Access Denied when saving file - CS5 & Win7

Using Dreamweaver CS5 and Win7...  Sporatically, I will try to save my .html file and will get an error saying "access denied" to the .tmp file.  So I do a "Save As" to another file name and then the original file literally disappears (is deleted / erased) from my hard drive.  No where to be found!
Has anyone else had this experience?  Is there a work around?
Godspeed,
Omar

Here's the solution (as I learned from other forum posts):
- Disable the Preview Pane in Windows 7...
or
- Simply "deselect" the file in Windows Explorer (thus deactivating the "Preview" of the file) and try to save it again.  The "Save As" dialog will appear and you can save it with the same name.
What is actually happening:
When a file is selected in Windows Explorer and the Preview Pane is enabled, Windows 7 displays the file (and locks it).  If the file is also open in Dreamweaver and any modifications are made, the file is considered a temp (.tmp) file by Windows as it is already in use by the Preview Pane (and locked).  When you try to save the modified file in Dreamweaver, you get the "Access Denied" error.  If you go into Windows Explorer and deselect the file, the file will disappear (be deleted / removed) as Windows now considers it a "temp" file that is no longer being previewed. At this time (assuming you didn't close the file in Dreamweaver) you can try to save it again and a "Save As" dialog will open (since the original file was deleted).
Hope this helps!

Omar

  • Access Denied when Posting Files

I've been trying to update the index file on my site. I haven't touched any setting in Dreamweaver on this site. It will not allow me to post this file or any others. I quit and restarted the program and deleted and rebuilt the site and am still getting the following message when I try to upload the files:
    Started: 8/10/10 12:54 PM
    Connected to [my server].
index.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put index.html.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files with errors: 1
    index.html
    Finished: 8/10/10 12:54 PM
When I "TEST" my login and password, it connects successfully to the site. I have no idea what to do. I am admittedly in the dark on Dreamweaver and have very little understanding of basic coding.
    I'm on an iMac6,1 in OS 10.5.8; Dreamweaver CS3
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Have you tried to FTP the file directly to see if it is a server issue or a DW issue?
If you don't have an FTP program, you should. Here's a great free one that is a FireFox plug in.

  • Access Denied when saving in Vista

    Hello everyone,
On some occasions, when I'm editing my website and saving a CSS file a message popups saying access to the file is denied. If I try to delete or rename the file with Windows Explorer it also says access denied. It seems the file is locked because I cant open it in any program, delete it or rename it.
After about 10 minutes, the file is back to normal. Im on Windows Vista, with Dw Cs4 and I use Firefox to test my website.
I've tried to take permission of the folder and Dreamweaver isnt saving using a temp file. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

This is a "feature" of Vista's security system. The solution is in the reply from Badcrew in the following page: http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=13343.
How did I find the answer? By typing access denied vista into the Search Forums field at the top right of this page. The search system in this forum is quite powerful, so it's always worth trying.

  • Access to {filename} was denied  (when saving in CS5)

    Dreamweaver CS5
    Mac OS 10.6.4
When I try to save a file on our OS X server (across the network), it gives me this error.
I have went into the server and made sure I am the "owner" of the file.  Then when I try to edit the file and save again, it gives me the same error.
    Any suggestions?
    Kevin

I suggest checking with your Network Administrator to make sure you have read/write (etc.) permissions. It could be that you can be the "owner" and still not have permission to do what you want... Seems to me that "write" permission alone doesn't let you "read" or "delete" etc. Perhaps it is the folders in which you want to save the files that needs permissions set, as well. If there is documentation on your network, it might also have words of wisdom here.
And perhaps this will bounce this question to the top, so that someone who knows about these things can respond!

  • Why is access denied when saving page

Getting denied access when trying to save a page in CS5.5.  Had to load on new computer after other one crashed.

In general, a file cannot be saved if it is open in another program such as Windows preview.

  • Access Denied When Saving

I just "upgraded" to Windows 7.  Now, I cannot edit my dreamweaver CS4 files and save them to my folder.  It says "access (folder) was denied".  Furthermore, when I do change the files and try to view them in either IE or FF, it shows a connection error.  Any thoughts?

  • Access denied when saving fla originated on another computer

How can this be avoided when a team is working on the files?
A large website, many fla files and many are opened/changed then
saved... Files are usually created on one computer then downloaded
to another for some work (through local network) and sent back and
forth this way... until now we have been saving in a new folder
each time, but there are well over 30 files in some sites... anyway
    to avoid this?
all computers are Mac... an iMac G5, a powerbook and a
PowerMac G5 all with 10.4.7 or 10.4.6 with Flash Pro 8

I'm a PC guy, Permissions in Windows Active Directory causes
similar problems, maybe your network has something similar. Running
crossways with a source control system could do that too.
Dreamweaver has source control built in - is anyone in your group
trying to run that? And SWFs included in a web build are getting
    entangled?
Anyway, source control for your work group is a good idea.
Files are kept in one place on a server, a developer 'checks the
file out' to work on it, returns it to the same place when done.
Everyone knows where to go, only one person at a time can work on a
file, older versions are kept transparently in a 'history', backups
of the entire project are easy to set up.

I keep getting this error in Dreamweaver when I am trying to upload my website?  Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?  here is the error message: /html - error occurred - Unable to create remote folder /html.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.  File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.  Files with errors: 1 /html

Nobody can tell you anything without knowing exact site and server specs, but I would suspect that naming the folder "html" wasn't the brightest of ideas, since that's usually a default (invisible) folder name existing somewhere on the server and the user not having privileges to overwrite it.

  • Can you still access Adobe PDF SAVED FILES WHEN YOU GET A NEW COMPUTER

Can you still access Adobe PDF SAVED FILES WHEN YOU GET A NEW COMPUTER ? Do you loose the files you have saved on you old computer when you get another computer?

I may not be clear on what you are asking here but I'll try an answer anyway since that's the type of guy I am.
If you have PDF files on your old computer, you will need to transfer them to your new computer. You can use a flash drive or CD if needed.
But again, I think I'm not getting what you are really wanting to know. If I'm not, can you give us some more details?

    Hi,
If you are able to open the same document earlier, then  anonymous access enabled on your doc library then.
If you are facing this problem in first time, then you do not have required permission (may be custom permission level has been set ) on it.

  • Access Denied to report file on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise

    Hi,
I have a deployment problem for which I am out of ideas. I have an ASP.NET web site deployed on a server running Windows Server 2003 R2, sp2.  It makes extensive use of Crystal Reports, including both displaying them and e-mailing them to specified recipients as PDF files. It all works great.
Now I need to port the web site to a different server, running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, sp1. The reports display fine as long as I am not trying to convert it to PDF for e-mailng. When it gets to the following line in my code:
    MemoryStream memStream = (MemoryStream)rptDoc.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat);
    It reports the following error:
Access denied.Error in File JobDetails {DC64A5D3-9DD7-4E4C-90F5-A08731409B29}.rpt:
Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.
I finally got it to work by granting Modify permission to Everyone for the c:\Windows\Temp folder. Obviously this is not a good practice.  Granting Full Control  to the IUSR_servername account did not solve the problem on Windows Server Enterprise, although it did the trick on R2.
So the question is, which account needs which permission to the Temp folder to enable the PDF to get written?
    Thanks.
    Dan

What ever account the app is running under will need read / write permissions on the temp folder. Your working server should be a good place to look to see how the premissions were set there. The same will apply to any other server(?).

  • Photoshop cs4 access denied when trying to install from disc in Windows 7 64bit.

Photoshop cs4 access denied when trying to install from disc in Windows 7 64bit. I tried it in
safe mode and it starts to install but get an error there as well.
    What do I do?

So when you put the disk in it won't run correctly? When the disk is inserted you should have a window pop up with 2 options. 1 to install and the other to see what is on the disk. Choose to explore or open the disk. Go to the CS4 folder where the photoshop .exe file is (that will run the setup), right click on the .exe file and choose run as Admin and it should start. See if it will install. If not then read below.
I am not sure how far you got in the install before so chances are you will have to run the CS4 cleanup utility. 2 levels to run at but don't use 1 or 2 just type in the number 3.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
You may need to run the windows installer cleanup utility too
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Before you try to reinstall the software ensure that adobe reader is not installed. If it is remove it. It has caused issues in the past with vista and CS4 installs.
Also turn off windows Defender and any anti-virus software. You can keep UAC on in Windows 7.
During the CS4 install at 90 percent it will almost stop and may take 5 to 10 mins to finish. This is normal. What a pain huh......
    After install is finished, reboot
After reboot, go to the CS4 64 bit or 32 bit icon (depends on 32 or 64 bit Windows 7) in start area, right click on CS4 64 bit (if you have windows 7 64 bit) and choose properties, compatibility tab and then check run as Admin at the bottom area. Hit apply, ok to close out.
Now start CS4 and run the updater.

  • Script to require user to update comments in info window when saving file?

I work in a print production department where many different people are modifying files (InDesign, photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) on a central network every day. Users copy the file they want to work on to their desktop, modify it, and then replace the original on the network with the modified version.
It can happen, though, that either someone doesn't save their work back to the network--or the opposite, where someone inadvertently overwrites a file on the network with a version that isn't as recent. Unfortunately, the information window (the one that you can access by right-clicking a file or, in the Finder column view, clicking on the "Get Info" button) doesn't identify the most recent user of a file--just the date created, modified, last opened, etc. When files on the server are incorrect for whatever reason, it can be difficult to figure out what happened. This info can be entered manually in the "Comments" field, but users either forget or are too busy to add that step into their routine.
Can a script to written that will prompt/require them to add at least their initials, date last changed, and for what reason, in the comments field before saving? It would be ideal if the script could somehow prompt users to do this only when saving files to the network--or, failing that, at least only prompt them once if they're just saving a file they've already dragged to their desktop back to the desktop for backup reasons.
Is this possible? Truly, I know almost nothing about AppleScript, but someone here was really, really helpful last week with a file-comparison script that has saved lives already. I'm trying to learn more, but meanwhile, I thought I'd ask.
Thank you so much in advance!

I can't see any way of doing this.
It would require hooks into every application's Save dialog, which just isn't an option.
The only possible way it might work is a folder action on the network folder that somehow adds the username to the comments field of any file as it's transferred to the server. Not quite the same thing, and I've no idea how folder actions work in a multi-user environment but it might be worth a try.
The problem may be that every users' system will see the new file getting added, so every system tries to fire off the folder action, with unpredictable results.

  • Contribute 6.5 "Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."

    Help.
After being forced to upgrade to 6.5 since my version would not work after upgrading to Mavericks OS I get the "Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem." error on one of the sites I manage when trying to publish an edit to a page.
I have looked at prior fixes but none seen to apply to version 6.5
I have uninstalled, reinstalled and now have a fresh install on a new computer and still the issue persists.
I'll appreciate any help to resolve this issue.

  • Photoshop CS6 – Error When Saving Files

When saving files using Photoshop CS6 I randomly receive an error message that states 'Could not save image_name.tif' because of a program error'. Sometimes a save-as works but not guaranteed. The file is being saved to a mounted server volume and sometimes the only way to get the file on the server is to save to the desktop and then copy the file back to the server. The error message does not appear on any other Adobe applications, just Photoshop.

Moved from the Creative Cloud to the Photoshop forum. They will be able to help you here.
