Access Property List Files

Hi,
I created a new property list in one of my applications and named it zap.plist. I added the property item "isFirtsLaunched" and set it's "String" to "no". I am wanting the application to do something on the first run only. My code currently looks like this:
on launched theApplication
tell (path for resource "zap" extension "plist")
if list item "isFirstLaunched" = no then
display dialog "NO"
else
display alert "YES"
end if
end tell
end launched
When I run the application, it returns this error (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/secrect_2008/Warning.png)
I NEED to release the application before the 21st of July, can anyone tell me how to access the information? I have been searching for hours with Google and on the ADC.

Hummm.
I am trying
on launched theApplication
(*do shell script "defaults read path/to/file isFirstLaunched"*)
display dialog quoted form of POSIX path of (path to "zap.plist")
end launched
as well as
on launched theApplication
(*do shell script "defaults read path/to/file isFirstLaunched"*)
display dialog quoted form of POSIX path of "zap" of (path to me)
end launched
(The {(*do shell script "defaults read path/to/file isFirstLaunched"*)} is a comment because I am not using it right now).
I am absolutely stuck. I feel really bad about this...

  • Opened an Apple binary property list file with Texteditor

    Hello,
i made the mistake opening an Apple binary property list file with Texteditor made a change and save it, now the file is corrupted. I should have used bbedit or textwrangler in stead but thats to late now.
Is there a way to convert the file back to the previous state?
when i open a similar file in textWrangler i get a xml file, when i open the other one textwrangler / bbedit gives the error "An unexpected I/O error occurred (MacOS Error code: -36)"
i have undone the changes i made in Texteditor and saved it again, no result. I have no backup.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Marco

Recovering an edited file which has been saved is in general (so long as no backup is generated) as difficult as recovering a deleted file (if not more so).
Depending on which plist file you are referring to, it is often possible to just remove the corrupted file and the program which requires it will rebuild it upon its next launch (albeit likely without preferences saved).
You could try that or let us know which plist you corrupted for more help.

  • Property List files damaged

Have been having sporadic problems lately running Leopard (sluggish performance, LONG startup times that can exceed 10 MINUTES !!, etc.). After running Disk Warrior vers. 4.1, it detected 5 Property List files that were damaged and could not be repaired. All of them were either in my user account or the HD Library's Preferences Folder.
Can I safely trash all of these damaged Property List files and reboot?
Also, when I use Leopard's Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions, I get a message that 4 SUID files have been modified and will not be repaired. ???
Any help or guidance regarding these problems would be appreciated. Thanks.

most of those can be safely ignored. Check this [link|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US] to see if your messages are mentioned as harmless.

  • Misplaced thumbnails - duplicate tinyCacheIndex in property list

I'm one of the users who's been frustrated lately with the wrong thumbnail showing up at times (with Aperture 2.1 at present, but I saw this frequently with 2.0). I've tracked down what I think is the immediate source of the issue, though I haven't had the time to verify this in detail yet.
I have two images which share the same thumbnail. If I rebuild the thumbnail for one of them, it will show up on both.
Looking at the "Version-1.apversion" property list file in the Aperture library for these two images, they both have the same value for the tinyCacheIndex property:
    <key>tinyCacheIndex</key>
    <integer>155</integer>
I'm assuming that this is an index into the AP.Tinies file, and that sharing the index is a Bad Thing.
My guess, though I haven't verified it yet, is that this can happen when moving a photo between projects. (Or perhaps it could happen, in 1.x or 2.0, if the problem has now been fixed.)
Rebuilding the library (command-option at startup) does not seem to detect/fix this problem.
I haven't yet been brave (foolish?) enough to manually change the index value.
Perhaps this will help out one of the engineers at Apple address this issue.

    Praveen,
    There are two issues here.
“Loading property information list by namespace failed or property not found in the list. Verify that the schema is deployed properly” issue is normally due to the deployment issues. This more often occurs when you have same schema with multiple
version and this issue is due to the sequence/order in which these two schemas are deployed. If you run the following SQL query in your BizTalk management db replacing it with your target namespace of the schema deployed
    SELECT *
    FROM bt_XMLShare
    WHERE target_namespace like N'http://YourTaggetNameSpace'
You shall see two version of the same schema listed and both of them should have Activate flag set to 1. If any of the schemas is set to 0, then you will have the above mentioned issues. This is due to the way the different versions of the schemas are deployed.
You can undeply both the version, deploy them together or deploy the older version first and the later version later.
And for another issue of custom property not updating the MessageType property, debug the pipeline component code. This issue has no direct impact to the above issue. If you you’re your Message Type to be updated and if it’s not getting changed, then debug
the code and check why its not been updated.

  • PDF file size grows with each save if .access property set on a field

We are seeing an odd form behavior and have isolated the apparent trigger to something we are doing in the form script.  I'm hoping someone can confirm they see the same problem, details follow:
We have a form generated in LiveCycle.  It contains a text field.  In the docReady event for that field we have javascript which sets the field to be readOnly (TextField1.access = "readOnly").  We reader extend the form so we can save it from reader and/or the plug-in/control which is used by a browser when reading PDFs.
With that simple form, open the form via the browser (we've tested with both IE and Chrome) and without doing anything else, just save the form (with a new name).  When we do that, the saved copy of the form is significantly bigger than the copy we started with.  If we then repeat the process using the newly saved file, the third copy is bigger than the second.
This file growth does not happen if you open the file in Adobe Reader (instead of in the browser).
When we look at the file contents via a text editor, what we have found is that each save via the browser is tacking on a chunk of data to the end of the file AFTER the %%EOF mark.  This new section appears to be one or more object definitions and ends with another %%EOF.  The first portion of the file (prior to the first %%EOF) is identical in all versions of the file.
If you take a copy of the file that has these extra section added, then open and save it in Adobe Reader, it eliminates those extra sections and you get a 'clean', small version of the file again.  So those extra sections are clearly erroneous and unnecessary.
Another thing worth noting, we took the script for setting the field access property out of the docReady event and put it as the click event on a button added to the form.  If you then open the form, press the button and save it you see the file growth (but not if you don't press the button.)  So it doesn't appear related to the docReady event, or timing of when we set the access property of the field.
On the small test form described above the growth of the file is around 13KBytes.  But in testing with our real forms we've found that the amount  of growth seems to be tied to the size/complexity of the form and the form data.  In our most complex form with multiple pages with hundreds of fields and a large amount of XML data (form size is 2+MB), we are getting a file size increase of 700KBytes on each save.  This is a therefore, a significant issue for us, particularly since the process in which the form is used requires the users to save it a couple of times a day over the period of a month or more.

I would start by exporting the XML data from the form before and after it grows to see if it is the underlying data that is growing and where. Did you define a schema and bind your form fields to a data connection created from the schema? That is always my first step when creating a form. It makes for a smaller saved file not including multiple levels of sub forms in the data structure.

  • Cannot sort in file/folder access control list in 8 or Server 2012

I use Windows 8 and Server 2012 Datacenter (with GUI).  In 7/2008R2, I was formerly able to get properties on a file or folder, go to Security tab, click Advanced, and sort the access control list by type, access, inherited from, etc.  Now, it
doesn't do anything when I click on the headings.   I know I did not find this during the Beta or Release Preview periods, but I do wish this feature would be added back.
I tried to send this through MS Connect, but they said it was a Server 2008 issue.  Does that mean that it was never supposed to sort?  But I argue that 8 and Server 2012 have the bug.  Here is an image of the window I am referring to, for
    clarification:

This is really frustrating. Just got 2012 R2 management server and a week after, I noticed the same issue. The only difference is that I'm sorting AD delegation, with 150+ ACEs. While having huge lists of ACEs, it is a must of being able to sort them
by different columns. Sad that it is considered a bug - it's usually an opposite, when a bug is offered as a feature...
I still hope this will be fixed with time to come, else - it will be more practical to use PowerShell than such handicapped GUI.

  • Property list

After using DiskWarrior to check files and folders, DW says that the Property List is damaged and cannnot be repaired.  This is in ~Library/cookies/apple.appstore.plist.  Something about the character "c" at line 1.
    Should I delete/trash the "apple.appstore.plist" preference file?
    Thanks for helping

    Ron....
Unless you are having problems accessing or using the  App Store, leave the .plist file where it is. Otherwise, it's safe to delete that file as your Mac will generate a new .plist file for you the next time you launch the App Store.

  • Excel VBA to access sharepoint list without permission

    Hi,
I do find solution to retrieve the SharePoint list from excel VBA but my problem now is on the SharePoint permission to the list.
I am developing this solution in excel because i don't want the particular user to access the list direct from the portal because the list contains some unique and confidential data. So what i did was created a new view in the portal with selected column
and i connect to the view from excel. So every time the user want to retrieve the data, he can run macro to refresh the data in the excel.
When i run the macro it can generate the list because i do have permission but if i run the same macro on the person machine, excel request for username and password because he don't have the permission to the list.
Are there any work around to allow the user to generate the data in excel without permission to the SharePoint list.
    Thanks for the help.

I've done this before using SQL Server Reporting Services integrated into SharePoint.
Using SSRS, create the report you want the end user to view. Then create a Report Subscription, emailing the end user (or putting it in a file share/Doc Lib) the report. If they want to run it interactively, you can enable caching on the report, which would
pull the report from the last time it was scheduled to run (the data would not be 'real time' in this case).

  • Access Control Lists on USB drive connected to AirPort Extreme

I have a Seagate 320GB drive mounted in a NexStar 2 IDE drive enclosure and connected via USB to my AirPort Extreme Base Station, running version 7.4.1 firmware upgrade.
Every time I restart the computer or unmount the network drive, an access control list appears to be written to the drive when there should be none, according to Disk Utility. I can tell when there are problems with the drive because the desktop icon turns from bright blue to grey-blue. I have to unmount the drive from the base station and connect it directly to the computer via firewire in order for Disk Utility to examine it. Generally, Disk Utility will report "Incorrect number of Access Control Lists (It should be 0 instead of (whatever number found) )
Does anyone know why these Access Control Lists are appearing? Is there any easy way to locate them and remove them, other than disconnecting it from the base station and connecting to the computer?
This problem happens with several different drives, in various NexStar 2 and NexStar 3 enclosures.

Same problem for me, exept that it happends after copying a file to the drive. It don't happend if I just mount and unmount the disc. The same for all discs I have tryed.

    Denis,
Do you have [red hair|http://www.dennisthemenace.com/]? ;-)
My advise with the tree structure is pretty short and sweet... make each node remember
    1. it's parent
    2. it's children
That's how the file system (inode) actually works.
    <quote>
The exact reasoning for designating these as "i" nodes is unsure. When asked, Unix pioneer Dennis Ritchie replied:[citation needed]
In truth, I don't know either. It was just a term that we started to use. "Index" is my best guess, because of the
slightly unusual file system structure that stored the access information of files as a flat array on the disk, with all
the hierarchical directory information living aside from this. Thus the i-number is an index in this array, the
i-node is the selected element of the array. (The "i-" notation was used in the 1st edition manual; its hyphen
    became gradually dropped).</quote>
