Accesing CS5 from Lightroom 4.1

Hi,
I have both Photoshop CS5 and CS6 loaded on my computer as well as LR 4.1. I have been primarily editing in CS6 from Lightroom becuase of full compatibility. But today, I wanted to open a file in CS5 from Lightroom because one of the Photoshop plugins I am using is not compatible yet with CS5. When I went to the menu to choose CS5 as my program to edit in, it wasn't available as a choice and I cant figure out why. CS6 was the only choice I was offered. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
John

Yes, that's correct and should work. However, make sure you save that setting as a new preset....use "Choose" to select "Photoshop.exe" from the CS5 program folder, then use the drop down arrow at the end of the Preset box and choose "Save Current Settings as New Preset"....give the preset a name, and it should then appear in the "Edit in" context menu.

  • How to access Camera Raw when invoking CS5 from Lightroom 3?

When I invoke CS5 from Lightroom, my NEF files seem to load directly without giving me an opportunity to make adjustments in Camera Raw. If I open the same NEF file from windows Explorer, CS5 presents the Camera Raw adjustment page and I can make adjustments before proceeding.
How can I work around this?
BTW I know I can make camera raw adjustments in Lightroom and then open in CS5, however for an image that I know I will be using CS5 on anyway, I don't want to do anything at all in LR just go direct to CS5 but I can't do this if this bypasses my ability to make adjustments in camera raw!
I must be missing something here, can anyone point me in the right direction?
    [I'm using Camera Raw 6.1, LR3, CS5 12.0.1 x64; Invoking CS5 from LR3 by right-click on image, Edit In > Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5]

That workaround did work for me so thanks for the helpful reply!
If anyone else has other ways of making this work I'd like to hear about it.

  • Can't send files to CS5 from Lightroom

For some reason I can't send files to CS5 from Lightroom 5 and have no idea why. It was never a problem before. I also am not able to open files in the Nik collections from Lightroom. Any ideas?

While in LR5. I would either right click or go to the Photo tab > Edit in > Edit in photoshop CS5, or on one of the Nik collections plug ins. And absolutely nothing happens. I tried reinstalling SC5 and LR5 with the updates. And it still doesn't work. My OS is W7. I haven't tried updating Niks collection yet.
I have no idea what to do from here.

  • Opening images in CS5 from Lightroom 4

    Hi,
Can someone explain why, when I edit an image from Lightroom in CS5 ( or other plugins ), that when I save it and go back to Lightroom, the edited image is not there.
The original is there but not the edited version. It will say 2 x 2 for example, so I know the edited version is there somewhere, but I cannot see it in the filmstrip.
The only way I can see the edited image is if I close Lightroom down and restart it. Then it appears next to the original. Obviously that is not ideal.
I would appreciate any help, I hope its just a setting somewhere.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

Have you tried resetting your warnings in the preferences dialog?

  • Image garbled when exporting to Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 3

I posted this in the Lightroom forum, but I am cross-posting it here in case anyone has run into something similar...
I  purchased a new 2011 Sandy Bridge MacBook Pro.  I loaded Lightroom 3.3  and CS5 Photoshop onto it.  Unfortunately, whenever I export a picture  from Lightroom into Photoshop for editing (using CMD-E), the image is  completely garbled in Photoshop.  It's particularly confusing, because  the layer preview looks correct in Photoshop, but the actual image in  the editing window is completely illegible.  I've attached screenshots  to illustrate.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm having the same problem and I have a brand new (4 day old) MacBook Pro too. My images look like this...
It only works when I change the LR3 preferences to edit in CS5 as sRGB and not ProPhoto RGB. However, I want to use ProPhoto RGB as my workspace in CS5 so I need to figure out what the problem is...

  • Can't open dng file in Photoshop cs5 from Lightroom 5.6

Hello, I've searched around and can't find the answer to my question.
    Technical details:
    OS X v10.8.5
    Photoshop CS5 (ver12.1) Camera Raw ver 6.7.1.340
Lightroom ver 5.6 (Camera Raw ver8.6)
    Camera: Nikon D600
Minimum camera raw version to support D600 Raw is ver 7.3  and Lightroom ver 4.3
I know that my version of PS doesn't support my Nikon D600 raw files so I've used the Adobe DNG converter and converted a raw file so I can process in PS. I can open the DNG file directly in PS and get the ACR screen to perform my edits. However, what I really want to do is open the DNG file in PS from LR.
While in LR, if I select Edit in -> Adobe Photoshop CS5, I get the notification from LR that "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera raw plug-in version 8.6 for full compatibility". I would have expected that regardless of whether I opened the (same) dng file from PS or LR (and edit in PS), that once in PS. the ACR screen in PS would be presented. Can anyone explain to me why this is the case and if this is normal or expected behaviour? Thanks
    Also:
Adobe DNG converter preferences = Use Camera Raw 6.6 and later
Lightroom preferences = File Handling -> Use Camera Raw 6.6 and later
    Thank you in advance,
    Mark

As Station_two mentioned, you're using a version of LR that is not compatible with the older version of PS CS5. I don't know it LR has the ability to save DNGs to work in older versions of PS. If not, you will need a DNG converter to save them to the version of Camera Raw that PS CS5 can handle or upgrade PS.

  • Editing in CS5 from Lightroom 3

Similar question to others in the forum with a couple of twists.  Hopefully someone can point me to the solution.
System:  iMac 2.4GHz running in 32bit, 4Gb RAM
Software:  Lightroom 3, Photoshop CS5 running in 64bit (same problem if running in 32bit), NIK Complete package plug-ins (updated for 64bit operation)
PS is the external editor for LR per Preferences; Camera Raw is 6.2 version.
When I select an image in LR to edit in PS via Photo>Edit in CS5 the following happens:
    PS opens
    Palettes appear
Finder dialogue box opens asking me to pick a file for editing.
    Or:
    PS opens
    Palettes appear
No file opens - just sits there doing nothing.
    Or:
    PS Opens
    Palettes appear
    File appears for editing.
It's irregular enough to drive me crazy.  Sometimes switching from 64 to 32 bit PS will result in normal behavior.  Sometimes selecting Edit In via right click on image will work.  Sometimes selecting a .psd file in LR will work and then all other file types (.dng, .tiff) will work.  Sometimes I have to shut everything down and restart for it to behave normally.
Anyone see this particular version of the Edit In CS5 bug and found a solution to it?  Seems to have started a couple of weeks ago but not after any upgrade or installation on my part.
Thanks to all for thinking about it.

I don't know what anyone else will say, but I would try uninstalling and reinstalling.  do _NOT_ remove your catalog file, or images. They will be fine and dandy.  They are not related to software installs at all.  I'd remove PS as well.  Then install PS first, then install LR.  See if that fixes the problem.
    Cheers!

  • Edit in Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 3.2 doesn't open file in Photoshop

    Hi,
I've just made a complete fresh install of Lightroom 3.2 and Photoshop CS5 extended on my new iMac (OS 10.6.4, x64)
Now I'm trying to edit raw-files in Photoshop CS5.
Normally a popup should appear to ask in which format the photo should be opened in PS.
But no popup is shown, Photoshop starts immediately, but without actually opening the photo.
If I configure Photoshop as secondary editor this problem does not appear, and everyting works fine.
But in that case I miss the option for a secondary editor like for example DxO...
    What to do?
    Regards,
    Menno

    Menno,
I can't help you with your primary problem, as I'm not a CS5 user.
But regarding your second concern with having CS5 as a secondary editor and therefore not having the option for additonal external editors:
You can have as many external editors as you like, e.g. CS5 as one, DXO as one, Nik Viveza as one and so on. All you have to do is create different External Editor Presets in Preferences for each desired external editor.

  • Invoking Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 4 asks for Camera Raw Plug-in 7.0

I have just downloaded and installed Adobe Lightroom 4.0. When I try to invoke "Photo / Edit in Photoshop CS 5.1" I get the warning "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.0 for full compatibility. Please update the camera raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu". However, the update function in Photoshop CS5.1 says that there are no updates available and searching adobe.com I can find no references to Camera Raw plug-in 7.0. What is one to do? Thanks.

No, the warning is not the issue.  As I've said, "supported cameras" are not the problem.
I do initial processing on my images, then using Lightroom CMD E push them to Photoshop for further editing.  The message says "7.0 may be required for full compatibility" should I ignore that warning and click "Open Anyway"  because there really aren't any compatibility issues?
LR 4 Develop module is much different than LR 3,  just as CS5 version of ACR is different than what I've seen in the CS6 beta.   My assumption is there would be compatibility issues - as the warning says - when using LR4's develop engine then passing it on to CS5.  I don't use ACR in Photoshop since I use Lightroom, I use Photoshop for detailed image editing in conjunction with the Nik Software selective tool run as a window within Photoshop.
So how about a clear answer:  Just click "Open Anyway" and everything will work great?  When I first work on an image in LR4, then further edit it in Photoshop CS5 with ACR 6.7 installed, Save and Close the image in Photoshop sending it back to Lightroom it will all work just like yesterday when I did all that in Lightroom 3 without any error messages?

  • RAW files exported to PS CS5 from LR2.7 LAG DOWN CS5

I recently installed photoshop cs5 and have been using it with lightroom 2.7 and lightroom 3beta.
The other day I downloaded and installed adobe camera raw 6.1.  now every time I export a raw file into cs5 for editing, I get EXTREME levels of lag when I try to use filters like smart sharpen or surface blur.  I checked my CPU performance, and it spikes to %99 CPU usage while CS5 tries to apply a smart sharpen filter.
When I export files into cs4, I have no problems applying these filters.  They're fast and quick.
When I directly import a raw file into CS5 using photoshops raw converter, I dont experience this lag running filters at all.
So i'm concluding that the ACR6.1 update is somehow incompatible with lightroom 2.7 when used in conjunction with photoshop cs5.
    can someone please help!?
I use lightroom exclusively for my photography workflow.

    I suppose that would help...
    thanks for the response:
    2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
    Crucial 120GB SSD
scratch disks 1TB  7200rpm, 3 x 300GB 10,000rpm raptor drives (I store my raw files and edit them from this drive)--it's a raid 0 array
i'm running lightroom 2.7, as well as lightroom 3beta
photoshop cs5 running in 64bit mode.
the RAW files are canon raw .CRW  files from a 5D mark II, approximately 22MB.
i'm exporting them at 300DPI into cs5 from lightroom.  I'm letting lightroom do the converting.
with ACR6.1 installed, any raw or tiff file i export from lightroom into cs5 causing cs5 to lag down in general, and experience extreme lag when i apply filters like smart sharpen and surface blur---under the utility manager, it appears that the CPU is at %99 usage when these filters are being applied--hence the lag.
I reintalled cs5, but didn't install acr6.1 this time.  the problem has been solved, at least as far as I can tell.
so my conclusion is that ACR6.1 doesn't work with lightroom.

  • Color change on exporting from lightroom and saving in Photoshop CS5

I have been having issues with my pictures with color management.    I have Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.  I thought over the last 2 years that it was just me.   I have bought a Eizo monitor with a hood, calibrate with a i1display pro, painted my walls gray, updated my strobes from alien bees to elinchrome bxri's.   Updated my sekonic meter to a L 758.   Have done custom white balance with gray card, expodisc, xrite kits.   The problem has been over the years when I work on a picture in lightroom and export it as jpeg or adobe rgb it gets saved to my external hardrive and the colors are really bad !!   You can go back and compare the picture in lightroom to the picture on my iomega external drive and there is a significant difference.   I do some animal photography and I had a dog that had brown fur and when I export it out of lightroom the dogs fur is actually a bright very orange color.  Same thing happens with skin tones.     When I import the photos into lightroom the pictures look ok.       The same thing is happening when I go from lightroom to photoshop the picture color looks good but when I go to File-save as - tiff or jpeg the colors are changing.   It does not matter what color space I am in I have tried them all it is still happening.    If anyone has any insight that would be great.

Thanks everyone for the help.   I have only been doing photography for about 2 years and the color managment part has been my hardest thing to get right.   My monitor ColorEdge CG243W LCD.   Wide color gamut of 98%.  Has a sensor on front of monitor that detects ambient brightness but this will only work if you are in a custom color mode.  Modes are: custom,  sRGB,DCI,EBU, Cal1.   I use the Cal 1 to be able to use the Colornavigator software that came with the monitor.  You also have to be in custom color mode to be able to manually adjust brightness, contrast, temperature on the monitr itself which I do not use because I use the Cal 1 mode.   I was not sure about the digital input signals.   I am on the DVI-I in which this allows digital signal input and analog signal input.    There is a DVI-D mode that allows only digital input only.    Also did not know if I needed to be concerned about setting the frequency that corresponds to the grahic board in the monitor ?    My bandwith was set to normal and now is on wide.   My digital input is for 1920x1200 resolution.   Appicable signal is Vesa CVT RB.  Frequency is 60 Hz.   Yes I did call Eizo twice last year when I got my monitor and did not get very far.     I have also called and spoke to a color specialist at my lab and told him the problems I have been having and he just told me to leave everything in sRGB.   Well I would like to get the most from my monitor's color gamut and when working on my pictures so that is why I am still determined to get this figured out.
I use the i1 Dislpay Pro hardware to calibrate with and the ColorNavigator software.     When calibrating.   I go to create a new target---select enter manually--Gamut ( monitor native--states recommended)--Brightness 100cd---White point (6500k)--set black level (recommemded states mininum 0.2)---gamma 2.20---priority (set automatically to standard, this adjusts gray balance while maintaining the contrast)---then I hit calibrate and it goes through the process.   The results I get are:                                            Target                                               Result
                          Brightness                                        100cd                                              99.9cd

Hi there, I need to be able to read raw files from an Olympus Stylus 1 via CS5 and Lightroom 4.  I have downloaded Raw file plug-in v 6.7.1 but still can't read the files?

    Read this table http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The Olympus Stylus 1 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and CC.
It is not compatible with CS5 or older and never will be.
If you do not want to upgrade to CS6 or CC then you can dwonload the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Stylus 1 Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5.

I recently upgraded from lightroom 3 to lightroom 4 for mac, and when I open up raw images that I have edited in lightroom as smart objects in photoshop CS5 (which I also just bought) to apply some finishing touches to my photos, none of the edits I made in lightroom transfer over or appear on the image that opens in photoshop. Instead, the unedited version of the photo appears in photoshop. I have never had this problem before, especially before I upgraded my software. Did I accidentally hit a button or something?! I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong on my end. Please advise (the sooner the better, I have a whole gang of wedding photos due to a client tomorrow)! Thank you in advance.

Lightroom uses a database for edits and keyworrds.  Bridge and Photoshop writes the info. to the image or to an XMP flle.  So to be compatable you have to write metadata to file.
Here is link to recent post that describes the process.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/991608?tstart=30

Make sure your external editor settings link to the application in support files (hidden on Lion) rather than a shortcut.
