Access Connection Tray Icon disappear
Hi, I got a problem on a T61p model 8889-AB5 owned by my boss. The ThinkVantage Access Connections tray icon was disappeared occasionally. It is noticed that below registry keys were missed and I needed to add them back to get the tray icon displayed.ACTray=C:\\Program Files\\ThinkPad\\ConnectUtilities\\ACTray.exeACWLIcon="C:\\Program Files\\ThinkPad\\ConnectUtilities\\ACWLIcon.exe This T61p hardware was checked by Lenovo service center on July 2008; no problem was found and the Win XPP was reinstalled from recovery CD afterward. Does anyone encounter similar problem? Thanks, Eric
And still no improvements in version 6.11!
Can we expect a fix for this?

Hotsync Manager crashes and tray icon disappears
Hi, whenever I try to run Hotsync on my computer (XP Pro) the program immediately crashes and the icon disappears from the systray. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, reboot my pc, etcetera, but it keeps crashing.
This is the error I get:
'HotSync® Manager Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
Error signature:
AppName: hotsync.exe AppVer: 7.0.2.0 ModName: hslog20.dll
ModVer: 7.0.0.0 Offset: 0000b0b4
Anyone who can help me find a solution? Tnx.
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)I have the same issue; HotSync won't run (crashes upon start up). I removed the Palm Desktop v. 6.2 completely, downloaded the entire package again and re-installed. HotSync still won't run. This is all on my home PC (WinXP).
I have the same OS on my office machine..HotSync works there. It leads me to believe something has become corrupted with HotSync on the home PC and it isn't being fully removed during the removal process AND it's not being over written during the installation. It worked well for a few months.
Additionally, I find the Access Desktop package to be slow when searching and saving. I've just about had it with Palm devices and the lame Desktop software. -
Ipod wont stay connected and icon disappears from finder
I have a new 80g video ipod, have had it for about three weeks. Up until today all was fine, but now it won't stay connected to itunes after updating files. It connects, shows up on the desk top for a few seconds, updates any new files and then just drops out. It keeps the do not disconnect screen for a few seconds, then the red warning logo disappears and after that i can not do anything with the ipod in itunes. The ipod music list is greyed out and I can't add any new photos or change anything. The only thing I have done differently since it was last working ok was I connected my camera using the camera connector and uploaded some pictures from that.
I have done a reset and now a restore but that hasn't helped.
is the problem with the ipod or itunes? What can I do?Sorry, this may be a case of "always read the manual first"!
I think that what I thought was a fault with the ipod was in fact due to the default preference for auto syncing being enabled. As I had my previous ipod set to manual update I was used to being able to make changes to the ipods lists whilst connected, but as my new ipod is still set to automatically sync I now realise that this is why the ipods list was greyed out. In this mode it appears that it is usual that as soon as you connect, itunes updates any changes and then disconnects and the red "do not disconnect" screen on the ipod goes. If there were no new additions or changes to playlists made since the last time you connected, the sync will only take a few seconds and then the ipod screen goes back to the menu list. Also, because in auto sync the ipod will be updated with a copy of your itunes contents, the ipod's list is greyed out due to the fact that you are not able to make changes independently from your itunes list. (i.e. you have to make the changes in itunes in order for these to be replicated on the ipod).
In order to keep connected and be able to alter things on the ipod list you have to have the preference set to manually update. Then the ipods contents are not greyed out and you can add, delete and change playlists without doing this in your main itunes on the computer.
So I think I have answered my own question, unless I am still misunderstanding something here, and the moral is, download and read the manual properly before worrying that there is something wrong with the machine!
I still think its a bit weird that the ipod icon disappears from he desktop though as I thought it would be at least recognised as being attached even if not in disc mode. Should it still show in the finder anyway? -
Access Connection SMS Menu disappeared!!!!
I have a T61p, a T400 and a T410 and all 3 of them running w7 Access Connections 5.61 and same problem the sms menu does not show up. I managed to solve the problem on my T61 with the Sierra Manager software which can handle the internal WWAN Sierra card, but for the other 2 which have the Ericsson F3507g nothing can be done as the Sony Ericsson Software does not recognize the WWAN Card!!!
Unfortunately my mobile operator requires me to send an SMS prior to connect 3G so I basically need to take he SIM out use a phone send the SMS, and stick it back in the laptop.
Anyone know which version of access connection has sms still working? for W7? where to download?
Lenovo hope you read this forum, getting a lot of people with the same issue...
Thank you

i only see
1) SIM

power manager: 3.20
driver version: where do i find this?
hotkey utility: not installed? ... i can't find it (but all lenovo buttons work fine)
system interface driver: ... again, where do i find it?

Access Connections Application Tray Problem
I have brand new Lenovo series T61. Plenty of RAM and diskspace. New install. XP PRO SP2. When I change locations the first crash item I get is Access Connections Tray. Followed by several other tray items and then any open applications that require an internet connection. If I use ethernet I do not get any crashing. It is hard to reproduce at one location as it only happens when the laptop is moved between home and work. It happens at either location. It seems to be wireless related. Anyone else seeing this? Thanks, Kevin
Hi,
This is a common situation, when there is only an upgrade of once component upgrade, like Access connection and the ret is not upgraded.
In this case I would advice to perform following steps:
- uninstall AC
* reboot the machine
- install the latest version of following apps in following order (don't use TVSU)
.NET 3.5 SP1
* reboot
Power management driver
Power Manager
System Interface driver
Hotkey utility
Wifi driver (NOT from intel.com, but from lenovo.com)
* reboot the machine
- install Access connection 5.6x
* reboot the machine
This will inicialize the Wifi driver components with the latest version of AC.
Let me know, your update on this one.
What is the system, that you are using? T60?....
Cheers -

Solved!
Go to Solution.I share your pain with same Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn. After many, many hours yesterday I am now solidly running Wireless N at 144 Mbps on a LinkSys E4200, 99% reception from 30 feet away.
Previous to yesterday I could not get 'N' to work at all.
First, if you have a newer dual frequency Router, this Intel adapter only supports 2.4ghz..
1. I am using Access Connections 5.85, Windows 7
2. Router: 2.4 Ghz Network Mode: Mixed
3. On my LinkSys router Channel: Auto NEVER worked for either 'G' or 'N'. I picked channel 4 by chance and things got better. No further experiments.
3. Channel Width: Auto (20mhz or 40mhz).
4. Earlier forums indicate WPA2-P and AES must be selected. That's what I am running.
5. Numerous references to "power" conflicts. Set all Power Management to Maximum Power.
(Control Panel -> Device Manager ->Network Adapters -> Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn -> Power Management)
(Access Connections -> Wireless Settings -> 4. Advanced Configuration-> Maximum Performance)
If you followed these steps, Wireless G should be working stabily for you now.
Now for the secret sauce to make Wireless N work: go to http://communities.intel.com/message/82098#82098
See Feb 3, 2010 post How to get 5100 AGN to connect at N speed?
I am indebted to this guy.
Save the instructions! For some reason my EDGE 14 wireless totally quit this week and that's what sent me down this wireless rabbit hole again. At least this time I was able to make N mode work for the first time.
Frustrated but relieved,

HI Everyone,

after 10 min the airplay icon disappear at my IPad and iPhone and even resetting the network connection is not helping , please please please some one help !!!Avielofer wrote:
BTW, it changing the wi-fi channel is necesary please explain how to do so.
It's not necessary, but is a good troubleshooting step. How to do so varies from brand to brand. Look at the manufacturers website, they should have a manual available that explains how to access the settings and change it.
Avielofer wrote:
The ATV connected to the routher via wi-fi , but both sitting on the same shelf.
In that case, I would strongly encourage you to connect them via a short Ethernet cable. The proximity of the two devices could be the culprit in the video quality issues. -

Can't connect to WiFi networks via tray icon, manually adding works fine
I've searched for about a day for anyone having a similar issue and have come up with nothing so far. I have an older HP laptop with Windows 7 32 bit that is having issues with connecting to WiFi networks. It will find all available wireless
networks just fine, and when I select mine, it comes up with the prompt to enter my password, however when I hit OK to connect, the prompt disappears and nothing happens or responds afterwards. A few things that I've tried in order to troubleshoot and
narrow down the problem:
-I've tried connecting to two different wireless networks; one with WPA2 encryption and one with no encryption, both have the same issue (obviously the non-encrypted wireless network doesn't prompt for a password, but once I hit connect all prompts disappear
and acts as if I did nothing).
-I've added the WPA2 encrypted network manually to my list of wireless networks, and once I do this it connects just fine. When removed, it disconnects and the issue happens again (this confirms that the wireless password I'm entering is correct and
that there are no issues with the wireless network itself, as well as other devices working flawlessly on the same wireless network).
-I've disabled all firewalls and antivirus through this whole process, did not make a difference.
-I've reset winsock which didn't make a difference.
-I've run a virus scan, no viruses on the laptop.
I've run out of ideas as to what would prevent being able to connect to a wireless network through the normal process of finding nearby access points, putting in your password, and having it work. I understand that I could simply leave the wireless
network added manually, but this is not an option for when the laptop is taken elsewhere as having to add whatever wireless network I'm near manually is not something that should have to be done.I would recommend to update the driver for you wireless nic as a first step. Also, if installed, get rid of third party utilities that 'manage' your wireless network(s)
Also check if you can
clear out the remembered connections i've encountered issues before when a network with same ssid but different connection settings was stored by windows.

Airplay icon disappears from iTunes when I connect a third idevice
I own an iPad 2, an iPhone 4 and Iphone 4S. After a clean install of itunes, Airplay works well. When I plug in first 2 devices (no matter which one and in what order), everything works well for several days with several reboots of PC. When I decided to connect the third device, Airplay still works but after rebooting the PC, the icon disappears completely! However I always see my 3 devices in sync by WiFi.
I made the test twice by changing the order of connections between devices, and the result is the same: Airplay works with 2 connections but no more after the third’s?
Windows 7 64bits and iTunes is up to date.Hello, I have this exact same problem -- Airport Express bought Feb. 2014 (not sure of firmware version?) Windows 8 PC, multiple iPads, iPhones in home. Wireless provider Comcast in S.F. Bay Area (using their Xfinity modem / router) extremely reliable and very fast for 10+ years.
Every few days Airport Express icon in iTunes on Windows PC turns orange and requires PC reboot. Upon reboot, streaming music works fine. Have also tried all other fixes found on Support forums, etc.
On iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S and both iPad 2s Airport Express icon is always available and always seems to work fine.
Strangely enough, after replacing iPhone 3GS with iPhone 5s (yesterday!), Airport Express was not available on new iPhone, but after quick reboot of Airport Express, new iPhone was able to stream music...
Windows 8, iTunes, etc. updated w/ latest versions, etc.
Definitely a pain having to re-boot PC every few days to re-connect to Airport Express... -

Solved!
Go to Solution....never mind....downgraded Access Connection to 5.93 and could shrink the sidebar.....good example of how newer doesn't always mean better :-)
