Access Privileges error, cannot save library

I have had my iPod for 4+ years but after upgrading software about a year ago, I repeatedly get the error "Cannot save Library. You do not have enough access privileges." I have followed recommendations in previous threads to unmark the read-only button but to no avail. Very frustrating. Please help before I switch to a Zune.

WHen are you seeing this error, when you try to close itunes?
Can you rename that file? Because if you can't, the operating system is confused and thinks something has a lock on it. Restarting your PC should clear that situation.

Hello everybody,
I recently changed from windows 7 pc to windows 8 pc and I have installed the most recent version of iTunes (11.0.4.4). However, when ever I start up iTunes I get an error message that iTunes can't save library; unknow error -50. I googled on the internet for solutions. The most solutions were from years ago and not specific for windows 7. So until know nothing solved my problem. I cant imagine that I am the only one having this problem. Therefore I kinda was hoping that one of you fellow iTunes enthousiatic users has or had the same problem and can help me solving it.
Before you all redirect me to another similar threat on this forum; I have seen it and I have readt it. And I tried the suggestions. And they didn't work. And I noticed that all the answers and suggestion were for Mac OS users. I use Windows 8 ! So I was hoping that someone could suggest solutions for Windows 8 users.

Error message (-48) cannot save library

I have the library saved on a network drive and it was working fine until I just started getting the error message "cannot save library error (-48). But the library is still there and it appears that new songs/pods are being saved. Any idea what this error message is? Thanks

Keep getting Cannot save library file error -50 message on my PC

Same issue here. Running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and newest version of iTunes. Normally happens when I am ripping a CD into iTunes and by chance multi task or the screen saver kicks in.
What ***** is if you walk away while ripping a CD(because it takes 3 times as long in iTunes vs any other ripper), and it will halt your ripping until you click "ok". I have not tried the "dont tell me again" check box just in case it is a problem I need to know about. This happened about 2 or 3 days after upgrading to Vista and I got an empty library the next time I opened the library. Somehow it got corrupted. Luckily I back up the xml file and just restored that one file from last back up.
(off subject but also getting the maxed our processor still in the newest version for Windows Vista. Wish they would fix that!)

i am running TestTVXlet on the Fedora Core 3.
I do set the path variable, but it still shows the "JMFSecurity Error: Cannot Load Library jmam" message.
Is the problem that jmam.dll is not suitable for linux?
Any advise will be appreciated. : )

10g Forms Builder with error "cannot attach library" opening R12 fmb file

Hi all,
I had set up my Forms Builder with all the necessary PLL and FMB files for developing R12 custom forms. I have used the builder to do few custom PLLs and one custom form, and I did not have any problem opening seeded Oracle Forms. Today when I need to enhance that custom form I did 2 weeks ago and I opened Forms Builder, I got the error "Cannot attach library.." for APPCORE, APPDAYPK, etc.. Same error for opening TEMPLATE.fmb.
I have done these to troubleshoot:
1) I verified my Windows XP registry "FORMS_PATH" to include the folder where I store all the PLLs and FMBs.
2) I updated default.env to include that file path.
3) I create shortcut to Forms Builder and put folder path with PLLs under the "Start in" field of the shortcut.
4) I rebooted my machine after changing the registry
5) I moved the folder with PLLs to under C:; I seperate PLL to "resource" sub-folder and FMB to forms/US/ sub-folder just like the server structure.
6) I install one more copy of Developer 10G Suite and set up the registry.
None of these work and the key is it used to work with no issue. Any suggestions what may be the problems?

Turned out I reloaded all the $AU_TOP forms and PLLs to my desktop and it worked fine. I think I did not FTP correctly the first time.

ITunes "cannot save library file" error in Vista

I just began ripping my latest pile of cd's into iTunes on my new Vista Media Center PC. Occasionally I get the popup "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for thei operation" I checked and double checked the security on all of the iTunes files and folders, and not only do I (the system administrator), but also SYSTEM and Everyone have full access to the folder and files. My library is in C:\Users\Jerry\Music\iTunes\ , which is the default installation directory selected by iTunes. I have almost 11,000 songs, and I have already completely rebuilt the library in this version of iTunes as a means to try to resolve this problem. I am on iTunes 7.2.0.16 , everything on the PC is up to date, and I see nothing that makes this error seem correct. Has anyone else seen this, and do you have a fix? Give us a bit more details. When is this happening? What were you trying to do. Be as detailed as humanly possible. Maybe even take a screenshot.

ITunes Error (-50) (cannot save library)

I just updated to the newest version of iTunes (7.2.0.35) using the apple downloader/installer and I lost my library and all my playlists. I now get an error "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)." Any fixes? I reinstalled iTunes manually and it didn't solve the issue.

Cannot save library

Hi,
When downloading new cd's etc I get an error message saying that the itunes library cannot be saved as there are insufficient access privileges. How do I fix this please?

Are you sure you are using windows XP?
c:\users... doesn't look like the way XP arranges user folders.
If so, did you create that folder specially, possibly from another account?
Next could you try a quick check, can you use Get Info to alter information about your tracks or is it grayed out?

"Access Privilege" error... how I fixed it

After I installed iTunes I was asked if I wanted to set it as my default player. When I checked 'yes' it said something about my not having access privilege. I uninstalled iTunes AND Quick Time Player. I then rebooted and reinstalled Quick Time and iTunes. Then I started Quick Time Player first and iTunes afterward. This solved the problem.
There is a method to my madness, but if you're not a geek like me it doesn't matter why I did things in that order.
If you are a geek like me, you should know this is not a problem with shared folders or administrator accts; although that might also give the same error (and is, naturally, the first drawn conclusion when you read the error... It is the error Macs give when admin acct should be used and is not, I believe). What can I say? It's Apple.

Access Privileges Errors

After renting a movie via iTunes I receive the following error:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
The movie downloaded, and this message appeared when trying to process the file. I have
tried downloading it twice and I get the same message every time.
I do share my library under the /users/shared and I have checked that access privileges are set to read/write for everyone. Apple didn't seem to be able to help after contacting the iTunes Store support.
Any ideas why I wouldn't have access privileges after renting a movie?

Had the same problem when trying to download a game for Nano 4. This library is also shared - seems all folder permissions are correct - first time with this problem.
Error message is slightly different - It does say "not enough access privileges" but then goes on to say "check network connection" - I'm assuming it means internet connection to iTunes Store - it's running fine. Downloaded a bunch of music with no problem.
Also should say - this machine has parental controls enabled.
Anyone have a clue?

ITunes cannot save library

Ive just moved my itunes library to another disk and it all seems to be working fine..... but for some reason I keep getting 'cannot save itunes library error'
I moved the library from <user>/music/itunes to /media/itunes (media is the new disk), and i did this by change the library address to the new location in the preferences and then consolidating the library.... before the actual music was organised in <user>/music/itunes/itunes music and after consolidating it put the music in /media/itunes, so im guessing that itunes is unable to write the database files into the correct location.....
How can i get the database files to write without risking losing my library?

Hi, I have read and write permissions on the newly installed disk and read and write permissions in the folder the music is in....
The verify and repair permissions buttons are greyed out in disk utility..... could this be to do with the formatting? its formatted as mac os extended (journaled).

I tried restoring the DataSource from my ECC system and the error I received was:

I clicked on the ? mark and recieved this following information

Access privileges error message-help

I have a cd-rw that I want to use and i'm not sure what's on it. I was going to see what is on it and erase it so I could use it to back up a few folders. When I insert the cd I get the message:
"The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges."
I am the only user on my computer and there are no other accounts. Can anyone tell me why I am getting this message and how do I remedy this problem so I can use the cd? Thanks.

If the CD-RW is owned by someone else that has set the permissions to no access by others, then it doesn't matter if you are an admin or not - you don't have permission, so it won't even mount. If you were the one that burned the CD-RW, you should be able to mount it from the account you created it from.
Permissions of hard dives can be changed from the Terminal, but I don't know about CD/DVD media - and repairing permissions is not a magic cure-all, it only applies to applications that have receipts in the /Library/Receipts folder.
