Acrobat Pro XI problem+Accept End User License Agreement when opening a PDF inside IE
Hi folks, this issue has been challenging.
Acrobat Pro CC install
W7 X64
Deployment went ok after the code was worked out, but.....
We use Desire to Learn content management system at the community college where I maintain the student computers at. When running D2L and a PDF has been embedded in some course material, I am getting the message below and the PDF won't open.
“Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement" .
The only fix so far is to run up Acrobat Pro and run the program once. Fine and dandy, but we are looking at 700+ machines to clear in this fashion. The other part of this scenario we we also utilize Respondus Lockdown Browser to invigilate exams through D2L. Because of the "lock down" features, the student can't even get back to the desktop to run Acrobat and clear the message.
I have tried a number of GPO entries to no avail. As well, disabled the IE PDF viewer add-on. I ran Procmon with no results either; .
I have been scouring the Googlemachine and building on the GPO below to get around the issue with no results. I am hoping someone with a sharper eye than I can spot something or point me in the correct direction..
Thanks eh.

Error message "The file is damaged..." when open a PDF-File in the Portal
Dear Experts,
We converted a Word-File into a PDF and loaded it with the help of SAP Knowledge Workbench into the Portal. When we try to open the file we receive the following error message from the Adobe Reader:
"The file is damaged and could not be repaired. Local\EWH%a'61kta".
Two strange things happen:
- One day it works, the other day not. It can also happen that it works at the same day for some colleagues, but the others get the error message.
- After press F5 (refresh) several times, the PDF can be opened in any case. It can work after refresh twice, but it can also be needed to press F5 seven times.
Has anybody an idea why it can happen?
Thank you very much.
DiegoHi Purush
Unfortunately we couldn't solve the problem. Our IT specialist checked it with SAP directly. SAP doesn't support the SAP KW solution anymore. Therefore we checked-in the document in ".doc"-Format. -
How to allow only the specified users/groups to open my pdf files...
Hi there,
I'm looking for resources/documents describing how to allow only the specified users/groups to open my pdf files by the Java API...
I've found a sample code creating a policy in the following document.
http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/es/sdkHelp/programmer/sdkHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/w whelp.htm?context=sdkHelp&topic=learn_lc_sdk_invokeremoting
( API Quick Starts (Code Examples) > Rights Management Service API Quick Starts > Quick Start: Creating a new policy using the Java API )
But the sample code doesn't set recepients( users/groups ) who can open the pdf file.
How can I make it ?
Any samples ? or Does anybody can tell me which Java classes/methods I should use ??
Policy#addPolicyEntry(PolicyEntry policyEntry) ??
PolicyEntry#setPrincipal(Principal principal) ??
or none of them ?
Any hints are appreciated !
Thanks.I'm not exactly sure what you are tying to do here, but typical approach when issuing one PDF par user/groups scenario goes like:
1. Create policy for specific purpose and add principal (user/group)
2. Apply policy on server side
3. Deliver the file (via email etc...)
If you are looking for sample codes, try quick start.
http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/programLC/programmer/help/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/w whelp.htm?&accessible=true
If you go "API Quick Start/Rights Management Service API Quick Starts", you might find something useful. I think you need "Creating Policies" or "Modifying Policies" for step 1 above, and "Applying Policies to PDF Documents" for step 2.
Hope this helps. -

Code errors could explain the problem. You're missing a closing </div> tag for container.

When I open a pdf file on the net, I can only view page 1 and cannot move to page 2, 3, etc. How can I change pages?
See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]
You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions ("File handling in Firefox 3 and SeaMonkey 2" and "Reset Download Actions") -
Opening a pdf file from the internet.
Everytime I try to open a pdf file from the internet a window pops up and tells me that my adobe reader has a problem or gives me a blank page. I have ie 10, adobe reader XI and adobe acrobat 8 pro. All this is on win 7. When I installed the acrobat 8 pro it could not find the adobepdf.dll. I searched the disc, and tried to direct the installation to it but it would not accept it. What can I do to correct this issue?
Yes, unlike earlier IE versions, IE10 has only one executable, but it can run in 32-bit or 64-bit mode.

Why does IE crash when opening a pdf file ?
I think this is done by the browser when it is saving a temporary file and there's already a file with that exact name in the temp folder.

Bug in Preview in Snow Leopard when opening multiple pdf files at once
I receive 50-200 pdf files by e-mail each day. I have historically saved the pdf attachments to a folder, then selected all the pdf files in the folder (CMD A), then opened all the selected files in Preview (CMD O). After updating to Snow Leopard, downloading 34 pdf files to a folder, selecting them all, then attempting to open them all in Preview (using both CMD O, then File/Open, then File/Open With), the effort first opens 6 of the 34 files. Closing all then trying again results in 7 files being opened, closing all then trying again results in 8 files being opened, etc etc. Earlier today I had the same results, but eventually got a message asking if I wanted to open all in separate windows (I did) or a single window, and it opened all the files at once as I wanted. After shutting down, moving home, and receiving additional pdf files, however, back to the same open 5, then open 6, etc. problem. Anyone else having this problem or a suggestion on how to resolve?
Thanks for suggestions,
BMore info - apparently the bug isn't related to Preview, but to the attempt to open all pdf files in the folder with ANY program. After having Preview open 25 of the 34 files I was attempting to open, I then tried opening all 34 with Adobe Reader. It opened 26 (after Preview had opened 25). Tried again with Preview - it opened 27, then 28 with Adobe Reader. It doesn't necessarily open the FIRST 25 (or 26, etc) either, so it's difficult to work with the open ones, then go back and work with the remaining ones later.

After updating silverlight, i'm unable to open any pdf files in the system
According to your User Agent you posted this question using Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1. Are you having a problem with Firefox? What Firefox version?
You said you are having a problem opening PDF files on your system. Can you explain that better? Mozilla Support can help you with opening PDF files in Firefox, which uses a built-in PDF reader. Maybe one of these articles will help?

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals
delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals
-Right click on Originals and choose NEW DWORD Value and name it bBrowserIntegration, hit enter,
double click on the new value and make sure the value is 1 -
Is there a way to have the thumbnail pane automatically open when opening a pdf file?
I'm using Adobe Reader X and I would like to have the thumbnail preview automatically open when opning a pdf file. I know there is a setting to remember view layouts but this is set for the currently open document and not in general. Thanks in advance,

RobertA particular file can have this setting, so each time you open it you see the thumbnails. The bad news is:
- this would have to be changed per file
- this requires the Acrobat product, not just the free Reader.
