Access Font Book in Time Capsule

I recently wiped my drive clean and upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I moved the Time Capsule Font Book to my desktop and it won't let me open it ... "Can't use this version of the application Font Book with this version of Mac OS X. You have Font Book 2.1" - the Font Book in my current Applications folder is version 2.2.1 - how can I view/access/move the fonts from the backed-up 2.1 version to the new 2.2.1 version?

I have now, since my posting, discovered that the fonts don't actually reside in the Font Book, but in other folders ... they will be in one of five different folders ... primarily your /System/Library/Fonts folder, /Library/Fonts, ~/Library/Fonts (from your user account directory), /Network/Library/Fonts, or /System Folder/Fonts.
"Of these five directories, only three of those will most likely be used by most of OS X's user base."

  • Access to a external time capsule through my home time capsule

How can I access my parents timecapsule through my own at home?
I have no problems in accessing my own time capsule through for example the network at work (using Automator - and a quite old apple Airport/router).
But if I'm at home, and on the home network established through my own time cap, I can't get access to i.e. my parents time cap - again using Automator.
Also I can't get access to my own time capsule through my parents time capsule...
    WHY????
    ...and what can I do?
    The answer I get is:
The server may not be available or is not available right now. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

    If this is still actual:
The easiest and cheapest you can do is to connect your Macbook to your amplifier. There are several options for that. If your Macbook has optical out (in the headphone/line-out connector), use that for best quality. Otherwise, use a USB DAC or a Griffin iMic. Alternatively, get a DisplayPort to HDMI converter, and use one of your amplifiers HDMI inputs (in that case all you need is a nice external display or a projector and you have yourself the beginning of a home cinema).

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

how to access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

Yes, you can remotely access files in the TC..
Did you read the apple instructions and do them??
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
It does depend on the main router being upnp or NAT-PMP capable.. so the best is if the TC is the main router.. otherwise you may have to manually forward the ports.

  • Can i access my data on time capsule from some other network

can i access my data on time capsule from some other network that is my data at home from office over internet

There is plenty of info out there if you google..
Here is a summary I just put into another thread.
Remote access has been added back into iCloud that was in MobileMe..
Read the info on setting it up from cloud service.. BTMM.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
If you want to do it without the cloud service, you have one major issue.. the public IP for WAN..
The internal IP of the TC.. which will default to 10.0.1.1 btw.. is irrelevant. It is the IP of the WAN which you use to access the TC over the internet. And here you have a problem.. the TC does not include dyndns service. So unless you have a static IP address from your ISP, this will cause you grief.
(If it is offered by your ISP.. get a static IP.. that eliminates all the issues.. and is far superior. Even dyndns service has issues if your public IP rotates too often. It is generally an extra cost item and requires a business account but some ISP offer it cheap or even free.. I joined an ISP that offered static ip for free because it gives me the ability to remote access my network without all the hassles you will see below.)
There are ways around it.. setting up your own domain for instance.
    http://dyn.com/support/airport-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/
But it is easier to simply use a different router.. almost all of them have dyndns service available.. place the TC behind the router in bridge and forward port 548 TCP to it.
This is a bit old but still relevant.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
Note .. there is no ftp, http, ssh (there is actually but it isn't accessible), or any other service to allow connection other than AFP.. so you must use a Mac in remote location to access the TC.
The setup for the two methods is slightly different in the TC.. in the first instance, you need to turn on WAN access via disk sharing page in the manual setup.
In the second case you do not need this.
Remember security and put strong passwords on the disk. There are still security questions about this.
If security is important.. there is a third and better (IMO) method and that is vpn.. you will need to buy a vpn router as TC also missed out on that.. establish a vpn with the main router and that will allow you access to your network.. you will also then be able to use SMB remotely not just AFP.
Also if this office is a large company they should be running a firewall, which would block your access to home. You should check your IT admin people for what is allowed.. generally the only acceptable method is vpn otherwise you can drag viruses and trojans right into the network without the firewall catching them.

  • Can't Access iphoto Library on Time Capsule

I can’t access one of my iphoto’s library on time capsule. I tried the permission keys- alt+cmd- fix and the Caution warning still pops up. All my libraries are working fine, but this particular one hasn’t allow me to enter the permissions fix window despite is set up as a default library- Your help much appreciate it. Thanks!

Have you opened this one over a wireless connection in the past?
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • Can I use back to my mac to access two daisy chained time capsules running on my network alone or do I also need a mac running on the same network?

I have a DSL modem router (HUWAI ECHO LIFE 520) with uPNP enabled. The first time capsule´s wan is connected to that router the second time capsules wan is connected to the first time capsules lAN. The router looks at the first time capsule as DMZ and passes traffic on the public IP through to it. There are airport expressses either end of the chain. The network works a charm. I would like to have both time capsules visible through Back to My Mac, which isn´t currently working. Back to My Mac is activated on all devices involved. What else to try?
    Arved

Both TC should be in bridge mode. Is that what you have done? You cannot use the TC in router mode as it will cause double NAT problems.
Can you access one of the TC? Or do both fail to show up?

  • My Mac can access internet through my time capsule but can't find TC so I can set up time machine

I have an iMac and a MacBook.
I can access the internet with both Macs using my time capsule.
I can access the Time Capsule with my iMac and use it with Time Machine for backups.
I can't use my Time Capsule for Time Machine backup since my MacBook can't identify Time Capsule as a drive for this purpose.
Any suggestions on what I should do to have my MacBook recognize my Time Capsule for Time Machine use?
    thanks

So the TC does not show up as an available drive at all in the MBP.. what weird things happen??
Use finder, go, go to server, and use AFP://ipoftimecapsule.  (that being the IP address of the Time Capsule)
In router mode and at default it is 10.0.1.1 but check.
If it doesn't work tell us the IP of the TC .. and how it is setup, router or bridge.
IP of the mac that works, and IP of the MBP that doesn't work.
I am assuming you have done the more basic stuff.
    Pondini might help you.

  • What is the best configuration with Mac Book air, time capsule and external hard drive?

Hi, I just bought a MacBook Air with the new Time Capsule and I was wondering what is the best set up:
Option 1: use the time capsule as my main drive and back it up onto an external drive plugged at the back of it
or Option 2: use the external drive as the main drive and use the time capsule as the back up? in that case, would the ext drive need to be plugged to the MacBook Air?
    Many thanks

Option 2 is far superior.. and actually the only one that works.
That is without killing yourself or having continual issues accessing your files.
You do need to plug the external disk into the MBA.

  • Can't access some websites using time capsule

Everything has been working just fine with my time capsule and my imac and just today I couldn't access some websites for some reason. I tried many other sites including this one and can get to them no problem. I have been through all of the airport settings and trouble shooting and can't find any problems, also the other 2 computers and my blackberry can't access some of the same sites either, I am stumped. Does anyone out there have any idea whats going on? Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to the discussions!
Suggest that you contact your ISP. It sounds like their DNS server is overloaded at the moment, but also unlikely that they will ever admit it.
It wouldn't hurt to power cycle your complete network as well. Just power everything down, order is not important.
Start the modem first and let it run a few minutes by itself.
Then start the next device connected to the modem, probably your Time Capsule, and let it run a few minutes.
Then start your computers and devices one by one the same way.

  • An access point to replace Time Capsule

    Hi all,
I'm sorry I'm posting this here if I'm not supposed to. I wasn't sure where to ask this question.
I've been using Zyxel as my modem and Time Capsule as my access point for about 6 months now. I've grown increasingly annoyed with the drop in signal speed whenever Time Capsule does its backups - which is every 1 hour.
I stream quite a bit of series and music from my laptop through my PS3 and everytime there is a backup going on, the stream stutters...
So in the end I've decided I am going to buy a new access point for the network and use Time Capsule for back up only so it does not affect the flow of the network signal in the house.
Can someone recommend me a good Access point? Someone suggest Engenius ECB3500 to me, but it's only 11b/g and I'd like 11n if I can.
I have about US$200 budget for this.
Thanks for all opinions in advance.

If you don't really need to backup each hour on the Time Capsule, you might want to take a look at Time Machine Editor to allow you to schedule backups whenever you like.

  • Access iTunes from AirPort Time Capsule

Hi there, I have limited HD space on my MacBook Air and would like to store and access my iTunes library from my AirPort Time Capsule.  Is that possible?  If so, could someone please provide me with the steps to move my library to my AirPort Time Capsule?  Thank you, Torsten

    This is really simple.
Get your TC drive up on the desktop.
Locate the directory on your HDD called iTunes (usually under Music).
Drag it onto your TC Drive.
(Now wait for the time that it takes to copy your files over).
Once done, launch iTunes by holding the 'option' key down as well as clicking on the iTunes icon. This will allow you to choose which iTunes to open.
Click on the TC folder with your iTunes in it and VOILA! Off you go.
Once you are happy that this is working (and NOT before), you can delete your iTunes folder off your local HDD and regain your disc space.

  • How do i set up a wireless access point with ny time capsule

I am using a new Airport Extreme and want to utilize my older TC to create a wireless access point or maybe an aditional router using the same newtwork.  What are the steps to set this up?
    Thanks
    Alamo

You will first need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Then, temporarily locate it in close proximity (same room or nearby) to the AirPort Extreme.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click the tab in the upper left hand corner of the AirPort Utility window that reads Other AirPort Base Stations (1), then click the Time Capsule
AirPort Utility will take a moment or two to analyze your network, then announce that the TC will be configured to extend your wireless network.
Enter a name for the TC (you can use the same device name that you used before if you wish) and click Next.
AirPort Utility will take a another minute or two to configure the TC and then tell you that the setup is complete. Click Done
At this point, power down the TC and move it to a location that is approximately half the distance from the AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more wireless coverage.....to give the TC a good strong signal to "extend"
Power up the TC and wait for the green light and then you are all set.

  • No Internet access after setting up time capsule

I am setting an airport time capsule. After setting up new network, I no longer have Internet access and can not set up the time capsule. I have tried to cycle the power on my model but no luck. Any ideas?

Disconnect all connections from the Time Capsule except the AC power cord.
With the Time Capsule powered on for a few minutes, hold in the reset button on the back of the device for 10-12 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the Actiontec modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
    Open up AirPort Utility
    Click on Other WiFi Devices
    Click on Time Capsule
The utility will display a window that looks similar to the illustration below, excep that there will be a picture of the Time Capsule instead of an AirPort Express
Network Name......Enter a name that you want to call the wireless network
Base Station Name....Enter a name that you want to call the Time Capsule
Password......Enter a password that will be used for both the wireless and device name
    Verify the password
    Click Next
When you see the the message of Setup Complete, click Done
Now you can select the new network that you created and enter the password to connect
Try to keep the Actionec modem/router and Time Capsule at least 6-8 feet (or 2 meters) apart from each other to help minimimize the chances of wireless interference between them.
