Access local shared folder through Sharepoint 2013

Before we installed Sharepoint 2013 everyone within the company was sharing files and folders through a shared drive that is mapped to all the workstations. This shared folder on the server is very large, roughly 250gb in size.
I created a Sharepoint site called Document center using a Sharepoint template. Is there an easy way to either upload all those files and directories int sharepoint?
Or even easier, create a link on the sharepoint site that can connect to this shared drive so users can access these files.

You can use a data migration tool from a 3rd party, such as Metalogix, Metavis, AvePoint, or ShareGate to migrate file share content into SharePoint with the metadata (created by, last modified, etc.) intact. You can also use WebDAV (\\sharepointsite\) and
copy them in, but the metadata will be lost.
As far as integrating the file share into SharePoint, take a look at AvePoint's File Share Integration tool (http://www.avepoint.com/assets/pdf/doc6/DocAve_Connector_for_SharePoint_File_Share_Integration.pdf). This is the only one I'm aware of.

  • Restrict workgroup computers in accessing my shared folder

    How to restrict workgroup computers in accessing my shared folder.
    And only allow a specific system in the workgroup to have full control access to that shared folder.
    Operating System :Windows Server 2003

    Hi Tiju,
    You cannot restrict access to a folder using computer accounts. The access to the share folder can only giving to everyone or local accounts if the network environment is
    Workgroup.
    Because the computer account never tries to access the shared folders. The access attempt is made by the user account; and if the user account isn't in the ACL of the file, he won't get access.

  • How can a Win2K/XP user access my Shared folder as Guest?

    Well, it's all in the question, guys. I don't want them to be able to log into my machine. All they need to do is send me some files or take some of mine from \Users\Shared. Surely it shouldn't be too difficult, right?
    We're in an office wired LAN and I'm the only Mac among many incarnations of Windoze. Right now they all have to log in as 'Administrator' (just the accoune name, not the kind of account, of course...) but it means that I have to fiddle with the permissions of the shared dir in that user account so I can access it from my regular account ('Alex') and I would prefer something more straight forward. Such as a Guest User log-in option.
    Many thanks.

    Try Sharepoints. I'm not certain about this, but I think the only way to get access to a Mac over the network is to have an account on the Mac. So, you could set up "guest" as an account and let them log in as that, but it wouldn't give them access to the Shared folder. Sharepoints will let you "share" it out.

  • "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request." when trying to access a shared folder in domain environment.

    Hi,
    I already have a windows server 2003 working as a Primary Domain Controller (PDC) and now I created another windows server 2012 to work as an Additional Domain Controller (ADC).
    - PDC is doing (Active directory domain services + DNS + DHCP)
    - ADC is doing (Active directory domain services + DNS)
    For testing purposes, I shutdown the PDC and let the ADC up and running. Now, Whenever I try to access a shared folder on any server in the domain, I got this message "\\x.x.x.x is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
    Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
    There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request."
    Actually, the replication of AD objects and DNS records between the PDC and ADC is done successfully.  I also can resolve names using the ADC's DNS. Also, I can ping servers hosting the files I want to access.
    Appreciate your help.

    The PDCe is required for a lot of services, to include DFS.
    Turn the PDC back on and try again.  If it's still not working, ensure the file server has the correct DNS entries on the NIC.
    I think I see what you were trying to test.  The issue is that not all DCs are equal.  Yes, they hold the same information, but some DCs do extra work.  That is why FSMOs exist.
    Let me know how it goes.

  • Problem accessing smb shared folder

    Hi,
    I have Linux Ubuntu server in which i have shared folder. Now the problem is from my home (internet) I have connected to vpn connection and trying to access shared folder but it gives an error saying
    "Connection Failed - The Server "my hostname" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name of ip address, check your network connection and then try again.
    But when access same shared folder from any cyber centre (internet cafe) it works fine.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    Gulab Pasha

    I'm not sure how that's better than Get Info and clicking the Locked checkbox.
    In any case, there are a bunch of these. We use a source control system that is not available for the Mac. All the source code that we have to work on is going to be locked.
    What I'd really like to know is whether this is a bug in SL, or is there some setting that I can make that would make SL work like Leopard.

  • Sharing item/folder in SharePoint 2013 on-prem

    I'm trying to share an item/folder in a library (in a subsite that has unique permissions) to a user that doesn't have access to the site/library. Is this even possible?
    I've tried to share the item/folder directly with read permissions, but that doesn't work (access denied). And when I share the library (read permissions) and then share the item/folder it works. But the user cannot open the item (ex. word file), it says:
    "Sorry, we couldn't open: http://urltothedocument.docx".

    Hi,
    Yes, you can share a document or folder in a document library in SharePoint 2013.
    For your issue, please take steps as below:
    1.Go to your site collection -> Site Settings -> Manage Site Collection Features.
    2. Make sure "Limited-access user permission lockdown mode" is deactivated.

  • 14 hive folder in SharePoint 2013 environment?

    Hi, I have two separate standalone SharePoint 2013 setup one is development and one is production.
    My problem is when I go to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\14” location in development server then I see below folders as per below screenshot:
    But if I go to Production server then having only below folders:
    Even if I go to “14\TEMPLATE\controltemplates” folder in Production then all the ASCX files are not there but in Development all default ASCX files are available.
    Why this mismatch in Production and development?
    How to match my Production and development?

    Hi,
    I would be concerned that you may be missing additional files as well, you should have the 7 top level Folders that you show in your first screen shot on all SharePoint 2013 Servers. You should repair the PRD installation.
    Also, why would you use the Stand Alone installation for production. A better approach would be to download the SQL 2012 SP1 Express Edition with Tools and install SharePoint using the Complete installation. However, this is not the reason you are missing
    the folders...

  • Updating MySQL table through SharePoint 2013 list

    Hi,
    Is it possible to perform write operation on MySQL database in SharePoint 2013? I have seen blogs regarding  bdc connection or by using third party tools.Is it possible to perform bcs on MySQL using OData connection or any other out of box technique?

    Hi,
    To access external Data from SharePoint, you have to use the BCS.
    BCS enable you to create External Content Types and External Lists from SQL Server Database or Webservice.
    You will find a complete guide on MSDN right here.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ee556431(v=office.14).aspx
    PS : You have to create the External Content Type from SharePoint Designer on your Dev environement. You will be able to export it to be imported on Test or Prod without any problem.
    You will be able to use the External Content type from Visual Studio in C# with the Object Model if you want to access it through a custom webpart or in your case from an Event Receiver. More information here :

  • Want Access Data Grid control in SharePoint 2013?

    Hello everyone!
    Recently we noticed something funny in SharePoint 2013. While quite many people were hoping to have the datasheet view like those in SP2007 and 2010, Microsoft has chosen a different interface to display datasheet view.
    Now, if you try to create a sub site under a publishing site, and use the
    Publishing Site template then try to create a datasheet view in the sub site, SharePoint will try to use the Access data grid control to display the view. In some situations the view will display and other situations it will not, and will show this
    error:
    The list is displayed in Standard view. It cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls,
    a component is not properly configured for 32-bit or 64-bit support, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled.
    If you create a sub site using Publishing Site with Workflow instead, then the datasheet view will be created properly using SP2013 interface.
    Using PowerShell, we can see that both Publishing Portal and
    Publishing Site With Workflow are using the BLANKINTERNET 53 template. The
    Publishing Site on the other hand is using the CMSPUBLISHING 39 template.
    Want to try it out and let me know if that happens to your SharePoint too?

    Hi Conway,
    I tested the issue in my environment per your description and it returned the results as below:
    I created a subsite using Publishing site under a team site in SharePoint server 2013, the datasheet view in a list displayed as pic1
    I reproduced the issue in SharePoint server 2010, the datasheet view in a list displayed as pic2
    It turns out by design the datasheet view in the subsite based on Publishing site template displays as your situation. Here is an article which explains this:

  • Get Document ID based on specific folder in SharePoint 2013 document library

    Hi,
    I have created document library with multiple folders in SharePoint 2013.I have created workflow to assign file name convention like this "attachment name-ID".When i created document in one folder the ID is 1 and when I created document in another
    folder, the Id is 2.
    But my requirement is to create Id based on the folder means if document is not there in the folder then the document id should start from 1 and Id should ends within that folder and in another folder it should start from 1 again
    Any help?
    Thank you.

    In this case you will have to build a custom document id provider, see here:
    http://www.sharepointeurope.com/blog/2013/11/21/how-to-create-a-custom-document-id-provider-with-sharepoint-2013
    Here's code taken from that post that shows the minimal implementation of such a provider:
    using System.IO;
    using Microsoft.Office.DocumentManagement;
    using Microsoft.SharePoint;
    namespace CustomDocumentIDProvider.Components
    class CustomDocumentIDProvider : DocumentIdProvider
    public override string GenerateDocumentId(SPListItem listItem)
    string retParam = "SPDocID-";
    string path = Path.GetRandomFileName();
    path = path.Replace(".", "");
    retParam += path.Substring(0, 8).ToUpper();
    return retParam;
    public override string GetSampleDocumentIdText(SPSite site)
    return "SPDocID-HT7G4SP7";

  • Cannot access a shared folder Error code: 0x80070035

    Hello Experts,
    I have been working on this issue for like three days without a solution. I am truly desperate.
    My company just purchased a new Cloud Server that we will use as our development environment for a software project. In order for all the developers (which are all over the US) to access the development environment, we need to have a few shared folders on
    that new server.
    As soon as we got the server I did the following:
    1) Installed Active Directory
    2) Created a directory and made it shared - yes IT IS shared.
    3) I created a few new users on the new active directory domain
    THE PROBLEM:
    I can't access the shared directory.
    Other developers have been successful in connecting to the shared folder (so the share is working) - all except me.
    when I open explorer and type \\IPADDRESS\SHAREDFOLDER instead I get this error (I am not even asked for credentials)
    Network Error
    Windows cannot access \\IPADDRESS\SHAREDFOLDER
    Error code: 0x80070035
    The network path was not found.
    Things I have already tried:
    a) Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP - on all adapters - still did not help
    b) Disable IPv6 - I am not sure how to check if it truly disabled
    c) Turned off all firewalls - did not help
    d) Mapping a Drive using different credentials - I just get asked for credentials over and over
    e) Ping - yes I can see the server
    f) My credentials are correct because I can Remote Desktop with the credentials with no problem ( I am administrator)
    My Machine:
    Brand New Asus G Series
    Windows 7 Home Edition
    Any ideas?
    Sorcerdon

    In my case it was that the OU that my system was in did not have firewall rules for network file and printer sharing enabled. I enabled all of the rules for Domain policy and that fixed it.
    I noticed a lot of comments about turning off the firewall not working. I can't be 100% sure, but in my experience with Server 2008 and Windows 7, if you want to configure a service that uses the network the base filter engine and the firewall HAVE to be
    turned on while you configure. You can turn the firewall off after configuration, but they have to be active during configuration.
    Good luck!

  • How to retrieve full flash solution from WSP if not than how to retrieve ascx files from Template folder in SharePoint 2013 ?

    How to retrieve ascx file from the Template folder in SharePoint2013
    My issue is, I have WSP only so I changed into zip and got my all web parts and also one dll file after that decrypted dll and got some C# code
    mixing with some system generated code but not ascx file that is for front-end part. So my question is how we can retrieve full flash solution if not, at least ascx files So if we were on SharePoint 2010 we could have got those file from __Template__
    folder but It’s on SharePoint 2013 and not able to get ascx.
    If we can do so, than will be easy to get the task to be done
    Suggestions would highly be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Amit,
    you can not move specific changes from Dev to production.
    but you can follow this process to make your workflow as it is as in Dev:
    Create a new workflow on the new list in Product.
    Create at least one step, one condition and one action in this workflow.
    1. In Dev server open your .xomal file as XML and copy the entire contents.
    2.In Production server Open your .xoml file as XML and Paste the entire contents
    3. repeat this operation for the xoml.rules file
    4.Double click the .xoml file for the new workflow to open the workflow in the Workflow Designer and click Check Workflow to verify no errors and then click Finish to ensure the workflow is saved.
    Whenever you need to make changes apply the same.
    Please Mark Answer and Vote me if it will to resolve your issue
