a personal project, and I received the 6 discreet stems  from my sound vendor. I purchased the AC3 encoder license for Adobe CS5  and I've now encoded the file. Does anybody know of a software analysis  tool which will show me my 6 encoded channels either as waveforms or in  some other fashion? I'd like to look at this thing and see if it 'looks'  right. I know at the vendor there was an audio vector scope thingy  which showed all six channels and you could see the lights flashing  toward the L,C,R,Lfe,LS and Rs vectors. Anything like that availabe in  software?
Mostly for curiosity sake, I guess. But curious I am.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

Chris,
I just saw this post - been gone a bit lately - sorry.
In PrPro, one has several devices to help you, but mainly with Levels.
In Adobe Audition, one has a pretty full range of Scopes, and for your 6-channel mix, you'd want to be in Multi-track Mode.
Hope that helps,
Hunt
PS - also remember that you will be unable to monitor the 6-channel Audio in En. It will only Burn the DD AC3 in pass-through mode. All monitoring will need to be done in PrPro, or a program, like Audition.

  • How to get discrete AC3 channels with sblive

When playing DVD movies or DIVX video with AC3 sound I get all the channels mixed in stereo. When choosind four speaker configuration there is no sound from surround channels and in my rear speakers I hear the same channels than in my front speakers. I can get discerete AC3 channel playback even with my Realtek onboard sound, I cannot believe I could not do the same with the much more powerfull SBli've 5..

    Cdbular,
How are your speakers connected to your SBLi've!? If you are connected using a digital coax connecter then you will need to set up your system to do SPDIF bypass. Here is an article that explains what you will get from this kind of connection:

  • Labview DAQ channel viewer doesn´t view to much

    Hi, heeelp please
I´m starting to bealive in goblins.
I have a Pci-6013, and did a university proyect using also NiDAQ 6.9.3 and Labview 6.1 eval. I tried mi code in a modern amd 2600 pc and worked fine.
Then i installed it in a Shuttle SKG1, for the cybernetic fountain (my proyect, a photo is attached, working, with the old good new computer, by the Shuttle, almost not to be seen) to be more nice. But i couldn´t get it to work, since the simple Write to digital line.vi wouldn´t get to work; LabView doesn´t read the channels i had previously configurated in the MAX explorer. When i go to tools, Data Acquisition, Daq Channel Viewer i get to see other channels i didnt configurate, like sine, or temperature.
In the Amd 2600 normal computer the problem doesn´t arise, when i go to the Channel Viewer i get to see my channels. Well, i´m in troube, since i need it to work eather in the Shuttle or in an old Pentium II, in which the same probem arises. What do have a Shuttel and a Pentium II old computer (eaven with Isa slots, besides the Pci slots) in common against a normal Amd 2600 in an Asus board in common for it to do such a thing.
Any hinch on the topic would be by this time very much apreciated.

It is not really clear where you see what in MAX.
If you have developed and tested your program and configured the channels on the AMD PC you have to do the following:
Open MAX, select File>>Export and go through the wizard to export the NI-DAQ configuration. You will get a file. Copy this file to the target machine. There open MAX and select File>>Import. Select the file you have copied. Then you should see your channels in MAX and your application should work.

  • Using channel view, how to periodically log a single record to file

I don't have a problem logging data from nican 2, but I can't figure out how to grab a single 1-dimensional array at a user selected interval and write it to a spreadsheet file.

    Hi Mike,
This seems more like LabVIEW programming, than CA N communication. I assume you are getting your CAN data using the Channel API CAN Read.vi using the Multi-Channel Multi-Sample data type.
You need to retrieve the single channel data for the 2D array. You can use the index array VI in the Array function palette.
With a 1D array you can then use the Array to Spreadsheet file VI in the File I/O function palette. This VI also accepts a 2D array to log all the information.
A good resource for this type of questions is the LabVIEW support site. Click on LabVIEW Tutorials and Example Code >> Fundamentals. You'll find links to tutorials and examples for File I/O and Array and clusters.
    Hope this provides some help.

  • ? Selecting 2 of 3 RGB channels in to adjust in Levels

This is a CS4 question (and let me express my ingratitude to Adobe for dropping support for an $1800 set of apps).
In Photoshop CS4, using a G5 (non-Intel), in the Channels view panel (alongside Layers, etc), when it is displaying RGB, Red, Green, and Blue I am able to shift-click, on say, the Red and Blue channels to sleect only those two. The image still displays in full RGB. When I issue command-L (Levels) I end up with the basic Levels disalog box, and instead of it choosing by default "RGB" for adjusting, I now have "RB" and I can adjust Red and Blue together with the sliders, avoiding the green channel. I can do this in, obviously, three combinations.
For some reason, when I try this same thing on a friend's Intel Mac with Photoshop CS4 (same!), shift-clicking the Red and Blue channels in the Channels palette chooses them but the image display now displays without the Green channel influencing the image, thus rendering it unusable for adjusting two channels at once.
I figure that since I am using the same App version on each Mac, maybe there is a setting somewhere I cannot find, or I am forgetting a step on the way to my friend's computer.
Q: How do I choose 2 channels in the Channels palette while still having my image display in full color, and also be able to choose those two channels for adjustment in the Levels?
For those of you who are wondering WHY I would want to adjust 2 channels at once, here's an example: an image looks lsightly too yellow, bt ther eis no yellow channel. Yellow is full Red & Green, so, using my method, I can choose both those channels, and reduce the yellow by reduing R and G together.

You should be able to shift click the red and blue channels, then make the rgb composite visible (make the EYE visible by clicking in that box)

  • Problem to get all channel work

I am designing a system to read temperature using SCXI1000,SCXI1100,SCXI1303,type T Thermocouple, and Labview7. The problem is that I want to use 9 channels, but only one works ( channel 0)when doing a test on the channels using MAX. I am wondering why that happen. Is it a hardware problem, configuration etc....Please give me an idea what may happen.

You do not have a hardware or software problem. When you use an SCXI chassis, all the channels are mutiplexed through channel 0 of your DAQ card. You will not be able to view any of the channels by merely referencing channel 0 using the Test Panel function.
You could use one of the SCXI-1100 example VIs that ship with LabVIEW, or, you could consider using Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) to create virtual channel names. This will serve several purposes:
    1) It provides uniques names for each channel
    2) It simplifies the channel call syntax during acquisition (you would use T0,T1,T2... instead of ob0!sc1!md1!0:8
    3) It provides a means to output reduced temeprature data directly without writing a VI for data reduction
    4) The temperature readings will alread
y be referenced to the cold junction on the 1303 module, and,
    5) You will be able to use the channel viewer within MAX to view all of the temperature readings.
To create a virtual channel name, launch MAX. Under the Configuration tree (LHS window) RIGHT mouse click (RMC) on the Data Neighborhood entry and select >> Create New...
In the pop-up window, select Virtual Channel and press the finish button. Now follow the Channel Wizard prompts to create the virtual channel. Choose any name you like for this first channel. Once completed, you can go back to the Configuration tree, RMC on the channel name and select "Duplicate...". It will create muliple copies and assign them sequential names and assign them to sequential channels on the 1303 module. Once you have finished, you can view the channels using MAX. If you Select TEST on the top menu bar, a window will be launched that will allow you to view the reduced temperature readings.

  • Photoshop not presenting alpha channel as expected (like I'm seeing GIMP does)

    Greetings,
I have a need to edit the channels independently (the values in my image mean things numerically rather than just what it looks like visually - so I need to edit the grayscale values in each of the R - G - B - and A channels seperately).
I've searched through google and other forum posts and others bring up the concept of not understanding alpha versus transparency - but I have yet to see an explanation that fully explains what I'm experiencing.
The closest was http://forums.adobe.com/message/2563436#2563436 But while I saw the exact same symptoms being described, the specific question was never really answered.
Hopefully, a concrete example with pictures will be able to communicate the issue and solicit a useful explanation and/or solution.
While, I'm specifically working with an RGBA image, below is a screenshot of a PNG that demonstrates the exact same behavior or symptom.  The screenshot below represents the PNG inside GIMP and PS CS4.  BTW, if you'd like to see or play with the image yourself, you can grab the same image at http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/img_png/imgcomp-440x330.png
GIMP, interestingly enough loads the PNG as expected - I see the transparency of the image treated as a true alpha channel.
In PS CS4 however, the transparency seems to be somehow embedded in the Red - Green - and Blue channels; but NO seperate alpha channel.
I can create the alpha channel through Select - Load Selection - Layer 0 Transparency - and pasting that into a newly created alpha channel - but the color channels still have the transparency mixture symptom - rather than showing the JUST the color component of that channel.  (Note the channel differences of the GIMP's Red Channel versus PS's Red Channel  - Said in another way, the yellow ball in the upper left of the image should have a red value of 255, so the Red Channels grayscale upper left ball should be white like it is in GIMP, rather than Gray as it is in PS).
I never thought I'd experience GIMP being superior to Photoshop - so hopefully somebody can shed light on what is going on - what configuration I may have myself in - or a process to get the channels seperated out in the manner I wish to work with them.   Furthermore, maybe somebody can educate the Photoshop community what the difference between transparency and alpha[transparency] is.  I haven't found quite the right explanation that makes the light go off in my head yet.  As best as I have gleened "Alpha", which can be applied to any kind of channel, typically is in reference to transparency - and is applied as a document-whole transparency (as opposed to transparencies applied at a layer level - such as a layer mask).

I think I've finally determined that modern Photoshops have gone in a different direction that I feel "Alpha" should be done.
    (good or bad).
Here are the steps and/or details of how I arrived at that conclusion.
If nothing else this has been very educational on how Photoshop treats alpha.
    - Import your alpha'd PNG with SuperPNG format (see above on how to make sure you use the SuperPNG plugin to load the .png).
    - In the SuperPNG dialog select "Alpha appears as seperate channel"
    - Create a layer from the Background and Delete the original Background
(since the Background is locked and we can't edit the Background - we want to add a layer mask based on the alpha)
    - Ctrl-Left Select the "Alpha 1" channel - Ctrl-C - and hit the "Add Layer Mask" button (square with the circle at the bottom of the LAYERS rollout)
    - For this demo and clarity, I went ahead and deleted the alpha "Alpha 1" that came in through the SuperPNG plugin
So now I have the Layers like I kindof expected the main document to just come in as (kindof though - it is presented in a Layer Mask rather than Alpha Channel).
What is interesting - which you'll see if you toggle the layer mask on and off
(shift-click the mask thumbnail in the layer)
Note how the thumbnails in the channel views render differently during the toggle.
When the mask is off you see the individual color channels like I expect - black where there is an absence of that color.
However when you enable the layer mask - the individual color channels show in semi-transparent/checkerboard.
So this is exactly how the color channels are presented when loading in a .png (WITHOUT the SuperPNG plugin) or an .rgba
..you get the semitransparent views of the color channels - BUT the difference is - you have no way to directly see or edit the Alpha channel.
nor are the color channels represented as completely opaque versions.
What is really interesting - it is there though - if you Ctrl-Left Select the layer, Ctrl-C, and "Add Channel Mask" - you'll get the Alpha mask.
    HOWEVER, the big issue is that you can't toggle or edit the Color-Channels like the Layer counterpart above;
they are ALWAYS the semitransparent/checkboard version;  AND now we basically are double applying transparency
(due to the still embedded alpha/transparency AND the newly create "Alpha 1" channel)
I think this a bug (or a poor reimplementation of modern Photoshop releases; I believe older Photoshops used to break out Alpha in the "arguably correct" way - and in fact the way GIMP currently does).
Or maybe there are other explanations - like abstracting some of this complexity away from less advance users, etc?
So the SuperPNG plugin was useful in experimenting, understanding, and demonstrating what is going on.
However, if I'm trying to read in .rgba directly, I don't think I have a way of making the "Alpha appear as a seperate channel" as I think any image with "alpha" component should.
    (png, tiff, rgba, etc).

  • No more time on STB...Just last channel #.

I've lost the time on the set top boxes. It returns in the morning, but as soon as the TV is used, that's it for the day. Only the last channel viewed is displayed.
Also... am now getting a " Not Subscribed" message on FX-HD 553.
Also... Why am I still on hold with Cust. Serv.??  47 minutes and counting... but they are happy I called and appreciate my patients.

The "time" issue is a setting on the set top box that you can control using your verizon remote control.

  • I've Lost My Stereo Out Channel Strip

Some how I've lost my stereo out channel strip and can no longer hear my tracks. I see the levels moving when I play. I no longer see the vertical seconds lines in my main work area, nor can I deselect a track by touching the gray background. On the channel viewer on far left at the very bottom is a speaker with red X and "no out" marking. Using Logic Express. What wrong button did I push ? Here is a screen shot http://galleries.tomsalyer.com/picture%201.png Thanks in advance.

Ok, replaced the strip, thanks ! Also, somehow I had managed to unclick the " Input 1-2 " and "Stereo Out" buttons on all six track's channel strips, and once
I fixed those, I now can hear my output again.Don't know how I messed up, but will be careful in future ... they say you can't teach an old photographer new tricks, but am determined to learn audio

  • [SOLVED] Intel 7260 Vaio can't connect to wifi

    Hi there,
First off, I should mention that I know my way around Linux but I'm pretty new to Arch, so there might be things that I know that don't apply here.
So, I have this problem with this network, I can't connect to it and frankly I don't know why. I was on Ubuntu until a few days ago and I still had the problem. I posted on the Ubuntu forum >>here<< and I was told to upgrade, but as I've been willing to move to Arch for quite some time, I thought that was maybe the time. BUT, the problem is still there, which worries me.
To sum it up, about one or two weeks ago, I was connecting fine to this network (ZyXEL) and then after a reboot, no way to connect to it, no matter what I try. I have noticed an error message that keeps coming back all the time (see below) and the wifi indicator in i3status sometimes flashes me with an IP while I'm trying to connect then eventually the network disappears (not with wicd, only nm). Those are basically the symptoms.

I have had troubles with the wifi in the past (from what I read on the internet, this card is not yet fully supported everywhere) but nothing like this. Usually, disconnecting and reconnecting did the trick, sometimes I had to restart NetworkManager in extreme cases, but nothing more.
I tried a lot of things (modprobe, rfkill, firmware update, etc), rebooted everything I could but couldn't do anything. I have found bug reports and forums posts of similar problems but the solutions there either didn't work for me or the problem just seem to have disappeared for some people. I read that this card was not really supported before the kernel 3.11 or 3.13 but now I have 3.16 and it's still there. What's really bugging me is that I could successfully connect to this network a couple weeks ago...
On the Ubuntu forum, they have a script that displays useful information when posting about wireless problems. I have taken off the Ubuntu specific bits and I think this will save you some time asking me to run commands. One thing is not mentioned in the script: I use wicd.

I have the exact same problem, appeared completely random. I had several restarts this Christmas on the laptop, even after upgrades. I blamed the ath driver. But I noticed when I restart the router by plugging out it from the wall, then in again, sometimes it's working.
I carefully changed every possible settings in the router, then I found if I disable IPv6 (yes, it's capable of that despite Sky does not provide IPv6 service) it started to work even after multiple reboots. It took mi a while since the new year.
I'm using connman and when it was wrong, connman was completely frozen. If I entered "connmanctl scan wifi", it never quit. Same for "connmanctl state".
I also noticed that the router LED was blinking continuously and on the laptop when I checked the connection status with ifconfig it showed very high usage of TX packets. It also blocked the whole wifi, so my phone was not able to access the internet. Strange problem, I'm unsure what caused it and not quite sure how disabling IPv6 solved it. But I'm also afraid that maybe somewhere else I can't disable IPv6 on the router.

  • How do I select a color range like in Photoshop OR copy/move a layer into the mask of another layer?

    Hi there,
I'm trialling Photoshop Elements and wanting to use a black and white (grey scale) layer that I've made as a mask in another layer and don't know how to do it in Elements.  In Photoshop, I'd do this (there maybe a better way in PS to do it, but I haven't discovered it yet)...
Click the layer i've created that I intend to use as a mask
    Select All
    Copy
select layer that I want the mask to be applied to
click the Add Layer Mask button (at the bottom of the Layers window)
click the mask icon so it is highlighted (and the image isn't)
    switch to Channels view
highlith the Layer Mask beneath the R,G,B layers and make it visible
    Paste
    make it invisible again
    switch back to layers.
This works and retains the full range of transparency for semi transparency and soft edges of the mask etc.
Alternatively, I can select a Color Range, but that doesn't seem to be available in PS Elements.
So, how do I achieve the same result in PS Elements?
    Thanks for your help
    Jonno

Perfect!   Thanks very much R_Kelly.  That does exactly what I was hoping to do.
    Cheers

  • 5.1 sound issues

    Hello,
i have an board with an intel z68 chipset and connected the analog 5.1 audio signal to my speakers.
when i listen to music in amarok everything is fine. when i mute the rear spekers in alsamixer they are muted, so everything is right assigned.
but when i run "speker-test -c 6" or play an 5.1 ac3 file in mplayer (mplayer audio.ac3 -channels 6), i hear the sound for the rear speakers in the front speakers. all other channels stay soundless...
does anybody have an idea what is wrong with my config?

So the first question is, WTF is your stupid KDE doing? (Hehe, I don't use KDE.)
If you want to use surround71, then get it defined in your ~/.asoundrc, just like e.g. surround51 - to redirect to "dmixed", and then change "dmixed" to be 8 channels rather than 6. Otherwise, of course, you're not using dmixed and it's not surprising that you have a problem.
But that would be wrong - you need to get KDE to be correct, using 5.1 which is correct for your hardware.
Is KDE butting into the sound-outputting game, and messing it up? I hear it likes to do that.

  • Video for progressive download - workflow works for CS3 but not CS4

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong with the new Flash CS4.
When I used Flash CS3 I would use the following steps to create a Flash video to view online:
Make a folder for all flash content
In the folder I put the "video".flv file encoded from Quick Time
    Import the "video".flv into flash
Save the .fla with the same "video" name
    Test the movie
    Publish settings using the defaults
    Save the flash document
I could send the folder (minus the .fla) to the webmaster to store on the server and then he could point to the "video".swf file and the video would play.
This doesn't work with CS4. I only get a green and white progress bar on the player controls with no video. I assume this means the swf can't find the flv, but they're in the same folder, and I thought the path would hold within a folder. I can't even move the folder to another computer and play the video there. It will only work on the computer where I created the files. I would appreciate any help anyone could offer. I've had to go back to Flash CS3 to correct a mistake in a previously finished video. Thanks in advance.

I did add the gaussian blur to it. Exactly like in the tutorial, I copied his steps in the video exactly, even put the exact same percentage of blur on both the alpha 1 copy and alpha 1 copy 2.   both even looked exactly like his after each blur was placed.     4.5% on copy 1,   8.2% on copy 2.   after this it all looks just like the instructors.        its when the 2 channels are combined and it is filled with black that mine looks different.   his comes out with the design white on a black background in channel view, and mine came out black with whit outline on black background on the channels.  I even tried filling with  white instead of black and that does not work either.
I follow the steps in the video exactly and everything matches up to that one step, if anyone has cs4 maybe they could play with a simple flat shape and try the steps and see if they get a flat outcome as well,     or is it possible my version of cs4 has a bug?

  • Red Secondaries

    Hi
I'm having a real hard time figuring something out. I can do most things I want to do in Speedgrade, but my secondaries get my way frustrated.
When I apply a secondary layer, it all seems fine, until I start touching any dials and sliders, in which case the entire layer turns red. This isn't related to picking the colour red or the colour/gray mode, the whole picture literally turns red, like the attached picture.
I've searched high and low and asked folks on twitter, but I can't get an answer as to why this is happening, nor is there any way I can get rid of it but to delete the secondary layer.
Your help would be greatly appreciated, as I've wasted a lot of time trying to figure this out.
    Thanks
EDIT> I saw an earlier post on the forum I hadn't noticed before. The solution is in the channel views under Timeline which should be set to normal.

  • L9 does not show my MPC (and other) Groove Templates?!

    hey all
When i open a project from L8 (that had all my groove quantizes on it) in L9, they do not show
    any ideas?

OK, open a new blank project in the arrange page, If you have a standard temple, pull this up. Go to the media browser and select one of the files to be converted, do this one at a time ( i.e. MPC then ASQ etc. )
Pull the file onto the arrange page on an instrument channel, select the whole thing, go to the top of the inspector window, at the top you'll see quantise, scroll down till you see "make groove template" and select it.
Now if you've done it right the grooves should appear in the quantise window at the top of the piano roll window.
Step 2: Select the midi part you've just converted to grooves, Right ( cntrl ) click/pack folder. On the channel it's sitting on, select it to be no output, lock the channel ( View/ configure track header... protect, when the padlock appears in the track thing at the side click the padlock, it'll turn green )
repeat as above till all the grooves appear in your quantize.
Step three, save as template, save as Autoload.logic ... overwrite.
This will now be permanent for all of your new projects.
    Happy days.
