Academic Superstore CS5.5 download not eligible for CS6 upgrade?

CS5 academic version was purchased directly from Adobe in 2010 and is registered in my Adobe account.
A recent email from an academic reseller about buying CS5.5 before May 6 in order to receive a free upgrade grabbed my attention. It's really looking like a situation of buyer beware. I opted for a download version which came with an activation code for immediate gratification.  But no serial number or product code was included.
I went through the steps to register with Adobe immediately after the installation on 4/30/12. Yesterday, out of curiosity, I checked my account at Adobe and did not see CS5.5 as being registered.  After much searching, it seems like the download version is not considered a valid purchase by Adobe.
When the Academic Superstore was contacted, they immediately resent the email that contained the download link and activation code.  In a follow up message, they "stated" that the serial number was sent in the previous message, but also to check junk mail in case it got filtered. (It was not.)
A screen grab from the Adobe Support portal with my name and address, with the request to enter the serial number was sent to the Academic Superstore. No response.
I paid for and received a product.   However, I can't help but feel like I was scammed as the Superstore did not make a distinction between the boxed version or download version.
I've already resigned my self... but do I have any options with Adobe or the Superstore?

Hi Jeff,
This is certainly useful information.
However, I didn't realize that downloaded versions with an activation code purchased from a reseller are not considered valid.  Academic Superstore did not send me a a key ingredient, a serial number, and have stopped responding to my concerns about receiving one from them.
I can't help but have the impression that this was an underhanded presentation of product on their part, e.g. there was no warning that the purchased download version would not be eligible for the CS6 upgrade.  Had I known, I would have purchased the boxed version.
Best regards,
WV

  • Can you trade in your iphone5 for the iphone 6 if you are not eligible for an upgrade?

I want to take advantage of the iphone trade in offer Verizon is offering, can I do this if I am not eligible for an upgrade yet?

    No.
Either wait it out for your upgrade time, or switch to a Verizon Edge plan (you have to turn in your iPhone 5 in lieu of ETF fees).
With Edge, you don't get anything in return for your phone, except out of your current contract.

I have an iphone4 and that I have had for four years and they are saying that I am not eligible for an upgrade until the end of July 2015. That is four years and 3 months after I purchased this phone. "Customer service" said I had an upgrade at the end of July 2013, which I did not. She said that in the system my husband took an upgrade July 29th 2013. He didn't even have a Verizon phone, he had a work phone with T-mobile. I have asked what device he supposedly upgraded to since no phones have been activated and we all still have our same phones and numbers. Remember at the time, said husband had a work phone with T-mobile. I still have the very same phone as do all of the rest of my family members. No one has upgraded. I spoke with "customer service" for more than a half an hour today, Char promised me that her supervisor (Emily) would call me back by 7:30 tonight to clear up this problem. Well guess what? No call back so where should I go from here? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

someone swapped upgrades.  Phone could have been sold For quick cash.

  • Discount pricing, but not eligible for an upgrade?

My dads phone doesnt have an upgrade untill 4/24/12, but yet it says hes eligible for a discount and when I call up they always say his line is eligible for an upgrade. What is this discount pricing and how does it work if he still doesnt have an upgrade for another half a year.

    xDanny wrote:
Alright, couple more questions, is there any benefit from using his NE2 upgrade in april 2012 over the discount annual upgrade? And also, could I steal his discount upgrade and use it for myself? I know alot of people who steal upgrades im just not sure they are the annual ones
The NE2 discount is an additional $30,$50, or $100 discount (the amount depends on your calling plan - you'll have to call Verizon to get this information) So if you wait until April 2012, your dad's line will have that additional discount to put towards a new phone.
You can't "steal" upgrades. All you really do is purchase the phone on the eligible line, and activate it on another one.
You can use his annual upgrade now if you want, just remember it will be the 2 year contract pricing + an additional $20 fee for upgrading early. Also remember that doing so will void any and all NE2 discount he may have.
If you use his upgrade now, make sure you activate the phone on HIS line first (since you will purchase it on his line, his contract is extended another 2 years, and you must accept the terms of service by activating it on his line) and then you can activate it on yours. This process goes for using anyone else's upgrade other than your own.

  • Cs5 serial number not allowed for cs6 upgrade?

    hello
I am trying to install CS6 Design Premium (via CD) and have CS5. However I am denied installation because my CS5 serial number is not allowed (it appears I must have CS5.5).  All phone lines are engaged. As well as frustrating, this would seem a very poor 'stealth' trick. I have countless registered Adobe copies going back years and saw no warning re this possibility prior to purchase. Is installing from CS5 impossible?

phew! I took your advice and after many dropped phone connections, I was able to speak to Prashant (Adobe service rep in India) who was able to take create a (temporary) support number for me to type in to the registration dialogue via the challenge code procedure. This appeared to bypass the registration dropdown issue and so allowed me to register... at last!
In retrospect I am very grateful for your help and my good fortune in being able to speak to Prashant who was able to fix the problem over the phone. However I suspect this problem may occur to others and the solution seems far from easy when long phone queues and dropped connections add to the tortuous minefield of what is simply meant to be a registration process!

  • Is there any way to purchase upgrade when PC is NOT eligible for free upgrade

    Hi...
I bought my pavilion dv5 1 month to soon to get the free upgrade... Now i'm wondering if HP gives the same upgrade option to people who want to upgrade and will pay for it... I know I can buy Windows 7 on a DVD, but there's no drivers on it, and I was told by HP support that the drivers from the HP download site might not work properly on a standalone Windows 7
So is there any way to get upgrade by paying for it... Maybe HP has some buyable upgrade kit?
    Sincerely
    DCNR

When HP has Windows 7 drivers available, they will certainly work with a conventional Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade version.

  • When you release a new phone you need to make sure than any updates you make for the old phones make them BETTER - Some of us are not eligible for the upgrades and until we are our old phones need to work just as good as they WERE working!!!!

Very dissapointed in the upgrades for the old phones

They can't support every phone forever. Eventually, the software gets to a point where it can no longer be handled by old hardware(iPhone, iPhone 3G), and support for those devices must be dropped. It's the exact same way everything else in the world is handled, from TV's to computers.

  • Hi my iPhone is a 3GS and I've tried now to update it for 4.3.5 to 5.0.1 but when its done downloading it comes up with your iPhone is not eligible for this build (i think this is the error message) i need help

    plz help me guys

Most often due two one of the following.
1 Install current version of iTunes, older Macintosh Systems will not support current version of iTunes, make sure you have current version of iTunes.
    Or
2 Your computer Hosts file is blocking Apple from communicating with iTunes. To determine this, search Hosts on computer, then open Hosts file with a word processor. If the Hosts file contains this, gs.apple.com it is blocking Apple. This line with its number must be inactivated (removing it works). A stock Hosts file does not contain this or block Apple.
Here is Apple information on this problem:
"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw."

  • IOS 5.0.1 update on an iPhone 4S:  "not eligible for the requested build"???

I just connected my iPhone 4S to iTunes and clicked "update".  It downloaded the update (took about 10 minutes), and then reports:  "The iPhone could not be updated.  This device isn't eligible for the requested build."
I thought the iPhone 4S was the main target audience for this update?  (though actually, I haven't had battery life issues with 5.0 on my iPhone, by my iPad 1 has had the auto time zone problem from the moment I updated— so I'm actually hoping for it more for the iPad than the iPhone...)
Is there something else coming eventually for the 4S ??

Over the air worked for the iPhone— but why shouldn't the iTunes update work, too?
I get the same error (not eligible) for my iPad 1 in iTunes, but I can't seem to do an over the air update on that one, because after downloading, it just says "Software Update Failed: An error occurred downloading iOS 5.0.1".  I don't know if there are different servers for iPads vs iPhones, but I guess I'll just wait and try the iPad later. (ironically, it was only the iPad, not the iPhone, that had any battery issues with iOS5, due to the auto time zone thing.  The iPhone was fine, so the update was less urgent for it anyway...)
Anyway, that's now an iPad problem, not an iPhone problem!

  • IPad not eligible for requested build

    Dear apple support users,
I'm dealing with the following problem on my iPad, and though I already searched the entire internet for help, the problem is still not fixed.
A few months ago, the 4.2 GM version was released for developers, and because I wasn't able to wait for the official release i manually installed this 4.2GM version by manual downloading and option-click restore. This way I was able to manually select my update file.
Now, as 4.3 is already released for a few months of time, iTunes keeps showing me the message "This iPad (Name of iPad) is up to date", while it is still 4.2GM so not up to date.
I figured that the only way to solve this problem is manually installing the 4.3 update, so after a few Google-searches I was able to download the iOS update manually. I tried the option-click restore for a few times, and my iTunes tells me that "This iPad is not eligible for the requested build". Also when I try to option-click update, the same error is displayed.
The hosts file is untouched, and I checked the entries in this file. There are no entries concerning any apple websites. The device has no jailbreaking history and I've never used any hacking software like TinyUmbrella.
Can some of you please help me with my problem?
    Thanks!

    Dear Merlin37,
As already mentioned in my first posting in this thread, the hosts file is untouched. When I received your reply I double-checked and there are no entries containing gs.apple.com.
So unfortunately your reply didn't help much. I've already checked the forum posts you're referring to.
Does somebody know other causes of this error?
