Access connection cannot function properly

I am using X31 running on XP.  My wireless lan card is Intel 2200bg.
I have updated the driver of 2200bg, access connection, power management driver and hotkey.  I can properly configure my wireless network settings through Microsoft Win XP.  However, I cannot do so through access connection.
The symptons are:
1. Pressing Fn + F5 comes out a window.  The status of the power of the wireless card is not correct.  Pushing the key cannot turn on or off the wireless power.
Sometimes, it cannot recognise that there is a wireless card.
2. Openning the access connection, it cannot show the available networks.  (though MS win XP shows that there are a lot around)

Hi,
your situation looks, like missing, or misscongifuration of the apps/drivers.
So here is what I would do:
- uninstall AC
- install the latest versions of following apps/drivers:
Power Management driver
Power Manager
System Interface driver
Hotkey utility
Wifi driver
- once this is installed reboot the system
- install the latest version of AC
Let me know, if this change your situation.
Cheers

  • ThinkVantage Access Connections cannot export .loc profile

    Hello,
I've tried to export one of the location profiles in Thinkvantage AC. The function however is disabled in the profile maintenance window/menu. Access connection thus only allows importing, but no exports possible.
I've already tried using the Deployment tool for creating .loa files. But as this is binary gibberish, it's not much more useful to me than a registry export.
So, does anybody alternatively have a *.loc file at hand for public viewing? Couldn't find a single example on the web. (Much less in Lenovos documentation or web site...)
    Thanks!

Here's an update to my situation:
     ThinkVantage Access Connections Issue
I just gave up on this and uninstalled it so no conflicts on this now.  (Not critical to me unless someone more knowledgeable thinks it should be!)
Rescue and Recovery: I tried reinstalling both the  Thinkvantage version 4.21 and Rapid Restore 4.0 after disabling all virus protection and uninstalling whichever one was on at that time.
Thinkvantage version 4.21:  Gave me tons of errors in the  pre windows R&R environment so I gave up after rebooting a couple of times  It told me there was a problem with factory.exe and the following files were "corrupt and unreadable":
    netdgdxb.PNF
    nettcpip.PNF
    netvt86.PNF
    netw940.PNF
    net557.PNF
    netand2.PNF
    netbrdgm.PNF
    netce2.PNF
    NetSetup.Log
Rapid Restore 4.0: Reinstalled from c:\ibmtools\apps.
Ran both "Create Rescue Media" and Rapid Restore 4.0.   "Create Rescue Media"seemed to work ok and burned a CD for me.  Rapid Restore had a problem and closed on it's own, but then proceeded to prompt me through 17 CDs for a backup!?!  Can I rely on these?  Is there a way to check their integrity?  Of course, a fix for the program seeming to end--but not really --would be great.  Also, the program to create the factory product recovery disks is no longer in Start-Programs menu.  The pre Windows R&R environment seems to load ok--no obvious error messages.
Finally,  since I reinstalled the software is the backup to factory info gone from my computer?  Is there a way to check?  What is the relationship between this and Windows System Restore which is reserving 9Gb on my HD--do I need both?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Access Connections not functioning/displaying correctly

I recently (today) reset my T410 to factory settings, and have been updating my software etc.
At first (after factory restore) Access Connections worked fine; however, I then ran Lenovo System Update, and now Access Connections doesnt "see" any networks, and doesnt read as connected even though I am currently connected.
I tried downloading the most recent version (g1c796ww.exe) and installing it, but this has not solved my problem.
The internet works fine, yet Access Connections doesnt seem to be doing anything.

So, I uninstalled Access Connections and reinstalled via Lenovo Update.
It now works, yet i could only innitially connect via "details" and not  graphical... after which the graphical interface now reads  the network as being there and connected (it took a while for it to show up)
I will update whether or not this "fix" sticks.
For those of you who are like "Why use Access Connections at all?",--I like the customizable profiles (performance vs power savings, proxy etc)

  • ThinkVantage Access Connections and Limited User Account (LUA) on XP SP3

Is it really so that one has to be logged on with at least Power User privileges to get the Access Connections utility working properly with 3G/HSDPA? When logging on as a Limited User, the computer can find all the cell phone operators nearby but does not let to do a connect. But when logged on as a Power User, all problems go away.
I would not like to bump up my user privileges from Limited User to Power User, since all else seems to work fine with a Limited User Account. Any ideas about what is going wrong -- or did I just hit into a wall here?
The environment in question is Thinkpad X200 and XP SP3. Access Connections and the HSDPA driver are the latest ones I could find from the Lenovo driver download site (Access Connections v. 5.21, Ericsson HSDPA driver v. 1.0.1046.221).
Would there be any other way to use 3G connections than to use the Access Connections utility (without changing to another o/s)?

    Hi Sami,
I just got stuck on the same problem as you and following is what I found in details fro ThinkVantage Access Connections version 5.30. Hope this helps.
    Jakub
    <Limited User>
A Limited user can create and apply only modem profiles. However, if
Administrator sets "Allow Windows users without administrator
privileges to create and apply location profiles" option in the
Global settings then the user can create and apply any kinds of
      profiles in the system.
      Also, a limited user cannot:
      1. Edit setting for the Automatic Ethernet and Wireless location
         profiles switching.
      2. Edit Global settings.
      3. Edit profiles created by another user in the system.
      4. Renew or release IP in the Diagnostics panel.
      5. Export profiles.
The limitations on Power user also apply on Limited user.

  • T410 Access Connections- entry point not found

I have just clean reinstalled win7 pro, and have a bug that I have not seen in the previous 3 years of my 410's life.
Access connections cannot be opened. The access connections bars on the toolbar are grey (showing no connection), but I have a connection - so presumably win is doing the work. If the mouse gets even close to AC on the toolbar, then win explorer freezes and needs to restart (win explorer also is less predictably unstrable at other times- but presumably it is because of the conflict with AC).
Here is the error I get from inside Control panel when I try to open AC.
    Any suggestions?

    I had the same problem.
If you download 7tcx26ww.exe from Lenovo download site, it seems to work ok afterwards.
    Hope this helps.

  • Access Connections and Tools won't install properly

I have followed advice uninstalled the wireless driver, access connections, hotkey, power manager. . Reinstalled all ( latest versions) except access connection. Wireless connections work correctly and all hot keys function appropriately ( including Fn +F5 ). Then I let TVSU download Access connections. An icon is placed in the task tray. Clicking on it nothing happens. Also none of the hot keys work including the blue ThinkVantage key. Once I uninstall Access connection I am back in business with the wireless connection and the hot keys working. ( for all these installs I turned off the Microsoft virus scanner and the firewall).
Have similar problem with ThinkVantage tools in that I get the Icon in the task tray and then the program freezes. No problem in reinstalling  PC doctor5
    T60 series2007 Windows XP professional pack3.

    Hi dulverton,
I find lenovo drivers and software rather eccentric; since they need to be installed in a particular order to work properly.
First uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
Further this is the order in which the following drivers must be installed for each of them to function desirably:-
    1) Lenovo PM driver
    2) Lenovo System Interface Driver
    3) Hotkey driver
    4) Wireless driver software [reboot]
    5) Access Connections [reboot]
    Hope it helps.

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • Access Connections 5.21 corrupt - The contents of this file cannot be unpacked..

Access Connections 5.21 as posted on the ww-307.ibm.com web site is bad... if you try to install you'll get an error dialog: "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked.  The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted.  Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again.".
I think I see why... the files are being truncated at about 16 megabyates, perhaps by the web server?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4ZLNJB is the page for the Windows XP version and it points to file 7xcx23ww.exe, which is supposed to be about 26 megabytes.  But when you download the file, it gets truncated to about 16 megabytes.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67283 is the page for the Windows Vista version and it points to file 7xcv23ww.exe which is suposed to be about 35 megabytes.  But when you download the file, it also gets truncated to about 16 megabytes.
The complete files are on ftp.software.ibm.com.  Connect with your favorite ftp client, log in as anonymous with your email address as the password... then cd /pc/pccbbs/mobiles, type binary (to ensure binary transfer) and hash (to get progress hash marks) and you can use the get command (i.e. get 7xcx23ww.exe or get 7xcv23ww.exe) to fetch the file you need.
The Windows XP version appears to extract OK now (haven't installed it yet though), and the Vista version appears to be the right length.
    Good luck,

    Hi Bill,
Hmmm.  I just tried it again couple of times, and still get truncated file 7xcx23ww.exe via http download.
I could imagine an issue with my browser (Firefox) on Windows, Netgear access point or cable modem ISP and I would be reluctant to point finger at the web server.  But as I verified yesterday, 2nd download attempt with wget and linux in a shell account (accessed via ssh on box hosted far away by an entirely different ISP) also gets the truncated file.
Hope this is helping someone - if I'm only one getting the corrupt files I'll delete the post... is anyone else seeing this?
    tx,
    Rob
ps: good news - Access Connections 5.21 seems much more stable than 5.20

  • Message: "Access denied cannot connect"

Running Network Magic (5.5.9118.2-Pure0) on Windows XP SP3 (2 machines) and Vista SP1 (1 machine). Receive the message "Access denied cannot connect" when trying to print to one of two printers hardwired to the Vista machine from one of the XP machines (laptop). The Vista machine can print to the other XP machine (desktop) and the laptop can also print to this machine. I deleted the printers from the laptop, set the printer sharing off on the Vista machine, reshared the printers and I still receive the error message. File sharing across all three machines is working fine.

  • Access connections 5.85 cannot run on this profile

    Hello to lenovo forum.
I had installed on my lenovo 3000 n500 so far all new access connections packages with no problem till version 5.72.
From version 5.83 and now already 5.85 i get on start up an error saying ac cannot run on this platform.
However i can connect to internet smoothly and i can access ac user interface from start-programs menu since tray icon also misses from desktop.
    My notebook is
    Lenovo N500 (4233-4AG) 32 bit
Operating System:Windows Vista Service Pack 2
Now here starts my analysis of queries.
    1. from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67283
we can see that supported systems are among others Lenovo N100, N200 ,and this is common for versions 5.83-5.85 and earlier ones.
so my n500 is supported from both versions 5.85 and 5.72,since ac drivers for n series work on 100 200 and 500 series.
    2.So i guess it's a matter of prerequisites.
Now let's compare Software and Device Driver requirements Before installing ThinkVantage Access Connections
a.for version 5.85 that's latest which misfunctions for me when installed
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67283
with b. version's 5.72 prerequisites which is the last smoothly working on my N500 model.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/85cv28ww.txt
From comparison of the prerequisites for [For the other ThinkPad models] we can see that version 5.85 does not have any higher versions prerequisites than 5.72.
    So what is the problem?
3.My wifi lan adapter is model Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 AGN version 13..4.0 installed a year ago with no problems working with access connections 5.72 and covering prerequisites for driver version Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg) for Windows Vista version 12.4.0.21. as mentioned on lenovo site.so no real problem with this.
    4.But let's insist a liitle more on prerequisites.Maybe i really need
a.ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows Vista/XP/2000/ME/98 SE, version 1.42 or later.
b.Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 version 3.02.0000 or higher.
    Here we can see.
    a.from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-4GXPEG
that lenovo 3000 N series is not [vista] supported .
So my N500 model needs Power driver not from this url but from lenovo's support - download drivers and software selecting my configuration files i find Power Manager for Windows Vista - Lenovo G530 (MT 4446 only), N500 version
0.64.0.9 which is already installed and the latest one for my n500 model.
So no particular version exists apart from what i have already .since it works with 5.72 it should work with 5.85
lenovo has not updated any PM driver version for N500 model and i can find it  as final on support site for my model
b.now my guess refines to a driver update for hotkey features.
but access connections points to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261
where lenovo N series is not supported.
So with little search i found http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGr-68000
which seems to be the proper for n series and the right ones.
    5.Now the real questions
    1.on
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGr-68000
are these the right drivers for my n500 model on screen display?
    2. if yes latest version is 2.23.0000 http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6jvu34ww.txt
and read me file says that onscreen display version is 5.32
I have on my laptop version 5.13 of on screen display installed, may this be the upgrade to 5.32 needed to work access connections 5.85 on my n500 model right?
also i have presentation director version 4.a on my laptop and at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261 asks for hotkey features to work
"For Windows Vista/XP only) It is required to install Presentation Director version 4.04 or higher." and url redirecting there
should i have also this to upgrade?
3.from main access connections dowload page redirection to "Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 version 3.02.0000 or higher" that's http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261
we see that package 3.02 which is needed has onscreen display driver version 6.02
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6wvu50ww.txt
will version 5.32 for my n500 model when installed cover this demand for driver version?i see that system interface driver minimum demand is version 1.01 which is already installed so no real problem with this driver.

I think its because the Lenovo 3000 & Valueline Systems are going to the idea-brand so the support for thinkvantage software is ending for those systems , so you might want to go back to the version that was working

I would check with the Auto dealer where the vehicle was purchased to check and see when the bluetooth software was last updated on your vehicle. With the vehicle being a 2011 and if the software has not been updated since the dropping of IOS 7 then obviously there will be software incompatibilities.
    Good luck.

  • Cannot determine MAC address of connected Access Point using Access Connections version 5

I recently installed the newst version of Access Connections (version 5) and discovered I am unable to determine the MAC address of the connected access point.  The 'Graphical' screen shows the SSID, IP address of client etc - but does not show the MAC address of the access point.  The 'Details' screen shows the MAC address of the access points - but the radial button on the left does not indicate the cfurrently associated access point.

Is it the switch where the node is directly connected ?
Is the NIC at node side, working fine ?
Another fact to consider is, a mac will wipe itself out after the MAC-age timeout.

  • Access Connections Ethernet Location Switching only saves one port at a time

Like many other people, I cannot get automatic location switching between two Ethernet networks to work properly.
I have two stored network locations;  one for home and one for work.  Both of these are set up as Best Available Network with both Ethernet and Wireless.
Under Tools - Location Switching, both networks are listed, and "Include Ethernet connections in automatic switching and prompt me to save Ethernet ports"  is checked.    However, in the details column, the current location has 1 saved port(s), and the other has 0 saved ports.    The saved port is always the one most recently connected.
If I go to Edit Saved Ports, only one location is listed, with the correct IP address and MAC address for the router.   If I connect at the other location, only that location is listed, again with the correct IP address and MAC address.
The router IP addresses are different (work is 192.168.0.1, and home is 192.168.1.254), and obviously the MAC addresses are different, so it should be possible for Access Connections to distinguish them.  Unfortunately the only "editing" that is possible is to delete the saved port.  I would be happy to add a saved port manually, but that is not an option.  In addtion, despite the "...prompt me to save Ethernet ports" being checked, I have never received a prompt.  Even if I delete the saved port, it resaves automatically next time without any prompt.
I have also tried setting up both locations as Ethernet only, but have exactly the same problem.
My T520 was supplied with Access Connections 5.85 preinstalled.  I tried upgrading to 5.97 in the hope that it had been fixed in the meantime.  Unfortunately it has not.
Access Connections is still marginally useful to me for automatic switching between Wireless and Ethernet, and for a simple manual switch of settings such as default printer, home page, and file sharing.  However, it would be very useful for the home and work locations to be autodetected and switched.
From the number of unresolved questions on this board on the same topic, it appears that this is a long standing deficiency with Access Connections.  Is there any chance of this being fixed?

I found from another bulletin board that ethernet location switching seemed to work OK with Access Connections 3.82, but stopped working with releases after that, and from my experience still does not work with 5.97
    http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=38514
    Two questions:
    1. Does anyone know if Access Connections 3.82 works with Windows 7?
    2. If so, where could I get a copy?  The oldest version on the Lenovo website appears to be 5.50
I will refrain from commenting on the necessity of going back to such an old version to recover basic functionality for this utility......

  • Access Connections 5 and up issues

    Hi,
For years our organization has been using Access Connections 4.52 flawlessly.  Recently we purchased a boat load of R500 notebooks.  At this point, we were forced to upgrade to version 5.20 as 4.52 will not recognize the wireless card.
With 4.52, when a client would boot up wireless and attempt to login to our network , Access Connections would pop up, then attempt the login only AFTER it has connected to the network.  With 5.20, 5.33 and 5.50, this function seems to work ok until I sysprep the image.
After I sysprep our image, this is what happens:  User boots up wireless and attempts to login to our network....gets and error stating "OURDOMAIN is not available"....15 seconds later Access Connections wakes up and connects to the wireless network.  Now, here is the really dumb part.  I can resolve the issue on my image by opening Access Connections > Location Profiles > Select Profile > Edit > OK.   Access Connections will now behave properly, until I sysprep.
Is there any solution out there for this?  Or even better, is there a way I can make 4.52 work on a newer model.  4.52 did not have this issue.
    Thanks
    Rosy

    Hi,
I cannot see it being fair, to blaim Access Connection for situation, that is clearly not caused by Access Connection.
In the past I was working with multiple corporate images, which I of course had to create, which included syspreping the image. And I can tell you, that sysprepping a 100% working image is always, and I really mean ALLWAYS screwing up some part of the image. If you have been doing images for longer time, then surelly you will be agreed with me.
If you are not, then you have not created enough images manually (I mean starting with the times of RIS, going through WDS, IUB, SCCM .... ).
So much for understanding, where to look when you are looking for the root cause.
So Access Connection is a tool, that depends on other applications and driver. Almost the same as by all other TVT applicaitons. For Access Connection it's highly important, that it's installed in following order together with other tools/drivers:
    1) Power Managerment driver
    2) Power Manager
    3) System Interface driver
    4) Hotkey utility/driver
    5) LAN Driver
    6) WLAN driver
    7) WWAN driver
    8) Access Connection
It's highly important, that this order is kept.
So back to the imaging, here is what might happen, when you sysprep the image:
    - you sysprep it, where some parts (usually ini files) are remoted from the dirver installed on the machine.
    - of course you configure the sysprep to load up all the drivers depending on the HW, or some input from the client
    - this will load everything back and inclusiv all the drivers
    ISSUE:
    - WLAN, driver is installed/inicialized after Access Conenction was present in the image
    - by syspreping some of the above menitoned applications from Lenovo are taken as drivers and therefore, they are re-installed only after sysprep kicks-in
I'm pretty sure, that you know, how you install you image and by some points you might not be agreed with what I'm writing, but I was working with the informations, that I could find in your description.
I think more description on the sysprep, or the imaging tool and structure might help me imagine, what is goin on.
BTW: I just remembered, that by olders versions of AC 2.x and 3.x when such issue was present, like also LAN was not detected and all this happened after I installed a corporate image, then my fix for the image was quite simple:
Reinstall all the above drivers + apps in the order as you can see it in here .
    Cheers

  • Reinstall Access Connections Problem: X61s Vista32

I cannot get Access Connections (V5.02 and below) to function when reinstalled. Disk churns, takes forever to load and hangs if start is attempted. Checked required drivers all are ok.
Removed again but now wireless is off and refuses to come back on.
    HELP!

I just finished a lengthy fight with this very issue on my X61 Tablet.  I had tried all sorts of things to get it working.  After looking through the Access Connections documentation I decided to wipe out and reinstall everything it listed as being a prereq.  That seemed to do the trick.  It may not all be necessary but it worked for me.   Here is what I had to do to get it working again.
download the latest drivers for your wireless card, ethernet card, system interface driver, and power system. Also download a copy of access connections and power manager to be on the safe side.
Run the EXEs to extract the drivers to the c:\drivers directory but do not run any of the associated setups
    Reboot into safe mode
From Programs and Features uninstall the Power Manager, Power Management Driver, Access Connections (blow away your profiles as well), and the Lenovo System Interface driver as well as any Intel network drivers in that list.
From the device manager uninstall the network card and the wireless card.  my laptop listed a lot of goofy looking NICs in the device manger under safe mode, I uninstalled all of them as well.  the Thinkpad PM device under System Devices also showed as having an error in the device manger for me so I uninstalled it as well.
    Reboot
Open the device manger, update the drivers on the NIC and wireless card by pointing to the drivers you downloaded.  Verify that all other devices are installed and working properly.
I then ran system update and let it install Access Connections, Power Manager, and the System Interface Driver.  I'm sure you could manually install them from the packages downloaded in step one if you preferred.  Just make sure Access Connections is installed last.
It will prompt you to reboot.  After the reboot you should be all set.
One other side note, the Intel Proset install doesn't seem to play nicely with AC.  During one of the trials I did while trying to fix this I installed the full proset and that really started hanging things up.  Just my experience though.  YMMV.
