I am finding aspects of the new version of Pages frustrating to use and cannot work out how to insert accented letters.  All help welcome.

  • Making spanish accents in pages on ipad2

How do i make spanish accents using pages? I have made the spanish keyboard but can't figure out how to do the accents....some come up automatically with the Spanish spell check, but others don't.

If you tap an hold down on the keyboard for the letter that needs the accent - options pop up for the accents ... Such as the letter a ...ãàá. Tap, hold down and slide your finger to the correct choice without lifting your finger. This may help.

  • Bug in CFCACHE

    Hi,
I upgraded our Coldfusion server from version 7.02 to 8.
Until version 7.02 CFCACHE worked fine.
After migration I´m having problems with accents.
The problem is the Apache (2.0) has iso8859-1 set as
    DefaultCharset.
Looking into Coldfusion Administrator, in Settings Summury
session, it show ISO8859_1 as "Java File Encoding".
Everything works fine, but CFCACHE ACTION="CACHE".
When I request a HTTP acces to a page that uses CFCACHE
ACTION="CACHE", the first answer (not cached) is shown perfectly.
The others (cached) requests, have accent problems.
If I change the Apache´s DefaultCharset to UTF-8,
everything inside ColdFusion works fine, but I have accents with
pages wrote in other languages like HTML and PHP.
My conclusion is although ColdFuson shows the page in
ISO8859-1 format, it saves the cached file as UTF-8.
So I tried to use <cfprocessingdirective
pageencoding="iso-8859-1"> in the template, but the problem
    persists.
Have anyone had some problem like that?
    Thank you,
    Ronan

Scenario: The same error ocurred in two scenarios:
    1) Server: Linux RHE-4 + ColdFusion-8 Standard Upgraded from
    ColdFusion-7 Standard
Hardware: Woodcrest Dual Processor Dual Core, 2 Gb RAM, 2 HD
    SATAII 250 Mb
    Apache-2.0.52 with DefaultCharset ISO-8859-1
    2) Server: CentOS-4.4 + ColdFusion-8 Developer Upgraded from
    ColdFusion-8 Developer
Hardware: Celeron-1.2 Ghz, 512 Mb RAM, HD IDE 80 Gb
    Apache-2.0.52 with DefaultCharset ISO-8859-1
    3) User: Windows-XP (pt_BR) with Internet Explorer-6 and
    Firefox-2.0.0.6 (pt_BR)
    4) Linux Ubuntu-7.04 (pt_BR) with Firefox-2.0.0.6 (pt_BR)
    To reproduce the Bug:
    1) Have a CFM template saved in ISO8859-1 or Cp-1252 Format
    with some accented characters like:
    Balneário Camboriú, Localização e etc.
    2) Insert the tags:
    <cfprocessingdirective pageencoding="iso-8859-1">
    <cfcache action="cache"
    timespan="#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,15,0)#">
as the first lines in the template.
    3) Open the webpage via browser
It's OK, the page wasn't cached
    4) Hit the browser's reload button (to get the cached page)
    The accented characters wrong.
    "Balneário Camboriú" is showed as
    "Balneário Camboriú"
    "Localização" is showed as
    "Localização"
    5) If I change the Apache's DefaultCharset to UTF-8, cfcache
    works
fine with CFM Templantes, but the non ColdFusion pages like
(.HTM, .PHP and etc.) are shown wrongly.

  • Trying to find copyright and trademark symbols

OK, so I know where to find the shortcuts to text symbols in windows, but where on a Mac is the chart for making "not normal" text symbols; (example): trademark, copyright, degrees, diameter, (more or less how do I find the character map file)

This page may be worth printing out:
    Macintosh Accent Codes
Pages has a unique way of dealing with some of these symbols:
    1. Open a Pages document.
    2. In the Pages menu select 'preferences'
    3. Click on the auto correct tab and check the box 'symbol and text substitution'
    4. Check or uncheck the items you wish Pages to autocorrect or not. For example, typing (c) will result in ©. You can even add your own shortcuts.
One beautiful, I can't live without it, donationware is Textpander. With this app you can make hard to type sequences into short easy to remember phrases and this works in every app on your machine. For example you could type the word copyright and Textpander will change it to ©.

  • How to publish in my own domain and in a latin language?

Hi, I have 2 questions that are related.
I created a iWeb project in Portuguese and was able to publish it to MobileMe without any issues. But this MobileMe account it a trial one that I'm not wiling to keep for some reasons, but specially because of the price. It is too much for the space and bandwidth they offer.
With the help of this Forum I could find a way to run iWeb in Portuguese (unfortunately is is not Brazilian Portuguese) and also a way to publish it to a non MobileMe hosting service using Easy iWeb Publisher 4.0 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666). But for some reason I always get an error message from browser:
    Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.
I guess the problem is related to the Portuguese language because when I create the pages the html file names are created with latin symbols and accents. Maybe the server I'm uploading the files to don't support these kind of characters.
So, my question is: is there a way to make a Portuguese language iWeb project work fine on a non MobileMe server? Maybe if I can find a way to make iWeb generate the html files without the Portuguese language characters it could work.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello all
I've the same problem with a French web site with accent in page names.

  • Spanish anyone?

Does anyone know a short cut to make spanish accents in pages? I have an assignment coming up and i need to know please. Thanks.

Sorry if you already know this, or if it's not what you are looking for - but in Lion you can click and hold a letter to get an accent. (This replaces the former behavior of repeating the letter.)

  • Pages 5.2: two letters with accent (e.g. "éé") issue

I use the Dutch version of Pages 5.2 with OS X 10.9.2.
Whenever I type two vowels that both have accents (e.g. "één", "héél" or "dóór") my typing cursor disappears as soon as I enter the second accent. Normally (as in: in Pages '09), this would be the order of typing:
    ' e ' e
The accent is highlighted in yellow and when I press 'e' it creates the 'é' character. Pretty straightforward. However, in Pages 5.2 the second accent isn't highlighted in yellow and makes my cursor disappear, giving me this:
    é'
Pretty annoying. Anyone else experience this?

The behavior that you are experiencing does not occur with a North American version of Pages v5.2.
Try just holding down the letter e and waiting for the accent pop-up panel. Then you can either choose the accented character choice with mouse, trackpad, or keyboard (in this case 2).

  • Accented characters take unknown shapes on web pages

I can't read French accented characters on many web pages I use. Please help me solve this problem.

I am trying to insert the screenshot, but it doesn't work.
I see something like the following
    j'écriai
    tu écrias
    il écria
    nous écriâmes
    vous écriâtes

  • Getting a 404 message for pages that the menus that have a french accent in the menu name, other pages display fine.

Hello, Using muse June 2014 release. After uploading all files to Godaddy web hosting, all menu that have a french accent in the menu name are giving a 404 message page not found, whereas all my other pages that do not have french accents are displaying normally. For the time being, I have removed accents in 3 of the menus, but would prefer to show them. In earlier version of muse everything was working fine. I've also been getting this message: "MuseJSAssert: Error calling selector function:TypeError: $(...).toBrowserWidth is not a function" ; the header of the page shifts to the left of the screen whereas the body items stay centered.
I've deleted everything on the web hosting ftp site and re uploaded everything but does not fix the problem.
    Thank you Dorene.

I uploaded it within Muse "Upload to FTP hose".
However, this morning when I was getting the error message "MuseJSAssert: Error calling selector function:TypeError: $(...).toBrowserWidth is not a function" ; my header was shifting left on some pages and not all and at this time I was not getting the 404 error yet. So I deleted everything from the root of the Godaddy web host and re uploaded and thats when it started giving me the error messages of page not found only on the pages with french accents in the menus. Could I have deleted something in the root that should stay there, but I'm thinking if it should not be deleted it would be locked. Thank you Zak for keeping with and and helping me find this problem. I'm helping out some friends with the new campground they purchased and I look pretty bad with these pages not showing up.

  • By publishing page in iweb how do I get the accents to appear correctly in the Portuguese language?

By publishing page in iweb how do I get the accents to appear correctly in the Portuguese language?

Your server is telling all browsers that the page is encoded as Latin-1.  Instead it must tell them it is UTF-8.  Ask them to fix this for your account.

  • Pages breaks words using "Justify text" on certain accented characters

I'm working on a document in Hungarian, and it seems that when I use the "justified text" setting, this puts extra white space around certain accented characters.
    Please see these screenshots:
    http://www.kkovacs.hu/~kkovacs/Pages-bug-with-accented-words.jpg
In this case, "időszak" should be a single word, and it is, when I write it as "Idõszak" (using õ instead of ő, but this is not the character that is needed there). The problem seems independent of the font that I use (Big Caslon, in the example above).
Is there a way to work around this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kristóf

    Hello
    My old eyes fooled me.
I saw a "lowercase o with a tilde" when it was a "lowercase o with double acute"
With your font which is a bit more recent than mine, the missing glyph is grabbed from an other font (I didn't search which one it is).
I didn't got what was in your original screenshot.
I just get a character with a fully different drawing.
It's funny because it's the kind of problem RC-R and me where exchanging about in:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1644259&tstart=0
Given what I get, I will not call that a bug but a feature that many users (most of them ?) are unaware of.
The operating system does its best to display the character we are asking for even if it is not built in the used font.
This trickery has PROs and CONs.
For your use, I'm afraid that CONs are the most important and that you will have to search for a font embedding the needed characters.
To scan the contents of a font, I uses the free Linotype FontExplorer which displays the defined glyphs in black and the missing ones in red so, it's easy to see if a font fit our needs.

  • Does the Spanish spellchecker in Pages know about accents?

Pages spell checker for the Spanish language does not identify words missing the accent. Is this a shortcoming? Because in Spanish they use quite a bit of accents.
    Anyone has encountered this?

Have you done any maintenance on the computer? If not restart the computer with the Shift key pressed until you see a bar emerging. Then log in  and try Pages. Then restart without pressing the shift key and log in.
Open the Disk Utility application in the Utility folder. Run the repair permissions.
Try Pages and see if it works better now.

  • Accent marks in Pages. I'm looking for a simple way to employ  accent marks when writing in another language WITHOUT using a different keyboard.

In Microsoft Word for PC, all one needs to do is hold the CTL key down, press the accent key needed, such as ` or ~ or ' for example, then press the letter key over which the accent should go.  Does Pages and Apple Mail not have such an easy way to do it?  Thanks to anyone who has a better way.

Type the dead letter and the vowel:
eg umlat is option u then the vowel = äëïöü
option i then the vowel = âêîôû
option e then the vowel i = áéíóú
option ` (above the tab key) then the vowel = àèìòù
option n then the letter = ñãõ
They are characters usually associated with the accent and have been standard on the Mac for decades.
