Access inventory without installing software on current machine

I have a Surface RT tablet and I cannot install the software on it. (Since there is no Spiceworks software on the Windows Store) So, how do I see my inventory without installing it on this tablet.
Case in point, when I try to click inventory, it tries to get me install the software, never allowing me to see my inventory. Please help. I feel like I'm looking in the wrong place.
I purchased this tablet to assist with remote management of my inventory. If I can't access inventory without installing to every machine I log in to, this feels like my inventory is being held hostage.
I'm sure this isn't the case. Your thoughts please?

  • Sync Calendar / Contacts without installing software - best method?

I'm still scratching for an answer to this problem.
My calendar and contacts are on my work PC (Outlook). I can't install software on that computer.
I have a PC at home, with iTunes installed.
What is the best method of keeping my iPhone and my work pc in Sync with each other?

    Allan Sampson wrote:
You need iTunes for the sync process with the iPhone so you need to transfer your data from your work PC to your home or personal PC and sync your iPhone with this PC only.
That's the conclusion I came to a couple of months ago. I was hoping things might have moved on. Never mind, perhaps something will develop out of the SDK when it is launched in Feb.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Playing songs off iPOD without installed software.

Ok so I am aware that if we set my iPod classic to manually manage and disk use mode, we can transfer it around with us and plug it into a computer with itunes we can listen to the music right off the ipod. I am wanting to be able to either install some kind of software on my own USB flash drive, or the ipod unit itself. To be able to play songs off the ipod through any computer without having itunes installed on it. I have came across some "Portable Itunes" software, however those just didn't work properly.

if you turn on the ability to show hidden folders in windows you should be able to navigate to the songs on the ipod and play them with windows media player or whatever. the only problem is that they will not be sorted as you would expect. the file names will have random names in random folders but I think windows media player will read the track information if you add it to your playlist.

  • Any way to validate CS3 license key is legal without installing software?

    Hi,
I'm going to meet someone tonight who is selling their CS3 Master Collection software. They claimed they have removed it from their PC. I've been doing some searching without luck as to whether there is a online or over the phone tool to verify I'm buying a valid license from this guy. Is there such a thing? Or am I going to have to install some or all of the software to make sure the key works?
    Thanks!
    Brian

Several points that you must make sure of before consumating any deal for used software:
    (1)     Obviously, the software must not only be uninstalled from the owner's computer(s), but it should also have been deactivated prior to having been uninstalled.
    (2)     You cannot legally transfer a license if this was an academic or student version of any type.
    (3)     If the seller has used their CS3 Master Collection as the basis for upgrading to CS4, they cannot transfer the license. They can continue using CS3 but they can neither sell nor give away the CS3 software.
    (4)     Volume license versions of Adobe software have restrictions as to transfer of license.
    (5)     The "seller" should be willing to let you call Adobe Customer Support and verify that the serial number for the product is both valid and transferable. Furthermore, the "seller" must be willing to fill out and submit to Adobe the paperwork necessary to legal transfer all right of the software to you. See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/152/tn_15281.html for more details!
    (6)     Make sure that the transaction includes both the media and licensing information. A set of copied DVDs and a serial number on a piece of paper are the sure sign that something isn't quite kosher.
Be aware that CS3 is now a fairly old version of Adobe software and may have installation and operational problems on the latest versions of operating systems.
    Good luck.

  • You do not have adequate operating system rights to install software on this machine.

I have installed Lion yesterday but I am now getting the above message when trying to reinstall a program.  This is despite my user login saying "Admin".  Help? Anyone?
Hate how, despite checking the box to stop my laptop starting up as it was when I shut down, that it still opens everything when I restart.
Hate how Safari keeps opening with the tabs I have already closed.
Sheesh think I am going to have to go back to Snow Leopard. Thank God for Time Machine.

I had the same problem but contacted customer support for the games I use (Big Fish) and they were brilliant.  Sent me a link to download their new BETA version of Game Manager for Lion.
Try contacting whoever you are downloading your games from.

  • Re-install software from Time Machine???

I recently bought an imac, transfered all my data over from my MacBookPro, and now Adobe Illustrator won't open on the imac b/c of a missing plug-in. The MacBookPro has been backed up many times on my external hard drive through Time Machine.
Is it possible to extract the Illustrator program onto the imac from the external hard drive through Time Machine?
If not, does anyone have any advise on how I can fix my illustrator program on the imac? It still works fine on the macbookpro.

not unless you know exactly which files need to be transfered. there is no automated way to do this beside using Migration Assistant. MA does a decent job and transfers most apps correctly but if it doesn't your best bet is to reinstall the app from scratch on the new computer.

  • Install Software Updates Step fails during Build and Capture

I have run into a problem while attempting to use the Install Software Update task during a build and capture task sequence.  I have MDT 2012U1 integrated into SCCM 2012.
The Install Software steps find and use the Deployment Points fine and the Use Toolkit steps similarly are able to download their source files from the distribution points using the Network Access account.  The Install Software Updates step, however
fails with an access denied error in the CAS.log.
I have found that I can work around this problem by setting the DP to allow anonymous access.  After checking this box, the software updates install during the build and capture task sequence.  Unchecking the Allow anoymous makes the problem recur.
I would like to not have to have the "allow anonymous access" enabled on the DPs for obvious reasons.  Other packages download correctly from the DP with anonymous access disabled - they use the network access account.  Install Software Updates
is the only step that seems unable to use that account to talk with the DP.
Is this a known issue?  Is there a work around?

Thanks for the information. I will give that a try.  I do have the SMSMP & SMSSLP (not sure I need this one in 2012) filled in in the Configmgr client install settings.  Before I did that, it couldn't even find the SUP.
I am a little skeptical that the hotfix will fix my problem since most packages are downloading from the DP fine - it is only Software Updates that are failing to download.  On the other hand, it is clearly a permissions issue since allowing anonymous
on the DP resolves the issue, all be it in a way I am uncomfortable maintaining in the long run.
That KB replaces a lot of key Windows system files.  Hopefully, it won't cause more problems than it solves.
    ---additional thought
I wonder, could it be that Packages that work without this KB have package share settings with "Copy the content in this package to a packages share on Distribution Points" cleared/unchecked?  This setting is not available for patch packages
    - so I wonder if it is enabled by default behind the scenes.  That could explain why the patch packages are affected and not the other regular application packages I have are not.  All my regular packages so far do not have the
"Copy the content" box checked. Clients would be accessing the packages differently I suppose based on whether it was through a packages share or through the new SCCM 2012 package storage thing with the hashing.

  • Is it possible to run AIR apps without installing them?

    Hi there,
Just have a sudden thought. Most Adobe AIR apps I have seen required installation before execution. Is it actually launch the application directly from the .air file without installatoin?
You know, some users are quite reluntant to "install" software onto their machine, and moreover in some environment "installation" requires special priviliege. For some tiny utilities, (e.g. a simple calculator, you name it), it would be really handy for users to be able to exceute them directly after downloading the .air file, or even directly from web pages.
    Thanks,
    Kenneth

I see. Thanks for your help.
Really wish Adobe would consider adding direct execution feature to AIR.

Dear proffesionals, what do you think about code below-we tried to enable our users to run applications developed in Forms 6i, without installed runtime on their machines. In order to distribute a Forms 6i application to a client you really only have three (3) choices.
    1. Install the Forms Runtime on each PC (truely distributed application).
    2. Deploy the application using desktop virtualization (Citrix, etc). This option requires a Virtualization server.
    3. Web Deployed. (This requires the addition of an Application server and does require some type of installation on the client (the Oracle Jinitiator), but this can be automated with the Web Deployment.) Check out this link [Forms 6i Documenation|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/6i_forms.html] and scroll to the bottom and view the "Oracle Forms Developer Release 6i: Deploying Forms Applications to the Web with Oracle Forms Server" document.
    Hope this helps.

  • Working on SQL Developer / pl/sql developer without installing Oracle

    HI,
I am working on SQL Developer tool without installing oracle into my local machine.
I just took server IP as hostname and continuing with the same/
Now, since I donot have tns names, I am not able to use any other user other than my work related.
    like scott etc.
could anyone let me know, is there any way that i can work on sql developer or pl/sql developer without installing oracle into local machine
    like using scott etc...

    VBSK wrote:
I am working on SQL Developer tool without installing oracle into my local machine. You need an Oracle client driver - this is mandatory.
No, you do not need a TNS alias (as the connection string can be build manually by the application and the driver).
So SQL*Developer needs to have an OCI (Oracle Call Interface) client driver. This can be "installed" using Oracle Instant Client.
Instant Client does not really install - to use it takes 3 basic steps:
    - download it (zip file)
    - unzip it to a directory (e.g. C:\InstantClient on Windows)
    - add to your Windows User's environment an ORACLE_HOME variable that points to this directory
These steps should suffice in making the driver in in Instant Client available to Oracle applications. (works for me running an Oracle OCI client like <i>Mumbai</i> or Oracle's <i>SQL Data Modeler</i>).
If you want a tnsnames.ora file, then create the file and create a new environment variable called TNS_ADMIN that refers to directory location of the file. It can use the same location as your Instant Client directory.
PS. I assume you have an existing Oracle server to connect to.

  • The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?

Question: The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?

Absolutely - but I had no idea there were two versions. When I got my new laptop I just went to the Adobe site to download and install LR5. It never asked if I had a license; it just directed me to install CC to start a trial which I thought I could license after downloading. Several sessions and many hours of looking through the forums and Google for an answer I never ran across anything that made this distinction. I still haven't found a path from www.adobe.com that would get me to the standalone download page (it's probably there, wasn't obvious to me) and looking at the download page it doesn't make any CC/standalone distinction.
There are many places I could have gotten a hint - for instance the license could be tagged "stand alone edition", the CC-version could recognize the stand-alone key and either accept it or produce a more meaningful error message, or the download site or the CC app could ask if I had previously purchased a key, etc.
It was my error to assume this was a deactivation problem, but it looked the same as a previous deactivation problem with Photoshop.
In any event, thank you for your help.

  • How to restore from Time Machine WITHOUT install discs using a second Mac

It's a question that is asked repeatedly all over the web by Mac users like me that bought in to Time Machine (TM) on the assumption that if their computer died one day it would be a piece of cake to restore from it, only for that day to come and then to be told "ahh, okay the first thing is to get your computers install discs..." (loud crashing sound of world falling around ears).
I've never been able to afford a new Mac and both of my machines were bought second-hand. Neither came with Leopard (both have Tiger and have been upgraded to Leopard via the net). This was never supposed to be a problem as I've been backing up with TM. However it appears that Tiger discs are as much use as an inflatable dart board when it comes to using TM. So I've been faced with the possibility of having to spend £130 (about two hundred Pres Sheets, Yankees) on the Leopard install discs just so that I can have the option of restoring from TM. Bonkers.
However after much nashing of teeth, a very long weekend learning all sorts of things about 'Target Mode', 'Single User Mode', 'Verbose Mode', 'Open Source 9' etc the following solution has worked without the need to go out and buy those over-priced discs...
    What you will need:
    1 broken Mac requiring restoration
1 second donor Mac running Leopard (or Snow Leopard so long as the broken Mac can run it)
1 firewire cable with the correct fitting at either end to attach both Macs together
    1 Time Machine backup
Note: The following is for when you have given up trying to boot from your hard drive. In my case I couldn't boot in to Safe Mode etc. so was forced to format my drive and re-import everything. If you've read this far I'm assuming your at the same point as well and have tried everything else that's out there first.
Also - both my Macs are Power PC's so can't run Snow Leopard, so I can't say 100% this will work with SL (Intel) machines. From what I've read Snow Leopard will work with this procedure too, but if you've found differently please feel free to add your experiences below...
STEP ONE: Format the corrupt Hard Drive or replace with a fresh HDD
*Link the two computers with a firewire.
*If you're replacing your HDD, remove your corrupted hard drive from the 'broken' machine and insert a new one.
*Power up the broken Mac whilst holding down the 'T' key. This will start it up in Target Mode and you'll get a nice firewire symbol floating around that machine's screen.
*Power up the second 'healthy' Mac. This will be our 'donor' machine. When it starts up after a few seconds you will see the hard drive of the broken Mac appear on the donor Mac's desktop.
*Using your donor Mac's 'Disc Utility', format the broken Mac's hard drive (now's the time to partition it etc. if you want to).
STEP TWO: Clone your donor Mac
Your broken Mac is no longer broken and now needs a new OS. But you don't have the discs, right? Well get this... you can clone your donor mac on to your machine, even if they are totally different i.e. a laptop on to a tower.
*Again using Disc Utility, click on your donor Mac's hard drive. The restore tab appears as an option.
*Click on restore and drag the donor Mac's hard drive that contains the operating system in to the Source box.
*Drag the newly formatted hard drive on the broken Mac in to the Destination box.
*Click restore. Your donor Mac's hard drive will now be 'cloned' on to your no-longer-broken Mac. Once this is done, eject the first Mac's hard drive from your donor Mac's desktop. You no longer need the donor Mac.
Ta daa! Your machine now starts up happy and smily again. Time to restore all that stuff that's been sat on your Time Machine drive...
STEP 3: Restore from Time Machine using Migration Assistant
This is the really clever part that prompted me to write this piece in the first place. Time Machine IS accessible without those Leopard install discs you don't have. You need to use something called 'Migration Assistant'.
*Start up your machine as normal and you'll see it is an exact clone of the donor machine. Weird huh?
*Attach your Time Machine hard drive. It will show up as an icon on the desktop and because of it's size, you'll be asked if you want to use it as a Time Machine backup. Err, NO YOU DON'T! Click 'cancel'.
*Open Migration Assistant (if you can't find it just type it in to Finder and click). There are three options, the middle one being to restore from TM or another disc. Yup, you want that one.
*Migration Assistant will now ask you what you want to restore in stages, firstly User Accounts, then folders, Apps etc. It will even import internet settings
And that's you done. Let Migration Assistant do it's thang... altogether I had about 140gb to restore, so it wasn't exactly speedy. This wasn't helped by the fact that my TM hard drive is connected via USB (yes, I know). Just leave it alone and it'll whirr happily away...
Before I go - you don't have an option of when to restore from, and will restore from the last Time Machine save. At least then you should be able to access TM and go 'backwards' if you need to.
Also - for a Mac expert, the above will be up there with 'Spot Goes To The Farm' in terms of complexity. However, for the rest of us the above is only available in fragments all over the net. By far the most common response to 'how do I restore from Time Machine without install discs' is 'you can't'. If I'd found the above information in one place I could have saved a lot of hair pulling and swearing over the last couple of days, so forgive me for sharing this workaround with the rest of the world. Meanwhile your expertise will come in very handy for the inevitable questions that will get posted below, so please feel free to help those people that won't be sure if this solution is the right one for them. I'm no expert, I just want to help people that were stuck in the same situation (and looking at the web, there's a LOT of them).
Hope this is of use to someone, thanks and *good luck*!

Most maintenance and repair, restore and install procedures require the use
of the correct OS X install DVD; be it an original machine-specific restore/install
disc set or a later retail non-specific general install disc set.
By having an unsupported system, perhaps installed via an illegal download or
other file-sharing scheme, where no retail official discs are involved and the
initial upgrade was done by other means outside of the License Agreements,
you are asking us to discuss a matter of illegal installation and use of a product.
There are no legal complete OS X system download upgrades online; only bits
that are update segments to a retail or as-shipped machine's original OS X install.
+{Or an installation where a previous owner had correct retail upgrade discs, &+
+chose to not include them with the re-sale of the computer it was installed in.}+
However, to answer the initial question. To get and use an externally enclosed
hard drive in suitable boot-capable housing, and get a free-running Clone
Utility (download online; often a donation-ware product, runs free) you can
make a bootable backup of everything in your computer to an external HDD.
This is the way to make a complete backup to restore all functions to the computer.
The Time Machine has some limits, in that it can restore only that which it saves.
It does not make a bootable clone of your entire computer system with apps and
your files, to an external drive device. A clone can. And some of the clone utility's
settings can also backup changes to an external drive's system; if that other drive
is attached to the computer correctly.
Carbon Copy Cloner, from Bombich Software; and also SuperDuper, another of
the most known software names you can download and use to clone boot-capable
system backups of your computer's hard disk drive contents, are often cited.
However you resolve the matter of the running OS X system in your computer,
derived from what appears to be questionable means, is part of the initial issue.
Since you do need to be able to fix an existing installation by unmounting the
computer's hard disk drive and run the computer from the other (install disc or
system clone) while it is Unmounted; and use the correct Disk Utility version to
help diagnose and perhaps be able to fix it. You can't use a Tiger version Disk
Utility to fix a Leopard installation, and so on.
So, the situation and replies as far as they can go (since the matter does
constitute an illegal system, if it was arrived at without correct discs) is a
limited one. And file sharing of copied Mac OS X (and other) software is
    also considered illegal.
And, one way to get odd malware and unusual stuff, is to get an unauthorized
system upgrade from an illegal source online. You never know what's inside it.
The other reply was not a personal attack; the matter is of legal status and as
you have a product with a questionable system, the answer is to correct it.
And if you want to save everything in your computer, make a clone to a suitable
externally enclosed self-powered boot capable hard disk drive. With older PPC
Macs, that would best be to one with FireWire and the Oxford-type control chips.
    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Install software for Deskjet 2540 will not load on Windows XP Home edition SP3 machine

I have successfully connected a new Deskjet 2540 printer to a Windows 7 machine, and IPAD Air, and an XP Pro laptop.
I cannot get the install software to load on and XP Home edition SP3 machine. I have tried all of the HP remedies that I can find, over  period of two days, but the installation fails every time with the message "Installation failed. The software required for your printer could not be installed".
    What can be done?

    Hi,
Thanks  for  your second installment of help suggestions.
I started check disk as you proposed and it ran happily for some hours with evidence of progress. However eventually I found the computer stopped with a number of suggestions for restarting. I tried all of these and some others, but got no further than the first Windows picture. At this point the machine restarts, and goes through the same process.
The printer problem, as you can see has unfortunately become secondary to trying to recover the system.
What I propose is to  try to read the disc in question on another computer, and extract the important data files to a safe place. Then to return the disc to its own machine and use the recovery CD, to try to get the machine to recover with the minimum of loss. If this succeeds, I might even find that the printer software then loads without problem. There is a big IF there, and I won't hold my breath.
None of this relates to the printer problem, and fortunately i have three other devices running which are happily connected to the printer.
I just wnted to explain why there will be no further feedback for a while. I will take my time with the recovery process.
Thanks for all of your help. I have just been unlucky.
    Regards

My Wife got an iPhone at work. IT set it up the first time on another machine, they finally install iTunes on her machine but I don't know if she can sync without loosing Photos, SMS, and other things. She had six months of stuff on that phone?
The problem is she can't update to new software until she connect to iTunes, but she don't want to loose all that info.
    My question is:
If she register her apple ID on that new computer, and sync the phone, will she loose everything? or iTunes will back up first (because apple id match) and then sync.
Otherwise, how can I do it? The closest apple store is 3 hours away. thanks!

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise her phone will be wiped during the following sync.
If she has data on the phone she wants to save, back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to her new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
