Accent marks not appearing in pdfs

I am in the process of generating Variable Data pdf for an HP Indigo digital press.
We are having issues with the German and Spanish language versions because accents, umlauts,
and other accent marks are not appearing. Instead we get a placeholder character.
I have checked to insure the fonts are not corrupt and have an ASCII code for the characters in question.
Any suggestions as to how to correct this issue?

Type the dead letter and the vowel:
eg umlat is option u then the vowel = äëïöü
option i then the vowel = âêîôû
option e then the vowel i = áéíóú
option ` (above the tab key) then the vowel = àèìòù
option n then the letter = ñãõ
They are characters usually associated with the accent and have been standard on the Mac for decades.

  • Hyperlinks in Word 2007 not appearing in PDF file

I am not sure if this is more of a Word problem, or an Acrobat problem.
However, I have a document in Word that contains a table of contents and several cross-references that are hyperlinks to locations in the document. In the Word file, you can CTRL + click and you will be taken to the destination of the hyperlink, for example to a topic in the Table of Contents.
I used to make these a couple years back and they worked fine.
I am using Word 2007 on a PC with Acrobat 8.1.2. I have tried both the Standard and the Rich Content PDF job options and neither of them seems to give me hyperlinks in the finished PDF file. Am I missing something?

I've also had problems carrying links over from a Word file (I'm using Word 2002). External links in footnotes are not carried into the PDF file unless, using Change Conversion Settings - Settings, the 'Enable Accessibility etc.' box is ticked. Even then, in a 2mb file, with a lot of footnotes, whether the links are carried into the PDF file seems to depend on which computer I use. OK with XP and 1.5gb; but with Vista and 3gb the links do not appear in the PDF file. In either case its a 10+ minutes process.
If you don't tick the box, links in footnotes are carried over only if the actual URL appears in the text. However, the process is much quicker.

  • Urgent: Custom font style not appearing in PDF output only

    Hi,
For a customer, I received customer specific font styles(ttf font files) which I installed on my machine and then copied those files in Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\Template Builder for Word\fonts as well as in JRE/lib/fonts. Then I created a template in word and font there appears as custom font.
Now I am getting that font style in all output formats(rtf, ppt, excel) except the PDF output. I am using Oracle BI Publisher desktop alone. Not sure what I missed because of which text font is not changing in PDF version only. I checked the PDF properties and there also custom font is not getting mapped.
    Thanks in advance.

Here is the link that describes how to set up the font mapping for PDF output: Look for "Font Mappings (for PDF output)"

  • Why do circles rotated 45 degrees in PowerPoint slides not appearing in PDF -- a bug?

I am using Acrobat XI Professional and PowerPoint 2013 in Windows 8.
I have two PowerPoint slides. One slide is a filled-in circle. The other slide has another filled-in cirlce that is rotated 45 degrees. When I convert the PowerPoint presentation with the two slides to PDF using Acrobat > Create PDF, the circle that is rotated 45 degrees does not appear in the PDF document. This is true for all circles rotated by a factor of 45 degrees with the excpetion of circles that are factors of 90 degrees. LoriAUC pointed out to me that Save As > PDF works -- and it does.
Here is the PowerPoint presentation: http://www.aespen.ca/AETests/TheCaseOfTheMissingDot/Presentation1.pptx.
Here is the PDF document converted from the PowerPoint presentation (using Acrobat > Create PDF) : http://www.aespen.ca/AETests/TheCaseOfTheMissingDot/Presentation1.pdf.

Yes but Dave just got through saying"
"The "feature requests" section of the forum isn't monitored and bugs reported there won't be acted upon." which implies it was just put there for people to blow off steam and they don't care what user want or bugs they find.

It very well may be because when you do a Save As > PDF it works. I would submit this behavior to the Feature Request/Bug Report Form.

  • Text Functions Not Appearing in PDF (Financial Reports)

In the header of Financial Reports we are using common text functions to create the report titles with POVAlias and related functions. • Font not appearing on PDF Output

  • Page numbers not appearing in PDF output past a certain point

Hi.  I have a very large book layout in Aperture (> 300 pages) which I output to a PDF file (using the Print button followed by selecting PDF).  I have successfully done this many times in the past, but there have occasionally been times when Aperture's output just stops including page numbers past a certain point.  I think what it's doing is deciding on white page numbers for the rest of the book, which doesn't work so well when the background is white.  (I can see this because there are occasional pages which are full bleed, and the page numbers appear in white on those pages).
Has anyone else come across this?  I have seen this problem for years (Aperture 1, Aperture 2).  The solution seems to be to carefully modify the page layout so that no elements impinge on the location of the page number.  But doing this does not always solve the problem.  Just this morning I duplicated a page, changed its content, then output and... the page numbers just stopped in the output 30 pages *after* this page.  I just changed the page to move a text element up, hoping that this would solve the problem, and now... page numbers stop at page 263 instead of page 98.
This is a very bizarre and annoying bug.  Extremely annoying.  I am not going to print a book which has page numbers in only the first half or 3/4 of the book.  But if there is no workaround, and Apple seems not to have noticed the problem, I could be stuck.
Has anyone else seen this?  Any suggestions?  How can I report the bug to Apple?  I can't very well give them the output as an example, as it's about 800 MB.

Hi leonieDF.  Thanks for your reply!  I didn't know about the "Provide Aperture Feedback" link.
Alas the Theme is a custom one, it's 9"x11.5" so that the result is 8.5x11" after chopping off 1/4" from all sides.  (The printer does "full bleed" with 1/4" margins).  I originally created it by hand for Aperture 1.5, by simply copying one of the themes and adjusting the dimensions.  (Custom themes weren't possible until Aperture 2, if I remember correctly).  Perhaps that's the source of the issue.  Though I'm not sure how...

  • ALT text not appearing in PDF for EPS files

    Hi,
I have a created a document in InDesign CS5.5 which has images and text. the document should be accessibility complaint.
The document has images which are in PSD, tiff, eps and PNG files. I have applied the Alt text for each images.
After I export the document as PDF, when I mouse over the images, the Alt text is appearing for all the image formats except EPS file format. But Acrobat reads the Alt text for the image.
I am wondering why the Acrobat is not showing the ALT text for EPS file formats when i mouse over the image.
Is anyone facing the same problem? should I do anything in the settings?
    please help.
    Regards
    Ramji V K

The EPS image is not created in photoshop. the image is created in Illustrator.

  • Digital signature from Topaz not appearing in PDF

    Hi,
I've created some PDFs in Acrobat Pro XI but I'm having problems attaching a digital signature using a Topaz signature pad.
The user is using Acrobat X (not Reader).
They are able to draw the signature box on the PDF and they can create the signature using the Topaz signature pad but then the signature doesn't get applied to the PDF (it just leaves the signature box blank).
I've checked the security settings on the PDF and everything is set to Allowed including Signing.
I've also tried the forms in Acrobat Reader (after enabling the Extended Reader options) with the same results.
Not sure what the problem is.  The user can sign other PDFs (that I didn't create) using the Topaz signature pad.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Sebastian,
We've had the same issue and found no solution for this. There just isn't a way to add an image to a by SAP generated PDF file. The only thing that did work was adding the image to a report and adding the report to the web template. In that case the image is printed but on a seperate page.
    Kind regards,
    Alex

  • Added Background does not appear in PDF

I tried this and had problems - opened up a Catia sample in Toolkit, used 'Open Background' to add a jpeg background (blue waves). Worked fine, and when I exported to .u3d, then opened that, I could see that the background was there as you'd expect - behind the 3d Catia sample.
However, when I placed the .u3d file into an Acrobat3D pdf, the background disappeared (just saw the default gray). Tried with other examples, same thing.
Do you know why this is happening? Thanks.

    Thanks, sws
I'll have to experiment - what is slightly confusing is that changing the background for one item seems to keep it there for the next. So maybe when I opened up the saved .u3d and 'saw' the background, it was not so much saved in the u3d, as being added by 3d Toolkit itself.
I'll add it to my growing list of experiments.

  • How to make specific text not  appear in pdf print

I would like to display some text only on screen, but not when printed on paper. How do I do that ?

Yepp I know that, but can we make a service which behaves like facebook or twitter app.?
For e.g. When we click on share, it would show myapp in this share list. So I could share links with myapp.
I heard about "Custom URL Schemes" through which third-party apps can communicate, but how could I implement this for every link on ios browser?
Any suggestion would be helpfull for me.
    Thanks
