Access Panel Latch Broken - How to Open Case?

The side panel latch on my MacPro no longer functions. It seems as if it is stuck, or a part of the linkage is bent or loose.
Does anyone know of a workaround or trick to get the side panel open so I can see what is wrong with the linkage, and more importantly, get to the internals of the computer.

It may require a wire that is stiffer than a straightened paperclip (the usual solution for everything).
If required, I suggest a straightened wire coat hanger (but cut the wiggly end off the get a straight stiff wire.)

    It is a panel that pops up and the heading on the panel is 'Universal Access', it is actually just an image of a panel, you can't access it.  I have checked keyboard shortcuts and none of them are assigned to the command key only

  • LX800 Series - How To Open Case to Change Hard Drive?

    Hi Everyone,
    Is there anyone out there that can advise me on the best method for Opening My LX series AIO case , so that I can put a new hard drive in it..
     - I have a good image bacup and the Skills to swap the hard drive , I just have no idea on how to open the case.
    Sadly , I have searched pretty much everywhere but cannot find a procedure.. and of course its not in the Toshiba manual that I have access to , I am told there are technical manuals but not available to "end users" like me.
    I have found instructions for another model on these foroums , but its different as the case is very different , and uses clips.
    Would be VERY grateful for any help as I do not want to mess up my case as its only just out of warranty with a "clicking" hard drive that wil not boot.
    Thanks in advance..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Ok , so replaced the hard disk today in my LX800 Series AIO - here is the procedure to open the case - This procedure is quite different from the others (PX Model) I have seen posted at these forums.
    1) Lay your AIO flat down on a cloth or blanket.
    2) Remove the FIVE main Black screws from the rear Perimeter of the case.
    3) Remove the Screw that sits just above the Bar Code label and then remove the DVD/Bluray Drive , by giving it a firm pull.
    4) Remove the hidden (Keyboard/Mouse) USB adaptor that sits behind the door at the bottom left had portion of the back of the machine.
    5) Once the above USB is removed it reveals a small screw under it - remove this screw.
    6) Open the memory access door , there is a small screw revealed - remove this.
    7) Remove the Rubber grommet that sits inset into each of the legs.
    8) Remove the screws that removing the above grommet reveals.
    The back of the case is now held in place by clips around the whole Perimeter. Be very careful and patient and gently pry the two half's of the case apart. I did not have to use a plastic pry tool , as once it go started they just seems to "pop" off one by one, as I worked around. Its not that hard to do if you go easy..
    Then you can now see the hard disk , in a silver shield. Quite easy (but a bit fiddly) to replace.
    I replaced mine with a direct replacement 1TB hard disk that was a 3.25" but was only 20MM thick , as opposed to the more normal 25mm one. I am not 100% sure that a 25mm one would fit , but I think it may with a bit of fiddling around. But I was very aware of possible heat issues , so went for a direct replacement with the exact same model as Tosh has used.
    That's it really , I gave the fan and heat sink a good blow out with Dust off , but after 18 months use they were not to badly clogged..
    Please feel free to ask any questions , will gladly help if I can - which is a great deal more than Toshiba were willing to do lol. Will not be buying any of their products in future  , as I do expect a modicum of support for basic things like case opening.

  • PB G4 65W poweradapter broken, how to open it?

    Hi all,
    The cable running from the poweradapter/charger (model no A1021, 65Watts) to my PB G4/800 has frayed where it leaves the poweradapter/charger cabinet, thus rendering the adapter/charger unserviceable.
    I dislike throwing it into the bin, not for the money but for the sake of the environment. I am willing to give it a repair go, just cut off about, say, an inch and resolder the cable to the PCB. However, I cannot figure out how to open i.e. take apart the cabinet.
    Anyone any hints how-to? Or is this one of those devices for which holds: opening means breaking?
    Thanks for cooperation.
    Sincere greetings from continental Europe,
    Feike L Hoogenbos
    iMac 20"-G5-iSight + PBG4/800   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello eww and all of you out there.
    For eww: thanks for your reply.
    About: “How to take apart the PB G4 65W poweradapter.”
    I tried and it turned into a nitty-gritty enterprise.
    I do not encourage anybody to go down this path, but if you insist, without modellers’ skills and gear, you end up with an adapter that is definitely beyond repair.
    On the other hand, unserviceable it already was, so who cares?
    In short:
    You cannot: the white soap-box like poweradapters for Al, Ti PBks and (some) G4 iBooks, were (probably) never designed with any kind of ‘take-apart’ in mind, in other words: opening indeed equals breaking.
    It is held together by several glued ‘males/females” (like the two fuselage halves in a Revell or Monogram model aeroplane or boat kit, remember that?), about half a meter or two feet of single-sided sticky tape and 20 cm’s or 8 inches double-sided sticky tape and about 15 grams or half an once of silicon-putty, the same kind of stuff you will find as a sealant where your bathtub meets the surrounding tiles.
    The longer story, and remember, I started this all in with the intention (or assumption if you wish) it could be done in a reversible way. How wrong that turned out to be.....
    To open the white box, I used a small-teethed saw-blade, only the blade!
    Method: Sway the adapter’s feet out, clamp the adapter in a vice, claws covered with rubber sheet.
    I carefully sawed in the ‘equatorial’ grooves. Hence the small-teethed saw-blade.
    Look often how ‘deep’ you have sawed, stop when still the thickness of, say, a sheet of paper is left. Sounds difficult, but it is not, you will slowly see copper and aluminium colours appear.
    You cannot saw in the groove at the side where the feet hinge and the cord leading to the PB, leaves the box. Deal with that later.
    Okay, I had three equatorial grooves sawed out and yes, I could feel some ‘movement’.
    By repeatedly sliding and prying a wooden wedge through the sawgrooves and twisting the halves realtive to each other I managed to get some more movement. That all makes quite unpleasant sounds.
    After carrying on like this for about a minute or twenty, suddenly the two halves popped apart with a very nasty ‘tschack’ sound: two male/females broken and the two feet came apart.
    Oh dear, I had disrupted the bond between one side of a two-sided piece of sticky-tape and the upper housing (that caused the ‘tschack’ sound). To the other sticky side: a piece of aluminium sheet (0.4mm or 0.015 inch thick).
    That piece of aluminium sheet on its turn had a rectangular opening in it through which a larger piece of copper sheet (0.45mm or 0.017inch thick) could be seen.
    The aluminium and coppersheets were connected in a somewhat strange way: partly electrically isolated by sticky-tape and silicon putty and partly electrically conducting, i.e. metal on metal contact.
    The copper sheet appeared to be U-shaped, the electronics ‘wrapped’ inside.
    As far as the lower housing concernes: the aluminium/copper contraption repeated or mirrored itself more or less.
    Metal sheet(s) as thin as decribed and bonded to whatever by two-sided sticky tape and/or whatever sticky putty, any attempt to separate those without damage will be futile. No, you wouldn’t leave it overnight in a bowl filled with something like white-spirit, since that will definitely harm the electronics.
    There I was: with wrinkled and bend aluminium and copper sheets and hundreds of silicon-putty chips around the place. But the adapter had been opened!
    I started to wonder why the adapter looked like it looked.
    I think the aluminium/copper sheeting serves as a heatsink and doubles as electromagnetic shielding, hence the somewhat strange looking conducting/non-conducting sandwich and cut-outs in the aluminium sheets. Eddy currents and so forth.
    The adapter is of the switch-mode powersupply type and the mains transformer is a pot-core. This hints towards a quite high switching frequency, say something like 100kHz. It needs to be that high in order to convert 65Watts in such a small box without ending in a disaster.
    This means, the apater is also a potential 65Watt jamming station - be it without a properly tuned antenna - hence the elaborate shielding with copper and aluminium sheets and strategically placed cut-outs, conducting and non-conducting spots.
    I succeeded in taking the frayed cord out, again, not really easy, since room is at a premium in the adapter, but it can be done.
    Next surprise: the cord between the adapter and the PB -a piece of coaxial cable by the way- carries only two conductors: a plus and a minus (an up and a down or how you wish to label it).
    Will I be able to put it all back together again?
    Eh, NO!
    Ironing out the wrinkles in the copper an aluminium sheets, forget it.
    With the wrinkles the whole assembly will be too thick to fit (cram?) into the the two halves of the soapbox.
    And for those who think the whole thing could be glued together with epoxy, the silicon-putty residues are all over the box, so the epoxy or any other glue for that matter, will not stick.
    It is as simple as that.
    However, I learned a lot from this.
    With sincere greetings from continental Europa,
    Feike L Hoogenbos

  • How to open case HP 1000-1324LA Notebook PC

    Hi everybody!
    I've got an HP 1000-1324LA Notebook PC and I want to both upgrade the RAM and take out the HDD to make a back up copy since my operating system is no longer working.
    The case has only 5 screws; one on each corner and a last one just bellow the DVD tray.
    I read somewhere that I may have to remove the complete case by pulling that thingy to extract the battery, but I failed miserably.
    If anyone could help (and give me some details for dummies)
    Cheers in advance

  • Stupidest problem ever - side panel latch won't open!

    has anyone had this problem?
    the other day, I installed some new RAM and had no problem opening the side panel.
    today, I want to put in some new hard drives - and the side panel latch just doesn't open!
    I have no idea what could be causing this - it's just not opening. what could be inside that's preventing the latch from opening?
    help!
    w

    W,
    There are 4 latches located just above the hard drive bays and they fit into a channel located on the side panel. You may have installed the side panel on a very slight angle by not centering the bottom lip in in its matching slot, causing the latches to bind. The other explanation is the channel has loosened on the side panel.
    I would lay the Mac on its side and slightly press on the side panel while opening the latch. If that doesn't work, you can attempt to shift the side panel in its slot. This can be done using a piece of wood and a hammer. Be careful though, you don't want to damage the Mac Pro's exterior or cause any internal damage.

  • How to open front panel of a VI running in RT.

    Hi,
    I have an application to read the encoder position using the cRIO program. I have made an executable and this application runs as startup application whenever the controller reboots. Right now, i am accessing the VI of the startup exe through Remote Panel connection. This works fine but everytime i close the remote panel , i have to reboot the controller for the next view.
    So is there any alterntaive to open the front panel of the VI.
    I tried using VIServer but ran into errors. (i tried using front panel -open property node.did not work)
    Also i do not have any VIs stored on the controller. Only the exe is stored on the ni-rt/startup folder on the RT controller.
    Please let me know how to open this VI.
    Thanks.

    Hi Ben,
    When i close the remote front panel the first time, i am terminating the RT VI which is running on startup.
    So i had to reboot everytime to access the remote VI.  I guess that the VI (exe) should be continuosly running when the RT is started up. The remote panel only should be opened and closed. After I close the remote panel , i want a windows VI to be opened up.
    I have a Windows VI which programmatically opens connection to the RT server for opening the remote panel. The VI runs. When the user clicks Exit on this RT VI, the VI running is stopped and then another windows VI opens up. This works fine for first time. Since the RT VI is terminated, second time , if I run, it says, VI not in server memory.
    Is there a method to close the remote panel programmatically in the RT VI itself. I have a Exit button in this RT VI, so if the user clicks, Exit, the program has to be running, but the remote panel has to close. There is a method called close connection to client , but this does not work in RT , as this requires VI path.. Right now , when the remote panel RT VI is launced, to close the remote panel, i click on the 'close' button on the VI title bar. Again when the remote panel is launched, there is no error. but is there a method to close the remote panel in the server(RT VI itself).   i have attached the VI.
    Thank you.

  • Hp p6367c front panel usb ports: how do I access these?

    There is a button in front along the side that I assume is supposed to open the expansion bay and provide access to front panel usb ports, but nothing happens when I press this button.

    Please look the upgrade and service manual page 13. You will notice the DVD drive, the empty 2nd CD/DVD bay, maybe the pocket drive (if so equipped). Below that is the mystery USB ports, and audio ports.
    The panel likely has a small tab, and the access panel flips up, or slides up/down. Without knowing the exact face plate design, it's difficult to know. But if you look at the manual, the mystery will be exposed.

  • For a SharePoint list LVWP - how to open links in new window? (Without SPD - Without access to server)

    Hi there,
    I canNOT use SharePoint Designer nor do I have access to server to change any 14 hive files.
    I have a SharePoint 2010 List with a field of type Hyperlink. I need these links to open in New Window. Only links with-in this LVWP should open in new window (and not links on Quicklaunch or top nav).
    Any clues how to achieve this please? JS is okay.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    The good news is that you're not the first to have those requirements!
    Here's the JavaScript:
    <script>
    var allLinks = document.querySelectorAll("table.ms-listviewtable tr td a");
    for(var i=0; i<allLinks.length; i++){
    if(allLinks[i].onclick == null){
    var targetUrl = allLinks[i].href;
    targetUrl = targetUrl.indexOf("?") > -1 ? targetUrl + "&isDlg=1" : targetUrl + "?isDlg=1";
    allLinks[i].href= "javascript:var options = {width:500, height:300, url:'"+targetUrl+"'}; SP.UI.ModalDialog.commonModalDialogOpen('"+targetUrl+"', options);";
    </script>
    This script can be saved to a text file and uploaded to a document library. You can then add a content editor web part below your list view web part (so that it doesn't execute until after the list view has loaded) and set the "content link"
    property of the web part to be the path to the uploaded text file.
