Access Photoshop "Help" without launching Adobe AIR?

Is there a way to access Photoshop Help, from the Help menu, without installing or launching Adobe AIR?
I'm not a mobile app developer, plus I've been seeing many security concerns and other problems related to Adobe AIR, like log files filling up hard drives.
Also, I really don't like installing or opening apps on my computer that are not necessary and don't seem safe.
Please help.

Hi,
AIR gets installed with your point product, but you will get AIR update notifications, at launch of an AIR app, if it's outdated.
If you really don't want to use the AIR based Help app, then you can change a preference in said app. This will change the way Help is called from Ps and launch directly to the web based Help content in your default browser. You can also download the PDF help content if you don't have internet connection or would like to print out some content.
To change the Help launch target, first launch the AIR based app via Help> Photoshop Help... (cmd+/) Then at the top menu bar, go to Adobe Help> Preferences (cmd+,). In this dialog (see screen shot below) go to the Accessibility Mode: section and select the 'Open Help in browser' radio button. Now close the dialog via Done button, and quit the application.
You may need to relaunch Ps, I'm not sure.

steve

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, the AIR team is aware of this issue on Ubuntu. And we are looking into this.

  • Running Adobe AIR applications without having Adobe AIR installed

Is running Adobe AIR applications without having Adobe AIR
    installed possible?
    Why wouldn`t it be?
And if not, when will it be possible?
    Thank you.

There's no technical way this could be possible. It's like a
.swf playing without the Flash Player installed, or a Java applet
without the Java Virtual Machine. Or even like a Windows
    application running without Windows. :)
There are, however, 3rd party wrappers out there to turn AIR
apps into native OS apps (basically it wraps the AIR Runtime inside
a native OS executable, like .exe). One that I can name off the top
of my head is the Shu wrapper. This is like the old school Flash
projectors, like Zinc and mProjector. The user doesn't have to
install anything to run native executables.
I would be surprised if Adobe has any plans to make an
executable wrapper for AIR, but I don't know anything. I would like
to see .air files be able to run in the AIR Runtime without having
to actually install the .air package, though.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 and Adobe Air will not exe after installation

I am currently running elements 8.  Since yesterday the photoshop elements editor will not execute, but crashing after it tries to initiates TWAIN.
I have been uninstalling and reinstalling since yesterday.
    1. I have deleted elements preferences.
    2. I have used my utility drive to clean up clutter and excess files.
    3. I have cleaned my registry using Systems Mechanic
    4. I have installed the program from the desktop.
    5. I have copied the execution file to the desktop to use as a shortcut.
    6. I have turned off all devices and drivers that might be interfering and installed in simple mode.
    7. I have updated my drivers.
    8. I have tried the repair function
    9. I have removed the program manually to ensure nothing is lingering and then tried reinstalling.
    10. I have tried Systems Restore.
    11. I am in the process of defragmenting my hard drive
    12.  I have tried installing from the D: drive
After all of this nothing has worked, and to make matters worse, now Adobe Air is crashing.
Is there anything else that I have not tried that might remedy this problem.
I have the program on another computer and it works fine.

Go into the program files (program files(x86) for a 64-bit system), find the Elements 8 folder and within that Plug-ins>ImportModules and delete the Adobe TWAIN plugin. (You may have trouble scanning directly into the editor after doing this)

  • Flash Professional Help | Publishing for Adobe AIR for desktop

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/using/publishing-adobe-air-desktop.html

This page is extremely helpful. Thank you!
With the help of this page, I've managed to figure out how to do most of what I need to do, however, I'm having troubles creating a Mac and Linux installer for my application. So far, I have only been able to create a Windows installer (.exe). In the "general" tab, the only options I have in "output as" are "AIR package", "Windows Installer" and "Application with runtime embedded".
I am using Adobe Flash Professional CS 6 and am using a Windows 7 computer.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Please help me install Adobe Air. Nothing I've tried has worked.

Last week I joined the CC. I have successfuly installed "Edge Animate," "Edge Insspect" and "Photoshop." I tried to install Adobe Muse and have been unable to do so because I can't get "Air" to install. We're talking near a week of doing everything I could find, here on the forums, Adobe's support network, etc. Today I reset the hosts file and did everything that article told me to do. So far nothing has worked. The only thing I haven't done is to do a re-install of Windows 7. I need your help.

I have just leased Adobe Muse CC. When the Creative Cloud app tries to download and install the program it continues to fail installation. The error code is allways the same one.
    Exit Code: 7
Please see specific errors below for troubleshooting. For example,  ERROR:

I've been going through this for three days. What happens to the "Third party payload installer: InstallAdobeMuse.exe?"

  • Create document from template without launching Adobe Bridge (InDesign CS4)

When I select "New Document from Template...  while using InDesign CS4, Adobe Bridge launches instead of a search menu.
It's much harder for me to navigate through Bridge than it is with a standard New menu. How can I get InDesign NOT to launch Bridge when this happens?

Just use File > Open... and navigate to the template you want to use.

  • Help! Run AIR Applications without Adobe AIR.

Hello, I wanted to ask that is there any way to run AIR applications without having Adobe AIR in the computer. It's really annoying when you have to give someone your application to use and then the person needs Adobe AIR to run it. Any suggestions?

    Where to start...
AIR is a lot like Java in the sense that it requires a run-time engine to be installed. This engine has all "things" required to for the application to run. In a similar way, applications such as 3DMax or Word require that the operating system be present for them to run. Those programs are written using API calls that are present within the target operating system. Likewise, AIR and Java apps are written using API calls that are present within their run-time. To bring it full circle, AIR is an application written in C, that uses APIs for the target operating system. So, when you perform certain functions within AIR, it then knows how to execute needed operating system functions (as needed). AIR also provides a lot of higher level functionality and management that make your life as a programmer a lot simpler.
Looking at iOS or Android, we have the same thing happening. Some developers are writing apps using Objective-C (iOS) or Java (Android) that are using APIs specific to those operating systems. This is the same as writing your app in C like 3DMax.

  • Adobe AIR 14  video player app : windows 8+, Mac OS 10.8 &10.9, android 4+ not mentioned in Access tech specs

We're currently studying to develop a video player app using AIR 14 targeting Windows, Mac OS and Android.
Access DRM is needed but reading online tech specs (URL Adobe Access - Tech specs), there is no mention of windows 8+, Mac OS 10.8 &10.9, android 4+ support.
Can you please give us accurate information on that topic ?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    Sorry for delayed reply.
Adobe Access DRM are supported on those platforms.
Basically Adobe Access requirements are same as Adobe AIR requirement.
    Thanks,

You can use After Effects Help without using the AIR application. You can either use the HTML version of After Effects Help on the Web or the  PDF version of After Effects Help.
For information on how to fix this problem with the AIR application, see the Community Help Client forum.
