Access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

how to access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

Yes, you can remotely access files in the TC..
Did you read the apple instructions and do them??
http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
It does depend on the main router being upnp or NAT-PMP capable.. so the best is if the TC is the main router.. otherwise you may have to manually forward the ports.

  • Can I watch video files stored in time capsule on my wireless tv

I'm looking to buy a time capsule because I store all my movies on hard drives that are wired into my entertainment system and it's time to clean it up. But first I want to know if I can use the time capsule as a main memory hub that all my wireless devices can access my movie and music collection.

This is always a hard question to answer.. I have no idea what format your movie and music collection is in.. nor what media player or TV you have.
But if it is iTunes library .. a TC is worse than useless.
It has no media extenstions.. it is a dumb store.. you will need a computer running iTunes to stream the file to the TV or media player.. and that means all files are double handled (if stored on the TC) and if you use wireless will possibly cuase major issues with movies stuttering. Also TC is not able to backup itself, so any files placed on the TC will not be backed up and Time Machine cannot backup network drives. So you have a major issue with keeping the library alive.
If you mean standard movie files.. the TV must be able to read raw movie files.. most cannot.. they need DLNA extensions.. remember TC has no extensions.
You can play raw movie files if you use a real media player.. eg WD live TV but the other conditions still apply.. no backup.. potentially slow and much more difficult to use than a USB drive plugged straight into the WD live TV. WD even allows the USB drive to be shared to the network to load movies directly onto it.

  • Possible to access files/folders on Time Capsule?

I'm thinking of buying a Time Capsule. If I backup my Mac with Time Machine, will I then be able to eg. see the pictures from my mac on another Mac in the network? In other words; is it possible to access files and folders instantly from the Time Capsule?

If you mean Time Machine backups, technically you can use it for both, but it presents some problems.
See #Q3 in [Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule|http://web.me.com/pondini/TimeMachine/TimeCapsule.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for details and a couple of workarounds.

  • I have iTunes on an external HD. Can I access it through my Time Capsule via USB connection?

To save space on my MacBook Pro, I've transferred iTunes to an external HD. Can I plug the external HD into the USB connection on my Time Capsule and thereby access my music, etc?

Is it possible to connect an external drive to the time capsule that I could use to store and access my primary iTunes files?

  • Accessing files remotely using Time Capsule

    Hi there
I am thinking of buying a Time Capsule, as I am looking for a way of not only having the wonderful 802.11n and Time Machine all in one box, but also the ability of remoteley accessing a folder to read/write to. Is this possible on the drive which comes with TC?
Really appreciate anyone's help on this.

This tutorial should tell you everything you need to know. http://funwithosx.blogspot.com/2009/01/remote-backups-to-network-attached.html
At the end, the author states that they don't think it will work with a Time Capsule, however I have tried it and it does.

  • Can I access my iMac backup file on my Time Capsule with Time Machine from my Powerbook G4?

I've got a 1.5 Ghz PowerPc Powerbook G4. My iMac Intel was recently stolen, however I still have the Time Capsule it continually backed up to. The Powerbook is running Leopard and has the Time Machine app. Does anyone know how I can (somehow) connect with my Powerbook to the Time Capsule left behind to transfer some documents off of it to my Powerbook even though it is not the Powerbook's designated backup server (drive)? Realize that my Powerbook already can access files from the Time Capsule but not the iMac backup. What I'm interested in is going into my iMac's backup file by using Time Machine on my Powerbook to grab some files from the iMac's history. Can this be done?If so, let me know.

If you mount the sparse bundle via finder. Then you can open it in the Time Machine display.. it might be difficult between versions..

Sorry to hear you iMac was stolen.. not the sort of thing that would be normally taken.

  • File search on Time capsule doesn't seem to work anymore ?

    Hello,
I have my music files stored on time capsule. and I have a backup on a USB drive.
When I search for a certain word as part of the file name, the search on time capsule returns very few entries now, in some cases zero.
However searching on backup for instance returns over 500 entries. The files are available on time capsule and they play via iTunes,
but since I installed Lion, the search doesn't find them.
    what is wrong?
    thanks for any help!

If you do not have Finder open to any folder or are not using iPhoto or Mail, this is normal. With no apps open, you are at your desktop. Hence, if you click on the Time Machine icon, your desktop is what appears. Don't drag stuff onto your desktop. That's totally unnecessary. Try again with Finder open.

  • Can I share the files on the time capsule for all of the macs on my network and can I access time capsule from my laptop while out of town?

I have a iMac desktop and a macbook pro.  If I purchase a time capsule, can I use it as the central location for my files for both computers?  Can I access the files on the time capsule from my macbook pro when I am out of town?

Yes, with some provisos.. it is designed as primarily a backup location for Time Machine.
Look at Pondini who has a great deal of info in his KB of all things Time Machine .. as well as Time Capsule.
    Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Remote access is via BTMM and iCloud.. just look it up.
But the TC must be the main router in the network for it to work.

  • Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro?
Yes, if you are asking about using Time Machine to backup the Mac.
Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?
You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you?  If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose.

  • I cannot access the external hard drive connected to my time capsule via wifi

I have two external hard drives (a WD mybook and an older Seagate, both HFS+ formatted) connected via a USB hub to my time capsule (which is also my wifi router).
Here's the funny thing: If I a connect my mac mini to the time capsule via an ethernet cable, both disks show up as normal in Finder - along with 'Data' under Time Capsule under Shared.
But if I disconnect the ethernet cable and connect to the router via wifi, there's no sign at all of the two disks - not in Finder, and not under 'Disks' in the Airport Utility.
Anyone out there with a solution?!

Hi William, and thanks for replying.
I do have a guest network set up (for exactly that reason that guests don't get access to shared disks) but am definitely not connected to it.
So sadly it has to be something else.

  • How to improve the speed for backing up files to time capsule via in hose wifi?

How to improve the speed for backing up files to time capsule via in hose wifi?

    via in hose wifi?
    Use a bigger hose??
    House??
Need to spell this out a bit more..
But speed via 2.4ghz to the TC is restricted by Apple to max 130mbps link speed.. much slower actual transfer.. latest TC and laptops can do 450mbps on 5ghz but you need to be up close.. so place the TC near the device using it.. and force 5ghz connection by using a different name for 5ghz network.

  • Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

The Apple TV looks for iTunes, which is likely on your computer.
I know of no way to "tell" the Apple TV to look for anything. It is pre-programmed to look for iTunes, iPhoto, etc.

  • Can I access my Time Capsule via web, even if it´s not connected to a mac??

Can I access my Time Capsule via web, even if it´s not connected to a mac??

Yes, but the issue is the IP address. If you have a static IP from your ISP it is easy.. Or if you use another router with dyndns it is easy.. but Apple make it exclusive to their network so you can have loads of issues without a computer to function as a client for dns.
Look up remote Time Capsule access .. there is plenty of info out there.
