Hi all,
Today, I installed an acces point in my house to cover the wifi signal where it was bad before.
This signal is great now on my Ipad and Iphone, but my Macbook pro (mid 2011) has a problem.
My Ipad and Iphone switch between the accespoints perfectly, they pick out the one that has best signal strength and probably the best RSSI.
My MBP however does not switch between the acces points it will keep locked on the one it initially connected to.
When I turn off WIFI and turn it back on again it will reconnect to the best available but it will not switch on itself.
Does anyone know what is wrong?
My wife's MBP (same version) does seem to work and switch perfectly.....

Has this started recently after the last PS3 update? If so theres a thread on this and so far no fix yet. Just do a search. Other than that you need to set up static IP's for both your computers and PS3. There are tutorials on this site as to how to do this.

Hello everyone,
I'm very new to this wireless networking stuff.
I'm having some problems with my wireless router. My ISP provided me with a Huwaei wireless modem, but I reside in a two floor apartment and the ISP's modem does not brodcast well to the second floor, the signal is very low.
My difficulty here is that I'm trying to use my router to brodcast the signal to the second floor.
Is it possible to set up an acces point with with my Wi-Fi router ?
My idea is that the router would be placed in a different part of the apartment and clone the signal from the wi-fi modem and broadcats that signal. I want to place the wi-fi router in the second floor.
Is such an action possible?

You can set the WRT54GL as an Access Point, both your both the Routers should be Hardwired to each other..
To make both the Routers work wirelessly, its not possible.
To make both the Routers work each other, Connect the Ethernet Cable from the LAN Port of your Modem to the Lan Port 1 of the Linksys Router. Click Here and follow the instruction how to make your Linksys Router work with your Modem.

Hello fouadissam,
You can connect to the AP with a console cable and enter show ip interface brief, which will display the ip address.
If its connected to a network you can log into your switch and enter show arp | i xxxx.xxxx.xxxx(mac address of the AP).

Can definitely make calls when out of the house.
Not sure if I can access Safari out of the house, my plan allows me to (250GB a month) but when I tried to a while ago, I couldn't and I couldn't work out why. I never usually need to so it hasn't bothered me until of course, I wanted to once!
Can't check it at the moment though as it obviously works inside the house and its almost 11pm now. I will check it tomorrow though. If I can't access Safari - what do I need to do? Am guessing both these things are connected then?

AIR-LAP1310G-E-K9 acces point not joining to 5508 wlan controller

I have Cisco AIR-LAP1310G-E-K9 access point and 5508 wlan controller with version 7.0.220 and it is joining to the WLAN controller. I have enabled dhcp in the lan controller and i dont have external dns server. How to fix this issue? Can this LAN controller version will support this access point?

What are you using to tell the AP where the contoller lives ? Since you are consoled into the ap you can use the -> capwap ap controller ip address
This will point the ap to your controller

IOS deleted on Cisco Acces Point

Hello,
IOS of my access point 1130 was deleted after bad manipulation.
I have just a boot but not a flash on my AP. I can connect it just in console mode.
What is the procedure to restore the IOS?

Linksys WAP200 DHCP issues (acces point)

Hello,
during installation of Linksys WAP200 we noticed the following two issues:
a) The main problem consist of that AP (wifi access point) do not process DHCP request. Any DHCP request is not received when we had to used only one SSID and AP is in VLAN1 (the same problem is registered if are allowed VLANs to AP). Additionaly were created additional SSID - all is working properly.
b) The second and more important problem if is required to make restart of AP or due to outage of electricity, again is not allowed to receive IP address from AP. When is second SSID deleted and again reconfigured is whole communication and functionality restored.

Hi Pavol,
As with the SRW series switches, the default VLAN (vlan1) is untagged.
VLAN2, VLAN3 and VLAN4 will obviouslybe tagged, so the WAP200 supports trunked VLANs.
I have been using WAP200's for both bridging in some applications and just in AP mode for other applications for a number of years, in conjunction with my SRW2008P switch.
But I have seen issues, where after a software upgrade. I had to reset the AP back to factory defaults and create the configuration again.
Firstly reset the WAP200 back to factory defaults and it still fails, I would suggest you call the wonderful folks at the Small Business Support Center (SBSC) in your country via the following URL;

I must admit I am using the US software 1.0.22 and not the European software :D but it may just be a configuration issue you may have.
I did see software version firmware_wap200v1.0.22.2-ETSI for European countries, i am not sure if that is the software you are using.

Acces point compatible with ipod touch 3G

I want to tell me what model and brand of Access Point is compatible with my iPod Touch 3G as some internet access point does not provide wifi to my ipod, although it appears online does not grab the signal.

Anyway, now it just says iPod Touch, which in this case probably means 4th and 5th gen.
I think ive seen it in other apps describtion as well, and will post link next time, but now i just feel stupid

E61i, Acces point config with WPA2, EAP-PEAP and ...

How can you activate the AES encryption on a Nokia E61i.
I'm running the 1.0633.62.05 firmware.
In documentation I've found there is mentioned I need to disable the TKIP encryption but this option is not available
 Select “WLAN security sett.”
• In “WPA mode” choose EAP
● In “TKIP encryption” choose Not allowed (thus enabling AES encryption)
 Disable everything except EAP-PEAP
 Highlight EAP-PEAP
• Choose “EAP plug-in settings”le
They mention firmware above 2.xxx but this one is not available

Hey all, It seems I have the same problem!!! I don't know whats the problem. I asked the guys in IT support in my school about this problem and they told me that the phone has to support PEAP-Enterprise in order to be able to connect.. I don't know what does that mean but if anyone guys can help here, it will be soooo respected!! I am using the new firmware ,by the way. TKIP is not exist in the connection settings anywhere!!! and the message is exactly "Unable to Connect. WPA authentication failed" .... help help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Modem, router, switch then an Acces Point (AP)

I know that the AP wil let dhcp request go through.
But if I connect a switch to a router and from that switch I will connect a AP. Will this work without any problem?
Goal is to have in the roomoffice the possibility to go on the internet with wifi and with cable (as there is interference of fake walls with metal, aluminium in it).
Probably every roomoffice will need an AP.

I know that in most all setups with Small Business Devices this works with no issue. The thing to think about is how is the Router and Switch setup. Are there any VLANs or ACLs to consider?
With a normal out of the box setup there should be no issues at all.

Setup RV220W as Access Point

Hi,
May i know that can a CISCO RV220W setup as a Access Point in company network?
We already have a router for IP management.
is it possible to setup as Acces point?
Also can we separate the guest and internal user for using wireless by difference SSID and VLAN.
It seem it cannot setup if i need to setup limited network access right by SSID and VLAN.

For setup as AP, i understand your suggestion.
Also i understand i can setup a VLAN assign to an SSID.
Under this SSID, internal user can access our network.
I can setup Lan Port (1) and Lan Port (2) in VLAN1, assign one SSID.
i plug my default gateway(existing router) into Lan Port (1), so my internal user can access network resource by this SSID
For guest SSID, we don't have other router.
If i setup Lan Port (3) and Lan Port (4) in VLAN2, assign one new SSID.
Where i can enable "inter-VLAN" with protection of local network?
Can i setup the protection of local network with Guest SSID by RV220W?
Do i need additional equipment?

No 'BTFON' in WiFi Access Point List - Non HomeHub...

Hi, I am a BT broadband customer, opted in to the BTFON thing. On the BTFON website I can see my location has a BTFON acces point marked (it is definately me as I live in the middle of nowhere). However, I can't see a BTFON option on my iphone or iPod Wifi Settings list. I CAN see other BTFON access points when I am out and about, tho.
I do not have a BT HomeHub at home, I am using a Cisco wireless router - I dont think I ever got a HomeHub as I have had BT broadband for eons - before, I think, they were supplied..?

yes i think it is indeed due to you using a third party router.
the homehub can be configured (remotely) to allow it to display a separate wireless access point which is totally separate to your own private network and with a limited bandwidth for fon/openzone users to connect to/
this ensures that your available bandwidth is not all used should there be a connection to your hotspot and more importantly that there is no direct connection to the rest of your network so that no external user can gain access to your PC's
this could not be guarenteed if it were to be implemented on a third party router.
no trees were harmed in the sending of this message but millions of electrons were terribly inconvenienced
