Access old content in AirPort Time Capsule?

Hi,
I've emptied and restored my internal HD (SSD) but can't access the old content in my AirPort Time Capsule. The unit shows up and I enter the password but no show.
Anyone?

I assume that you are asking about Time Machine backups here. Since you erased the old hard drive and installed a new operating system, Time Machine thinks that you have a new Mac.
Try right-click on the Time Machine "clock" icon on the dock, and then click on Browse Other Time Machine Disks to see if your backups are there.
Alternately, you could try Migration Assistant to move over data from a Time Machine backup, or other normal data.

My 5 year old Airport Expresses don't work with the new Airport Time Capsule?

My question is after wasting hours trying to install my new Airport Time Capsule, Ive noticed that the "Airport Utility" doesn't recognize any of my 4 five year old Airport Expresses. An error message says " This version of Airport Utility doens not support this (these) base stations"? Does that mean that their is no work arounds which means I have to purchase 4 replacements?

You need the older airport utility.. that can be installed on Lion or Mountain Lion.. it cannot be installed on Mavericks.. do you have an older computer even a windows one.. or can access, borrow or bribe a friend over for drinks with laptop.. then you can configure your expresses.. !!
There is a rather complex workaround on Mavericks.. when I posted it in the past.. Apple deleted it.. go figure.

How can I access my Airport Time Capsule from a remote location?

I have my 2 TB Airport Time Capsule connected to my home wireless network and I have heard it is possible to access my information stored on it from anywhere, but I have no clue how to do this.

Frankly, this is not easy, and not for the faint of heart. Having someone to help who has done this will save you a ton of time and headaches.

Before you do anything though, Back to My Mac assumes that you have a simple modem......not a modem/router that is often provided by Internet Service Providers to their customers. A modem/router.....also called a gateway.....will not allow Back to My Mac to work correctly, so if you do have a modem/router or gateway device, you will need to speak to your service provider to find out if they can provide you with a simple modem.

Having said this, personally I use another method called Port Mapping to allow my Mac...or an iPhone or iPad connect back to the Time Capsule at home when I am traveling. But, this is even more complicated than Back to My Mac, so BTMM would be the place to start for most users.
If things look intimidating on first pass and you can locate a good tech to set things up for you, that would be money well spent.

HT6065 I installed this update and I no longer can access my AirPort Time Capsule via Finder

When I click on 'AirPort Time Capsule' in Finder, Finder crashes.
I have hundreds of films on a USB drive connected to my AirPort Time Capsule and I no longer can access them on my home network....
Luckily AirPort Utiity still works and I could restart Capsule but no improvement.
Likewise Time Machine still works...

How To Access Airport Time Capsule From Outside Home?

I had Purchased new Airport Time Capsule 2TB, i successfully add it to my local network of the my Home, and connected well remotely with my Mac on the local network.
Is there any way to access my backup files on Airport TC while I been out side home over the internet?

Did you install the airport utility for windows?
Is the windows computer set to home as network location.. it will not work if it is set to work or public.
Is the TC setup with all SMB type names, short no spaces and pure alphanumeric. No apostrophe.
Can you ping the TC from your computer? Open a command window and type ping and the tc name or its IP.
No response you will never be able to get connection .. it is usually firewall problem. Turn off firewall and internet security.
If it pings then simply type the IP directly into explorer.. \\TCIPaddress. (eg \\10.0.1.1 if the TC is at default)
That is usually the most foolproof method.

Using AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by guest account

Is it possible to use my AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by a guest account?
I would like to store a large number of folders containg photographs on my AirPort Time Capsule and allow anyone with a password to access the photographs - at the time of viewing the Time Capsule would be connected to the internet but I wouldn't want users to actually access anything other than the files on the Time Capsule - is this possible? if so any help in configuring it would be really helpful.

No it is not possible.. Guest is just that.. a guest that is allowed permission to access the internet but none of the local files.
To give a person access to the TC they must have password to access your normal network..
From there it is up to you how you do this.. people cannot actually access files on your computers unless you give them share and password permissions for that.. you can even setup accounts on the TC although I recommend against it.. if you want shared photos anyway. All security on a TC is illusion.. merely pressing the reset and it is all blown away.. so if you are concerned about security don't put stuff on the TC people should not access.. or like your TM backups ensure they are encrypted.
A person can then access you TC and the photos.. but what else on the network??

Access iTunes from AirPort Time Capsule

This is really simple.
Get your TC drive up on the desktop.
Locate the directory on your HDD called iTunes (usually under Music).
Drag it onto your TC Drive.
(Now wait for the time that it takes to copy your files over).
Once done, launch iTunes by holding the 'option' key down as well as clicking on the iTunes icon. This will allow you to choose which iTunes to open.
Click on the TC folder with your iTunes in it and VOILA! Off you go.
Once you are happy that this is working (and NOT before), you can delete your iTunes folder off your local HDD and regain your disc space.

Turn off you cable/DSL modem, your computer, and the old router. Disconnect the computer's Ethernet cable from the old router. Replace the old router with the Time Capsule. Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on the Time Capsule. Connect the computer's Ethernet port to one of the LAN ports on the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable.
Turn on the modem and wait until the status lights indicate connection with the ISP. Turn on the Time Capsule and wait for the amber light to begin flashing. Open Airport Utility in your Utilities folder to configure the Time Capsule.
If a user guide came with the Time Capsule I suggest you follow it's instructions.

AirPort time capsule, remote access?

I can not acess my AirPort time capsule from outside home network. It works perfectly inside the home network, but is not accessable remotly (From outside my home net) I can see the time capsule as a shared unit in finder, and the cloud is turned on, but I can still not open th disk from outside home. Every unit is up to date!
Can any please help me!

Between the internet modem and APTC there is also a router. (All the items are wired)
I can see the APTC from the outside world, but can not access it.
Use the method of AFP port forwarding.
This is simple.. the TC must be in bridge..
Map port 548 TCP to the TC.. and ensure the TC is static IP so the port forward is always correct.
Then from the other site you simply access it via AFP.. in Finder go, connect to server, type
AFP://PublicIPaddress
Remember the security here is important so use a decent length disk password.

Forgot password to access my Airport Time Capsule, can't restore Time Machine backup

It is stupid, I know, but after the first time I setup Time Machine in my Airport Time Capsule (6 months ago) i never had to use the password because it stayed stored in my Keychain.
Anyway, couple days ago I had to format the hard drive of my MacBook Pro and I did it thinking that I had a complete data backup stored in my Airport Time Capsule (encrypted data). It was late when I realized that I did not have the password written/stored anywhere. Nothing to do about it, just move on and start all over again.
I need to clean up my Airport Time Capsule and set it to factory default. I already accepted that I will lose all my data and it is okay. So far all I found was how to reset the wifi user/password but nothing about deleting stored data or reset to factory default without having the encrypted password. Can you please help me? Thanks in advance!

The encrypted data is not related to the Time Capsule.. that is purely Time Machine.
Very sorry for you.. it is one big danger when you encrypt.
Reset to factory.
Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Wipe the hard disk. Open the airport utility go to the disk tab. Click on erase disk.
Select just quick erase.. it just deletes the file table and is not secure but fine for your purposes.

How can I get access to my Airport Time Capsule while I have forgotten my password

The harddisk of my iMac had crashed, lately. After te repair the iMac had to configured again, also the connection to the Airport Time Capsule.
I have my password to connect to Time Capsule forgotten. Is there a way to install the Time Capsule again with a new or without a password.

Do I need to resize the sparsebundle file after migrating to new larger AirPort Time Capsule?

Just upgraded my Airport Time Capsule from an old 1TB to a new 2TB version.
I have migrated the sparse.bundle file by using the ethernet method but now I want to know if I need to resize the file using Disk Utility or does it happen automatically? If it doesn't resize automatically then Apple should at least have some option to automate this process as it seems a natural request.
Over time people would want to continue using their same old back up and just allow the file to get bigger as it is moved onto a newer larger device and still have access to all the previous old backups all on one device/system.

It should continue to resize automatically or would if Yosemite worked properly.. since TM in Yosemite is lousy it might well need you to fix it.. It isn't hard.

Airport Extreme Base Station as an wireless Extender to new Airport time capsule

After many months of time machine back up problems. (verify back up failing) I am considering biting the bullet and getting a new 2TB Airport extreme time capsule. Can I use the old (late 2013 801.11ac) airport extreme to extend wifi network?
A few other questions.
1.Does extending reduce wifi performance?
2. If using extreme as extender can I still plug in hard drive or hard drive to it?
3.
currently using imac 21.5 (late 2013) 1TB backing up to 6TB WD mybook live duo (connected to Extreme using ethernet), via airport extreme base station (ac wireless band to mac)

600GB should take 10 hours by ethernet. And it will be somewhat faster by USB3.. exactly how fast is difficult to predict as the first TM backup itself is slow due to many small files. In terms of raw speed maybe twice but it will depend on the disk used. USB you can use an SSD and get super huge speed. (not that I think you will be buying a 1TB SSD anytime soon).
In terms of raw speed it is cheese and chalk. The max speed of real world file transfer on AC wireless is around 430Mbps and that is using ideal world.

This has nothing to do with link speed.. this is how fast a file actually transfers. And that is assuming the iMac and the TC are in the same room. And everything is perfect with nothing else using connection.
The real world speed of USB3 is around 100MB/s to a spinning hard disk..

which may indicate the limit is the actual disk speed. In bits per second you x 8.. so the USB3 is 800Mbps. The advantage of USB direct connection is that speed is available at all time. Not when your close or the load on wireless is low.
Further to your comments when extending. Is it only the area covered by extending that has reduced performance or all the wifi signal?
The speed will depend on hops..
So if the computer is using resources on a local router.. and only one wireless hop then it is fast.
If it is using resources via a second router so wireless goes.. computer--- router2----router1-- resource.
Your speed drops 50% at best.. at worst it is really bad.
For example.. computer 1 on router 1 accesses computer 2 hard disk on router2 with everything wireless.
Count the hops. C1-R1, R1-R2, R2-C2
That gives 3 hops. So each packet is transmitted.. along that chain.. each transmission can only begin after it is received in full. Now add some other computers using resources.. say C3 is using internet via R1.. that has to be time sliced. So you get 50% of 50% of 50% of 50%. It is obvious that wireless networks have a huge handicap.. they cannot transmit and receive at the same time.. nor can they talk to more than one client at a time.. so add time slicing to wireless hopping.
Now ethernet is entirely different. It can transmit and receive at the same time.. ie is duplex. And in a switch it can talk to several computers at the same time. That is why we say.. as much as you can ethernet.. and use wireless as the last single hop to a client that needs it.. ie iphone or ipad.. or laptop if you cannot plug in ethernet.
Can the ac wifi format be extended using AirPort Extreme and time capsule.
Over very short range yes. AC wireless is only on 5ghz and is poor penetration of solids.. so this will work but maybe only to the next room.

You are still hoping for answers without information.
The PC downstairs runs what OS?
You are trying to connect by wireless?
Is there enough signal for the computer's wireless adapter to see it?
If this is old computer have you tested with no security.. briefly remove the security from the TC.. and see if it can connect.
Is the TC using names with spaces and illegal characters like apostrophe.. please change all names to legal for PC network.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
If you fail with both TC name and TC with no security..
Please test with fixed channels.. 11, 6, 1 on 2.4ghz.
No luck then I strongly recommend you run ethernet or use EOP adapters.
