Access music from husband's itunes account?

I have an iPhone 4S using my apple ID. All of our music is stored on my husbands laptop under his apple ID. I'm a neophyte-- how can I get our music on my phone to hear when phone and computer aren't both at home?  Do I need to switch the ID on my phone? If so, how, and how do I not lose my pics and apps?

Here's the approach I recommend: You and your husband should keep your separate Apple IDs, and simply ask your husband to grant you access to his music.
If, for example, you and your husband currently use separate computers to synch your respective devices with, then on your computer, you would open iTunes and in the menu go to Store > Authorize this computer and have him enter his Apple ID and password.  Then, all his songs would be playable on your devices.
If his songs are not currently on your computer, you would move them there.  Type Help > Share Your iTunes Library in iTunes to learn how.
I hope this helps.

It will not do anything at all to your computer.

I have DRM protected music from an old iTunes account that will not upload to Match?

Your computer needs to be authorized with the "old" Apple ID. Pull done Store > Authorize... And type the credentials when prompted.

how can I use music from two different iTunes accounts?

If you mean iTunes Store accounts, there's really nothing for you to do. Just add the tracks to the iTunes library and play them. Music purchased prior to late-2009 will been to be authorized, though. Pull down Store > Authorize... and type the credentials of the Apple ID used to buy the tracks.
If you mean something else, please describe in more detail.

  • How do I transfer music from an old iTunes account/library on an old PC to a new iTunes account/library on a new Macbook Air?

I have an old iTunes account on an old PC.  I bought a new MacBook Air less than a year ago.  When I was at the store, purchasing my new Mac, I couldn't remember my old iTunes account password.  The sales rep encouraged me to open a new iTunes account, and assured me I would be able to merge the two accounts.  I have put very little music on my new iTunes account, and I want to figure out how to transfer my old account onto my new computer.  I am about to purchase the new iPhone, which I will use as my main music source since my old iPod just died.   I want to make this transfer before I make my new purchase, as I will be getting a $50 iTunes credit, and I need to know which account to attach it to.  (Also, I was given an iTunes credit on my new iTunes account when I purchased my MacBook Air, which I have not fully used yet.)

Thanks for your prompt response, Niel.  I had already seen that link.  So, my question is if I can't merge the accounts, then what will happen when I move my old library to my new computer?  Will the new computer then have the two separate libraries or will the old library replace the new library?
Also, if both libraries can co-exist on my new computer, it sounds like I will have to choose which library I want to put on my new iPhone, correct?  I won't be able to put music from both, is this right?

    Hi sid1010,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You can redownload music that you have purchased directly to your iTunes Library.  Here's how:

  • Sorting Music from 2 different Itune accounts in 1 Library??

I have music from 2 different i-tunes accounts co-mingled in one library on one of my laptops - I'm not exactly sure how that happened - maybe trying to synch the wrong ipod to the wrong computer? Is there easy way to sort a library by user-account name so I can delete the tracks the computer is not authorized to play? It's tedious to go through the library album-by-album/song-by-song and delete them individually. Thanks!!

My mac mini has more music on than will fit onto my macbook, I do loads of audio editing for post production and have a big part of my sound library on there. And yes, I know the other solution would be to put all of my music on the mac mini, but that's at my office so then I can't use the iPhone with the macbook at home.  And, I don't want to have to take one of my computers to work or vice-versa just to solve this problem.  Anyway, the question is not 'how do I get the music onto my iPhone'.  I just wanted to know if there was any way I could use my iPhone with both of my macs but it seems the answer is no.  As I said, I'll be returning to an android phone as soon as someone buys this crappy iPhone 5c on ebay and then I won't have the problem anymore
As for anti-piracy?????  It is so ridiculously easy to pirate music despite this bizarre system where you can't use 3 bits of technology made by the same company, together?  I would have thought it's more to do with encouraging people to buy their music from the iTunes store rather than other sources.  Maybe I'm just a cynic.....
Have you considered an external hard drive?  Also, if you don't like the Apple procedure, then tell Apple: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • How to remove music from a shared itunes account?

I can click on the song and it will play so im not sure why the cloud button is there but is there any possible way to stop this from happening because its using up a ton of memory that I could be using? I'm assuming there is a setting in itunes that can turn this off?

  • Can I sync music from my parents' iTunes account as well as my own?

I have an iPod and an iPad, and I want to sync music etc from my parents' iTunes library as well as my own. Is it possible to do this?

You mean sync to their iTunes library. An iTunes account is used to make purchases, which then go into the iTunes library on a computer.
As roaminggnome noted, you can only sync to one iTunes library at a time.

Not if he's already using an iTunes account on his phone, no.

  • HT1338 I transfered IPad from PC to Mac...de-authorized and signed in...found ITunes has both my music and music from the previous ITunes account even though it was also de-authorized and signed out and a new sign in ITunes account....

My wife and I decided to switch PC's.  She had an Mac Pro and I had a PC.  Both of us have Itunes (Ipad, Iphones).   She moved her ITunes library to a new PC and de-authorized and signed out from her old Mac Pro.  She signed in and authorized her new PC.  I took her Mac Pro and followed the same process.  In the end we both found our ITunes library mix in with each others music and books.  Despite the fact we are both signed in to our own ITunes account.  Seems like the devices (IPad, etc.) stays linked to the original computer....these devicdes did not contain mix Itunes library (eve after they were synced).

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

  • How do I move my music from an old iTunes account to a new one?

I want to start a new itunes account for my daughter now that she is a teen so that we dont get all each others music. How do I get her 500  songs onto her own new itunes account without having to repurchase them all?

Only the iTunes Store staff can do that if it's possible at all.
