Access Points report half duplex in CDP Neighbors

Hi
We are currently converting our AP's to light AP's - using a 5508 controller. I just noticed that when I check an AP, under Access Point Details, CDP Neighbors, it correctly reports the switch it's connected to, with the right port. But under "Duplex" it says Half Duplex?
It seems to do this for all AP's. I have checked both an 1121, 1131 and 1141. When I check the connected port on the switch it says Full Duplex.
Is this a display issue or something I should examine further?
Regards,
Kaj

Leo is correct. There is a bug that causes this. It will also eventually cause the controller to lock up. On a 2106 this happens much more often due to the lower amount of memory and processor power. TAC suggests that you hard code the switch to 100 meg full but I have seen that his has no real effect.

  • Access Points do not show in CDP neighbor

    Hi All,
Last night I was performing mainteance on access points throughout the network. I was converting them from Local to H-REAP to allow for vlan support. The maintenance went well however afterwards I've noticed access points are not showing up in CDP neighbor and with a "show power inline" the access points shows as a IEEE PD. This is causing some weird issues where a client can connect but then will lose it's DHCP address. The problem happened on 9 of the 12 floors that I did this on and there is no configuration differences and bouncing the access points did not resolve the issue. The access points do show a blue light.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? If so what did you do to fix it?
    I have a mix of 1131 and 1142N access points on a 4402 WLC running version 6.0.188.0.
    Thank you,
    Chris Pratt

The maintenance went well however afterwards I've noticed access points are not showing up in CDP neighbor and with a "show power inline" the access points shows as a IEEE PD.
    I see all the time.
"sh cdp neigh" shows nothing and "sh power inline" shows the port connected to the WAP as "IEEE".  This is mostly caused by faulty cabling.  If you have the right Cisco switch, you can test the cable using the in-built TDR feature.
    Here's how you do it:
    1.  Command:  test cable tdr interface
    2.  Wait for about 5 to 7 seconds;
    3.  Command:  sh cable tdr interface
    4.  Please post the complete output.

  • How can I get CDP neighbor information from access point reports in Cisco Prime 2.0

How can I get CDP neighbor information from access point reports in Cisco Prime 2.0?  I have looked through all the reports and I cannot find a report that gives me the CDP neighbor information of an access point.  I thought that information was in there, however I cannot seem to find it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
You can get this from an inventory report in PI (Select Report Type AP). Here is an example of PI 2.1 works for me. Once you export this into excel you can sort based on controllers & filter the single controller connected AP you want.

    Hello,
im searching for an option to make a Report on the WCS (Software Version 6.0.170.0 )  to see all SSIDs that are ratiated in detail by the Access Points.
I mean something like this: (example)
    AP 1   -  SSID 1 and SSID 2
    AP2   -   SSID 1
    AP3   -   SSID 3 and SSID2
Or is they any other alternativ to see that on the WCS or WLC?

  • WiFi Access Point hostname pass-through

So I've got a Watchguard firewall that controls ingress/egress of data to the network, and then Cisco Meraki access points connected to this network that offers both an isolated guest network, as well as secured access to the LAN.Anyone familiar with Watchguard knows they have this very useful tool called "Dimension" that is a virtual appliance that offers all kinds of useful logging and reports. One of the most useful is seeing the top domains visited, and top destinations of all of the clients on the network. My question is, the Dimension appliance is able to resolve most of the LAN ip addresses of clients to a hostname, the problem is that the Meraki APs present themselves to the Dimension appliance as just an IP address, and any clients connected to the access point, report on the Dimension appliance as the IP address of the AP.So...

  • Can you hard code the speed and duplex on lightweight access points

I have a client that want to set the spped and duplex on the switch port. Is there a way you can configure the fastethernet port on a lightweight access point for speed and duplex.

    Try this step
    configure terminal
    Enter global configuration mode.
    Step 2
    interface fastethernet0
    Enter configuration interface mode.
    Step 3
    speed {10 | 100 | auto}
Configure the Ethernet speed. Cisco recommends that you use auto, the default setting.
    Step 4
    duplex {auto | full | half}
Configure the duplex setting. Cisco recommends that you use auto, the default setting.
    Step 5
    end
    Return to privileged EXEC mode.
    Step 6
    show running-config
    Verify your entries.
    Step 7
    copy running-config startup-config

  • Report on Airport Utility when connecting Access Points to Airport Extreme

I have a plan to upgrade my Access Points for a better bandwidth of speed rate of wireless connection in my local connection.
There are the lasted model of Airport Extreme, and 2* Airport Express. Both of the Airport Express are connecting to Extreme by CAT5E.
The speed transfer will always be limited at 100Mbps, due to the limitation of Ethernet port in Airport Express.
The question is, if I replace Airport Express with other brands that support up to 600Mbps with USB support for printer, what would it be reported in Airport Utility.
Would I still be able to manage as an Acces Point through the Utility, and use it for printing server.

Mmmm, if you replace those expresses with 3'rd party routers, you may run into some issues there.

  • CDP on Access Points

    Hi
Using WISM with 7.0.220 and 1240 and 3502 APs.
Just found that some of our 3502 AP didn't enbale their clean air and CDP when installed.
This only happened on a few new APs.  But the area these APs where we seem to have had a few problems with PCs.
The only PCs effected where Computer On Wheels (COWs), Dell 780 Desktop with a Cisco Wireless Card.
Using an interl wireless card and others in thes areas worked.
Once I enabled the CDP and Clean Air, the COWs worked.
My question is with the APs not having CDP enabled, could this affect the cisco wirelss card in the COWs?
Its a long shot, but only thing that fits
    Cheers in advance
    Craig

One thing also is that you really shouldn't enable CleanAir if you have a mixed environment because the non 3500/3600's can't play nice with the CleanAir AP's. Now when you were testing, did you verify that the COWs were still in the correct SSID and verified that you see the client probing on that SSID from the wlc? CDP being enabled or disabled shouldn't have any affect on connection, but the Cisco cards are pretty old and I can see that you might have some that are getting bad. The Cisco cards are also known for being sticky... They will try to stay connected to an access point even if you have lower data rates disabled. It was a big issue in some of my installs and troubleshooting COWs back in the days. You are probably better off finding a replacement card maybe that supports 802.11n since you are rolling out 3500 APs.

  • PC54G Access Point half working

My ADSL Internet connection comes through the modem to a switch then to a desktop pc via lan which is also fitted with a PC54G wireless card. I have 2 laptops with 801.11g wireless cards, I can get a normal network, email and I can ping the modem from them and that is all. I cant ping the outside world or receive the Net, MSN messenger, ICQ etc. I have tried a few configurations without success.
What should I use, Access Point or Gateway?? Should I have bridged connections, if so which ones?? Anything else that might help

I think you must use a ACCESS Point
and you must enable DHCP client on your HOST PC

  • Access Points resetting

Has anyone seen this problem before.
Access points 1142 controller 5508 running code 6.0.196.0
When you set the access point port speed with "config ap duplex full speed 1000 all" the access points leave the controlle and do not rejoin. I have had to reset the the access points manually with a power down and hold the reset button.
I cannot find a bug report for this.

    Surendra
It could be that bug however the bug report specifically mentions autonomous aps, so what would happen is the ap is ok set with 1000 full but the switch just doesn't think its there?
    zhenningx
The client wants speed and duplex set, also if the command it available it certainly should not break something, equally auto auto is alot better than it used to be however is far from reliable, what if the switch/ap port combination decides to set itself at 10 half using auto auto? OK it hasnt but what if it did thats obviously possible aand not good.
Its simply a case of yes there is a work around but with the client spending an awful lot of money he wants it to work how he wants it to work.
If you bought a car for £50K and you couldnt get your favourite radio station on the radio because of a bug would you be happy? No. At the end of the day I accept that there are bugs etc but saying just leave it like this is not really aceptable as we have an expectation as client that things should work as described.
I do not want to be negative but there is a lot wrong in the 6.x code that really shouldnt be and its basics like not being able to set speed and duplex, the issues with Vocera etc and saying just use auto auto is not good enough for me as an engineer. First does Csco know about it, second is there a fix, third is it something I have done.
Now lets assume this was a hospital where there were 1000 access points in ceilings and they all went off the network, that would be catastrophic. Having to find and reset 1000 access points in a hospital. I actually read the release notes for specific code trains I use and this is not in the list of bugs in 6.0.196.0

  • Single access point with multiple ssids and single channel possible?

    Hi everybody.
    I have this silly question.
Let say we have three vlans, vlan1,2,3  and they are mapped to wlans as follows:
    Vlan 1  ssid1
    Vlan 2 ssid2
    Vlan3 ssid 3
                      AP --------trunk------Switchted network.
Our Ap  has mobile devices in three wlans, i.e ssid1ssid2 and ssid3
Since AP uses half duplex mode,  mobile devices need positive ack from ap  before they can send data,  therefore once channel let say channel 3( assuming 802.11b is used) can be shared by all mobile devices in three wlans.
    Is  my understanding correct?
Thanks and have a great weekend.

    Hii ,
Yes ,that is pretty much possible as suggested by other experts on board. Depending on your access point you will have 1 (2.4 GHz) or  both 2.4 & 5GHz radios.
You can configure multiple SSIDs (up to 16 ) known as MBSSID mode in autonomous environment. In Controller based architecture you can configure up to 512 WLAN (SSID) and transmit any 16 of them per AP (using AP group feature). However , it is recommended to keep multiple SSID count below 8 as for each SSID separate beacon will be sent on air which consumes more air time.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Access Point(s) - AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 and others - Spotty Connectivity ...

    Hello,
We have eighteen Cisco Aironet wireless access points (most of them are AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 with 12.3(2)JA2 IOS loaded) across our campus which people have weird issues with connecting.
Everywhere, people can associate and get an IP address without any issues. However, they cannot maintain a reliable connection to systems either on our network or off. They will get a web page to load and then it drops them out. In addition, they cannot connect back again for random intervals of time. To make this even more bizarre is that for random intervals they maintain a solid connection until it kicks people out again.
The vlan itself (60 in the configuration file below) works without issue as we have devices plugged in directly to the vlan via a hardwired port and they are stable.
Below is the configuration file. Any reason why we would have this issue?
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Christopher,
Couple of suggestions before moving forward:
    1. I would first secure these WLANs with a least a pre-shared key if possible(WPA/WPA2).  Let me know if you need information on how to do this.
    2. Next, I would remove the 'short-slot-time' on the radio:
    config terminal
    interface do0
    no short-slot-time
    end
If your users continue to have issues, I would want more information on the types of clients in the environment as well as wireless adapter make/model/driver version.

  • Access Point - AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 - PCs can connect but Apple Macs Cannot ...

    Hello,
This is a sort of follow up to a post I made a few days ago. I made changes to my access points and on Windows computers everything works but on Apple products (Macs, iPads, iPhones) the strangest things happen.
(1). About 90% of the time nothing works in that we get NO connection to the Access Point. In the client association logs we see the Mac Address show up but there is a 0.0.0 address where it seems like the device is trying to get an DHCP lease. After a while, the device gets the IPPA address of 169.X.X.X.
    (2) After a extended period of time (an hour or more) the Apple device eventually gets an IP address from the network and then is able to successfully connect to the network. However, the connection is short lived and drops after about 30 minutes to an hour.
Is there a problem with the way Apple products encapsulates their network traffic versus Windows or other products?
Again, this not affect any Windows or Andriod based devices (laptops, phones, etc.) They can connect right away and never drop out.
Below is the configuration file for the AP in question, although this is affecting all of our APs:

  • How to know the assigned IP address on Access Point

Hi, we have several cisco access points model here in our office, one of which is currently unused and I would like to know how to view the assigned IP Address and login information without resetting the device.
Cisco AP: Cisco Small Business Pro AP541N
Someone teach before on how to do it but it was long time ago and I already forgot the procedure.
Hoping someone can guide me through on how to do it.
    Best regards,
    Duane

    Hello Duane,
How to determine ip address of APs:
Login to the switch where the APs are connected and enter the following command.
    show cdp neighbor detail.
As long as CDP is enabled, this will display all directly connected Cisco devices, which will include the ip addresses of each device.
    Login info:
You can try the default login user id: cisco and password:cisco.
    Hope this helps.

If it has "k9w8" then it is lightweight.
