Access point selection

Hi guys,
I have a unsigned midlet installed in nokia 6600. This midlet opens an http connection and it asks for permission before connecting. I understand this can be solved if I sign my midlet with a trusted certificate. But phone also asks to select Access Point. I want it to be automatic. Will this problem be solved if I sign my midlet? If not what else I should do? I don't find any default access point option in the phone. Please help me.
Thanks
jmguy

think the addition of the "destinations" support in S60 wasn't thought out well enough in terms of compatability either.
There's multiple 3rd party applications that create virtual access points for VPN connections or to better support connection roaming, that appear to existing applications as just another access point, yet when this capability was added into the OS it was done in such a way that existing apps could not use it.
#fail IMO.

  • N97 OTA access point help

hi all, got a probem here that seems to been doin my head in over the last few days. basically i bought a brand new locked to tmobile N97, im a virgin customer.. now, i'm wanting to do a firmware upgrade.. due to having an old **bleep** laptop that only has 248mb of ram i cant d the upgrade via nokia pc suite so my only other option is OTA.. right, so, i dial *#0000# then go to options, then check for updates... up pops a message saying a need to define an access point, ok.. not understanding it much i try and manually add some stuff myself, to no avail... then i do some forum posting and manage to get these settings: Server Name Nokia Server ID Nokia Server password firmupservpass Access point [select your preferred AP] Host address https://dms.update.nokia.com/dms/omadm Port 443 User name nokiams DM password nokiamspass Allow configuration Yes Auto accept all requests Yes but... that hasnt solved my problem, when entered and i try to connect to do the upgrade i get a connection error. my only option is this forum, its a nokia fone and a nokia forum i cant get my head round it as i can use the internet n my fone brilliantly, surely the internet and the OTA access point are the same thing?

To add an access point select settings-connectivity-destinations-Access point , Automatically search for available access points ?, select yes and choose access point. Then go into Internet and set the priorities to WLAN number 1 T-Mobile number 2 etc
    Good Luck
PS Nokia Software Updater should still work on computer, even with low memory or weak internet , just a bit slower.
If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :

  • Access point problem

I installed a MIDlet in my nokia 6600. When application tries to open an Http connection I have to select the access point. In my mobile I have set my default access point. Still it asks me to select access point everytime. How can I make the access point selection automatic? Can somebody please help me?
    Regards to everyone.

2.2mb of free space seems to be more than enough for you to create a new access point, hmm.. strange.
Would you want to try  freeing some memory space by moving gallery items from the phone memory to the memory card? If it still don't work, restoring of factory settings might work but all data will be lost if you choose to restore all. The last resort would be to have a software reflashing which can be done either via the NSU or at the service point.

  • E71 Access Point Choice Mail for Exchange

I am used to using the iPhone where whenever you go somewhere, the phone detects available networks and you choose the one you want to connect to. I don't understand why in Mail for Exchange you must define an access point. Is there a way to have the access point selected whenever you enter a new area? And when there is no wireless network available, should it automatically use the GPRS network?
    Thank you.

I would have to agree with you on that, it's my one and only complaint about the current S60 software.. Just about all other plaforms offer this function and Nokia used to with connection groups.

  • Nokia N8 Protected Access Point Removal

I recently purchased a second hand n8. The phone itself works perfectly but it is from vodafone and i'm on an orange  contract. The phone still has all the vodafone access point etc stored in it and I cannot seem to delete them as i am told they are protected. I have added my orange access points and can use them without a problem but the phone seems to still attempt to connect to the vodafone AP's first even though i have made the orange ones a higher priority
Is there any way to get rid of these? Really sick of the "Connection Failed" pop up every time I do something that needs a connection.
    Thanks,
    Stuart

    Hi,
If Orange access point is fixed as top Access Point, move  Vodafone by going to setting > connectivity >settings> destinations > internet > press and hold the vodafone access point >  select move to other destination and choose any destination that apears e.g. (intranet).
You should also check if Orange Access Point is configured in some applications like positioning settings in Maps. Change this by going to settings > application settings > positioning > positioning server > server settings > define server as supl.nokia.com by going to options > new server. If you press supl.nokia.com it will show you the first priority access point.

  • E61 - Cannot remember its access points when loose...

    Hi,
I live in Canada but came a couple years ago from Europe with an E61 that I already owned.  Even though I love the phone, I have had a recurrent problem which I haven't been able to resolve despite an extensive search on the net.  As soon as I go in a tunnel, subway, building, underground.... I logically loose signal from my current network ... and the phone looses its current access point connection which prompts a menu to manually reselect the access point once the network is back.  But, if I do not rapidly execute the manual selection of the access point on the phone, the phone kind of freezes, then reboots, reconnects to the network, asks me again to manually select my access point from the list.  If again I don't make the selection, the phone will go in a loop and will reboot until it fully drains the battery ... and that's the other problem.  If I don't pay attention, the phone will deplete its battery in a very short time by constantly rebooting...
I just came back from a trip in Europe and while I was connected to French phone networks, as soon as I would loose signal (in the fast train for instance), the access point selection menu would reappear..So, the problem is not just in Canada.
Any ideas, suggestions?  I am up to date with my system.  I checked it.
Thanks very much in advance for your help.

You don't mention it, but I would assume the software for the device is being installed using an administrator account...if not, you should make sure that it is installed that way...and check during the install to see if there is an option anywhere to install for all users...

  • 5800: How can I select access points manually in a...

The access point management of the 5800 is somewhat different: using Web you can select the access point every time you start it, but other applications using network (e.g. Opera Mini) start connecting Wifi or 3G whatever comes first which means when you are in another country and the signal of a Wifi hotspot is too weak it will select 3G and does not notify the user of it, which will cost lots of money then.
Is there a possibility that I can select manually  the access point at every application start like Web does ?
The older Nokias (e.g. E70) allowed to do this.

Then you can only select that that access point is selected automatically at next use. This means when you are in another country and the signal of a Wifi hotspot is too weak it will select 3G and does not notify the user of it, which will cost lots of money then.

The new "Destinations" method of managing the internet reflects the fact that many users now connect via several networks. A typical setup for the "Internet" destination might be:
    Priority 1: Home WLAN
    Priority 2: Work WLAN
    Priority 3: Operator AP
This way, the phone searches for the various APs in order of preferennce when you access the internet, allowing you to use different networks without switching the AP in settings.
Individual applications may have their own AP settings which override the phone's standard setup - I can't speak for Opera Mini, but I can give N-Gage as an example of an application that ignores the phones main settings in favour of its own configuration.

  • Nokia Messaging - Selecting an access point (N95)

Apologies if this has been covered before - I searched but couldn't turn up anything.
Maybe i'm missing something really obvious, but how/where on a N96 do I select which connection / access point the Nokia Messaging app uses to sync?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Auto Select Access Point

My MacBookPro (OS X 4.11) can log onto two access points. The stronger signal, which it always selects, is an unsecured Linksys which is not part of the correct LAN. The weaker signal, a Netgear, is secure and my MacBookPro is recognized. I can force it to select Netgear, via the antenna icon.
How do I set up the MacBookPro to autoselect the Netgear access point?
    Thanks

Open the Network panel of System Preferences. Select the AirPort connection item, then click the "Advanced" button. Under the AirPort tab you should see a list of "Preferred Networks". Move the Netgear network to the top of the list.

  • How do I make my AirPort Extreme a access point?

I just bought a Time Capsule and now I want to extend my range of my network.  How do I make my AE an access point?

In this case, you will want to configure both base stations in an extended network.
Dynamic WDS - Extending a Wireless Network Setup
If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
Open AirPort Utility, and then, select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless.
Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
Enter the base station network and base station password if necessary.
Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • How can I turn mac mini into wifi access point for iPhone?

    Hi,
I do not have a wifi router.
I want my iPhone to be able to use my broadband internet instead of the slow EDGE internet.
The simple solution would be to buy a wifi router whih would enable my iPhone to access the wifi home network.
*What if I could turn the mac mini into a wifi access point?* That would save me from the hassle of buying a wifi router.
Any idea how to do this??
    Message was edited by: d00by666

    I did this.
I think I am doing something wrong. I am doing something wrong in this setting *from ethernet to airport*.
    see attached screenshot.
To start Internet sharing on a computer using Mac OS X:
    1. Open System Preferences, click Sharing, and then click Internet.
    2. Select how you would like to share your Internet connection, and then click Start. You
can choose to share your Internet connection with AirPort-enabled computers,
computers with built-in Ethernet, or both.
    Note:
If your Internet connection and your local network use the same port (built-in
Ethernet, for example), contact your ISP before you turn on Internet sharing. In some
cases (if you use a cable modem, for example) you might unintentionally affect the
network settings of other ISP customers, and your ISP might terminate your service to
prevent you from disrupting its network.
    3. If you want to share your Internet connection with computers using AirPort, click
AirPort Options to give your network a name and password.

  • I have an airport extreme i am trying to add to an existing netowrk as an access point not as a router, any help is appreciated as i don't know much about networking.

At my work we have a modem and router to network 8 different pc's- all hard wired. My boss wants me to add an airport extreme so that he can get wireless connection on mobile devices. when i plug in the airport it creates a new network and i need to be able to connect to the existing network and not have the routers compete. is there a way to make the airport an access point instead? maybe by adding it to the exisiting router instead of one of the workstations?

When you introduced the AirPort Extreme, you had a condition where you have two routers in series. The simpliest solution is to reconfigure the downstream router (in this case the Extreme) as a bridge. This will allow the upstream router to provide the required NAT & DHCP services to all network clients regardless of which router they are connected to.
To reconfigure the Extreme as a bridge, you will use the AirPort Utility. (Note: I will provide the steps for using AirPort Utility v5.x)
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup
Internet > Internet Connection tab > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)

  • Disable Edit Point Selection

An old thread turned back up recently and reminded me of this.  I know a lot of keyboard editors requested edit point selection and Adobe has catered to that request.  Unfortunately, a lot of us combo editors (keyboard/mouse) are now stuck with a feature that actually slows down the edit process.  I'd love to return to the way 5.5 worked in this regard - no edit point selection, and only Slide or Ripple edits available with the normal Selection tool (V), with Rolling edits requiring the switch to the Rolling Edit tool (N).  So, here is a Feature Request that can be copied/pasted into the Adobe form.
Please add a new option under Edit>Preferences>General... labeled "Allow Edit Point Selection".  With this option checked, Premiere Pro would function as it does in CS6 and the user would be able to select edit points in the sequence.  With it unchecked, Premiere Pro would function as it did in 5.5 and no such selection would be possible.
Regardless of how that box is checked, please remove the ability to perform Rolling Edits when the standard Selection Tool is being used (V) as it actually interferes when trying to access the normal Slide or Ripple edit functionality.  For Rolling Edits, we have a Rolling Edit tool.  We do not need that functionality doubled up.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

I canreally  understand why "drag and drop and mouse trim" (plus razor tool) editors might dislike Edit Point Selection functionality.
So...I dont mind if you guys do get your wish as regards making this an OPTION....but I do not want it to dissapear or get broken!
I am fine with Edit Points and have adapted to it by a simple change of how I "edit the cuts and trims".  I really like my new "edit style" but admit I also get caught by it occassionally.
In that regard....I wont support your Feature Request because I am fearful that something else will get broken in the process of fulfilling your wish.... or something else will change that I have to adapt to again.
    Good luck anyway.

  • IOS 6.0.1 - Problems with certificate based authentication on wireless access point

    Hi all
We are using iPad 2 as order terminals in our shops for about 5 months. Some of the iPads (the first who entered the field) started to cause problems now. These iPads are no longer able to keep long-term connection to the wireless access point in our stores. After selecting the SSID a successful authentication using the stored EAP-TLS certificate is performed (this can be seen in the log files of our wireless controller and by the IP adress that is given by DHCP). But within seconds the affected iPads opening up a captive portal page (empty, without contents) and separates the connection to the SSID after a short time again.
Affected are currently only iPads 2 with iOS 6.0.1, which were staged about 5 months ago. The newer devices with iOS 6.1+ connect without problems and open no captive portal page. The first cases occurred on the last Wednesday. Before that everything worked without difficulty. No modifications took place on the security structure.  The numbers of affected devices increased until all iOS 6.0.1 were affected.
Access to other SSIDs (without use of certificates, by entering a key) for the devices is still possible (the devices does not open an captive portal page). The DHCP scope is not used up, so there are enough IP addresses available.
"Newer iPads" with an iOS of 6.1+ are are showing no problems on the same wireless access point, where the older devices are rejected. New and old devices use the same certificates and authentication mechanisms.
In the analysis of the issue, it turned out that  the problem can be solved by an update to iOS 6.1.3. Subsequently, the iPads will be able to rebuild a connection with the access point, without a captive portal page.
Since the bandwidth is very narrow dimensioned in our stores, the communication of the iPads was severely restricted. Thus, the iPads are for exampleare accessible for the APNS but can not find iOS updates or check for their availability.
A comprehensive update to iOS 6.1.3 is currently excluded.
Does anyone knows this issue? What else can be done (except from updating)?

I will answer my own question in case it helps anyone else.
It would "seem" the ios 6 devices try the proxy and if that is not working they resort to the def gateway.
To Fix I did the following:
Brocade WIFI network has IPS and Advanced Firewall rules that seemed to be tthwarting some traffic, the iphones would then try the default gateway and be blocked at the FW.
I disabled the IPS and the Advanced Firewall Settings on the wifi as they are redundant to our main IPS and firewall that all traffic flows through anyway.  I will tune it later, but when the CEO is demanding a fix "**** the security, full speed ahead"
Created some rues on the firewall to allow...
    - IMAP-SSL (port993) outbound
    - SMTPS (port 465) to yahoo servers outbound
    - tcp port 587 to yahoo servers outbound
    - https to akamai servers
Most http and https goes through the proxy as it should, BUT...
It seems that the akamai traffic allways ignores the wifi proxy settings and just heads straight for the default gateway.  I suspect there is a bug in the icloud app?
    Hope this helps someone else.
