AC3 decoding on Audigy SE ca

Hi!
I just recently bought a Soundblaster Audigy SE card + a 'Digital I/O module' in order to get SPDIF input capability, I thought.
My HTPC-setup is very "special":
The HTPC uses the TVEdia (www.8dim.com)software with a RealMagic XCard which outputs the video stream as svideo to my CRT television, and all audio may be output by the TVEdia software as an AC3 stream using the external SPDIF connector on the XCard card
(previously I have been using the alternate stereo only output on the XCard card feeding my TV directly).
My intention was to use the coaxial AC3/ SPDIF output from the XCard card and input it into the newly installed Audigy SE card using the 'Digital I/O module', have the AC3 stream decoded by the Audigy SE card, or decoded in software, and then output as 5. sound using the 3 mini-jack output connectors on the Audigy SE card to my Logitech X-540 speakers.
This was meant to be an "interim"-solution before buying a proper receiever with AC3/DTS decoding capabilities.
However, I do not seem to be able to setup the Audigy SE card to perform AC3 decoding, neither in hardware nor does there seem to be any Creative-software based solution for achieving this on the Audigy SE card?
Is this correctly observed?

The decoding is done in software on all the cards. Allegedly the X-Fi has some hardware assist, but nobody's actually done any tests to prove that there's actually a reduction in CPU utilisation.
The reason the Audigy 2 ZS also supports DTS is because Creative has licensed DTS decoding on their cards and for every Audigy 2 ZS/X-Fi sold they pay DTS as well as Dolby a per unit fee. The reason the older cards don't support DTS is because they would have to pay an additional fee for every card already sold, which they don't really want to do.

  • AC3 Decoding on Audigy 2ZS sol

A couple of months ago I posted about my troubles with getting AC3 decoding to work with the internal decoder of my Audigy 2ZS.
I've reinstalled windows 5 times and the audio software 6 times. I've moved the card between all available PCI slots in my computer, I've checked both the BIOS and windows for any possible shared IRQs or other hardware conflicts, I've checked for DMA issues.
I've tried a fresh install of XP with just the drivers, then the last driver updates and finally with a fully setup system.
I've tried WMP0 with both AC3filter and ffdshows internal filter, MPC 6.4.8.4, PowerDVD 5.0 and nVIDIAs PureVideo Decoder .02.50.
In any and all cases enabling s/pdif output in the software and using the internal decoder the sound output is filled with heavy stutter and sometimes disappears completely.
Using software decoding works fine though.
I've been through 4 week of correspondance with Creative customer support, who have shown great perseverance but in the end haven't been able to help with my problem.
Deem my surprise then when I chose to try out the 80 day trial of Windows XP Pro x64 and the AC3 decoding worked flawlessly in all players.
Well, xcept for nVIDIAs PureVideo Decoder that BSODs under x64 but that's a different issue.
Considering my rather exhausti've testing I'm firmly convinced this is a problem with the .84.xx drivers, especially since a friend of mine with a different hardware setup have the very same problems.
If any of you should suffer from a similar problem as mine I can't really say that this is a good "fix", specially if you don't have a 64bit processor, but I did work for me.
Maybe it's time to check out what the 2.03.004 x64 drivers do differently, hmm?
    My rig:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Winchester)
    Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra SLI

  • AC3 decoding with Audigy 2 ZS - for DivX mov

I have Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card installed. When I try to watch a DivX movie with AC3 sound, I am not getting Dolby output, ie 5. output, only 2. output. I am using Media Player Lite. I even configured Media Player Lite for 5. ouptut, but no result.
I installed AC3 filter (http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/) hoping that it would work. When I check wih AC3 filter control panel, it showed my Bit streaming output as + Dual mono, not 5. (3 front, 2 rear).
With the sound card diagnostics, speakers are working fine. Creative player is working fine with songs, all 5. output, but this is not happening with DivX movies.
Please help, how can I enable 5. with AC3 filter for DivX movies.

Maybe your divx are not in ac3 in the first place.

  • Decode AC3 Dolby with Audigy ZS or Inspire 5500 digita

Hello, i need your advice, I have Sound Blaster Audigy ZS and Inspire 5500 Digital,
which best to Decode AC3 (6 Channels)
    decode with Audigy or Inspire?
    Thanks

    arturjose,
You should have the sound card bypass the AC3 signal to the speaker for decoding. Remember to also have the DVD software setup to SPDIF bypass the AC3 signal.

  • Audigy 2 AC3 decoder level trouble

    Hi everybody.
As you know, the Adg2 ZS card can decode AC3 and DTS using SPDIF output when playing DVD's. With many discs, like LOTR - The two towers at the fall of Gandalf scene for example, I can hear strange noises when output level raises too much. But it is with "Laura?Pausini?Li've from San Siro" when this problem gets unstandable. I can notice, that the recording level of the Dolby Digital track, is too loud compared with most of comercial musical and cinema DVD, and when output level reaches high points, I can hear a lot of crackle and nosises.
I'm afraid that this is due to the fact that the hardware decoder cannot handle the (sometimes) extrem sound signal input. I'm using Purevideo from nVidia and I've tried to pull down the digital volume control. I've tried with -35dB for example, but it doesn't seem to work.
    Any help?

The reason for the crackling phenomenon is that the frequency gain has exceeded a threshold thus causing clipping to take place. A workaround will be enabling SVM on your Audigy Console. However, enabling this will have the effect of reducing the audio dynamics.
Is there another way to workaround for the clipping/peaking?

  • DTS, AC3 Decoding Audigy 2Zs or PowerDV

    Hello All,
    Q. according to creative the Audigy2Zs has Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, but does anyone know if this is hardware or software decoding.
Q2. I have Powerdvd 6 deluxe with all the audio packs. Do you disable the Audigy2zs decoder or keep it on. Double the juice twice the power!?
    regards,
    AL

    (Q) Apparently it is HARDWARE decoding.
    (Q2)
Case : If you disabled DVD software decoding ("S/PDIF Out") and enabled your soundcard's AC-3 / DTS decoders, your soundcard will be responsible for AC-3 / DTS decoding.
Case 2: If you enabled DVD software decoding of AC-3 / DTS, then the DVD audio data will already be decoded into surround sounds before sending to your soundcard. In this case, your soundcard will ALWAYS receive uncompressed surround sounds, and there is NO DIFFERENCE in enabling / disabling your soundcard's AC-3 / DTS decoders.
"Twice the power won't double the juice."

  • AC3 Decod

Does anyone know if the audigy 2 card can decode AC3. Its not a audigy 2 zs or anything just plain audigy 2, it came installed on a dell computer. I was under the assumption that it did decode by the way it was advertised. If it does, how do you turn it on. When I play DVDs through my computer, I can't get any sound unless I turn the software (powerdvd, WMP) decoding on.

    tvsmts,
Often pre-installed card(OEM) have revision that's different from the retail one. If it's a retail Audigy 2, the option should be in Control Panel -> AudioHQ -> Device Controls.

  • Live! 24-bit - disabling onboard AC3 decod

I have read that in order to hook up my computer to my home theater 5. system (a receiver that decodes AC3), I need two things: a mono minijack-RCA (coaxial) adapter, and to disable the onboard decoder.
I have the adapter, and the drivers installed from the packaged disc (there are none available from the website that I could find), but I cannot find where to disable the onboard decoder, so I am only getting 2. through my receiver.
The I/O module seems to provide the same solution as the adapter - optical and coaxial connections directly, but does it then encode the signal again or somehow disable it on the card?
I previously had the Li've! Platinum with the Li'veDri've bay, but even when connecting the coaxial connection from there to the receiver, I was still only getting 2.. I also could not disable the onboard decoder on that card either - the Decoder tab or whatever from the AudioHQ program was not there.
I upgraded to the Li've 24-bit in hope that this would be easier.

    Jeremy,
You are right. The DVD I was using to test did not have much rear sound - but I also selected Use SPDIF output in PowerDVD and maybe that helped. I am now getting true 5. from DVDs.
However, it seems to be only 3. (left, right, center, sub) in games, for example in Half Life 2's sound test, even though the speakers setting is set to 5.. And the Creative Speaker Setting application's channel and noise test only plays in the left and right.
Music files come through in simulated 5..
Any ideas how to get 5. in games?

  • AC3 Decode

I must be missing something because I am unable to decode ac3 files in Compressor 2.
    Anyone? Anyone?

A.pack will do this too. However, Compressor has supposedly supplanted A.pack.
What I'm trying to do is to quality check the ac3 files I created in Compressor? I need to convert the ac3 back to pcm to ensure the dialnorm was applied as it should and the downmix was created correctly according to the metadata applied to the file. I shouldn't need to go back to A.pack to do this.

  • NO DTS/AC3 Decode DVD-A Full Software in vi

and X-FI EP costs me HK$30XX?should i back to XP?Very disappointed to creative

DVD-Audio never worked totally proper for me anyway through creatives driver. It was slightly better with Intervideo's WinDVD but not totally stable. Using Power DVD in Windows Vista & it works proper & is totally stable. All this to say the DVD-Audio feature in the Creative drivers was mostly a joke anyway. Get Power DVD. It works good for Wiondows Vista.

  • Pops sounds when Decoding AC3 with audigy

Hi, i want to make audigy zs decode ac3, doing the following:
in powerdvd 6 , i set to spdif out, and in audigy "use internal decoder" is enabled, it works fine with dts decoding, but with ac3 there's pops sounds during loud scenes, if i enable "dynamic range compress" in AudioHQ, the pops sounds disapears but the dynamic range is gone too, something i don't want because i really want to enjoy that sound.
Is there a way to listen the wide range sound of AC3, i mean with dynamic range enable without the pops sounds that produce when decoding ac3 with audigy zs?
someone has tried this or there's no chance to do it at all!

Well, a think all of you are not telling the truth, because you dont' even test it in the scene i mention(Lord of thr rings)
For you to know, there's movies that there's no pops sounds at all, like the original star wars trilogy, shrek , no problem, but in LOTR trilgy there's a problem.
Now for BigBen he said something different in:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=3043&quer y.id=4735#M3043
In that forum, i had and old computer Pentium III 500 MGHZ, that didnt,t work anything, Dvd audio, dts, ac3 decoding. nothing.
    I tried all and nothing.
finally i gave in, and bought another cpu because maybe it was an issue of the mother card,
i bought a Compaq DeskPro En(Pentium III 000MGHZ). now all the problems i had before are gone, except for the pops sounds in Ac3 decoding in LOUD SCENES, now this is common problem for most users, now if you say you don't have, well try lord of the rings Trilogy, Return of the king!

  • Audigy 2 Platinum Pro stutters when decoding from AC3 via ffds

    hi all
i am playing a movie with ac3 soundtrack on it.
    My Configuration:
    Audigy 2 Platinum Pro->AudioHQ->Hardwarecontrol (ger?testeuerung in German)->->Digital Input->Dolby Digital/SPDIF-In-Decoding
->Decoder->use installed Decoder->all settings enabled for Digital EX and DTS ES.
ffdshow->AC3 passthrough to SPDIF and DTS passthrough to SPDIF
I have 6. Analog Speakers connected. (Creative Set)
Problem: Audio stutters like hell !!
Since i also have HTPC (HomeCinema PC) configured with a external decoder, i know the file is ok, and its with all files. on my HTPC i have AC3 Passthrough (SPDIF passthrough if you like) and the decoder (Denon AVR) shows Digital In detected and decodes properly.
Well know to my PCs configuraton where the Audigy should make the decoding. As i play the file, regardless what programm (VLC, Media Player/Classic, InterVideo WinDVD) it shows me the Dolby Digital icon in the lower right screen as i start the movie, so it realizes the Digtial Audio, but why doesnt it decode it properly??

"problem now is, repack decodes all streams as dolby even if its mp3, and very funny, it only works with normal media player, media player classic has no audio anymore".
repack ? I think you mean reclock. mmmh, your problem sounds like a really bad installation, which creates a complete mess in the filter graphs.
Since I'm one who insists on bulding his architectures around generic softwares only (mediaplayer 6.4 and 0 for example), I'll advise you to first uninstall FFDShow, every codecs and parsers installed, and every players too (except the windows integrated ones ) Allways avoid all-in-one solutions if you want a super-flexible and easy to maintain system.
When you've cleaned your system, you can install the codecs and parsers you need for each format. Be aware to configure each one to decode only its format). Avoid the codec pack which are just good to mess what should be a clean installation. Avoid AC3filter, the ac3 decoder from your installed DVD player will be sufficient if it has a good SPDIF option (powerdvd5 audio decoder for example). You might need in some case an XFormer for your ac3 streams http://inmatrix.osnn.net/ac3xform.exe . And don't forget reclock. That's all.
"well, clearly decoding on the PC is far more complex then running it through a external decoder."
Decoding with the PC is complete piece of cake, that's building a good PC with a good system that is not something everything can do with just instinct
"can i control audio buffer in ffd? (id rather be in control then repack, since repack crashes after every movie...)", I don't know, I decided years ago to avoid all-in-one solutions, and on top of all, FFDShow.
" the audigy doesnt do all the work, which is very astonishing and very disapointing..."
What do you mean ? It uses CPU when decoding ? My ZS do not.

  • Audigy 2 ZS decoding DTS performa

I have posted a message before to resolve IRQ conflicts, well it's done and audigy decoding is working well. although there's some out of Sync in the audio, when i pause, rewind, forward, skip a chapter, etc. this is solved changing in powerdvd from SPDIF to 6 channels, and 6 channels to SPDIF again.
if i watch the complete movie there's no problem at all, it's really amazing the sound that produces audigy decoding AC3 over powerdvd decoding.
The problem i have is with dts decoding, for the first two minutes it works normal(Woow it's even better than AC3, the playback is smooth and the sound Louder) , but then, it pauses, i have to stop and then play to continue, the strange thing is that this happen in different times such us: two minutes, 5 seconds or even fi've minutes.
This tests i did in Zoomplayer with SPDIF OUT using Powerdvd audio and video decoding.
In WinDvd i test the same thing but there were pauses too,but it continue automaticaly, i don?t have to do 'the stop and play' as with Zoomplayer.
I checked the CPU usage and it's an increment of the use of the cpu DTS decoding over AC3 decoding, maybe my Pentium III 500 hz doesn't support it.(cause there's some peaks of the 00% porcent usage, when decoding DTS in Audigy zs 2.
i also have tried accelarating(increment and OFF) hardware accelaration in both Nvidia card and Audigy zs 2 card. i have noticed some longer playback but at the end, it pauses anyway.
) What is the Best setup in hardware accelaration in both Nvidia video card and audigy sound card?
    2) What else do i have to setup to be able to see a complete movie with audigy DTS decoding without pauses.

I hate pumbing threads like this , but I really need an answer , DTS stutters but AC3 is perfect , I am also using reclock?in case somebody suggests it .

  • 5.1 AC3 output possible from avi (Audigy S

    OS: XP Pro SP2
DirectX latestI have an Audigy SE with Logitech speakers (X-530) connected (analog).
I get 5. sound out from my system using WinDVD 7 demo playing an original DVD.
Trying to play my backed up DVD (AVI) with 5. sound will however not work. I tried to useac3filter (all possible settings with 5. output)? as well as the Intervideo audio codec(which I?believed was exactly the same as was used in WinDVD) in Media player classic as wellas Zoomplayer. The 5. sound will play as stereo in the speakers. My questions are:
. CMSS should not necessarily be be enabled in order to play 5. sound, correct?
    2. CMSS used on the file above would merely play an upmixed stereo sound, correct?
    3. Has anyone ever been able to use an Audigy card to play 5. sound (analog out) correctly with or without CMSS enabled?
    4. If you can say yes on question three what decoder, player and settings did you use?I have searched the forum but have not been able to find straight anwers to these questions.
Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer to question , 2 and 3?is yes.
    I use WMP and with the XVID . and AC3filter .0a RC5 (beta)?codec.
Under General (in ac3 filter) I have SPDIF (disabled) ticked that will output it to creatives decoder
And under?system tab in AC3 filter?i have Use AC3 Filter for AC3 only ticked and the option next to it SPDIF passthrough i have AC3 option?ticked as well. (The output speaker settings in general?are not needed as since the card will do all the work).
In Creatives Control Panel under decoder I have Use Built in Decoder to use the AC3 decoding on The Card which i find is better.
Just Looked at the Audigy SE and it seems like it does not have an AC3 decoder. So the following settings will be of no use to you.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=2&s=2?(AC3filter .0a RC5) download this and try it with WMP as well.
    Do the following as well
In WMP goto Tools > Options > DVD > Advance button that would bring up AC3 filter options starting with General.
Under Output select 3/2+SW 5. Channel
Then Goto?system tab?tick the AC3 box under the options Use AC3 filter for.
Then play the movie and see if it plays or not.

hi, if i connect ddts-100 decoder with audigy 2 via digital out(coaxial), can i mix stereo sound to multichannel witch DTS 6 neo or Dolby Pro Logic II? and if i send via coaxial AC3(movie witch AC3 or music from winamp surround edition) sound ddts-100 recognize this signal and play at all channel?Message Edited by mariuszkom on 07-19-2007 10:41 PM

Yes and Yes. I've found that it sounds better though to simply copy the front channels to the rear, which neither of those matrix modes will do. Your best bet though is to get a sound card that does dolby digital li've encoding such as the auzentech xplosion or ht omega striker.
