Accepting cookies during private browsing

According to Danish internet legislation, you are always prompted to accept or decline cookies whenever you visit a website. These cookies may be from the website itself, or they may be third party cookies.
Normally my Firefox browser is set to 'Never remember history' in the privacy options, but what happens if I accept cookies from a website during private browsing, or simply with the privacy options set to 'Never remember history' ?
Will the Firefox browser then save cookies ?
Thank you in advance

Yes. Cookie exceptions should work in Private Browsing mode just like in normal mode and you should be able to create an allow or block exception that persists.
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab
Note that you won't be able to view (inspect) cookies in the Cookie Manager while in PB mode.

• How do I enable plugins during Private Browsing sessions?

I sometimes use Private Browsing. However, I noticed that when Private Browsing is enabled, plugins are disabled. I assume this is because some of the plugins maintain personal data, so Firefox cannot guarantee that the plugins will not store personal data during the Private Browsing session.
Still, I want to enable plugins during Private Browsing and I accept the risks involved. But I have not yet figured out how to enable plugins during Private Browsing.
How do I do enable plugins during Private Browsing?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== since Private Browsing was built into Firefox

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Private+Browsing
The disabling of plugins isn't a feature of Private Browsing, what indication do you have that something is disabled?
Or, are you talking about certain extensions or their features being disabled??
That shouldn't happen either, unless a particular extension uses or extends the features in Firefox that are disabled in Private Browsing mode. I imagine that an extension that deals with Passwords, any type of History (like Download List, Forms, or Search), visited pages (browsing history), the Cache, or Cookies isn't going to work as it would in the "normal browsing" mode.

• Is content viewed during "private browsing" forensically extractable? e.g does it still write the content to the disk and can it be recovered?

is content viewed during "private browsing" forensically extractable? e.g does it still write the content to the disk and can it be recovered?
If a forensic investigator was to do forensics on my disk after i browsed content under private browsing, could it be recovered
There is no intention to use this for illegall purposes, i just wondered how to private is "private browsing"

Private browsing basically prevents any data from being stored in your Profile folder. This article provides more details.
Please note that cookies are created during a private browsing session. However, they are deleted once the session is ended or when you exit Firefox application.
Also note that other applications on your computer might be tracking which sites you visit (firewall, antivirus etc). They will still be able to collect your browsing related data even if you have activated private browsing in Firefox.

• 5.1 Preferences/Cookies and Private Browsing gone haywire - BACKWARDS

There is something gone wrong, all haywire with the new version of Safari at 5.1.  The Cookies settings in the Prefs has "Block" settings, and I have it set at "ALWAYS" and yet it allows for me to sign in to any webpage with my name and password, whereas before I couldn't. At the same time, if I use "Private Browsing" and set that, it actually blocks my Cookies!!!! whereas before all it did was not remember History.   Somebody messed up the programming and got this one completely backwards, this should be the other way around.
Cookies set to ALWAYS should block all cookies and Private Browsing should not block cookies just not remember history.
This is a major blunder. Needs immediate update fix, please.

1. There are other threads on this issue
2. At least for me, the forums are not letting me 'reply' to posts, I am getting past this by going to 'advanced' and posting from there.

• How to know the sites list that are browsed during "Private browsing" session?

It'd be better for me to learn the history of "Private browsing" session.

No history is stored by Firefox whilst using private browsing.

• How does my employer know which sites I visit during private browsing?

My employer has told me that they have discovered that I have visited unsuitable sites. They must have found a way to get into my private browsing history. What can I do to prevent this from happening again?

There are services that will encrypt all of your web browsing so that intermediate computers and firewalls don't know what you're doing. (However, this will not fool a company proxy server.)
At this point, lots of secure traffic from your PC would look very suspicious. If your job is important to you, you probably should do your NSFW browsing from outside the company network.

• Do parental control filters like AntiPorn (downloaded from CNET) work during private browsing sessions?

The community discussion about deleting or turning off private browsing was pretty dismissive. People just said: get a filter. That raises the question, is there anything about the private browsing feature that would insulate it from the monitoring function of a parental control filter? CNET strongly endorsed AntiPorn, a free download, which I'm considering using. So the question is, if Private Browsing gets turned on, will it still work to block objectionable sites? I run Firefox with Windows 7 Starter on an HP netbook.

Sorry if this comes to late, I just now came across this thread.  I have rtorrent and rutorrent sunning successfully on my x64 Arch Linux install.
Try putting the "SCGIMount /RPC2 127.0.0.1:5000" line in your httpd.conf file right after the LoadModule lines (it's line 124 for me).
I seem to recall it not working when I put it at the end of the file.
Best of Luck!

• If I use private browsing on my laptop at home on my ISP, when I hook into my network at work that has a different ISP, can my employer find where I visited during private browsing?

I currentliy have WIndows XP, and the Firefox 4.0

Possibly, if your employer has "logging" software installed on their PC's / laptops.

• Safari Private Browsing keeps cookies

I thought that Safari was supposed to purge the cookies added during private browsing as well...seems as if it did that before, but doesn't now.

HI Jim,
This from the Safari Help Menu:
About cookies
A cookie is a small file created by a website to store information. The cookie is stored on your computer. Cookies are normally helpful and harmless; it’s rare to encounter a bad cookie.
When you visit a website that uses cookies, the site asks Safari to put cookies on your computer. When you return to the site later, Safari sends back the cookies that belong to the site. The cookies tell the site who you are so that the site can show you information that’s appropriate for you.
Cookies can store information that identifies you, such as your name and email address. A website has access only to the information you provide. For example, a website can’t determine your email address unless you provide it. A website can’t gain access to other information on your computer.
When you use the default cookie preferences in Safari, you won’t know when Safari is accepting or sending cookies.
You can change your cookies preferences so that Safari doesn’t accept cookies or accepts them only from limited sources.

• For settings, under private browsing, what is the difference between enbling and disabling cookies, aren't they going to be deleted anyway?

under private browsing, browsing history, cookies and etc will be deleted after private browsing is over.
however, for settings of privacy we can set private browsing as default. there are still some options below that we can choose to accept cookies from sites. does it make any sense? cookies are going to be deleted anyway after private browsing is over.
can anyone expain this to me?
appreciate it!

Cookies in Private Browsing work just like in normal mode, so you can still set allow and block exceptions for domains and disable third-party cookies.<br />
Only cookies aren't saved to disk in cookies.sqlite and they expire if you end the Private Browsing session, so all cookies are effectively session cookies.

• Per window private browsing not working, still sharing cookies

Firefox 21, per window private browsing not working. The cookies are still shared among private browsing windows and tabs. Even with private tab addon, still not working.
If I log into google in one tab, I am still logged in with that account in new private tabs and private windows.

One more question about cookies in private browsing mode.
I don't like browse a web using usual mode 'cause I don't like tonns of sites in a history. But when I start with private mode every time I get empty set of cookies and this was not quite good for me 'cause some sites store its options needed for me. In a prev. versions of FF I solved this issue in such a way: I stored some cookies in a file and every time I started private browsing I loaded them from file. But now this method gives nothing: in cookies manager all set of "non private" cookies is shown both before importing and after importing them from a file and I need to reconfigure my sites every time I start private browsing.
I'm sorry for my English.

• Reset Safari's Private Browsing Data

Without private browsing, if I visit a site such as reddit, login, and check the "remember me" box, Safari will effectively remember me until I do a Reset Safari with everything checked (this is the expected behavior).  However, if I do exactly the same thing with Private Browsing enabled, Reset Safari stops working as expected for the data saved during a Private Browsing session.  Worse, the data Safari saves during the Private Browsing session stays permanently, so quitting and restarting Safari does not fix the problem, as once I re-enable Private Browsing, reddit will remember me again.
I've tried everything I could to reset my Private Browsing data but apparently it keeps coming back.  I have plugins and Java disabled, so it can't be Flash; I've even gone as far as to remove the ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and ~/Library/Safari directories entirely to no avail, reddit continues to remember me in Private Browsing no matter what I do and only when Private Browsing is enabled (which is kind of ironic).
Obviously I'm not concerned about reddit itself, but if reddit, which has no ill intent, can remember me, then I wonder how much data is being saved without my knowledge that I can't remove during a private browsing session.

Vaelian, I face this bug, too. Did you find any solution or reported the bug, already?
With Wireshark, I was able to verify that Apple simply sends the Cookie. Nobody (Flash, Java or HTML itself) did request the Cookie. The cache and cookies for private-browsing are kept as long as I am logged in. If you turn off private-browsing, Apple uses Library/Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies and therefore, the cookie is not present. However, if you turn on private-browsing again, the Cookie magically appears! I checked my whole disk and could not find the private-brwosing cookie-store. I guess, it is stored somewhere in RAM.
My solution:
I logged-out via Apple menu. Alternatively, I restart the whole computer. Then, all cached data and the cookies of my private-browsing mode got deleted.
Side effects:
This private-browsing cookie-store gets corrupted after some time and I experienced the wildest errors on webpages. Again, logging out and logging in again, solved it.

• My E pad has stopped directing me to my att/yahoo e mail. It gives me a notice that i must go to Settings, Safrai and turn off Private Browsing. I have tried for 2 days to find private browsing on my safrai site, and it is just not there.

Forsome reason, after two years, my E Pad is refusing to go to my att.Yahoo e mail...It says to go to Settings Safari Private Browsing and turn off Private Browsing. There is not place on the Safrari page that gives me Private Browsing. It explains it as being dark when turned on, but no place to turn it on or off.  Also it seems to go to Yahoo Mail instead of Att..Yahoo when it gives me the above message....Any One know what todo?

As of iOS 7, private browsing is not longer handled in the Settings app, but in Safari directly. The only Settings function for Safari that may impact this would be Block cookies.
Private browsing is turned on and off in Safari using the button in teh lower left of the Safari screen (if you do not see this, tap the + icon in the upper right to pull up an empty tab).

• Saving Youtube volume level in Private Browsing

How can I save Flash volume level in Firefox Private Browsing mode (in sites like Youtube)?
Thanks.

Thank you Chris. I appreciate your reply.
Firefox stores site-cookies in Private Browsing mode for the session (i.e. until exiting FF or switching to normal browsing).
I think it would make sense if ‘flash cookies’ would also be stored for the session.

• I want to do private browsing but only accept cookies from a few websites

I love the private browsing feature, but certain websites require me to turn on cookies. How can I only allow cookies for a limited number of websites (eg. facebook), but block cookies from the 99% of the websites I visit and still be use private browsing.
It seems as though there should be an option to "Accept cookies from only these websites" list that the user can maintain, as I can't figure out any other way to accomplish this.

Cookies work the same in Private Browsing as in normal mode, only all cookies expire if you end PB mode and you do not keep any new cookies permanently. You can set exceptions to site where to keep cookies. Exceptions are kept outside PB mode, unless you remove them yourself (Clear Recent History, Site Preferences).
*You can see the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
*You can see all cookies exceptions in Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies > Exceptions
