Access points

Hello
At my workplace we have this printer, HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276n. And it has been connected to the wireless network since we bought it, until today.
The direct feedback from the printer is that the "WEP password was not recogniced". The network has a wpa2 encryption, and if that is a problem I don't know how it worked in the first place.
While trying to lookup what up (yea....), I print out the wireless report. It says that the network it's trying to connect to has multiple access points.
The network has a wpa2 encryption, and if that is a problem I don't know how it worked in the first place. We do have two different networks, but while looking for it from the printer I't cant find it.
All other devices workes, but alas not this printer.

  • Unable to stop the event logs on access point console

    Hi team,
I have an AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 access point having ios c1130-k9w8-mx.124-21a.JHB1.
When I am trying to take the console of it there are many logs generated like LWAPP ...Go join the controller, Discover controller etc. and the ap is unable to register to the controller(2112 with ios version 6.0.199.4). I'm trying to enter the command but there are many event msg generated....How do i stop this event log. I tried entering the command no debug all. but still there are many logs...
I want to enter the the following commands
    #lwapp ap  ip address <ip addr>.
    #lwapp a pip default-gateway <gateway ip addr>
    #lwapp ap controller ip addr <controller ip>
    #wr me
Revert me back on urgent basis
    Thanks in advance..

    Thanks Rashika,
Now the access point got registered to the controller..This happened becuse of country Code..
I have changed the country code to UK, Belgium it started working fine.
Initially when it was IN the access point was not getting register..
But now the problem which arised is that the user is unable to get authenticated to the radius server.
Radius server is reachable and we have done every changes required for radius server authentication.
    Users are getting rejected.
Customer is saying that the radius server is in IN domain and the WLC/access point is in UK,BE and hence the users are unable to connect..
    Is it so??

  • How do I make my AirPort Extreme a access point?

I just bought a Time Capsule and now I want to extend my range of my network.  How do I make my AE an access point?

In this case, you will want to configure both base stations in an extended network.
Dynamic WDS - Extending a Wireless Network Setup
If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
Open AirPort Utility, and then, select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless.
Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
Enter the base station network and base station password if necessary.
Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • How do I configure my AirPort Extreme as a wireless access point?  My cable modem goes to a router, and one of those ports goes to my AirPortExtreme.

I am about to hook up my airport extreme.  My cable modem goes into a router, and one of those ports will supply my airport extreme.  I was told by the Apple Store that I would need to configure my airport extreme as a wirreless access point.  How do I do this?

With sbcgobal I got a Gateway 2wire modem. What I would like to know is how do I set up my APE as remote?
Unfortunately, you won't be able to do this as few non-AirPort routers will work with AirPorts in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

  • Can't HP Officejet pro 8100 do wifi access point?

Yesterday my HP Officejet pro 8100 arrived and I try to connect via wifi. I thinked that It need a infrastructure access point to print via wifi.
When I powered on the printer I osserved that It create an access point autonomously with SSID: HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro, with IPv4 address server, etc...
I was very happy and I printed a page with my smartphone samsung s4 connected directly with printer access point (not wifi direct but standard wifi).
Today no changed occurred but I can't use printer with its own access point, but only with an external wifi access point.
Someone can help me, please? It could be an hardware problem?
    Thanks,
    Luca
P.S. in web server I checked that "access point connectivity" (Punto di accesso wireless connettività in Italian) is checked.
    This question was solved.

    Hello lucait
To print via WiFi you need to have a wireless router setup. Once you have the wireless router setup correctly you will have a SSID and Wepkey that will enable you to add devices to your network. The network will allow all your devices to communicate not just with each other but with the internet. At the moment your printer was not put in a network so instead of broadcasting on a network it is broadcasting on it's own network called HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro which is only good for a short period of time to allow you to setup your wireless. I am going to assume you have a wireless network and you are just needing assistance getting the printer setup on that network.
To set your printer up on a network you will need to reset your network defaults so your printer begins to broadcast that HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro network again. You can do this buy following the steps on the HP Support document Resetting the Network Settings. Once you have done this you can begin to install the software that came with your printer on your computer. You want to set the printer up wirelessly when the option arrives. The software should configure your printers wireless for you and put it on the network. Once completed you should be able to access your printer from all your devices as long as they are on the network.
I hope this helps resolve your wireless issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Setting up a netgear n300 as wireless bridge/access point with airport extremee

I just replaced my netgear wireless router with the airport to allow our many devices on the network without knocking each other off and also increase the speed.  But would like to use the netgear as a wireless bridge or access point so that I can still connect my NTFS formatted hard drive to be shared on the network.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I can not seem to find my netgear router with 192.168.1.1 as that comes up with another device.  I have tried doing this with a windows laptop in another room but can not seem to make it work.  I am now hooked up directly to the airport thinking i need to do it that way and still no luck. Please help.

As long as you intend to do this over ethernet it will work.. you cannot easily wireless repeat or bridge to an apple router.. you would need specific hardware to do it.
What is the exact model of netgear you have?
The setup method depends on the functionality of the router.. but lets assume it does not have a bridge or WAP mode.
    You use WAN bypass.
    1. Setup the Netgear with IP address in the correct IP range for the rest of the network.. it is hard to talk generalities so lets say the apple is main router and your network is now 10.0.1.x .. then set the Netgear to 10.0.1.250 (apple uses IP 2-200 by default) you can use any value you like outside the DHCP range. Up to the limit which is 254 as long as you keep track of all static IP devices. Apply this setting and power cycle the router.. and you might need to power cycle the computer as well to pick up the new IP.
    2. Turn off the DHCP server in the Netgear. You may lose connection to the netgear now.. do not worry about it.. (this can be combined with one.. if you firstly turn off dhcp before you change the IP.. but whatever is possible.. at some point you will need to change around and if you forget what IP .. you will be in a mess.. so write it on a label and stick on the base of the router.. also without dhcp you will either need to reset router to factory using reset button or use static ip on the computer. )
    3. Plug ethernet from LAN of the main router to LAN of the Netgear. Reboot the whole network is often necessary.
    4. In your computer plugged somewhere in the network.. open browser and go to the address you set.. 10.0.1.250 in my example.
    5. You can then setup the Netgear to do whatever you like.. DIsk access is fine.. wireless is fine.. it just cannot be a router.
Many many reboots if you get lost. Hit reset and start over.

  • New wireless network with several access points

    Hi,
We are planing to deploy a wireless network that will cover two floors consisting of about 5 or 6 Access points. It should have 2 or 3 SSID (placing the clients in 2 or 3 different VLANS).
What would be the best solution for this?
I read a lot about wireless controllers. What about an option to just buy standalone access points? Are they all configured to work with the same SSID's and on the same channel?

A centralized controller should make your life easier:
    - Centralized config - set up everything on the controller and it gets applied to the AP's.
    - Centralized monitoring - when someone has a problem, you can check the controller instead of having to figure out the AP to which they are connecting (computers don't always connect to the closest AP)
    - Dumb AP's - if someone steals one of your APs, they will not be able to learn much about your network from a lightweight AP
    - Radio Resource Management - let the controller make the channel and power setting decisions for you
    - If you use PoE, you may never have to get on a ladder and use the console port of a lightweight AP. The AP is managed by the controller, and for the rare occasion that you can't get an AP to respond - just cycle the power to the AP via the switch port.
    There are some downsides:
    - Cost of the controller (since you're buying AP's one way or the other)
    - Most cost: If your wireless network is important, then you typically want a second wireless controller as a backup
    - Probably more downsides, but my brain hurts today

  • When using EA6400 as an access point only, certain features lost

I've set up my EA6400 and have it connected to my Verizon MW424WR(Gigabit) and it works fine as an access point and the Twonky Server uses the USB drive I have attached to the router's USB port. Problems:
1)I can not use the linksyssmartwifi link for management, I have to use the IP(set for 192.168.1.50) for this. When trying to register/login, the Linksys end is trying to find a Linksys router but can not and will not allow any action.
2)Although Twonky will use the attached HD, I can not share the device over the home (Windows) network. I've tried various incantations of the IP \\192.168.1.50\(whatever share name I can think of) with no avail.
3)Using the Linksys admin, the Device List is incomplete. Devices connected wirelessly  such as my iPod, Roku, Sony Media Player and WD HD TV Live do not show as wirelessly connected and do not have an IP listed.
4)Is there any point in using the Media Prioritization settings since no routing is done by an access point. Or will it actually prioritize the wireless connection.
BTW, the Verizon router can not be set in bridge mode so I have to use the router as an access point to accomplish what I wish.
    TIA,
    Randy

Some applications and router features require the use of the WAN port. If the router is set up for LAN to LAN AP mode only, then those features won't work in this mode. Only Router mode.
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Then connect the router in router mode using the WAN port to the ISP modem, then features and apps should work.

  • An Error Occurred while trying to join "my wireless access point"

    Hi,
I've been using wireless access for a year and never had a problem connecting.
But starting yesterday I get a +*An Error Occurred while trying to join "my wireless access point", Please try again.+* Message.
I have 2 Mac's and have no problem connecting with the other one. It’s just the IMac.
I tried everything including resetting router, changing password, adding a $ to the password, accessing without password, deleting the whole air port and create a new one, but still getting the same message.
I might need to add, while I was working with the IMac I didn’t use wireless for a few hours, but when I got back to my browser I noticed that I was connected to a different wireless service. (FONFREEINTERNET if it matters) I have no idea why, since I didn’t change it.
Anyways, I tried to switch back to my access point, but it wouldn’t let me. It’ll just give me the +*An Error Occurred while trying to join "my wireless access point", Please try again.+* Message.
Funny is when I use the FONFREEINTERNET access point the internet seems to work fine.
I could look up Google without a problem, but when I tried to connect to Facebook for example it won’t let me. Instead a FONFREEINTERNET page will pop up with some options on how to pay! (by minute/or day/or week…)
I get the strange feeling that they planted some kind of bug/virus!!!
I don’t know what else to do.
Anyone knows that problem? What can I do?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    I researched on FONFREEINTERNET, there’s a spot close to my house/guess that’s the one I used…
http://maps.fon.com/ ZIP CODE 904-0113 and you’ll see a coffee pod, which is about 2 minutes walk from my house.

    Hello Tesserax,
I get the same error message again...
I tried the 3 suggested steps again, but unfortunately it did not work.
After a Restart, Sleep or just the awaking from Screensaver mode I’m disconnected from my wireless Network anymore.
Even if the Computer was asleep for just a second!
I am able to fix the problem temporarily with Network Preferences → Assist me → Diagnostics
Choose Airport → Choose network → Enter Password (Even if I check safe password it’ll ask me every time) → and than usually all lights on the left menu switch from red to green and I get the popup message “A Network Change has been detected. Your Internet seems to work fine.” (similar - I’m at work and don’t remember exactly)
And it works fine…until the screensaver comes on or it sleeps again
I have the Problem with my IMac and Mini but the IMac at least remembers my password…
    Any Ideas

  • How to use Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router(access point...

Hi guys hope you can help; I am trying to add my Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router (ie an access point) to my home network and struggling.
What am I trying to achieve.
I have a fully functioning home network which is working great but the wireless range does not extend to the room above my garage, some distance away from the main house. I currently service it with an Ethernet link from my E4200 router, via the mains wiring, to link to a PS3 there. But I want to extend this to have a wireless network in the remote room so I can link multiple devices - rather than spend more money, deploying a 2nd router which I already have  is preferable.
    What have I got.
I have a Linksys E4200 router (nice piece of kit) attached to my ADSL line via a Belkin N1 wireless modem-router set to  “modem only” mode (I was using a DSL modem until yesterday but that went AWOL and digging out the Belkin router I saw that it had a modem only function – and it/they worked first time )
All of my gear in the house is attached wirelessly to the E4200 which is delivering circa 11.5mbps from a maximum of 12.5mbps for the line measured by BT onsite. So  all is  fine there.
What have I done to try and use the HH3
Linked an Ethernet cable between one of the Ethernet ports on the E4200 to a mains plug.
Linked an Ethernet cable from a mains plug to one of the Ethernet ports on the HH3 router.
Ie as the PS3 was linked.
    3.  Switched on the HH3 router: the power light is solid blue, the wireless light is solid blue, the broadband light is off
    4. Connected my laptop to the HH3 network and loading up a web page on IE9 displays a web page from bthomehub.home/etc etc with title BT Home Hub and a message “Can’t connect to Broadband”. It is the start of a self- diagnostic routine. Answering all the questions I eventually get a Home Hub Administrative Home Page displayed.
Is there a quicker way of getting to this admin page??
    5.  I switched off DHCP
I changed the IP address from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.1.200 as this seems to be what the other threads on this subject did.
When I went to apply the change a message came up telling me that I might not be able to access the HH3. I ploughed on disregarding this and needless to say I could not then access the HH3 via the web interface and trying to access a web site nothing happened.
    6.  I did a hardware reset on the HH3
    7. Going through the motions again, when I got to the admin pages again, I switched off DHCP and this time left the IP address alone, ie 192.168.1.254.
When I went to apply this  I got the message
“After changing these settings you will need to renew the IP address of all devices connecting to your BT Home Hub. Please follow the instructions provided with your devices.”
I applied the change – but have not yet done any fooling around with IP addresses on my laptop because I don’t want to start mucking around with my laptop
I then tried to access a website, and failed, but on this occasion rather than nothing happening, the Home Hub website came up  again displaying the error message page.
And that is where I stand. All looks so easy when reading other threads on this and other forums but it is not working for me.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
The IP settings on the E4200 are
    IP  192.168.1.1
    Range  192.168.1.100  to 192.168.1.149
Also connection type on the E4200 is POE not POA – as far as I  recall that is what it needed to be to connect to the DSL modem and work.

    Thanks for the speedy reply!
I have actually came across this page before - I seem to hit a snag when I connect the repeater hub (my HH3).  As outlined, I have at all times kept the repeater hub connected via ehternet into one of the regular LAN ports to my main HH5.
But when I connect my laptop to the repeat hub (HH3), I am actually connected to the internet somehow (I assuem using the HH5 network) but under my network connections it says I am connected to the HH3.  As a result, when I go to the homehub settings page 192.168.1.254, it brings me to the main HH5 settings page and not the repeater HH3.
According to the instructions it says I should "Ignore the not connected page", but I am connected and I cant seem to alter any of the settings on my HH3 while it is connected to the HH5.
    Any other pointers?
    Thanks!

  • What is the WPS button on my access point?  I am trying to setup wirelessly with a canon MX892 printer

Printer setup instructions say to press the WPS  button on the access point (my 4th gen Time Capsule).  Does that mean hit reset and will I have to setup every other device again by doing that?

No, do not hit reset .. it is not a WPS button.
Apple products do not use WPS, so no WPS button is needed. And they have no need to implement one.. nothing exists outside the Apple bubble.. didn't you know that??
Read the forum expert Tesserax instructions for using WPS. https://discussions.apple.com/message/16034147#16034147
But it is better to plug in your printer to a mac by usb and use the disk provided to do a full manual setup of wireless.. WPS is simply the easy way.

  • Can a single Access Point support both bridge mode and Access Point mode at the same time

    Hi Guys
Does anyone know which access point can work in both bridge mode and AP mode ?
    Cheers

Well what are you trying to cover. If its really a large outdoor area, then look at the mesh AP. Those require a WLC. Autonomous or stand alone ap can perform bridging on one radio and client access on another. You can also look at AP that support indoor mesh that also controlled by a wlc. If your putting APs outdoors, then look at the outdoor mesh.
    Thanks,

  • Prompt never appears in a 2602i access point

    Hello:
Today I converted an AIR-CAP2602I-A-K9 access point to autonomous using the mode button/tftp method, but no matter what IOS I install (I tried 2 different IOS and also tried entering to Rommon - I am able to change IOS because the procedure I used does not need any command), i never get to see the prompt so that I can introduce commands to configure the AP. It's like it hangs after "succesfully" initializing
The only thing I can see all the time are "normal" console messages, and It shows no error message at all.  It happened even before the downgrade.
This is where the AP stops, but it is not really hung because console messages could keep showing up. It just never gets to the promt so I can enter some commands. Would not even acept Enter.

    Any thoughts?
Best regards and thanks in advance

Leo, I'm usign SecureCrt, so I disabled XON/XOFF and DTR/DSR as usual, but was not disabling RTS/CTS, so I did and now it is working. Thank you very much!

  • Apple TV 2G (Airplay and Homesharing) can only stream from devices on the same wireless access point range??

    connection:
40 Mbps Fiber Broadband connection using:
    Devices:
    1. Main Modem/router (AP1): Huawei HG8245 (provided by ISP) - Wireless enabled.
    2. Remote Access point (AP2): Linksys/Cisco E3200 Wireless gigabyte router flashed with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/14/11) mini (Cascaded -wired- LAN to LAN from main modem).
    3. Wireless Repeater to cover a dead spot  (AP3): Linksys/Cisco E1000 wireless repeater.
    4. Apple Tv (AT2G) with home sharing/airplay enabled.
5.( Ipad) with home sharing on itunes enabled.
    6. Win7 (PC) using iTunes with Home sharing enabled.
all devices are updated to their latest firmware.
In order to cover a large 3 story house with Wifi. I had (AP1) is located on the first floor, while (AP2) is located in the basement floor directly wired by LAN to LAN with (AP1). (AP3) is located on the Ground floor away from the living room to repeat wireless network into the back yard. While (AT2G) is located in the living room on the ground floor right in the middle of both (AP1) + (AP2) while connected via Wifi.
Network SSID, security, passphrase and wireless settings of (AP2) are identical to (AP1) to create a single big LAN/WLAN roaming network where all devices connected to both wireless access points can find/share the others. As understood, it's refered to as bridging.
I have noticed that my iphone/ipad does not show the airplay button anywhere within the wireless network. it seems that the apple TV randomly choses to connect to the AP with stronger signal, or switch to the other in case of a reboot to one of them.
to elaborate further, if i was sitting in the living room (groundfloor), trying to airplay some you tube contents via Wifi to my Apple TV, i may not find the airplay button available all the time, i found out the reason is while i'm wirelessly connected to AP1, the Apple TV was connected to AP2 and both deviced cannot detect each others to enable my purpose. that goes the same for Home Sharing. only if my Ipad/PC and Apple Tv are on the same wireless AP. they would detect each others immediately.
although, the second AP (AP2) is suppose to extend my wireless network of the same subnet in which any device connected can be found.
After all sorts of trial and error tweaking my router/access point, I thought the problem would be due to the Linksys 3200 capability of bridging WLAN and lacks few protocols that enables my purpose. i have flashed the firmware to a DD-WRT, but again, problem was not solved.
I have not tried having my Apple Tv wired to either router/AP, but i assume it may work well if i do so. i still need to solve this wireless connection issue though.
Am i the only one with this problem, would there be something wrong with my setup?
    Your feedback is highly appreciated.

You may or may not already have your network set up correctly, it's just that I can't tell from what you have said.
I have a main router provided by my ISP, I have several other Airport Extremes and Airport expresses connected by Ethernet, all set up to bridge the network created by the main router.
Each maker has their own settings, but bridging should be reasonably obvious. In simple terms my main router distributes IP addresses to all devices, the Airports bridge that network by passing these addresses to the devices from the main router. A base station that isn't in bridging mode will distribute its own addresses to the devices connected to it.
I don't really follow your next point.
instruction for configuration vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, the best course of action here is to refer to the manual. If everything is set up properly the addresses of everything on your network will have identical sets of numbers for the first 3 of 4 groups of numbers that make up an address, the last set must always be different. I think the part you are referring to with your DD-WRT is the option to have Ethernet and wifi bridged or not.
Some routers may be easier to configure than others, but generally speaking they should all work with the Apple TV. 5Ghz is less likely to suffer interference but it is much more likely to be blocked by solid objects, it may or may not be an advantage.

  • How do I use Airport Extreme to create wired access point on wireless network?

Bit of an odd situation. I just went from cable to DSL at home and the modem moved from right by my computer to upstairs.
Trouble is, there's no real easy way to get a cable from the modem upstairs to my X-box (sans wireless connector) downstairs.
I could buy the wireless adaptor for the X-Box, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend any more money.
I have my airport extreme, and I was hoping I could use it to create a wired access point on the network, recieving the signal from the wireless modem upstairs and allowing me to plug in the X-Box.
Is this possible? If so, how? I've been through the config panel about a dozen times, but can't figure out what combination to set up.
    Thanks.

Will it work if I use the express to create the network?
Yes, providing that you have an 802.11n version of the AirPort Express and the Express has been configured to "Allow this network to be extended".
Then, the AirPort Extreme can be configured to "extend" the Express network. When you do this, the AirPort Extreme will provide more wireless coverage and the LAN Ethernet ports are enabled, so you can connect an Ethernet device.
This will not be a "normal" Ethernet connection. It will only work as well as the wireless "hop" between the Express and Extreme allow.
For best results and performance, a wired connection through the hole in the wall is always best. If you decide to do this, you will need the "new" AirPort Express with both a WAN and LAN port on the device. But, you could try wireless first to see if it will meet your goals before you reach for the tools.

  • How do i get AE to work as well as old d-link access point

i have a d-link DSL-604+ which is great - works for broadband acts as a hub and provides wireless at one end of my long thin house. my main mac is plugged into it and works great. i ran some time ago a cat5e cable under the floor boards when we moved in to the other end where the wireless doesnt reach (just) and there i had a d-link dwl-900ap+ connected by the wire to the main router. it was setup with the same ssid and a different channel. my windows work laptop - depending on which end of the house i was would pick up the ssid and connect to the stronger signal no problems i could even walk up and down and it would switch over. now they are both b only and i have recently bought a new airport express with the plan of using airtunes upgrading speed of link and eventually changing my laptop to a mac. now on the old system my router would act as DHCP giving a 192.168 address. i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do? however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd - if i then move the laptop constantly tries connecting to both APs and changes its ip address. if i tell the AE to use 192.168 it says this conflicts with a wan setting. is there a way of saying get dhcp from elsewhere?
i am sure this is really straightforward and i am missing something. the dlink was easy i told it it was an access point - my network was called xxx and that the network had dhcp and it just worked.
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly? i ran a cable.
    thanks

i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do?
Yes you will manually need to enter the SSID.
however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd
You also need to configure the AirPort Express (AX) to bridge (not share a single IP address).
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly?
You should be using the "create a network" option.
