Access Database Opens in Read Only for Users

I just moved an Access Database to a new server (from Server 2003 to Server 2012). From the server, using Office 2010, I can open the database without issue but, if a user try's to open the same database from either a shortcut or mapped with Office 2010,
they get the message that the database is Read Only. Did I miss a step in moving the database to the new server? Thanks

Hi,
Did your user get the error message "You are trying to open a read-only database..."? If it was, please try the following method:
On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
Locate the Microsoft Access database that you moved.
Right-click the database name, and then click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, clear the Read-only check box under
Attributes.
Click OK to apply the change.
Open your database in Access.

Hope it's helpful.

  • MS Access 2007 opening in read only for a client

    Hi all,
I have a client that is using a shared database with 6 other people in their office. He is the first one to move to Windows 7.
He can open the database without any problem, but it opens as read only. I've seen others with similar issues in this and other forums. I wondered if there are solutions out there for this?

Here you can add the fomatting action on the field to disable the field if those users belong to certain Sharepoint group (does not matter the permission levels though). Hope it helps.

  • Database opens as read only

I have installed the application of mine to the my computer and the other computer that are running on Windows 7 64 bit and all of the function are worked fine (adding the data to the database through system, delete a single data or clear all of the data from
the database through system, edit the data in the database through system and look at whether the user has correct login username and password from the database through system).
But, when I installed the application of mine to the other computer that are running on Windows 7 32 bit, all of the functions not worked (object reference not set to the instance of the object when I want to adding the data to the database), but the user can
login to the system (look at whether the user has correct login username and password from the database through system), but all of the functions except that (login to the system), are not worked, and when I open the database, the database has been opened
as read-only. This problem has been bugged me, because I have been searching what's is the problem and cannot find the problem at all.
Anyone know what is the problem? Is it the operating system that restricted the database to be accessed by 64 bit only?
    Thank you very much!
    Your answer much appreciated!

  • All USB drives mount as read only for user

I have searched a bunch and thee results I find seem to be irrelevant to my situation. Most relate to a single USB media that is a problem and won't read or write.
On a new Arch install on a new computer (my third base system install). Running Gnome.
All USB mass storage devices mount as read only for the logged in user. Root has write permissions and I can mkdir no problem. It is not an issue with the USB drive itself as this occurs with multiple USB media (I've tested several SD cards on a reader and at least two drives, all the media works correctly on my existing installations)

I am also having the same problem. Root can read and write to automounted drives, but my user cannot. I've tried with a variety of drives, I am assuming they are being automounted by root instead of the logged-in user somehow. (I am running x directly, and am not using a display manager, if that has anything to do with it).
When I look at how it is mounted it is as follows:
    /dev/sdc1 on /run/media/myuser/drivename type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0022,dmask=0077,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,flush,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)

    SQL> startup mount
SQL> ALTER DATABASE OPEN READ ONLY
this will open database for read only mode for all user
i want to give read write access on database to one user
any idea how i can proccess
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Alter database open read only;
this should work fine and everything will be in read only mode. Hence if any auditing is going on and audit_trial=db then it fails to open the database in read only mode.
If you want to control only users to stop writing to it, you may remove tablespace quotas for those users. Also, you may control them through grants. Remove any current grants assigned to them or to roles through which the grants are assigned.
Several ways to do this. If you tell us the particular scenario then we might help in getting a solution.

  • I am having trouble with an excel file wanting to save when no changes were made & opening as read only for the 2nd person - but allowing them to save the file.

    1) I am having trouble with an excel file wanting to save when no changes were made.  As soon as you open the file and exit.  It prompts for a save.
    All excel versions are 15.0.4701.1002.
    Using a table.
the functions CELL, OFFSET, TODAY, INDIRECT, NOW, INFO and RAND are not being used.
    2) Same file.   2nd person is being told they are opening the file as read only - but when they are quitting excel prompts them to save the file.
Everything was working fine.  I started having problems with Excel, IT wiped my version out and re-installed office.
File is on networked server HP - Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
We are all on Windows 8.1 Pro.
I really hope someone can help - the excel expert had no answer - and passed me along to here.

I copied the whole file and started deleting worksheets one at a time and testing it by closing it and re-opening it then closing it again – to see if it wanted to save.
Once all the pivot tables were deleted – the problem went away.
I found that some of the pivot tables had automatic refresh upon open, so this caused the excel to think data had changed.
It is fixed now.  By clicking on one cell of the pivot table, analyze, options, data and uncheck the 3rd square down to not automatically refresh.  NOT A NETWORK ISSUE.

  • MS Access database opens read only

An Access application with linked databases opens read only, but sometimes is editable. The system was developed in Access 10 on a Win 7 machine and migrated to a standalone laptop running Win 8 and Office 365.
The Access 10 has no problem in operating the application. The Win 8 laptop randomly opens the application read only. I have reviewed Trust settings and there is no difference between the different laptops and systems.
Is this a common problem? Is it associated with Win 8? Is it associated with Access form Office 365? The application is crucial to the business and we are getting way behind because we don't have a reliable or useful system. Last year the same application
ran satisfactorily on Win 7 and Access 10.
I would welcome some thoughts leading too a solution.

    Hi,
Did you get the error message like "You are trying to open a read-only database". If yes, this issue may be due to the permission of the Access database. If we migrate the Access database from Access 2010 to Access 2013, the user/account's permission
may be changed with different Windows operation system. We need the full control permission of the Access database. To workaround this issue, follow these steps:
On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
Locate the Microsoft Access database that you moved.
Right-click the database name, and then click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, clear the Read-only check box under
    Attributes.
Click OK to apply the change.
    Open your database in Access.
Please note: Make sure the user has full control of the root folder.
If no, please tell us the whole error message, we'd like to do further troubleshooting.

    Hi
Object can become invalid, if the underlying objects are dropped/invalidated.
So even if you create or validate the underlying objects these objects by themself do not become valid. You have to either make them valid or you should use it atleast one time as select/desc or any other query so that Oracle implicitly make it valid.
Your source datatabase has valid synonym because after dropping/creating you must have selected that synonym atleast one, but this selection procedure would be after you copied your data to the target database.

  • Generating EXPLAIN PLAN on a database which is opened in READ-ONLY mode

    Hi,
I am using Oracle 10.2.0.3 version.
If my database is opened in READ-ONLY mode, means no insert/update/delete operations are permitted here.
While generating EXPLAIN PLAN for any SQL, it does entries in PLAN_TABLE. But my database is opened in READ-ONLY mode, means no inserts can happen.
So how can I generate EXPLAIN PLAN for my SQL in this condition?
    Thanks in advance.

You can always do: "explain plan into some_table@remote_database" to avoid inserting into the local database. Unfortunately 10g added a sequence fetch to the "explain plan" code, and this is where the call would fail if you tried this remote approach on your version.
Here's an idea I haven't tested. If you set up a database link from your production database to the read-only database, you could then do an "explain plan" in the production database for the SQL statement by changing every object reference in the SQL statement to "object@readonlydatabase". In most cases this will allow the optimizer to recognise the statement as "fully remote" and get the optimizer on the readonly database to create the execution plan - which would then be written to the production database.

  • Possible to make an item editable for certain users and read only for other

Is it possible to make an item editable for certain users and read only for others?
I've been able to accomplish this by taken the select statement that I used to define an authorization scheme, placing it in the Read Only condition of the item. However, I would like to simply reference the authorization scheme to utilize caching, and to help keep things cleaner for future maintenance.
Is it possible to reference an authorization scheme in an item condition similar to the way another item can be referenced by preceding it with a colon (i.e. :P1_First_Name)?

    Thank you, your suggestion worked.
It would be nice on a future release of APEX if a drop-down box existed under the Ready Only section that would allow an existing Authorization Scheme to be selected or negated when applying the Read Only attribute to a form item.

  • After applying FQDN with SSL sharepoint2010 document library's document open as Read Only

    Hi,
we have sharepoint server 2010 installed in windows server 2008 R2. We build a document library. After that we installed Office Web Apps. Now,edit in Browser or edit in word/excel etc. all options are working fine.
After that, we configured the site with FQDN (Fully Qualified Doman Name) with SSL. Now, the
edit in browser mode is working fine form both server and client machine (for both windows and form based users).
But, When we are trying toedit in word or other office application mode, the files open as Read Only mode (both from server and client machine).
The users cannot save the file.
After trouble shooting a lot, we found many forum says to edit windows registry or do some other operation on client machine. But, in our case it is not possible to edit registry or do some other experiment on every client's machine.
Is their any option to solve the problem from server end, so that each client automatically can open the office files on their own PC and save them to server (instead of re uploading the files to server )?
Please, help us to give the suggestion for solving our problem.
    Thanks,

Is Alternate Access Mappings configured correctly? Is the behavior consistent across different browsers? What are you seeing in ULS logs when the document is being opened from the library?
This post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Slalom.

  • OS X Server files open as read only on client machines.

Recently, users became unable to save changes to any file on our server or add any file to any folder on our server. The server folders and files are all opening as read only on the client machines. Currently, the users are all assigned to a group, we'll call it "companyusers", this group is granted full read/write access. On the Get Info dialog box for each file on the server, the group "companyusers" is accurately displayed under sharing and permissions with Read & Write privileges, however under the Get Info dialog box for each client machine, the group "companyusers" is non-existent. Only a name titled "(unknown)" and "everyone" is showing up. Any ideas on why the "companyusers" group is not showing up on the sharing and permissions section for the client machines?

I think I found the fix. Looks like it works in my quick test.
    I read this post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8278602&#8278602
Basically in Server Admin, I went to the 'File Sharing Tab' at the top of the window
    Clicked on 'Share points'
    High-lighted my Share Point
Below in the window, clicked on Share Point
    Clicked on Protocol Options...
    Clicked on SMB
Clicked on Assign as Follows - and I made everything Read & Write.
