Access Point support on WiSM 2

I think I already know the answer, but I cannot find any solid documentation.  Does the WiSM2 support the 1231G AP, if so can anyone provide documentation?
Thanks.

Stephen,
In the following link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7_3_112_0.html
it says AP 1131 it's still supported in 7.3.112.0. But for 1232 Last Support is mentioned as 7.0.x.
I have a network with WiSM2 as controller and several 1131 and 1232. My Controller version es 7.2.110.0 and both models of AP are working.
Now, I have customers with Windows 8 and I need to upgrade from 7.2.110.0 to 7.3.112.0. Will the Cisco AP 1232 still supported in version 7.3.112.0? If not, What alternative I had to take in order to support Windows 8 customer with AP 1232?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

  • Cisco 2602 Access Point - Support

    Dear Team,
Could you please advise, if Cisco 2602 Access Point supports IPS and CleanAir along with Access Point feature or does it need to work as standalone to have these functions enabled ?
    Regards,
    SID

Might as well add my 2¢
In order to have CleanAir, you need a WLC.  In order to do IPS, wireless its called wIPS, you need an MSE and NCS or Prime Infrastructure.
A standalone access point (autonomous) is just a dumb AP and can't perform any of those functions:)
    Thanks,

  • Can a single Access Point support both bridge mode and Access Point mode at the same time

    Hi Guys
Does anyone know which access point can work in both bridge mode and AP mode ?
    Cheers

Well what are you trying to cover. If its really a large outdoor area, then look at the mesh AP. Those require a WLC. Autonomous or stand alone ap can perform bridging on one radio and client access on another. You can also look at AP that support indoor mesh that also controlled by a wlc. If your putting APs outdoors, then look at the outdoor mesh.

I have found the data sheets to be very helpful, concise documents:
Please try this link. It lists all current access points with quick links to the datasheet for each one:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/products_category_buyers_guide.html#http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/products_category_buyers_guide.html?linkpos=1#number_1
For the 350 series (which I think is end of sale) you will need to use this link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps458/products_data_sheets_list.html
Finally, although it may be stating the obvious, but since you are asking about data rates, please keep in mind that although the access point "data rates" are 11Mbps for 802.11b and 54Mbps for 802.11g & 802.11a, your actual throughput of the access point is approx. half that data rate:
Here are some approximate (from my memory) throughput rates you would expect to see (from the perspective of the attached client, laptop, etc.) if only one client were attached to the access point:
    802.11b at 11Mbps data rate: 6Mbps throughput
802.11g at 54Mbps data rate: 22 Mbps throughput (with no 802.11b clients connected)
802.11b/g at 11Mbps & 54Mbps data rates for b & g respectively: 8 Mbps throughput on the g client and, presumably 6 Mbps on the b client (with one 802.11b & one 802.11g client on the same radio)
802.11a at 54Mbps data rate: 24 Mbps throughput
As you add more RF clients to the radio, the bandwidth is divided up further. Also keep in mind that the RF connection behaves similarly to a shared hub, so it operates as half-duplex.

  • Access Point support 802.11a/g/b/r

can you suggest me the access point which support 802.11a/g/b/r ?
My problem is with 802.11 r. i am not getting clear idea about the wireless access point which will support 802.11r
    kindly suggest me the product

There are no APs that support 802.11r yet. 802.11r is a standards extension to support fast secure roaming that was only ratified a month or so ago. It requires client device support and there are no clients that support it yet.
If you want fast secure roaming, Cisco offers CCKM on all our APs and CCKM and PKC on all our controllers.
I suspect though, that you may have meant, 802.11n, which is a higher data rate PHY/MAC standards extension. That is supported in the AP1250 series.

  • Poe for 1524 access points

    Hi,
I had a basic question about PoE operation on 1524 ap's. They have two Poe ports; poe out and poe in.
If the 1524 will be connected to a PoE supported switch like 3750, which port should the UTP cable be connected from 1524 towards the switch port, PoE OUT or PoE IN?
lastly, if the 1524 is connected via UTP to a PoE supported switch, does it need power injectors.
    Appreciate all help.

    Hey,
The access point supports an Ethernet uplink port (POE-In) and a downlink port (POE-Out). The access point's Ethernet uplink port uses an RJ-45 connector (with weatherproofing) to link the access point to the 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, or 1000BASE-T network. The Ethernet cable is used to send and receive Ethernet data and to optionally supply inline 56-VDC power from the power injector. The minimum length of this cable must be not less than 10 feet (3 meters).
The access point's downlink Ethernet port uses an RJ-45 connector (with weatherproofing) to provide LAN connectivity and IEEE 802.3af power to a peripheral customer device, such as a camera or sensor gateway. The BVI MAC addresses are printed on the label on the side of the access point
To provide inline PoE, you must use the 1520 series power injector. Other power injectors, PoE switches, and 802.3af power sources cannot provide adequate power, which may cause the access point to malfunction and cause over-current conditions at the power source. You must ensure that the switch port connected to the access point has PoE turned off.
    Hope This Helps.

  • 11b client and 11g Access Point

Can 11g Access Point support 11b client ?
    i have a Access Point AIR-AP1231G-E-K9.
Users with a 11g client adaptor is able to login successfully, but users with 11b client adaptor is not able to login.
How should i configure that AP so that 11b client can login as well ?
Should i downgrade my access point back to pure 11b ?

    Hi
11b users should be able to log in, as this AP supports both 11b and 11g at the same time.
    Please try this:
    Under interface dot11Radio0, configure:
    speed default.
This should set data rates to factory default settings allowing both 802.11b and 802.11g client devices to associate to the access point’s 802.11g radio.

  • Which Access Point?!

I am assigned to implement a wireless network and i intend to use repeater mode in the building but, there is one problem, iam not sure which access point supports more than one MAC address to repeat to and the other to recieve (trying to input more than one MAC address in each AP for redundancy).
Does anyone know a Cisco or non Cisco AP that supports more than one MAC address for repeating mode?
    Thanks.

Depending on the size of the building, that approach may not work well in practice.
Ignoring the potential bottleneck of the 100/1000 connection between the single AP and the WLC/Switch (depending if Autonomous or WLC), repeating the signal X amount of times also reduces the speed/throughput as mentioned by Leo above.
If you only have a handful of clients using this Wireless Network, it may be fine but its definitely not suitable for a larger deployment where you expect to have maybe 10-15 people per AP.

  • Which access point does it please??!

    Hi aeronav01,
What pinkyzeny suggested is fine. Bridge mode configuration might not be the right one for the set up you want. WAP300N has a repeater mode. You just have to make sure that the access points configured as a repeater should be facing in different directions to avoid interference. Or you may just configure it as a plain access point and create different networks for each. You may also refer to this link for Bridge Mode .

  • 1600 series Access Point

i want to know 1600 series Access Point support the below or not :-
    1)Support up 64 Users
    2)VPN pass-through support
    3)Wireless Distribution System
    4)Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) 64-bit, 128-bit encryption

    Hi Peter,
will you use this AP as standalone or  with Controller ?
    1. Normally, the AP is a shared medium and acts as a wireless hub, the performance of each user decreases as the number of users increases on an individual AP. Ideally,as rule of thumb not more than 25 clients should associate with the AP because the throughput of the AP is reduced with each client that associates to the AP.
    2. VPN connection will work with this AP.
    3. WDS supported.
    4. yes, It supports.

  • HP photosmart 7520 connects to wrong access point and looses connection

I recently installed a remote wireless access point in an outbuilding.  I'm using a router with the same SSID and password as my main router with the same security settings.  Only the main router is set to issue IP addresses.  The system works fine with two laptops, a desktop, an Ipad and an Ipod.  It provides continuous connections from my house to the outbuilding.  Only the HP Photosmart seems to be an issue.  At first the system worked fine then after a couple of days it lost its connection.  I tried to the Wireless Setup Wizzard with no success.  The Wireless Network Test results indicated that MAC address filtering may be enabled.  This is not the case, MAC filtering in not enabled on either router.  The next morning the printer was fine and connected again.  I suspect that it is detecting the remote router and trying to connect through it.  During the setup a warning came up indicating that two routers were detected with the same SSID and Password and that the printer might try to connect to the wrong router.  It should not matter since the remote router connects and is issued IP addresses through the main router.  The only difference in the routers is the BSSID.  This uses the same number as the  MAC filtering address, so I suspect this may be the problem.  Any suggestions on a work around.  The only thing I have found that solves the problem is turning off the remote router.

    Hello there -
Is it possible your new remote access point only supports the 5Ghz band for N connection, or that it's connected to your primary router through a wireless N connection in the 5Ghz band?  The 7520 only supports 2.4Ghz N connections.  If your primary access point supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, that is likely why it's able to connect there while it cannot connect to the new access point.  Many newer laptops and iPad/pods utilize 5Ghz N, which would explain why they can connect and your 7520 cannot.  I'd recommend moving the 7520 closer to the primary router and using AirPrint to send your jobs.

  • Bridging with 1131 Ag series access point.

    Hi,
I want to use 1131 AG series access point for bridging between two buildings which are 20 metres apart from each other.
Is it possible and what are the limitation for this design?
    Please help.
    thanks in advance.
    Pulkit Sharma

    Hi Pulkit,
The autonomous 1130AG series access point supports these operating wireless modes:
? Root access point?Connected to a wired LAN and supports wireless clients.
? Repeater access point? Not connected to a wired LAN, associates to a root access point, and supports wireless clients
? Workgroup bridge? Not connected to a wired LAN, associates to a root access point or bridge, and supports wired network devices.
As this unit was not designed to be use outdoors, having a clean RF line of sight is really difficult. To be honest I do not think this unit was designed to connect two remote buildings even if the units are indoors. I would look for APs with detachable antennas like the 1242AG or the 1200 modular series so you can use external antennas and bridging roles.
    Hope it helps,
    Roger Carpio.

  • IOS to LWAPP for 1130AG Access Points

We have initially installed IOS-based 1130 APs. If we would be upgrading it to LWAPP mode, could we pushed IOS-to-LWAPP upgrade thru the network? what procedures are required?

    Hi Leopoldo,
    This is possible and fully supported and can be done using the "LWAPP Upgrade Tool". Have a look at the following;
    LWAPP Upgrade Tool Troubleshoot Tips
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008072d9a1.shtml
Access points must run Cisco IOS Release 12.3(7)JA or later before you use the upgrade tool.
    System Requirements
You can use the Autonomous to Lightweight Mode upgrade tool to install Cisco IOS Release 12.3(11)JX on these access points:
All 1100 series access points containing MP21G (802.11g) radios
***All 1130, 1230, and 1240 series access points
All modular 1200 series access points running Cisco IOS software and containing these supported radios:
    802.11g: MP21G, MP31G
    802.11a: AIR-RM21A-x-K9, AIR-RM22A-x-K9
All 1300 series access points in access point mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/ios/release/notes/b311jx1.html
Cisco has released a free tool called the "Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool" that allows selected Cisco Aironet autonomous access point models to be configured for lightweight mode operation.
The Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool supports the following models:
Cisco Aironet 1240AG Series access points
Cisco Aironet 1230AG Series access points
    Cisco Aironet 1200 Series access points that contain 802.11g (AIR-MP21G-x-K9) and/or second-generation 802.11a radios (AIR-RM21A-x-K9 or AIR-RM22A-x-K9)
Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series access points
**Cisco Aironet 1100 Series Access Points that contain 802.11g radios (AIR-AP1121G-x-K9)
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Access Points/Bridges (AIR-BR1310G-x-K9 or AIR-BR1310G-x-K9-R). A Cisco Aironet 1300 Series operating in Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) mode only operates as an access point. This series does not support LWAPP bridging mode.
The Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool supports a process to migrate an autonomous access point from autonomous mode to lightweight mode. Unlike a VxWorks to Cisco IOS Software upgrade, this process is a Cisco IOS Software upgrade to the existing Cisco IOS Software image-not an operating system "swapout". In converted access points operating in lightweight mode, Cisco IOS Software continues to run on the access point, while LWAPP is used to communicate with a wireless LAN controller. Since LWAPP supports automatic access point configuration, there is no need to retain or convert the original autonomous Cisco IOS Software access point configuration.

  • Cisco Aironet 1700 access-point?

Earlier this month Cisco released a new autonomous IOS for the 2700 and 3700 access-points. If I look at the release logs, they reference to a new 1700I access-point:
Support for Cisco Aironet 1700 Series access point
    - This access point is built on 3x3:2(2.4GHz), 3x3:2(5GHz) MIMO technology, and comes with integrated antennas, and supports 802.11a,b,g,n,ac. This access point has both primary and secondary gigabit Ethernet ports. The primary port is gigabit Ethernet 0 and is the backhaul port. The primary port can be set as trunk port. The secondary port is gigabit Ethernet 1, and is the access port. You can configure the secondary port to a VLAN ID using the interface configuration command bridge multiple-port client-vlan vlan-id
    - Supported model is 1700I
    (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/ios/release/notes/rn-15-3-3.html)
Has anyone of you guys have some inside information about this new access-point? :-) My guess is that it is gonna be the successor for the 1600I, so the same price but 802.11ac and CleanAir Express (?)

yes. It looks like 8.0.100.0 code  introduced this new AP model support for AireOS controllers.
