I gather you mean hooking up cables to your computer?  If so the answer is yes.  My printer is hooked up to my Airport Extreme through its usb port.  I can print wireless flawlessly.

  • How can I access HDD on Airport Extreme with iPad

How can I access HDD on Airport Extreme with iPad

Without third-party software I don't think you can.  An iPad has no user-accessible interface to a file system.  Just what is it you're trying to do?

  • TS4597 AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3 - It did the above steps and cannot get airport utility to allow access to the Airport extreme in order to reconfigure please help

I tried following the article's instructions by going into System Preferences / Network and changing the configure ipv6 tab to Link local only and I STILL am getting the same error. Can someone please advise how to get this ariport extreme back online and configured

I'm in a frustrating predicament with this error, so if folks have any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated...
A few days ago my internet stopped working as best i know out of the blue (3rd gen Airport Extreme with a couple iPhones, iPad, Apple TV's, Mac's (one with Mavericks) on it).  In trying to fix it, I powered down everything and reset the router.  When the router is initializing (seen through the Airport utility), the internet starts working again on the Mac in which I'm running the Airport utility. (a browser in background loads a previously unloadable webpage).  I'm then left with a screen where the Airport utility is waiting for me to enter set-up info:
If I leave the Airport Utility in this state and don't hit next, my internet works fine on my Mac.  If I set-up this info, however, my internet no longer works (in Airport Utility the Internet globe has a orange circle saying internet disconnected) and I get a screen saying "An unexpected error occured.  Try again."  I've tried toggling a number of router settings, restarting the router, but nothing seems to fix it.
I've taken the router to Apple, where they were able to create a network fine with the router.  I also bought a new AE router, and tried an old AE express router, but all attempts get the same error.  I've also tried using the iOS Airport utility, but that doesn't seem to help.  I've tried the older version (5.6) of Airport Utility run on a non-Mavericks Mac, but that didn't help.
I had a ISP technician come out, but they basically said the plug (we don't have a modem, but just a ethernet plug in our apartment)  in which you're getting the internet from us is working, and it's your router.  They're diagnostics said the router is 'throwing off a bunch of errors.'  That being said, they've confirmed the setting on the AE are okay (as far as they know...).
Any thoughts here?  I'm not especially network-proficient, but searching around has pointed me to potential issues with mavericks, IPv6, and the latest version of the Airport Utility.
    I'm desperate - please help!
    Much thanks in advance.

  • Airport Card not connecting to existing network

New to wireless and to these forums, although i have found them useful in the past this is my first posting.
I have just installed a new airport extreme card into my imac, prior to this i installed the software.
the airport card seems fine, the mac recognises it, it does not however see the wireless router. (netgear dg834pn). The router is configured ok as my laptop (Macbook Pro) and my wifes laptop (dell pc) work fine with it.
how do i make the imac see the network?
    any help would be appreciated.

ukdave, Welcome to the discussion area!
Verify that the antenna wire is properly connected to the AirPort Extreme card. Compare you installation to the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card.
Also... is there any chance that you have installed an AirPort Extreme card from the US? The US cards only recognize channels 1-11. If your Netgear is using channels 12 or 13 try changing it to a channel between 1 and 11.

  • Time capsule connect to existing network cannot connect MBP via ethernet

I have set up my time capsule via Airport utility to "connect to existing network", which is my Netcomm wireless router (which is my DHCP server). MBP connects perfectly to time capsule if wireless is on, presumably via the Netcomm. But if I plug the MBP into an ethernet port on the time capsule it is not recognized and it gets a self assigned ip 169.254.x.y.
Airport utility is very restrictive in the options and is basically useless in resolving the obvious ip conflict. Is there any trick to getting both the wireless and ethernet to work ? It should not be this difficult....
The time capsule 2T disk is useless as a backup device over wireless.

Is that the exact wording of the option you chose? In AirPort Utility I see options of "Create a wireless network", "Join a wireless network", and "Extend a wireless network". (Perhaps the difference is due to language usage.) The option to "Join a Wireless Network" is only useful for sharing disks and printers. It doesn't support Ethernet ports.
if I plug the MBP into an ethernet port on the time capsule it is not recognized
With some options there's a checkbox to "Allow Ethernet Clients". If you see that, try it.

  • Wireless Card Access List and Airport Extreme ?

I would like to know if there is a possility to restrict to specific MAC adresses the access to a Airport Extreme N base station wifi network .
    Thanks

Access control MAC address filtering) provides no real security and could lull you into the feeling that your wireless network is secure.
The MAC addresses of connected clients are easily discovered and cloned. Furthermore, access control provides zero protection for the actual wireless traffic. Anyone (regardless of MAC address) can monitor the wireless traffic.

  • How do i use the airport extreme to extend my wireless network

How do i connected my airport extreme up to my existing network so that it can extend my wireless through out the house ??
Can it be done wirelessly or do i need an ethernet cable thats about 10m ?
    Keith

The AirPort Exteme can "extend" your existing wireless network (using wireless only) if it is being provided by another Apple router.
If your current main router is not an Apple product, then you will need to plan to connect the AirPort Extreme to your router using an Ethernet cable.
Post back for more information if needed.

  • ITunes Library access via external HDD w/ AirPort Extreme

Ok wizards...  I've read a number of posts, but can't seem to pull together the answer to my question and hoping someone's able to push me in the right direction.
I've got a Windows 7 PC with my iTunes library stored on an external HDD due to it's size.  My PC is often not at home (i travel for work a lot) and would like to have my library available to my family via my Apple TV when i'm not there.  So... I'm contemplating buying an AirPort Extreme and connecting the HDD.  I have read that the HDD must be formatted to FAT32 for it to function w/ the AirPort extreme (seemingly an arduous step, but surmountable) but can't seem to find a clear answer to the question:
Will I be able to access my Library via the Apple TV via this method?  Obviously any tips / tricks would be greatly appreciated and thanks (in advance) for anyone who can help!

No, at least not directly. You would still need an iTunes "server" to stream the iTunes media to the Apple TV. Typically a iTunes server would be a Mac or PC computer running iTunes.

  • Airport  Extreme loses connection to USB disk

Recently I upgraded my Airport extreme to 7.4.2 software. Since that time AE I keep losing connection to the disk when copying large files or after browsing on it for a while.
The drive is simply gone (no share advertised)
The only way to get it accessible again is by resetting the AE (soft reset via airport utility)
Is there a way to revert to the previous software (there appears to be no newer SW or fix at the moment)?
    My config is as follows:
Airport Extreme 802.1n operating a 5GHz wireless N network, 1TB Seagate (Seagate FreeAgent 102D) external USB drive attached to it (formatted with MAC filesystem)
on the ethernet port is a linksys router acting as a Wireless G Accesspoint (for my wife's Windows laptop)

I've been having exactly the same problem. The Macs on my LAN will all continue to have Internet access. On any of them, the base station still shows up in a Finder window under "shared"... but if I click on it, it will think for a moment and then say "Connection Failed" where it normally says "Connected As: USER NAME". And then none of my computers can access the shared volumes until I reboot the router.
I'm having exactly this same problem.
Not sure where the problem comes from, but here is my environment:
Airport Express (older model) Version 6.3 as WDS remote
Airport Extreme (version 7.4.2) as WDS base station
    Powerbook G4 (1.33 Ghz)
    PowerMac G4 (Mirror Drive Door)
    iTunes 9.0
I've had problems with my Hard Disk access from the Airport Extreme. I have Time Machine running automatically from two different machines to the same plugged in HD on the Airport Extreme. I get messages indicating that the backup can't be mounted. Once that occurs, I have to reboot the Airport.
Just like Toryn says, once you get Connection Failed, you must reboot the router.

  • 2wire wireless- Airport Extreme- ethernet connection to iMac - how?

I have AT+T's DSL router that has wireless capabilities (802.11g, not n). I'm trying to use the new (802.11n version, although I'm not using n for this obviously) airport extreme to extended my wireless network to give me a wired access point to my old iMac (no wireless card).
So far the best I can do is get the airport extreme on the wireless network with a green light, but I can't get a wireline connection to land on this network. I'd even be ok with the airport extreme was a router that made the wired ports on a different network that would then route out to the wireless network.
When I connect a wired device to the airport extreme, it comes up with a 169.254.94.121 address. The wireless network is 192.168.1.x. The airport extreme does get it's 192.168.1.68 address on the same network as the 2wire. I've even forced my iMac into having an 192.168.1.80 address, but it can't ping the airport extreme's 192.168.1.68 address, so obviously the airport extreme isn't behaving how I would like. I even fired up WireShark on the connection, but it looks like the airport extreme won't even talk to it in any way; I was hoping to find the IP address on the wired side of the AX.
Basically I'm trying to use the airport extreme completely backwards from the usual setup. Wireless to wired instead of wired to wireless.
    Here's what I have:
Airport Extreme - Join a wireless network, security is WPA2, and it's on the network (as seen by 2wire)
Can I get the wired connections on the airport extreme to be an extension of the wireless network or even as another NAT routed connection?
DSL router (2wire) that sends wireless-> Airport Extreme (join a wireless network) -> wired connection to iMac.
Why am I doing this? No phone line connection even close to my iMac.

I had to jump straight into the manual configuration, but it does show Wireless mode: Join a wireless network. And the 2wire shows it as a device connected to that network.
    Connect using: Wireless Network
Ok, I'm still a bit confused. On the AEBSn, the only options available for Connect Using (found on the Internet > Internet Connection tab) are: Ethernet or PPPoE; For Wireless Mode (found on the AirPort > Wireless tab) are: Create a wireless network, Participate in a WDS network, Extend a wireless network, or Off. Unlike the AirPort Express or Time Capsule, there should NOT be an option for "Join a wireless network."
So at this point I think it is extending my wireless network. I just can't figure out how to get the wired ethernet ports to be on that same network.
Regardless, when configuring for "Join a wireless network," the base station would join as a wireless client, not as a means to extend the wireless range of the exiting wireless network. Since this is not the way to set up a WDS, the Ethernet ports on the AEBSn would not be enabled for sharing Internet connectivity.
WDS is not an option as the 2wire router doesn't seem to be able to handle that.
Then it appears that there will not be an option to create a WDS no matter which vendor's router you try to configure the 2Wire to work with. Sorry!

Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. The light on the Express is flashing green though. Does it mean I have to re-set the settings on Airport Utility? I.e. the old settings haven't been cleared yet. Any suggestions?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

  • I connected an airport extreme (2013) to an existing pc network

I connected an airport extreme (2013) to an existing pc network and I had to change all my ip addresses.  I managed to catch on to the apple replacement range and reset all my printers' addresses manually.  Was there an easier way to handle this?  Also, I lost the connection to my WD Worldbook drive though and haven't been able to come up with a work around.  Any ideas would help, thanks!

First, to answer your question about the WD drive - I could not find it with an ethernet connection.  I tried connecting to the usb port on the Extreme, but it was not visible there either.
When connecting an external network drive to the AirPort Extreme by Ethernet, the drive would be providing the file sharing service. This would be typical of a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. If your WD Worldbook offers NAS services then it should be found by network clients per WD's instructions.
When connected to the Extreme's USB port, the Extreme would take over the file server services. However, the drive must not be formatted in either NTFS or ExFAT as either are not recognizable by the Extreme for sharing out. My guess is this is the case and why the AirPort Utility cannot "find" the drive.
If your WD Worldbook has an Ethernet interface that is the one you should use for best performance. It is still possible that this drive is using an IP address that is not in the default range of the Extreme.
How can I reset the IP range on the router.  I have to use the iPad app to manage the router and I didn't see any way to change the range.  Did I miss something or would I need to use an Mac computer to get more options?
You can change the IP address range of your AirPort using the AirPort Utility on your iPad.
    To change the range:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the AirPort Extreme, and then, select Edit.
    Select Advanced.
    Select DHCP Range.
    Select 192.168

No, not unless it is simply a network connection.
How is your IPTV being provided.. if it is using a separate vlan or separate vpi/vci in the adsl connection. Who is your ISP?
    Is the TP-Link ADSL?
Is the IPTV using a separate voice channel on adsl?
    Or a different vlan.
Sorry but it is something where a definite answer is not possible unless you provide all the details.
The setups are unique to each ISP around the world..
Here is one for our local ISP.
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/Setup.html
He has a section on getting this working with apple router over wireless.. look
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/IPTV_and_Wireless.html
Google around and see if other people have had success.. the whole setup is tricky.. and it is hard if nobody has used it who actually understands networking.
